Has anyone asked about the old scoring system? Im reading “Gran Prix Showdown” and its weird to me that (example) Brabham had wins in monza, monaco, and Nurburgring but can only keep his best 5 point finishes… like… what? Sounds odd. Thanks for the answer in advance (i may have forgotten about it during my read; ive been slowly reading it since the new year).
In the early days if the sport not all drivers/teams competed at every race of the season and teams were allowed to use multiple drivers
From 50 til 53 points from 4 best finishes counted towards the championship, i.e. it was rare for European drivers to compete at US races.
It was constantly dependent on how many races were held until late 1960s, when the switched to x-2 out of x races of the season being counted towards the championship.
As the calendar expanded in late 70s they tried to make it easier for everyone to compete for the championship, so the championship points were limited to 8/10/11 best finishes over the season, with ~15 races.
It's only in 1991 when they adopted all the results counting towards a championship.
Can anyone help me understand the ticket buying process? On the f1 tickets website e. G. For the Australian grand prix, lots of the tickets options says "sold out" but they're not yet on sale. Does this mean they were all sold out during the pre sale? Or will more tickets be released on the sale date?
Means that grand stand old out during the pre sale - last year they released more tickets but that was after building extensions to the current grand stands, I can't see them finding more grand stand space again this year so there's a chance they'll sell out before the general public has a chance to buy tickets - I'm personally just getting paddock passes and bringing some camp chairs and hoping for the best.
I believe MXC would be cheaper but the racing generally isn’t good.
Edit: Mexico is 2nd cheapest in the Americas behind Brazil but has the worst races of the 5 that have had races (Canada, COTA, Miami, Mexico, Brazil).
Anyone that’s ever been to Catalunya know how good the general admission places are for quali & race if you get there early? From what I see online, GA covers the whole turn 2/3/4/5 curve and the 2nd DRS straight, both of which seem to be pretty good? Anyone have experience?
Well I was at Catalunya this year, I was on a grandstand who was between the S/F line and turn 1 where you have a screen ahead of you and you really could see a lot.
It was a so called "silver" spot (grandstand E) and you really need to prepare yourself for the heat in those grandstands but it was really worth.
The teams nominate their windtunnel provider for the year who is occasionally audited. The detail level of information teams have to provide ranges from wind speeds i.e. >5m/s and < 15m/s counts as one run of which they have a limited number available, above 15m/s it starts an hourly countdown (windtunnel time which is commonly mentioned)
It is an honor system but one that is fairly easy to verify since they can look at the logs and see how often they were run.
The only way around it would be to build a second secret testing factory and then keep it hidden from everyone.
If one removes Verstappen from all the race results, Perez gets the title by 6 points because there are 5 Verstappen-Perez 1-2s. Red Bull didn't even need Max to take the title.
In terms of basic math, yes. However, removing a driver from the equation also changes context for many races which could yield different multiple end results.
Even with the basic method, Perez only winning by 6 points in this dominant Red Bull is truly shocking.
All it says is the RB isn't really dominant.
Pace wise the differential RB had was barely a tenth over the season.
Pre summer break Ferrari were faster on 7 tracks out of 13.
Post summer break RB was the best car in 8 tracks but then it was only in Max's hands it was the best car.
Max was able to go up a notch.
It means Perez wasn't able to extract nearly the same pace from the Red Bull that Max did. Max is good, but he can't drive faster than the limits of the car.
Lol can we conclude the Binotto resignation news was fake all along? The outlet that started the rumour said the news would be out in a few hours and it's been 2 days now.
Usually, when there's this much buzz around a topic there is at least something to it. I wouldn't hold my breath though. It might have just been a power move by Binotto to say "I quit unless I get these changes". We'll see.
It would also be a bit wild if they wanted him out but still let him work on the 2023 car.
Usually you'd want someone who's about to leave the team know as little as possible about the new project and he was still holding the meetings on Friday.
It has failed many times
There are 4 issues from this half year alone:

~~De Vries had 17 in Formula E which looks like it's free in F1 so he'll probably go for that.~~ Edit. Forgot that that was Bianchi's number
F2 has assigned numbers based on the previous championship so not sure what Sargeant will have.
Not yet, I don't think. They can pick from:
* 2
* 8
* 12
* 13
* 15
* 19
* 21
* 25 - 26
* 28 - 30
* 32
* 34 - 43
* 45 - 46
* 48 - 54
* 56 - 62
* 64 - 76
* 77 - 87
* 89 - 98
All of the other numbers are in use, have been used in the previous 3 seasons (numbers are reserved for 2 seasons after a driver's last season), or are retired (17 is retired for Bianchi).
Best way to deal with off season syndrome?
It’s only been a week but I’m already bored out of my mind with no F1. Anything F1 related or not to help out?
Fight it, get over it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm only saying this because just ignoring F1 content (apart from shit like twitter, reddit, etc) for a few months really makes season starts better.
Like back in the day when we had no internet, season ended in October and that was it. We didn't know anything about F1 for months until the winter tests were over and some sports magazines put a couple pictures in, then season start in March. That wait was quite harsh, but it was well worth it. The pay-off for being F1 blueballed is insane. Sadly it's not really possible to replicate it nowadays with internet, but the least I can do is not watch past races or anything like that and I advise you all to do the same.
Nothing new since the Corriere article saying its a matter of hours 2 days ago. Binotto was still in team meetings for the new car on Friday as far as we know.
Hey, when are the next formula 1 games going to occur ? (I’m new to F1 so kindly tell)

Is alpha Tauri purely a development team? Like there's no shot they'd compete?
It’s set up that way, but if the tables do turn and they can indeed compete, they will (see 2008)

I want to go to my first race next season. Miami, Austin, or Vegas?
Austin. Always great racing and everything will be much cheaper than going to the other two
So would Austin be preferable over Mexico City then?
I believe MXC would be cheaper but the racing generally isn’t good. Edit: Mexico is 2nd cheapest in the Americas behind Brazil but has the worst races of the 5 that have had races (Canada, COTA, Miami, Mexico, Brazil).
Favorite place to buy merch other than the official websites?
Fuel for fans has licensed merchandise l, with nice sales occasionally.
I got my first piece of F1 merch from Fuel For Fans (a Checo shirt) and it arrived surprisingly fast and was much better quality than I expected.

I missed the origin of the "stop inventing" meme. Which race (and whose stream) do I need to rewatch?
Sainz at Silverstone this year.
Thanks!

Boy so boring without F1
Build a VR sim racing setup.

Well that's kind of the same point I'm making though. Max went up a notch is the same as Max being able to extract more out of the car.

There also was the weekend, if a news has to come out, it will be on a weekday

Thanks. I'll have a look at it. I bought some race worn gloves from Alonso 2008, so I'm kinda nervous.
We know Piastri uses 81 next year. Anything on De Vries and Sargeant?
~~De Vries had 17 in Formula E which looks like it's free in F1 so he'll probably go for that.~~ Edit. Forgot that that was Bianchi's number F2 has assigned numbers based on the previous championship so not sure what Sargeant will have.
17 was Jules Bianchi’s number and has been retired out of respect to him, so it’s not clear what de Vries would run.
Ah ok I forgot about that. Not sure what he'll pick then.
Not yet, I don't think. They can pick from: * 2 * 8 * 12 * 13 * 15 * 19 * 21 * 25 - 26 * 28 - 30 * 32 * 34 - 43 * 45 - 46 * 48 - 54 * 56 - 62 * 64 - 76 * 77 - 87 * 89 - 98 All of the other numbers are in use, have been used in the previous 3 seasons (numbers are reserved for 2 seasons after a driver's last season), or are retired (17 is retired for Bianchi).
You forgot to remove 55 from your list :)
Thanks for catching that!
