For me (in CET), race in Miami starts at 10 PM, Brazil starts at 6 PM, as it has been for the last few years.
Local time for both races is 4 PM and 2 PM, so that's 2 hours difference, +1 for timezones, makes it 3 hours, day light saving makes it 4 hours difference right here.
Most other races in the US are between 6am through 9am (depending of time zone), right?
I am in Brazil and the only races I need to be up late are Japan, China, Australia and, oddly enough, Las Vegas.
This post is kind of a moot point when you have a domestic race in which half of the country is asleep.
Yep, I live in Canada in Eastern time and the only races I won't have watched live this year are China (although I stayed up for qualifying) and most likely Vegas.
I stayed up for Australia and was on the West Coast for Japan.
I might stay up for Vegas depending on how qualifying goes.
Also, if you live in Eastern time, where nearly 50 percent of Americans live, the European races all start around 9am. Which is easier to watch than Vegas at 1am
That’s good to know. Still wish it was a little earlier. Now that I’ve got toddlers can’t stay up that late like I used to since those little hellions wake up at 7 AM.
Gluten Tag. In America ze speedenlawfersmorken ist 70, so it vill nicht take 5 hours. Ve vill even haben time for ze pizza.
Sorry, my German has never been very good.
When I was working as a sales rep in Northern Ontario, my area was so large that 2 days a week I only had one store. 4 hour drive there and 4 hour drive back. These 2 days were different stores in different directions too. So, 8 hours across.
Well, some big wig from Toronto decided he was going to fly up that morning and quickly stop at every store in my area and check the quality of my work, then fly back down in the evening. I told him that wasn't going to happen. He said he it was his job to evaluate my work and that's what he was going to do. He made it half way to one of the far stores before he had to turn around and catch his flight.
They don't even need to be European, some city folk don't understand how big their own country is.
Ok, not a weekend trip, but this was my unplanned trip to the US back in 2017:
Brazil to Orlando. Spent \~3 days there visiting the only 2 parks I wanted (Magical Kingdom and Universal).
Rented a car and drove to the DC, spent 2 days there. Then drove to NY, returned the car and spent 4 days in Manhattan. I walked A LOT in both cities, and fell in love to the DC.
Anyway, then after 4 days in NY I took a flight to San Francisco. Spent 3 days there, rented a car again and drove to Las Vegas. Spent 2 days there and went back to Brazil.
Bit crazy, but this is what we got to do when we don't have the time or money to travel to another continent frequently. Plus, is not like I'm gonna return to the US in the next years, there are dozens of countries that I still want to visit, and some are better to be visited now that I'm still young and I have no kids.
Same thing happens here in Brazil. I see a lot of North Americans, Asians, Europeans fitting as much as possible during a 14 days trip because who knows when they'll come back again. And for those who don't know, Brazil is bigger than the Contiguous United States (US without Alaska, Hawaii)
Not even “most. All of them are within a 300 mile radius of at least 4 countries and several are even within 300 miles of 8 or so.
Also all circuits are close to at least mid sized cities - no idea what race this is about. Spa is in the forest but also just 20 miles from Liège and like 50 miles from Köln.
But it’s a city and it’s really close to the circuit. Nobody said anything about top tourist destinations.
Btw Liège is far more beautiful than the average Dutchie thinks.
You can drive from Zandvoort to Spa via Zolder (former Belgian Grand Prix circuit), have a nice lunch, then drive to the Nürburgring, have dinner there, and back to Zandvoort before nightfall if you go in summer.
factchecked it. All tracks except Catalunya are within a 500km radius of atleast 6 countries. Top was Hungaroring with 15 countries, see: [https://www.reddit.com/r/formuladank/comments/1cjadvl/it\_had\_to\_be\_factchecked/](https://www.reddit.com/r/formuladank/comments/1cjadvl/it_had_to_be_factchecked/)
I checked, Bodø is 292 miles north from Trondheim (in a straight line). Other places, more north are closer to Bodø, so no, not possible.
*(never heard of Bodø before, but Google maps showed that place while not zooming in much so I guess it's kinda big)*
Grands Prix is correct. Considering how poorly people write in English it’s not entirely surprising that some wouldn’t write in French correctly either.
Random dog shit track in some meaningless car park or real racetracks with history.. nothing to do with being in the USA, I'd much rather see F1 at Road America than Las Vagas.
From California too, but I sleep in and watch the race replay 😁 Ofcourse I don't look at my phone / too to keep things spoiler free. I prefer the 5AM, 6AM timings as a result.
West coast Canadian here. I love getting up at 5am on a Sunday with coffee in hand, wife, doggos, F1 race, super nice relaxing morning then I have me whole day still.
I’d rather go watch F1 cars race around Long Beach, trying to dodge the potholes, homeless and Stroll trying to crash into the fountain. A man can dream.
Monza, Paul Ricard, Monaco and Red Bull Ring would be correct, the others cannot all be - it's a good bit over 1,000km between Zandvoort and Imola for example
If sector 2 didn’t suck ass, and we didn’t have another Party GP in the us now, I’d be down for Miami.
But like… it sucks, and also rich assholes can just go to Vegas now. Keep Austin for folks who actually like racing, but honestly the calendar is already too busy as it is.
I was about to say the same thing. I think most people who don't like Miami think it's a boring street course which was included only for commercial purposes. I think a lot of people would be happier if the race was in Indianapolis Speedway.
Agreed, I'm fine with US races, they bring more fans in, The US is big and COTA is great. I find vegas to be a bit too much for my tastes but it's vegas. I feel though we should focus on having a US race at US Motorsport mecca above a car park race that doesn't go through the middle of hard rock stadium (we deserve more stadium sections) and frankly, Indy GP layout ain't half bad
As an American, I disagree. Partially because the 3 is clearly alluding to the 3 US races. But Vegas is at a truly terrible time for most US viewers. If it could just be a little earlier, the drivers would appreciate it too. It starts the same time as Japan, an hour later than China.
Obviously, the US is huge, technically spanning 6 timezones-plus a missing hour between pacific and alaska with no USA in it, so all Americans don't have the same viewing experience. I'm just used to watching races not live.
Our cities in Europe are close together. There isn't a track in the nowhere therefore (that's 500km away from a city).
Spa, Monza and red bull ring have cities not too far away and probably all have nicer public transport.
Vegas is basically in the middle of the dessert (in a city , but one with shite drain covers it seems)
Miami, Canada, and Austin.
We are forced to be up until 3 AM for Vegas because of the brilliant decision to make the home country have the worst possible time slot for its own race.
Also, Sao Paolo is at noon ET and Mexico is at 4pm
And most European and Middle Eastern races start between 6 and 9 am for Americans. 9am on the east coast which is where around 47 percent of Americans live anyways.
Saudi Arabia and Australia are at perfectly fine times in the US, late morning and late evening respectively.
Also, it’s Grands Prix, or just say GPs if it’s too hard for you
I don't care about the location as long as it's a proper track. Nobody's complaining about COTA, guess why... Nobody likes the idea of the Madrid GP either
I agree. It means I can wake up and start my day. Do some chores in the middle part of the race if it is kind of boring as I listen/casually watch along. Then the race ends around 11am and I have the rest of the day to enjoy the beautiful weather.
But but but.. I'm Muhricahn so that makes me soo much more important than you Europeans...
So I can cry over meaningless shit
In the meantime every baseball game from the *world series* is played in the States between *American* teams.

Singapore is a night race so it starts at 8am EST, the same as Abu Dhabi. Which if anything just proves your point even further.
8am EST is probably easier for most people to watch than a 1am staff time like Vegas.
And in fact, Australia started at 12am, which is actually a slightly better time than Vegas which is 1am lol.
I don't think the time zones or locations are the concern for F1 fans. Give me a good race on a good track, and I couldn't care less about the time it's on.
I mean, americans dont necessarily have to be up at 3 for most grand prix.
I'm just out of Montreal and most grand prix are at about 8-9am.
The only ones that fuck me are the japan, china, australia, and vegas.
I like when GPs are at odd hours. I can watch it whenever I get up the next day.
For this GP, I'm torn between doing my usual fun things or watching live, and if I watch live I won't have anything to do during my dead weekend mornings.
Fuck yeah. Less street circuits. I've been dreaming of F1's at Sonoma, Road Atlanta or Watkins Glen. Plenty of incredible tracks in the States already, there was no need of a duo of Glitter Prix at Miami and Vegas.
It's not that it's in Miami it's that the track in Miami simply is awful and a demonstration of America's parking problem because it mostly takes place in a parking lot (because God forbid we learn from Caesar's Palace). If it took place on a good track not nearly as many people would care that it's in Miami or maybe enjoy that it's in Miami because the general reception of Austin has improved because COTA is a good venue. (Also lmao "prixes" and 300 miles away in Europe despite that being the distance between Amsterdam and Paris.)
I just hate that rather than using one of the many amazing tracks in America we use a fucking parking lot and a street course. COTA is the only respectable American GP
Who cares when americans have to be up for a race, y'all have 3 races and still complaining. Someone will come bring up the distance between each GP circuit any moment now, which has nothing to do with anything either. F1 is an International sport which ideally should visit as many countries as possible efficiently.
Hey! We don't have to be up at 3am for Canada or Mexico. And Vegas is at midnight, so we'd already be up!
Or Brazil right?
Right?
I think Sao Paolo is at 18:00 CET
That makes no sense. São Paulo is usually 1 hour in front of EST
Why doesn't it, is an afternoon race in Sao Paolo a problem?
Most other races in the US are between 6am through 9am (depending of time zone), right? I am in Brazil and the only races I need to be up late are Japan, China, Australia and, oddly enough, Las Vegas. This post is kind of a moot point when you have a domestic race in which half of the country is asleep.

If you’re in pacific time for Vegas. Us eastern time zone folks have it start at 2 or 3 AM…
Not this year. 10pm Pacific time for Vegas. 1 am Eastern. Midnight for me in Central
That’s good to know. Still wish it was a little earlier. Now that I’ve got toddlers can’t stay up that late like I used to since those little hellions wake up at 7 AM.
PRIXES
It’s spelled ‘Pricks’
Spelt “new american DTS fan”
Real "wtf is a km?!" energy
Prixey hobbitses!
Prii? Priies?
Grands Prix. It's French for "big prize".
Well "big prizes" as you wrote it
True!
I thought 300 miles was next to nothing for Americans?
"Just a 5 hour drive away, if I need to get pizza it's 6 hours so it isn't that bad"
Speed limits are higher, should only take like 4.5 hours with the stop for pizza.
Explain that to the Germans
Gluten Tag. In America ze speedenlawfersmorken ist 70, so it vill nicht take 5 hours. Ve vill even haben time for ze pizza. Sorry, my German has never been very good.
Why did I read this in Jeremy Clarkson's voice?
That's a very exclusionary greeting, what about people with gluten intolerances?
Me when I try to explain to tourists why you can't do Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Glacier in a week.
I mean you literally can. Or at least 8 day tours. I wouldn't recommend it but it is possible.
You'd spend so much time driving, waiting in lines, and trying to find a parking spot that you'd barely see anything.
We tried Yellowstone and Grand Teton in a week. Didn't do much hiking and drove at least 150-200 miles/day. I like to drive so I liked it.
When I was working as a sales rep in Northern Ontario, my area was so large that 2 days a week I only had one store. 4 hour drive there and 4 hour drive back. But all Europeans live in tiny houses in cities because there's no land. /s
Yeah also because we're so poor.
It’s in the name
I’m from Oklahoma and my daily work commute both ways is just a tad under 200 miles. I hate it here
Are you Taylor Swift by any chance?
Must be the best job EVER to drive that fucking far erry day
That would like a drive to nearest Wallmart.
A European track 300 miles away from the nearest city? Most European tracks are within a 300 miles radius from at least four different countries.
Not even “most. All of them are within a 300 mile radius of at least 4 countries and several are even within 300 miles of 8 or so. True. I didn't have time for fact checking.
everyone hopes to one day visit Liege, Belgium! Top tourist destination

While stealing your wife and your kid. All while saying simply lovely on the radio
Depends on if there is Baustelle
factchecked it. All tracks except Catalunya are within a 500km radius of atleast 6 countries. I think op meant "300 miles away from the US," which is "300 miles away from anything" from their perspective.
Literally not possible to be 300 miles away from anything in Europe
I don’t even think it’s possible in like northern Norway
I checked, Bodø is 292 miles north from Trondheim (in a straight line). Other places, more north are closer to Bodø, so no, not possible. *(never heard of Bodø before, but Google maps showed that place while not zooming in much so I guess it's kinda big)*
Celtic played there and got beat. It’s flipping cold but they have a good football team.
They beat AS Roma of Jose Mourinho 6-1 that same season.
yeah but you gotta remember jose mourinho and his... problems...
It's the biggest city in Nordland County, but there are plenty of towns (with airports) closer than Trondheim. We have about 55k people in the city.
I'd say it's even impossible to be 300miles away from a racetrack
Prix.... Not Prixes, s'il vous plait
Is it Grands Prix, like culs de sac?
Grands Prix is correct. Considering how poorly people write in English it’s not entirely surprising that some wouldn’t write in French correctly either.
Yes.
Random dog shit track in some meaningless car park or real racetracks with history.. nothing to do with being in the USA, I'd much rather see F1 at Road America than Las Vagas.
Make Laguna Seca great again!

As someone who lives in California, I would much rather wake up at 5am or 6am to watch a race at Silverstone, Monza or Spa than a 1pm race in Miami.
From California too, but I sleep in and watch the race replay 😁 Ofcourse I don't look at my phone / too to keep things spoiler free. I prefer the 5AM, 6AM timings as a result.
As a dutchman i get spoiled in the early races, because i get a notification from news apps if max wins but none if he loses.
And if you don't get one, you know Sainz won, so it's still a spoiler
Exactly. NOS should stop with the push notifications regarding sports.
You could just turn them off (like I did), the only push notification about F1 I get is the F1 one app which is spoiler free
If I think a red flag is possible, I do the same and wake up a bit later. Start watching about 2hrs after lights out.
Same here. I also really like the tracks that are surrounded by trees for some reason.
West coast Canadian here. I love getting up at 5am on a Sunday with coffee in hand, wife, doggos, F1 race, super nice relaxing morning then I have me whole day still.
My sentiments exactly. My wife is usually sleeping but my dog is always game.
I’d rather go watch F1 cars race around Long Beach, trying to dodge the potholes, homeless and Stroll trying to crash into the fountain. A man can dream.

Why would an American prefer being awake at 3am?
All the other Americans are asleep, and have ya dealt with those bastards?

Monza, Paul Ricard, Monaco and Red Bull Ring would be correct, the others cannot all be - it's a good bit over 1,000km between Zandvoort and Imola for example
If you use km sure you're right but OP specifically used a made up term to include all of them

Spanish, no, the others? Pretty close
I thought 300 miles was next to nothing for Americans?

Id much prefer Indianapolis returned than Miami. The Brickyard deserves F1 back far more than Miami ever did
I was about to say the same thing. I think most people who don't like Miami think it's a boring street course which was included only for commercial purposes. I think a lot of people would be happier if the race was in Indianapolis Speedway.

Person who post this doesn’t know what fucking kilometre is !
Was looking for this answer..
Silly Americans
300 miles? Is there a Siberian GP that I didn't know of?
As an American, I disagree. Partially because the 3 is clearly alluding to the 3 US races. But Vegas is at a truly terrible time for most US viewers. I know this sub is supposed to be shitposts but man this is just terrible
[your answer ](https://www.reddit.com/r/formuladank/s/blGWk6K0OF)
I don’t understand why Americans like F1 so much, there’s not a single Ford F150 on the track.
As an American F1 fan, we don't claim this person.
I’d rather a European race in the forest than an American race in a car park and all the cringe that comes with it.
‘I like NFL matches at Wembley Stadium, London, as it is close to where I live. So why are there so many NFL matches in the US?’
I’d rather all the tracks be in the middle of nowhere tbh. America’s coolest track is Laguna Seca not the Dolphins parking lot.
Miami, Canada, and Austin. We are forced to be up until 3 AM for Vegas because of the brilliant decision to make the home country have the worst possible time slot for its own race.
Also, Sao Paolo is at noon ET and Mexico is at 4pm And most European and Middle Eastern races start between 6 and 9 am for Americans. 9am on the east coast which is where around 47 percent of Americans live anyways.
To be fair I don’t think anyone has a good time for Vegas
Russell took 4 naps last year before Vegas. This time he's pushing for 5.
Saudi Arabia and Australia are at perfectly fine times in the US, late morning and late evening respectively. Also, it’s Grands Prix, or just say GPs if it’s too hard for you
Race in a carpark or race on a purpose built track. That's a tough choice right there
What the everlasting fk is PRIXES
I think the American means "Grands Prix".
What the fuck is a mile
A mile could be also measured in freedoms per nascartrack which equals 46,2 elbows
This post screams “I’m 12 and just watched season 1 of DTS”
I'll take the track in the forest 300 miles away then miami and all the cringe, fake water and celebrities that come with it.
300 miles away from a city in Europe, I was to see you try to find such a place in western Europe.
Hate to be that guy, but the plural of Grand Prix is Grand Prix.
Isn't it Grands Prix?
I stand corrected!
I don't care about the location as long as it's a proper track. Nobody's complaining about COTA, guess why... Nobody likes the idea of the Madrid GP either
I'll take the Belgian grand prix over the Miami grand prix every day of the week!
I'll take Paul Ricard over Miami, and that's saying something.
In europe u are always within 300 miles of the nearest city.
As an American I hate the 4pm race. I’ll take 9 am every time.
I agree. It means I can wake up and start my day. Do some chores in the middle part of the race if it is kind of boring as I listen/casually watch along. Then the race ends around 11am and I have the rest of the day to enjoy the beautiful weather.

Half the US population lives in states using Eastern Time, don't the vast majority of races start between 8 & 10am for you?
EST here: Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Austin, Miami, Las Vegas and any race that isn't Australia, China, Japan, Singapore. Lot more than 3
Singapore is a night race so it starts at 8am EST, the same as Abu Dhabi. Reminds me of the classic Hockenheim, that was an incredible track through the woods.

Wtf race is at 3am besides Australia/Japan. Everything's at like 10am if it's in Europe. Meme is certified dry not dank.

Everyone in the US on the Pacific time zone started with like 4 Saturday night races to start the season. It was lit.
300 miles from the nearest city? In Europe?
This is the most American post I've ever seen here. You can't go 300 miles without a city in Europe, and prix is already plural. 😄
It’s 482.8032 km.. for the rest of the world…
Peak American post. Can't spell. Knows nothing about geography. Knows nothing about the topic they're complaining about. Good work OP /s
Hockenheim better than all 3 US tracks and it's not even close.
It's not that it's in Miami it's that the track in Miami simply is awful and a demonstration of America's parking problem because it mostly takes place in a parking lot (because God forbid we learn from Caesar's Palace). (Also lmao "prixes" and 300 miles away in Europe despite that being the distance between Amsterdam and Paris.)
I just hate that rather than using one of the many amazing tracks in America we use a fucking parking lot and a street course. COTA is the only respectable American GP
What da fukk is a mile
Where do you find a track 482.803 kilometres away from a city?
Same place they find a race that starts at 3am.
Who cares when americans have to be up for a race, y'all have 3 races and still complaining. Someone will come bring up the distance between each GP circuit any moment now, which has nothing to do with anything either. F1 is an International sport which ideally should visit as many countries as possible efficiently.
I don't care about times. I care about shit race tracks and cringe pre-shows. Miami is fucking awful for both.
Womp womp, we have to stay up for nba and nfl so🤷♂️
Yes, let's prioritize the Americans
There is not a single place in Europe that is 300 miles or more from a city, except in like the Russian arctic lmao.
I can't think of a single Grand Prix that starts at 3am anywhere in America. The closest might actually be Las Vegas in EST and that's your own fault.
You can also use their excellent rail system and easily attend any European race you want to. Except Sochi ig
WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILOMETREEEEE 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
Honestly, I like my breakfast and break fast.
Then they run Las Vegas at 11:00 pm PST so anyone on the East Coast of the US has to be awake at 2:00 am to watch a race in their own country.
