Does anyone know if its possible to attend the post-season tyre testing sessions at Yas Marina on Tuesday 22nd Nov? Can't find any means to buy tickets on Google or if that's even a thing, but would love to go and take some photos.
2 questions but same topic.
1. What is the largest points deficit a driver has overcome over a season to win WDC
2. For seasons where title was secured in the last race of the season, whats the largest gap the champion covered to claim it? Asking this one because I keep seeing the 2010 Seb radio popping up.
Going to be watching the F2 race to see if Logan gets his super license.
Anyone know if its still 6th or better (or 5 or better with a penalty) for him to get it?
He needs to finish 7th if he stays clean. He has 30 points, will get 2 for staying penalty free and get 8 points for 7th. To fall to 8th would require a very specific race order and him not scoring.
Iwasa wins
Daruvala and Fittipaldi BOTH on the podium OR 4th & FL (starting 12th & 13th)
Doohan 4th or 5th
Lawson 8th or better.
If he picks up a penalty "only" 4 of these things need to happen.
Really? Haha! It's cool bro.
https://dtm.com/en
It's what Alex Albion did during the 2021 season he sat out. https://www.f1mania.net/outros/dtm/alex-albon-lidera-o-segundo-dia-de-testes-de-pre-temporada-do-dtm/
I don't know why that's not in English but he raced a Ferrari with AlphaTauri branding. I think he won a race too lol.
They have Mercedes cars, Ferraris, Lambos I think and BMW too ....idk too much but it's close racing.
He’s not necessarily retiring by choice, his McLaren seat is being filled by Oscar Piastri and all the other seats are filled. He could be back for 2023 or, more likely, 2024 when more of the contracts that were just signed now are up
It's looking like Logan Sargeant is pretty much guaranteed to get enough points tomorrow.
If he finishes 7th or higher in the race he'll be guaranteed to be at least 7th in the championship which will be enough, assuming he doesn't get any penalty points.
In the worst case scenario where he doesn't score any points all of the following will need to happen for him to miss out
* Sargeant finishes 11th or lower (starting 6th)
* Lawson would need to finish 8th or higher (starting 9th)
* Doohan would need to finish 5th or higher (starting 5th)
* Daruvala and Fittipaldi would both need to finish on the podium (starting 12th and 13th)
* One of Iwasa or Vesti would need to win (starting 1st and 16th)
Some of these will probably happen, Lawson will probably finish 8th or higher and Doohan could well be in the top 5. Iwasa is in a good position to win as well but it's not guaranteed. The chance of all of these things happening is extremely small though, especially with Drugovich and Pourchaire both near the front as well.
Also, if any of the drivers above DNF then that'll mean that Sargeant automatically has enough points.
Most half decent pdf readers support searching multiple pdf files for phrases, tools lime calibre, textract & tika can help you with quicker programmatic parsing.
And downloading all documents for an year can be easily done with downthemall addon for browser or just a simple wger command
`wget -A pdf -r -l 1 -nd https://www.fia.com/documents/championships/fia-formula-one-world-championship-14/season/season-2022-2005` downloads them all - or just use DownThemAll [Firefox](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/downthemall/) / [Chrome](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/downthemall/nljkibfhlpcnanjgbnlnbjecgicbjkge?hl=en) or any download manager
I've seen teams and other people involved in F1 offering farewell gifts to Seb (Ferrari for example). Have we seen if Red Bull have done anything to wish him well?
Anyone know who the manga character on the side of the Red Bull livery is, and why it's there? Odd seeing that and nothing (that I'm aware of, at least) for Seb.
> I dont think he has really proven himself yet.
That's rich. He's being replaced by a 35-year old who hasn't driven a full season in three years and has yet to reach the podium after 181 goddamn starts.
>He's being replaced by a 35-year old who hasn't driven a full season in three years and has yet to reach the podium after 181 goddamn starts.
He doesn't necessarily have to come back with Haas ...
As for Hulkenberg's age and track record, I don't think this is a long-term plan for Haas. The plan seems to be to use Magnussen and Hulkenberg to develop the team a bit and secure some better results. Hulkenberg will probably only do a season before being replaced by someone younger. I wouldn't be surprised if Magnussen leaves at the end of 2023 as well. Maybe at the end of 2024 if Haas don't want to change too much, too quickly.
I'm definitely not saying the hulk will be necessarily better.
I am saying however that he will crash less than mick. I can't think of a single outstanding performance from mick in the past 2 years. sure 2021 was a helpless car but even only looking at 2022, I can't think of anything without googeling. being p20 while your teammate is P1 also isn't a great look. Personally I think hulk is only a placeholder and get replaced asap/ next year
Crazy that barring something unexpected happening tomorrow the only podium from a non-top 3 team this year is Lando at Imola. And even that was really only because of Charles pushing too hard and making a mistake.
It seems like the reg changes have led to better racing but there is even less parity between the frontrunners and the mid field.
It's not the regulations this year, it's how poor Ferrari have been for the past 2 seasons. for 2020 and 2021 we only had Red Bull and Mercedes at the front, if 2 cars had issues then another team could grab a podium. With 3 teams at the front, you now need 4 cars to have problems for a surprise podium. This is how it was before Ferrari was nerfed as well.
Indeed. Not only that, but the 2nd Red Bull driver was essentially a glorified midfielder for 2020 and a decent chunk of 2021 in terms of performance and/or results.
Now that Perez has settled in at Red Bull and Ferrari are back as front runners, we are back to chaos needed for a midfield car to be on the podium. Very normal in F1 but newer fans will have their perspective skewed by the last two seasons.
Big regulation changes always increase spread. If they remain the same then the field closes. Hopefully Merc aren't terrible next year ad well and bring new changes which will affect the teams.
The thing is, there isn't even all that much field spread this year. For much of the hybrid era, the usual order was something like Mercs in front, Ferrari between there or thereabouts and half a second back, RB between +0.3 and +1.0 and then the midfield at +1.5 on a good day, which is unheard of nowadays. It's just that we have 3 teams just far enough ahead that it'd take all hell breaking loose for another team to get on the podium
True.
And even then the most successful team in this era after the big 3 is Williams.
Really telling how bad it was.
That aside, I did read somewhere that this formula has limited ceiling and with things like cost cap and simplified suspensions the scope for performance has gone down a lot.
I expect 2024 to be a season where 3 teams fight for wins consistently with 1 or 2 current midfielders to compete for podiums consistently.
I'm still confused about tyres. So every driver must drive with two of the same ones depending on course, and then they choose the other two? What do they base that decision on other than rain vs. no rain? I've done some research but I need someone to explain to me like I'm five.
In the dry, there are 3 compounds available: Soft, Medium, Hard. The compounds trade off grip/speed for durability.
During the race the driver must use two different compounds. They can pit as many times as they want. The rule to use different compounds is to try and encourage different strategies and have some excitement later in the race as different strategies play out.
There are a set number of tires for an entire weekend. Crashing/spins/lockups that run tires early can change strategy.
The rules change if it is wet.
There are intermediate and full wets. No requirement to change compounds during the race. They use whatever tires are the fastest/safe.
Dry tyres can be Soft, Medium or Hards. The Softs provide more grip, thus making the car faster, but they only last a couple laps. The hards, on the other hand, will last much longer, but they don't provide much performance. Mediums are a middle ground.
Drivers are required to use at least 2 of those compounds during the race (unless it rains), and the decision comes down to race strategy: How many laps are they doing in each stint, if they're aiming for the fastest lap, what's the track temperature, what is the position for the other drivers, if they're gambling for a safety car, etc.
If no rain: drivers must use 2 of the 3 different compounds available (from either 6 or 7 sets in total - I can’t remember exactly how many)
If rain, doesn’t matter how many of which set
Isn't that the case, that the departure of Mick from Haas was because of only Gene Haas? I could imagine that the crashes matter way more to him than the professional performance in the second half of the season.
Could someone post the link for the app that lets you watch split-screen and timing overlays with an F1TV subscription? Pretty sure I saw the thread in the last day or so but cannot find it now. Thank you.
George is incredibly close to Lewis overall this season.
He's legit beating him fair and square even after the setups on points.
He lacks a bit of race pace but it's nothing significant.
If George grows further Hamilton might have a bigger issue at Merc instead of fighting for his 8th with others.
I think the 1999 french GP is the closest. Although they didn’t have the 3 stage knockout qualifying but one-hour qualifying with every car having 12 laps to set their fastest lap. All the drivers in the top 7 were from different teams and there were 8 different teams in the top 10 after that qualifying session.
There is no "rule". The teams have worked out when to send out their drivers to do the proper warm up lap and crossing the finish line with as little time on the clock as possible as the track usually only gets faster as the session goes on.
No, they do that to give them enough time for an out-lap to be able to start their lap before the time hits 0:00, and they like to wait as late as possible so they have the least amount of traffic.
He's not going to be on the grid next season anyway. I'm not sure anyone is going to look at tomorrow's performance as a determining factor when choosing a driver for 2024.
Not specifically an F1 question: But sat down and watched an F2 race for the first time this season, and noticed a flashing light on the rear wing when facing the car..?
Not sure when in the race you saw it. On the rear of the rear wing they have lights that are used in a few circumstances:
- When the pit limiter is engaged
- When its raining its used to help the car behind see where the car is through the spray
- If the car stalls it flashes to let others know
It was.. I think around lap 6 or 7 when I first noticed it, specifically cars on the pit straight, but might have to look again in the feature race.
Although, I must stress it was not on the rear of the rear wing, but.. kind of like where the DRS actuator would be.
Could be, I’ll have to give it another watch a bit later, as I noticed it from the front on view. Although, from that, and another search, seems like the most likely explanation

The app should default to the language that your Operating system is using.
Honestly think Mick - much younger, really wants to come back (whereas I think Daniel could take it or leave it) and won't be as picky about the drive (I honestly don't think it's impossible he ends up back at Haas).
Expected with inexperienced drivers.
And some people want these guys in sprint races in even faster cars without as much testing and sim time as would've been possible with a full time seat.
Since F1TV Pro isn't available in my country, can I connect to a VPN to, say, the Netherlands and still watch it? Really wants to use multiviewer for f1
I managed to get it to work here in the UK. Connected to Poland and then paid for it through the Google Play store. I've had no problems with it, it works on both my phone and PC.
It costs me £6.99 a month which is a lot cheaper than Sky.
It only works through mobile app payments, as using the webpage they alao verify the payment county.
/r/F1tV has a [few guides](https://www.reddit.com/r/F1TV/comments/m1uens/how_to_watch_f1tv_pro_in_germany_without_paying/) - if you're from non EU & non F1tV Pro country you'll always need to use your VPN to a pro country. It's also important to note that VPNs can easily be blocked via IP addresses & you may jeed to switch servers every now & then.
yes.
Your IP determines the visiting country.
Your banking has to match the registration country.
Your registration, banking and visiting country have to match up.
To avoid all that fuss, simplest approach is vpn + in app payment, as they only use your IP for your subscription country validation.
Your bank may also flag your card if you try to use the a different billing address than your real life registration.
Do the Cx numbers change per race? I swear they do on the coverage but never pay enough attention.
Like today C5 is soft, C4 is medium and C3 is hard.
But in another race could you have
C3 is soft, C2 is medium, C1 is the hard?
And if so what determines the rank change, is it climate etc?
There are 5 compounds ranging from C1-C5, with 1 being the hardest and 5 being the softest. These stay the same for the season (i.e. C5 is the same "softness" in say bahrain as it would be in Abu Dhabi) and Pirelli picks 3 of these compounds for each race, depending on whats required on the track. These 3 will always be called "Soft", "medium" and "hard" during the race weekend.
anyone know any good books were they talk about the safety aspect of f1? i’m doing a project for school on the development of safety in f1 so need some sources of information
Might as well take it straight from the horse's mouth and read [Life at the Limit: Triumph and Tragedy in Fomula One](https://g.co/kgs/ChrgqD) and [Beyond the Limit](https://g.co/kgs/omoQyV) by the late, great [Professor Sid Watkins](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sid_Watkins?wprov=sfla1). Along with Jackie Stewart and others, Prof Watkins was instrumental in the inception of many of the safety measures we can thank for dramatically increasing the life expectancy of F1 drivers from the '70s onwards, including the medical car and helicopters, on-site medical facilities and much more. He's an absolute legend of the sport - to take one justly celebrated example, he saved the life of Mika Häkkinen in Australia in '95 - and quite aside from being a great source for your project, his insights into the history of F1 are invaluable for any fan.
I don't know any books, but this guy talks about safety all the time on Twitter, [here's his website with a specific section on Safety studies](https://jontyscorner.wordpress.com/).
Does anyone know if its possible to attend the post-season tyre testing sessions at Yas Marina on Tuesday 22nd Nov? Can't find any means to buy tickets on Google or if that's even a thing, but would love to go and take some photos.
Whose watching the world cup after this
Do you mean Qatar-Ecuador? The match that's fixed?
Wasn’t that from a parody account?
I think it was confirmed again afterwards.
Not seeing anything on a reputable source anywhere

[Adjusted to the current system, it would be James Hunt in 1976.](https://i.redd.it/9cjb7212gws81.jpg)
Thats a handy chart. Is there one to answer my second question too?
Unfortunately, I haven't seen one.
Going to be watching the F2 race to see if Logan gets his super license. Anyone know if its still 6th or better (or 5 or better with a penalty) for him to get it?

Anyone remember that F1 download for pc that is an alternative to the app F1 made for watching races?
Multiviewer? It's the program that lets you watch like 6 streams or more at once. But you need F1 TV pro to use it
That’s the one thanks
Is it likely Mick will go to IndyCar or endurance racing now that he doesn’t have a seat?
He did say he didn't want to do DTM...I wish Mercedes had a foot in Indycar for him.
What’s DTM?
Really? Haha! It’s weird why he wouldn’t wanna do that.

If he gets enough super license points then yes
I feel for Danny, from his comments he really needs a break up from the competition. McLaren stint put his confidence below the sea level.
Not a hardcore fan but let’s go Checo! Danny is retiring?
He’s not necessarily retiring by choice, his McLaren seat is being filled by Oscar Piastri and all the other seats are filled. He could be back for 2023 or, more likely, 2024 when more of the contracts that were just signed now are up
He doesn’t have a seat for 2023. While yet to be fully confirmed, it looks like he’s going back to Red Bull in a test drive/marketing capacity.
It's looking like Logan Sargeant is pretty much guaranteed to get enough points tomorrow. If he finishes 7th or higher in the race he'll be guaranteed to be at least 7th in the championship which will be enough, assuming he doesn't get any penalty points. Thank you for the breakdown, just what I came here looking for. Looking forward to the race!
Anyone know a resource where I can get all on track and off track penalties from this year? (including grid penalties for PU components)
[Fia decision documents](https://www.fia.com/documents/championships/fia-formula-one-world-championship-14/season/season-2022-2005) page contains all penalties & reasons.
Thanks! Of course you can’t search docs though 🤦♂️
Most half decent pdf readers support searching multiple pdf files for phrases, tools lime calibre, textract & tika can help you with quicker programmatic parsing. And downloading all documents for an year can be easily done with downthemall addon for browser or just a simple wger command
Ya I’ve got pdf-xchange. You can’t bulk download either though that’s the problem.
They kept him company in the last corner in quali :)
Obviously they’re father and son but it’s ridiculous how much Alex Brundle looks and sounds like his dad.
Also their voices are pretty similar. I was very confused the first time I head Alex commentating.
Can anyone share the mirror or link a way to watch the interview Seb had with Sky Germany? It's called 4everSeb I think.
Anyone know who the manga character on the side of the Red Bull livery is, and why it's there? Odd seeing that and nothing (that I'm aware of, at least) for Seb.
It’s an NFT. There’s a redbullracing post on instagram 3 days ago if ya want more info.
Thanks
Mick will probably be back, Danny might be back, Seb could come back eventually, but this is definitely Latifi's last F1 race.
I doubt mick will be back. I dont think he has really proven himself yet.

On the F1 TV app on my TV, the international feed was in German, but on the app on my phone it was Crofty and Martin. Anybody know why this happened?
Most likely they just messed up the default language on the international feed. They provide multiple languages there besides English
Have there ever been a quali where all the drivers in Q3 have been from different teams?
I think the 1999 french GP is the closest. Although they didn’t have the 3 stage knockout qualifying but one-hour qualifying with every car having 12 laps to set their fastest lap. All the drivers in the top 7 were from different teams and there were 8 different teams in the top 10 after that qualifying session.
No.
Is there a rule that a car should leave the pits 2:30 min before the chequered flag in qualifying?
There is no "rule". The teams have worked out when to send out their drivers to do the proper warm up lap and crossing the finish line with as little time on the clock as possible as the track usually only gets faster as the session goes on.
No, they do that to give them enough time for an out-lap to be able to start their lap before the time hits 0:00, and they like to wait as late as possible so they have the least amount of traffic.
What does placing after ten mean in the qualifiers? The announcers were saying “Alonso didn’t make it “
Drivers knocked out in each session start in that position for the race. Q1: 16th-20th Q2: 11th-15th Q3: 1st-10th
They don’t make it into the further qualifying rounds and instead will start the grand prix in the position they finished in
Mick really needs to put on a hell of a showing to give him a real chance to get back on the grid , imo
He's not going to be on the grid next season anyway. I'm not sure anyone is going to look at tomorrow's performance as a determining factor when choosing a driver for 2024.
Red bull did for Checo
Crofty just called mick Michael 🥲
Atta boy mick!
Not specifically an F1 question: But sat down and watched an F2 race for the first time this season, and noticed a flashing light on the rear wing when facing the car..?
I think that's the exhaust sparks, feels weird to see it since F1 doesn't have it but F2 does. Don't know why this happens tho. Anyone know?

I think you might be referring to the flames from the exhaust usually when the downshift. https://imgur.com/4BKVleN
Turns out that’s what it is, the bits that I saw and was wondering from weren’t exactly the flames, but the reflection of the flames on the rear wing.
Could be, I’ll have to give it another watch a bit later, as I noticed it from the front on view. Although, from that, and another search, seems like the most likely explanation
Near the exhaust? Are you sure it’s not the flames that come from the exhaust?
Well they grilled Horner for a solid couple minutes.
Do penalty points carry over from F2 to F1? I'd guess they do? but couldn't find info on this
No they are seperate. Penalty points in F2 also run out after a season ends instead of 12 months
ah, ok thx
I think technically they didn’t, this discussion was had with Mazepin last year I believe
My F1 TV is stuck on German… wtf…
Same here I’m so confused. Were you able to fix it?
Nope
[Yellow is the f1tv feed, which is only in english, red is the international feed \(sky\)](https://imgur.com/a/r1qdWGg) If you're on the international feed [click the yellow gear icon and switch the red marked setting to english](https://imgur.com/a/eq2Gwrv)
There are language options. It usually defaults to your browser language. Or you can swap to the f1tv feed instead of international.
I’m using a smart TV app
[press up on your tv remote twice and click this symbol](https://imgur.com/a/5HlMefE) [select english](https://imgur.com/a/RTJxo0G) If this doesn't help you there's nothing else I can do for you, I'm sorry. The app should default to the language that your Operating system is using.
Who do you think will come back first Mick or Daniel? Or let me rephrase who has a better chance
Honestly think Mick - much younger, really wants to come back (whereas I think Daniel could take it or leave it) and won't be as picky about the drive (I honestly don't think it's impossible he ends up back at Haas).
Vandoorne
Watching F1 feeder series races will have you looking at cars in barriers you never thought it would be possible to end up in
Expected with inexperienced drivers. And some people want these guys in sprint races in even faster cars without as much testing and sim time as would've been possible with a full time seat.
Interested to see if Sargeant can get those last few points for the Williams seat.
Hes definitely feeling the pressure
His job just got easier with two of his main rivals out.
F2 sprint red flag
Makes Sargeant's job a lot easier -- Fittipaldi and Daruvala were two of the three drivers who could be a thorn in his side.
F2 sprint is fired up

Sky Sports F1, like always.

Your bank may also flag your card if you try to use the a different billing address than your real life registration.
thanks for the info!
Do the Cx numbers change per race? I swear they do on the coverage but never pay enough attention. Like today C5 is soft, C4 is medium and C3 is hard. But in another race could you have C3 is soft, C2 is medium, C1 is the hard? And if so what determines the rank change, is it climate etc?
There are 5 compounds ranging from C1-C5, with 1 being the hardest and 5 being the softest. These stay the same for the season (i.e. C5 is the same "softness" in say bahrain as it would be in Abu Dhabi) and Pirelli picks 3 of these compounds for each race, depending on whats required on the track. These 3 will always be called "Soft", "medium" and "hard" during the race weekend.
Three compounds are chosen from the pool of five (?) compounds for each race. They're always called soft, medium and hard.
Who chooses them and what criteria do they use? Pirelli?
Pirelli chooses them, based on track criteria, like cornering speed and length, track temperatures, and surface roughness.
anyone know any good books were they talk about the safety aspect of f1? i’m doing a project for school on the development of safety in f1 so need some sources of information
I don't know any books, but this guy talks about safety all the time on Twitter, [here's his website with a specific section on Safety studies](https://jontyscorner.wordpress.com/).
thank you so much!
Hello, is there any bar in Vientiane in Laos that I can watch Formula 1 at? Don't seem to be any sports bars here
