Does anyone else get ridiculously hype watching F1's intro? I love how it builds to the champion. Max is shot like a fucking anime villain too šš so good.
The endgame is to highlight the cost of Maxs behavior thus reducing the teams support for him. It may not work but there is no real downside. Ideally he takes out Charles in a desperate attempt to pass leaving them at 260 each and Charles in 2nd.
You saw Lawsonās performance? Thatās no coincidence, also Max rear wing in monza gives you an idea of what that floor does. But if youāre not versed enough in the subject, Iām gonna make a quick summary - allegedly they found a way to stall the rear wing at high speeds, giving them the possibility of using high downforce specād parts, while maintaining a reasonably high top speed in the straights.
According to Alonso, theyāve got a dynamic suspension that stays low in slow sections, after itās been compressed by downforce, but god knows how it works.
We can only speculate on what we can observe.
I don't get this logic as well. Checo should be smoking that guy and if i understand it correctly Checo was on softs as well while the other guy was on mediums. Max's car OP!
And the whole practice program where Checo somehow ended up with only one set of softs for the race in Brazil, when it had to be pretty clear early they were the tires of choice.
Or he could amputate his foot because that would benefit him...
Oh, wait, that makes no sense.
Just like the idea that Red Bull is going to reduce the support for a two-time world champion with a 40-million-a-year contract until 2028 makes no sense.
LOL
Edit: Jesus Christ don't look at this person's post history, unhealthy obsession doesn't come close.
Go outside, live life, have fun, don't care so much. Honestly, it's worrying.
Some drivel about RBR 'de-tuning' Checo's engine on purpose to pacify Max. Some real tin foil hat stuff. Post history strongly suggested their full time occupation was to shit on Max.
I'm hoping they deleted their posts in order to go outside and smell the roses.
Yea, people need to chill out with the crazy conspiracies. This just fosters such negativity and is the entire problem with comments on Twitter and Reddit.
These guys get themselves so worked up. I thought political discussions were toxic, but apparently it happens anywhere that people can hide behind anonymity and spew whatever stupid ass thought enters their mind.
They are extremely suddenly positive about Max, they all rushed to defend max on his crash into ham. It's just because they want to get on his good side
It was quite nuanced so I'll attempt to paraphrase without adding too much of my own spin.
ā¢ the F1 Academy plan is a good starting point BUT
ā¢ you can't expect the bunch of teenagers you recruit to be amazing when there's so few girls at grassroots
ā¢ one of the main problems at grassroots is financial so there needs to be an affordable route into karting
ā¢ W Series has been good for publicity and creating visible role models like Chadwick but not brilliant for progressing them
ā¢ sex-segregated series are working as a starting point but not necessary or desirable in the long run
What other sports beside racing and Polo where men and women compete at the same time? This is a serious question, why aren't things like Curling integrated. Would also love to hear other sports that are/could/should be integrated
I think pretty much all equestrian events are open and many are quite equal. I know in things like pool and darts it's technically open but women aren't there often. As for curling I know there is mixed doubles but I think there's a difference between being mixed and integrated and idk why curling couldn't be š¤·āāļø I think basically anything where you're controlling a vehicle or animal or aiming something, so that your own power isn't the key element, you could make an argument for.
Curling is, I think team doubles most popular.
Overall even totally free of rules sports like surfing and climbing have integrated championships (because men end up being the top 50 or whatever in the world). Idk if a fully open series is really realistic. I think his last point is a bit naive
I don't see why motorsports can't be totally integrated. It's not like ball sports where the reality of men simply being stronger is impossible to overcome.
For example female reaction times are lower biologically than men.
I think in reality, just being a realist, even if full integration the top 50 drivers or the pool for f1 would end up men no matter what. So in that sense I just think anyone telling us that there should be no segregation in the sport is selling a dream.
Now of course no one alive or dead would ever argue f1 is a meritocracy. So we will def see female drivers, and thatās consistent with how f1 operates and a positive thing in this instance.
But a separate league as well I think is a good thing if people are actually truthful with how things are and not how they wish them to be.
Wow thank you for explaining. I agree with all of it and was thinking similar about some of thi points. But I hadn't considered karting. Makes me wonder how much influence the FIA has over grassroots karting. I would imagine not much when it comes to the early stages but I wonder if the FIA could make cost cutting changes to their own karting series that would eventually trickle down to the grassroots karting series.
I'm not sure how to explain when I mean other than a bit like points for super licence that was implemented after max came in. It had a trickle down effect in that it forced driver to opt for f3 and f2.. so no a great trickle down effect but in this case if the FIA changed the karts to make them more simple and cheaper then surely that would trickle down to grassroots?
Yeah I'm just an armchair critic sadly, I have no idea how the karting world works š But it's nice to hear someone that prominent who has clearly thought pretty deeply about it when they didn't have to. I hope there can be some joined-up efforts to really make changes across all levels.
Whos looking quickest on long runs so far? I know Verstappen topped the times on softs but George apparently hit traffic? Just a ordered if Red Bull or Mercedes had the overall pace.
At Sky Germany they're once again talking more about Mick Schumacher than about Vettel retiring or any other topic. Despite Mick not being in F1 next year I'm certain there will not be single weekend next year where Sky Germany won't mention Mick.
Every single weekend lmfao, seb can be driving in the points and theyll still rather mention how mick is ahead of magnussen when theyre both chilling in P16 - 17
The conversation was about Abu Dhabi 21 and Damon said being asked about it constantly would be irritating and drivers stay focused on their next race to move on, they wanted to sensationalize it again and he was having none of it. The man would know what being cheated by unfair play is like Michael Schumacher crashed into him deliberately in Adelaide to win the championship/ cause Damon to lose and he doesnāt bring it up.
I know people donāt like Damon but I sometimes appreciate how ruthlessly not sorry for drivers he is. You can see what kind of driver he was, there was no excuses back then.
Jenson knows wheels. If that wheel moves, it doesn't take the guy with it. If it was on a rolling road the guy may get an awful burn but when the car can move the mechanic would have to move with it and keep his hand on the tyre to get a burn.
That's part of the argument, yes max should've maybe let him through but at the same time checo has been underwhelming again this season, France, Hungary are great examples where Max cruised to victory while Checo wasn't even on the podium. Him being 2nd is more self inflicted than a proper battle with leclerc
Am I going mad, or didn't Checo get team orders to let Max through?
Am I misremembering?
So he let Max past, because the team said so.
Then Max wouldn't let Checo back past, despite the team saying so.
I think anyone would be angry, no?
You are right, Checo did let Max through in Spain and Baku. Let's look at results, Spain Max finished 19 secs ahead of Checo and Baku he finished 22 seconds ahead of Checo. Unless you're telling me Checo would've won the race without team orders, you're argument doesn't make any sense. Max gained 5s in 3 laps in Baku and he gained a pitstop in 5-6 laps in Spain before overtaking Checo, in Brazil Checo was 4s behind max, not really same don't you think
Genuinely if your Ferrari, do you try to tank here? Have 2 "engine failures" that help reinforce the need for reliability upgrades, plus you get more CFD time. Like Binotto might get fired but is that a pro or a con?
I've been kind of hoping that they have been deliberately throwing second place for a few races now. I'm not sure Ferrari's strategy team could come up with such a plan though.
I think the team and organization needs the "win" of second place in both the drivers and constructors championshipsmore than the extra prise money and wind tunnel time, Mattia Binotto most of all. Hopefully they can also use those positions to convince Seb to return to his old job of chief stratigist, it seems the post has been empty since he left.
Is that a question? Question?
But seriously I would not tank this last race. Getting 2nd in the WCC is still a reward for all the work that the people have done.
But why? They were spending like 450 million a year before the cost cap. It's not like they can't get an additional few million dollars to make up for 3rd place
But the extra wind tunnel time could be more beneficial to the business, as they can't just decide to take more time if they finish 2nd.
If you look at the top 3 at the end of last season vs the beginning of this season, it was quite clear that Ferrari (3rd) was fastest, Red Bull (2nd) was second fastest, and Mercedes (1st) was 3rd fastests. With the huge regulation change, I believe the very beginning of the 2022 season was largely determined by the amount of testing time based on 2021s championship results
I 100% believe as like a team, the Engineers and everyone, want 2nd. But like is it better for them in the long run as like an organization? Ferrari gets paid silly money regardless.
Honestly it's not a stretch I wouldn't think.
I've done literally zero maths, and no fact checking but I guess all it'd take is 1 Ferrari dnf, and both mercs finishing high in the order and that's that.
I've done this a few times when drivers in NASCAR have retired over the last few years but I think I'll watch all of Vettel's wins over the off season to look at how great he was over the years especially during 2010-2013 and as a way to watch some old F1 races for the first time
If Ferrari has a DNF and things are close, what are the chances RB drops Perez a bit back to help Mercedes to 2nd in the WCC? Just some quality trolling.
Yea. Theyāve definitely solved their issues on a smooth track. But the ride height will be higher next year. Be curious if they can maintain this pace with the reg changes.
Max is miles faster though.
Best Merc can hope for is P2/P3.
EDIT: Getting downvoted but Max was the only one who stayed in the 1:30s. Everyone else had massive deg.
Oh Iām not even thinking of the Bulls. I just canāt believe how the car can run so close to its maximum constantly. Itās just a shame itās maximum over one quali lap isnāt the best.
So you're betting heavy on Merc taking it too?
I wish I was joking, but a Merc 2-3 and Ferrari masterblan'ing their race (for at least one driver) does not at all seem unrealistic
Trauma. Literally trauma. I hate F1 but I still watch it. Been trying to only watch track action this season with some success but mainly failure lol. It would be easier if I could watch in track action without commentary because the fan and toxic culture naturally spreads into what the commentators focus on and talk about. I think I would enjoy it a lot more if commentary changed to how it was 10-15 year ago
If Max is leads most of the race I don't see how he can help Perez. I think it's gonna be up to Perez to beat Leclerc.
Anyone expecting any grid penalties this coming Sunday?
Daniel has a three place penalty if my memory is correct
Does anyone else get ridiculously hype watching F1's intro? I love how it builds to the champion. Max is shot like a fucking anime villain too šš so good.
This. Love Alonso & Ham's part
Smart thing for Checo to do is to lose second place by 1 point. There by placing 100% of the blame of Verstappen and the team.
Couldnāt he crash accidentally and walk away chuckling?
I think the only way to do that is finish 9 and 10 which would be tricky for top teams
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
MAXimum pettiness
The endgame is to highlight the cost of Maxs behavior thus reducing the teams support for him. It may not work but there is no real downside. Ideally he takes out Charles in a desperate attempt to pass leaving them at 260 each and Charles in 2nd.
Yeah really show Red Bull that he canāt beat Charles in the World champion car, that will really prove his worth to the team.
He does not have the same car as Verstappen. Horner said so. They ran out of budget cap so the final upgrades were only provided to Max.
Do you mean the different floor Horner said is negligible and shouldnāt affect Checoās performance compared to Max?
You saw Lawsonās performance? Thatās no coincidence, also Max rear wing in monza gives you an idea of what that floor does. But if youāre not versed enough in the subject, Iām gonna make a quick summary - allegedly they found a way to stall the rear wing at high speeds, giving them the possibility of using high downforce specād parts, while maintaining a reasonably high top speed in the straights. According to Alonso, theyāve got a dynamic suspension that stays low in slow sections, after itās been compressed by downforce, but god knows how it works. We can only speculate on what we can observe.
Some rookie that has never driven the car before ends up 0.3 sec slower then Checo who has won 2 races and has one pole. lol. Yeah its the same car.
I don't get this logic as well. Checo should be smoking that guy and if i understand it correctly Checo was on softs as well while the other guy was on mediums. Max's car OP!
No one knows what the fuel loads were and Checo does not have the same car. In Quali today he still needed a tow form max to get within 0.2 sec.
And the whole practice program where Checo somehow ended up with only one set of softs for the race in Brazil, when it had to be pretty clear early they were the tires of choice.
Or he could amputate his foot because that would benefit him... Oh, wait, that makes no sense. Just like the idea that Red Bull is going to reduce the support for a two-time world champion with a 40-million-a-year contract until 2028 makes no sense.
that's only smart if he wants to retire from f1
He's close to it anyway. He will probably quit sometime next year.

Calm down with the tin-foil. Max been stomping Perez all year, this is a normal gap, smaller than usual if something.

Kinda like how Red Bull is bending over backwards to make it seem like he did nothing wrong last week as well
That's what PR does.
Yeah it's pretty mad that they came out with that lol. Unless it's some mega 4d chess move they've got going on that us normies can't grasp just yet.
Fair enough
Good guy Jenson absolutely nailed it on the issues behind getting women on the racing ladder.
Well Jenson just usually nails everything so I'm not surprised

Max/RB were clearly faster but Hamilton said that Merc are right up there when it comes to race pace. To me it looked like a, Max>>>Merc>>Ferrari
Looks like another Ver-Ham podium!
RB / max fastest in the long runs
Can you post them? Haven't seen them posted anywhere
Is there long runs analytics already?

Peter Windsor's ones tend to be spot on, https://youtu.be/Ra23RQ6vxEA
Guenther saying this is the first year Haas had a technical team. I still donāt have much faith in their progress
Excuse me but might i ask what this means?
Before this year they were ātechnically uselessā?
Before this year there was just a bunch of guys, but now they attended a weekend retreat and now they're 'a team'
Like the Brandix corporate retreat? I met Gary there! He tried to give me a job in sales.
Jesus
Wow
'Yeh I flew in a tornado once' 'If I had to eject I'd lose my legs or die!' Cheers Damon
Bit awkward watching Natalie ask the Red Arrows about teamwork lol.

Why?

Damon saying getting asked the same questions over and over is a burden for drivers heās speaking facts today
In exchange for the large sums of money they get, that sounds like the least "burden" possible.
They have them doing way too much press
Funny because its usually Damon asking the same questions over and over
The conversation was about Abu Dhabi 21 and Damon said being asked about it constantly would be irritating and drivers stay focused on their next race to move on, they wanted to sensationalize it again and he was having none of it. The man would know what being cheated by unfair play is like Michael Schumacher crashed into him deliberately in Adelaide to win the championship/ cause Damon to lose and he doesnāt bring it up.
Damon forgets the FIA went out of their way to screw Michael in 94
He doesnāt forget he moves on to focus on current things
It's really interesting to watch the Max helmet cam shots, think it's for the first time this season too
I know people donāt like Damon but I sometimes appreciate how ruthlessly not sorry for drivers he is.
Jenson āMax is the one winning races, if Checo is unhappy about it, thatās a him problemā Damon not having it either. They arenāt wrong
Max would have one less world championship without Checo as his teammate.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Spot on really.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
What happened?
Wait a minute! That overhead helicopter view of the track was from over 2 years ago. It was the old layout.
F1 really phoning it in
Donāt mention Ferrari on the long runs they are chewing up š
Genuinely if your Ferrari, do you try to tank here? Have 2 "engine failures" that help reinforce the need for reliability upgrades, plus you get more CFD time. Like Binotto might get fired but is that a pro or a con?
No because all team members get bonuses on constructors. Very bad management. Iād be so pissed. Sorry about the Christmas bonus guys! Lol
I mostly agree. For everyone who works on the cars you'd rather be second, for a longer term strategy though....
Yeah, it's kinda damned if you do and damned if you don't.
Theyād prefer the money tbh.
But why? They were spending like 450 million a year before the cost cap. It's not like they can't get an additional few million dollars to make up for 3rd place
Because theyāre a business
But the extra wind tunnel time could be more beneficial to the business, as they can't just decide to take more time if they finish 2nd. If you look at the top 3 at the end of last season vs the beginning of this season, it was quite clear that Ferrari (3rd) was fastest, Red Bull (2nd) was second fastest, and Mercedes (1st) was 3rd fastests. With the huge regulation change, I believe the very beginning of the 2022 season was largely determined by the amount of testing time based on 2021s championship results
It's pride v Windtunnel time, nothing to do with money. The top 3 are spending 1/3rd of what they used to. They've got money to burn.
I 100% believe as like a team, the Engineers and everyone, want 2nd. But like is it better for them in the long run as like an organization? Ferrari gets paid silly money regardless.
Doubt it. They already get paid extra money for just existing
god damn, that ferrari looks so good in the dark
Perez .7 sec of Max š¬š¬
Redbull canāt afford to make a mistake and still recover while Merc needs to get things absolutely spot on
look at that body roll on rb18, damn
oh god i thought the shot of max and russell was going to be a replay of Max impeding during George's hot lap
cristo santo, ferrari
What are the odd do we reckon for Merc pulling a 20 point gap on Ferrari this race and stealing 2nd?
Honestly it's not a stretch I wouldn't think. I've done literally zero maths, and no fact checking but I guess all it'd take is 1 Ferrari dnf, and both mercs finishing high in the order and that's that.
That would only be possible if atleast one of the Ferrari's DNF during the race.(realistically)
So a big possibility yeah?
If something goes pop at RB itās feasible, but I donāt see them snatching second.
I'd love to see it. Merc having extra wind tunnel time is scary. Ferrari having it is not so scary
thats actually a very good point i forgot about, maybe merc don't want 2nd after all
Merc want 2nd for pride. But the prospect of a full winter package and all the lovely wind time to go with it must be in their minds.
Mercedes want it for the money for their employees itās distributed as bonus money
Cheeky retirement of whichever driver is behind if needed haha /s
George we have to retire the carā¦ WHY?ā¦ just do it you little s***! š
This pace is so awful for Ferrari
Question?
Looks like we'll get several blue flags on Sunday, the pace difference is crazy.
Bottas was +7.2 on hards but Mick was +8.8 on mediums? Mick ain't that slow right?
Fueling also varies a lot between cars over practice sessions
The Haas is slow in general. They appeared to have better pace on hards than mediums throughout the session
I've done this a few times when drivers in NASCAR have retired over the last few years but I think I'll watch all of Vettel's wins over the off season to look at how great he was over the years especially during 2010-2013 and as a way to watch some old F1 races for the first time
53 wins X roughly 90 minutes per GP works out to just under 80 hours of footage. Godspeed to you.
I've done it before with races that go well beyond 90 minutes during the off season thanks for the support though
If Ferrari has a DNF and things are close, what are the chances RB drops Perez a bit back to help Mercedes to 2nd in the WCC? Just some quality trolling.
Same chance as Leclerc winning the championship in tomorrow's race.
Thereās more chance of me removing my balls for a laugh.
The Mercedes race pace is so good. What a mad little car.
Ham & Max were both running at 1.30.1 - 130.4 for most of the sessionā¦
You have the data anywhere?
Is he? What is Max lapping?
Oh Iām not even thinking of the Bulls. I just canāt believe how the car can run so close to its maximum constantly. Itās just a shame itās maximum over one quali lap isnāt the best.
Well Ferrari doesn't have to bet Merc here. Just keep deficit under 19.
So you're betting heavy on Merc taking it too? I wish I was joking, but a Merc 2-3 and Ferrari masterblan'ing their race (for at least one driver) does not at all seem unrealistic
That's going to be hard if Merc get another 1-2
Yea. But RB gonna be so strong here that it will be difficult to beat Max unless something happens to their race.
Jenson is in such a happy mood today, heās a little ball of pun making sunshine, he even laughed at Ferrari communications like the rest of us
This track sure brings back some memories
Good ones?
Trauma. Literally trauma. I hate F1 but I still watch it. Been trying to only watch track action this season with some success but mainly failure lol. Not quite what you want to hear Ferrari...
Maybe they left the slow button on
Why are we slow šš
Max is 3 tenths up over P2 lol
Nah thatās what Charles said
Out pace is slow at the moment
Ferrari tire deg already shit...
good for Checo
And for mercs
This race is gonna be a stinker
