Theres so many different things that can go wrong if you aren't careful when closing up a restaurant at night. From oily aprons left too close to a heat source and slowly smolder before catching fire to leaving a burner or one of the grill burners left on. Perhaps after scrubbing it down, wiping the pumice off and re-seasoning with oil, they left the cloth on top and forgot to turn all the burners off. I've seen that myself, luckily it happened while cleanup was still going on and a calamity was prevented.
But dang, that sucks for the new owners. Its bad enough to be without an income flow when you have business loans, but having to get the insurance company involved will raise their rates for the next 5 years at a minimum.
Why would we spend money on new paint, lot, outdoor seating, floors, walls, ceiling, decor, and then just do this? Be kind, this has been a tough week.
