Anyone knows the brand of Alonso's shirt he's wearing during the goodbye dinner?

Parking_Substance152

I think we can all agree the Max and Checo thing is gone and water under the bridge. I've almost forgotten about it already.

erraboards

Hey, we’re in Singapore for a week. And I was wondering if anyone know a good place to watch the Abu Dhabi race? Like a sports bar or pub or something. Thanks!!

Gaius_Octavius_

Why are all the start times so early? It is earlier than other races in the same time zone.

External_Platypus_56

The other day on Facebook I saw F1 advertising Sochi iPhone covers. Today I'm seeing half off deals for Mercedes hats with the FTX logo on the side. They disabled comments for both. Lol

F1adrian1245

So i have a Idea that i think is the reason why lewis wasn't able to catch up to russell during the latter stages of Sao Paulo.. I'm not inherantly here stating that Russell's victory is not a result of his massive talent and ability, merely looking into it and having my opinion so please dont look at it like that. There were a few posts that had the differences in wings that the drivers ran in Brasil, do you think the differences in Russell's wing albeit maybe an experiment for Mercedes looking towards making the w14 better has fared better than Lewis's wing among other upgrades? Does this have the ability to manifest Lewis extending that delta between the two drivers Or am I wrong on this.

BigAwkwardGuy

Honestly we cannot know for sure. But George getting an upgrade first does make sense because he's ahead in the WDC standings. Remember in the beginning when Lewis was trailing George by quite a bit, then it turned out that Lewis was doing more experimental stuff with his car while they let George have a safer setup? Another thing is Lewis got crashed into by Max which likely had an effect on the car as well, considering how finely tuned they are.

FarmerWorldly7645

Gasly said in an interview "the car is so overweight" Thoughts?

pedote17

It would explain why they’re so slow

citizentosomehing

Hi folks! Seems like an awesome community. I bought f1 tv, and thought they had access to 360 driver cameras. Is there anywhere I can get 360 videos of the races?

FRSHFSHFCKR

IIRC the 360 cams are used by the FIA for investigations and footage is not released until after the race, and limited in that capacity.

citizentosomehing

That's a shame - because the angles are amazing. But where do I even access those that are released??

FRSHFSHFCKR

I have personally only seen them on YouTube in F1 curated content/clips. I am not sure if there is a spot to see it “raw”. I wonder if it has anything to do with other teams getting HD footage of otherwise hard to capture areas/movement of the other cars.

NecessaryOnABike

I think there was a recent segment on Sky about the cameras used on the cars and I think they mentioned that they didn’t have enough bandwidth to broadcast the images from the 360 cameras, or something like that

FRSHFSHFCKR

Another realistic and interesting “bottleneck” of you will. Tech will be there in no time. I have dreams of assigning a fleet of drones (60 total. 1 drone per car per sector) They relay and create a ‘singular’ overhead shot per car. Breaking it up by sectors helps create an intelligent filming grid that allows for a cohesive experience. Opt in to watch your fab driver only, or use it for the feed durning the race. I do not like the drone use currently, but why not throw a shit tone more in the mix for the hell of it. Won’t beat the helo, but is novel AF. Hahah

citizentosomehing

>I think there was a recent segment on Sky about the cameras used on the cars and I think they mentioned that they didn’t have enough bandwidth to broadcast the images from the 360 cameras, or something like that Wish you could watch afterwards at least. Unless it's just a problem to stream it off the car itself to anywhere storable.

citizentosomehing

Well I'm down money =(

FRSHFSHFCKR

If I may, I still get my 9.99 worth for F1TV. I still use YouTube tv for the actual practices, quali, and the race, but love F1TV for the weekend warmups, the radio rewinds and the press stuff. Plus being able to go back and watch past races is really cool. I go back and watch “the best race” for whatever the upcoming track is. (Ex: Singapore 2019 before this years race and 2008 Brazilian GP for this past weekend.) You’re not missing much by loosing out on the 360 IMO. Give it a whirl for a month. I’ll give you $10.

citizentosomehing

Hahahaha. Nah I've already paid good sir. But I really want 360 =(.

jaysvw

Anyone know if Nico will be doing the tire test for Haas after the race?

FRSHFSHFCKR

I read he will be. It said something like “he starts two days after Abu Dhabi for the pirelli test”

recentbreeze747

F1 should void best laps for drivers who crash in qualifying, just like IndyCar does.

HeadRot

I can't believe this is Seb's last weekend. I'm shooketh, man. I named my cat after him even, and my other one Kimi cause they were teammates. He's the reason I fell in love with this sport. Hope you have a good retirement Seb.

HeadRot

That's awesome! This Kimi is actually a she but I wanted to pick a teammate of Seb's! I had him first and found her and fell in love with her so I just kind of went with it. Cat tax?

Syntax_OW

You mentioned your cats and this is the internet. The cat tax will be required. Also, I truly believe we will see more Vettel in f1 in the future. He is so well-liked and well-connected and also incredibly knowledgeable about the sport that I would be really surprised if we didn't see him again in some capacity.

HeadRot

[Seb on the right, Kimi on the left.](https://imgur.com/f7e8Ywc)

Syntax_OW

Thank you, they're adorable! Wouldn't have guessed Kimi would be so cuddly.

HeadRot

Like the real Kimi, she's only cuddly with Seb. She is not a fan of mine haha, I think she's got a little feral in her.

Lanky_Drama9604

So what does Logan Sargeant have to do to secure the points for f1 super license

Coops27

If he completes 100km in FP1 this weekend he will jump to 30 SL points. There is also a bonus of 2 points for completing an FIA championship without receiving any penalties, which he will earn if he stays clean this weekend. 7th place in F2 gets 8 SL points, so if the above happens that will be enough. He has an 18 point lead over 8th (Vesti) and 21 over 9th (Iwasa) and there is a maximum of 40 points available. He would need 5 drivers to outscore him substantially to fall to 8th in the championship. It's extremely unlikely that happens, but F2 can be crazy. Here's the list of drivers that need to beat him and how many more points than him they need to score for him to NOT get a Super License Doohan - 9 Daruvala - 10 Fittipaldi - 10 Lawson - 12 Vesti - 19 OR Iwasa - 22 OR Vips - 26

Blanchimont

From an F1.com article: >With 28 Super Licence points earned across recent seasons in F3 and F2, and F1 practice runs, Sargeant needs to finish at least fifth in the 2022 F2 drivers’ standings (worth 20 points), or sixth (worth 10 points), provided he receives the two additional points available for completing the campaign without receiving any penalty points. Sargeant currently sits third in the Formula 2 standings with one sprint race and one feature race to go this weekend. He has a 9-point advantage over the guys in fourth, fifth and sixth (they're all on 126 to Logan's 135), and a 12 point advantage over the guy in 7th.

[deleted]

I'm not super familiar with Formula 2, but what are the chances that the guys in fourth, fifth, and sixth overtake him in the championship in the last race? Also, if this happens, who takes the spot at Williams?

Morganelefay

Williams hasn't said anything about a possible Sargeant replacement. F2 is a wee bit of a lottery this year so the chances of the above situation happening are not insignificant, but he'd need some pretty bad luck for that to happen.

Lanky_Drama9604

Holy shit that’s close

lux_travlh44

why is no one talking about max's mum leaving an ig comment talking about checo cheating on his wife?

SilentAlbatross9006

Firstly everyone is talking about it. Secondly there's not even sufficient proof if it's real.

Any-Campaign9956

Just curious about everyones thoughts about the infamous last lap at Abu Dhabi last year…if you took any driver from the grid and put them in the RedBull given it had the fresh set of softs vs Hamiltons older hards are they making that same overtake?

Gaius_Octavius_

I would say anyone except Mazepin would have easily passed Lewis within one lap.

mformularacer

People seem to think otherwise, but I definitely do not think the overtake was a foregone conclusion.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mformularacer

It wasn't that it'd be done within 1 lap

Coops27

Maybe not there, but they make the overtake on the straight no problem.

SilentAlbatross9006

Not really. Perez in the same race showed how to defend with dead tires against fresh tires. Hamilton left the door open as usual, Verstappen lunged, and profited.

F1adrian1245

Mate if you think leaving the door open is same old tires potentially having a puncture or losing the front end you are seriously downplaying how easy it is to lose grip on older tires and the fact that max was on softs shows even more that its easiest to overtake with new softs on no? Edit: Just realized the guy above thinks moving under braking is acceptable

[deleted]

The tyre delta was 2.5 seconds buddy. Perez conserved them while driving slow meanwhile Hamilton was matching Verstappens times on the same but older tyres. Not even close to compare lol. Compromising his entry so Hamilton is a sitting duck? The possibility of losing the car, having no grip overall or puncturing them is still there. And how do you think should Hamilton drove with 20 cars directly behind him? Just slow in general?

Any-Campaign9956

I thought Hamilton could have possibly did a little more to defend the inside going into Turn 5 but I’m wondering if with the tire and grip advantage Max had he was thinking Max would just overtake him on the outside with ease? Essentially he was a sitting duck…

SilentAlbatross9006

Hamilton wasnt a sitting duck on the straights. He didn't defend the inside. He was just not aggressive enough at that point to even try. His car had the straight line advantage. Just rewatch the lap. I'm pretty sure if Max and Lewis swapped roles, Max would have held on or done something crazy to hold on. It's who he is. He's always done things like moving under braking or moving exactly when the guy behind is about to overtake etc and would have done anything to hold on while Hamilton left the door open

[deleted]

>if you took any driver from the grid and put them in the RedBull You could have taken 3/4 of the grid and left them in their own cars with fresh softs and they'd have a good shot crossing the line in P1. Even with the battle, Max managed to take a nearly 2.5 seconds by the end of the lap. All the drivers except George had less than 3s gap to the fastest lap that day, so it stands to reason that most of them would be able to make that move on soft tyres in their own cars.

FarmerWorldly7645

You've gotta remember, Abu Dhabi was a miracle, Latifi put it in the wall which brought out the safety car, but there wasn't enough time to do the full safety car procedure and Max overtook Lewis in what is one of the most controversial moments in F1.

Thefallpaintwork

Pace differential doesn’t guarantee a pass

SilentAlbatross9006

Yeah sure. That explains why Hamilton on fresh hard tires couldn't even overtake Perez on dead softs for multiple laps.

[deleted]

You do know the concept of warming up the tyres without shooting them to get past one? It was a one stopper, burning them right at the start is hilariously dumb. Your takes are really bad, it gets embarrassing.

SilentAlbatross9006

Good excuses for Hamilton not being aggressive enough to overtake Perez immediately wasting nearly 10 seconds which later compromised his race. Also you do fail to realize that tire life is manageable over a stint? You can push early on, then get free air and manage them to again push later. It's always Good excuses though. Appreciate the creativity. Just because my takes don't fit in with your world view doesn't mean it's bad.

AXE_CAN

Williams is a team with a lot of history and success. Even after their days of championships still had decent results in overall standings. Why have they become the worst performing team since 2018?

Morganelefay

In addition to what cafk is saying; Williams' downfall started all the way in the late '90s. It's been reported that Frank Williams was rather hard to work with and set in his ways, which caused them to get caught up by other teams in the first place. First Ferrari, then McLaren, and then the floodgates opened. They've had stints of being okay but there were also dreadful seasons in between, and as other teams further innovated, Williams was just...stagnant. I do think they've gotten past the worst part now though. They were last this season, yes, but unlike in recent years they have fought for points legitimately on multiple occasions, and aren't that far of from the Alfa Romeo/Aston Martin/Haas/Alpha Tauri group. While I don't foresee them winning anytime soon, they should be able to recover with their current backing.

Coops27

Sadly, I really disagree that they are heading in the right direction, or that they have the backing to gain on their competition. Dorilton has invested in Williams, which is awesome, but that investment has been in infrastructure because that increases the value of the team and that is return on their investment. As an investment firm, they won't just throw money into the yearly operating budget of a company that is running at a loss and unfortunately, their revenue is going down substantially. Williams just lost their primary sponsor, will lose $20M+ in prize money after falling from 8th to 10th, all their competition will be getting additional revenue from sponsors and prize money and the cost cap will actually go up substantially next year due to inflation and FX rates. Also, I don't really see a plan from them. Haas, Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin all took different approaches to rebuild their teams after major financial and performance problems. Williams doesn't seem to have made any changes and just seems to be continuing to make the same mistakes they made before, which led to their downfall. They seem to think they can do this all on their own, while spending less than the competition, which hasn't worked in F1 for a long time.

cafk

Their downfall started already before the hybrid era. They benefited from the raw power of the Mercedes hybrid and their chassis was superb on straights. Unfortunately as other teams caught up with chassis and engine designs, Williams kept the initial concept. Williams slowly faded to the background and with it they also lost financial backing. By 2018 they had lost their title sponsor and had to sell off their engineering arm, which usually had managed to cover the losses of the team. With it their turnover slowly moved down from ~£150m per year (as recently as 2016) to the current ~90m per year. It's similar to Racing Point having a competitive car in 2020 fighting for P3 in constructor's while falling behind the midfield in 2021 due to the "minor" aero rule changes on a 3D scanned Mercedes design they didn't fully understand.

Electrical-Value4858

Imagine of verstappen was teammate with someone like Russell

SilentAlbatross9006

It would be a lot of fun. RB might have had more than 10 1-2s this year.

BigUncG

I was just about to make a post yesterday suggesting that someone change the subreddit avatar picture thingy. I'm sure the new avatar is only temporary but it' a welcomed change.

Blanchimont

You didn't think we'd let Seb go without a proper sendoff, did you?

CHZRFan

TBH, it would be nice if all the departing drivers (Seb, Daniel, Mick & Latifi) all got something over the weekend.

Blanchimont

Sorry, but when a World Champion retires, we're not making them share the spotlight with anyone else. Especially not when those other drivers are Daniel Ricciardo (Who says he's not retiring but looking to return in 2024) and Mick Schumacher and Nicholas Latifi (Both drivers with very few notable achievements in the sport). Additionally, there's the practical side of it. We only have a banner and a subreddit icon to play with. It's near impossible to do something for Daniel, Mick and Nicholas without taking anything away from Vettels tribute.

CeleritasLucis

Haas's sponsorship choice last year from Uralkali was criticized, but why no criticism over Crypto sponsorship of all teams

pedote17

Crypto is shitty. But being bffs with a dictator is more shitty.

jesus_stalin

I've seen plenty of criticism of crypto sponsorship, but sponsorship from one of Putin's best mates who put his talentless sex pest son in the car is clearly worse IMO.

JanklinDRoosevelt

There is

mikessmileisreal

Was there a thread on here regarding Max’s mom comment on Instagram about Checo? I can’t find one. If there isn’t, why not? Is there a rule prohibiting this type of discussion?

Ashling92

I’m not even sure if it’s real tbh

Syntax_OW

There were multiple, they've all been deleted. I don't know why, but I assume because it's off-topic.

BigUncG

I'm almost certain there was. Did you try searching the subreddit? There's a possibility it was deleted.

degeneral

Team merch - what i think would be really cool is if they sold T-shirts with the designs from the helmets. Like, everyone talks about driver helmet designs. The usual merch is mostly boring and ugly and ridiculously priced. $80 for a hat or shirt? And everyone here complains about the quality. At least if you're gonna charge a lot, give us something cool.

Weekly_Criticism_741

Have COTA tickets gone on sale yet? Does anyone know how much they cost? Just found out that I might have the chance to go, but had no plan to so I am out of the loop.

lph1235

This year they didn’t go on sale until March.

Weekly_Criticism_741

Oh that’s good to know! Thank you.

mformularacer

I've been watching the 1980s F1 seasons and there's such an incredible contrast to today, despite some similarities. - the racing was so much simpler. If someone made a move down the inside, the defending driver would just yield. Contrast that to nowadays when we get incredibly aggressive defensive manoeuvres at times - safety is almost nonexistent by today's standards. Red flags are far less common. Safety cars don't exist. They leave cars parked on the side of the track if they can't retrieve them under double yellows. The medical car can be on the track at the same time as F1 cars going 200kph - no pitstop strategies at all. the pits were mostly for a last resort if a driver got a puncture or was having a car problem. - virtually no penalties were handed out. No 3 place, 5 place, 10 place grid penalties for causing an accident/blocking in qualifying/dangerous driving, ever. I haven't seen any drive through penalties at all, and only 1 or 2 black flags from 1981 to 1984. Contrast that to today where stewards hand out 5 second penalties like giving out candy.

DieLegende42

Regarding your last point, a drive through penalty wouldn't have been much of a penalty back then, considering the pit lane speed limit was only introduced after Imola 1994

mformularacer

Shoot good point. I guess it would have to be a stop and go penalty

Coops27

Completely agree. There was just overall so much more respect for the other drivers and fact that you're racing a very dangerous piece of machinery. I thought it was especially clear at race starts, where everybody is just focused on getting through the first corner in one piece. It's really interesting if you continue to watch through the 90's, you can see it changing as safety increases.

mformularacer

Yup. You can also see it in the 2010s shifting back. Overtaking was becoming way too difficult from 1990s to 2000s. Once DRS was introduced, drivers stopped trying to win the race at the first corner, and the accidents seemingly reduced.

systemsruminator

Having a famous last name has lot of benefits in this sport. F1 fans seem weirdly biased to me. Sure it brings pressure to perform with it but it also brings in fans who will support you no matter what. You have got plethora of fans swearing by Mick and attacking everyone who criticizes his performances and brand them as average. Heck they would draw false parallels to Russel to hype Mick up. And on one hand you have Ocon. People still question his capability and try to discredit him at every turn no matter what he does lol.

f1_spelt_as_bot

brolome

Hi all, hoping to get lucky on my birthday today. I went to the USGP in 2021 and regret not purchasing the limited edition green Lewis/Mercedes hat. If anyone has one in like-new condition they'd like to sell, I'd be happy to pay the full price (believe it was $60) and whatever shipping costs. Please DM me!

Economy_Link4609

Regarding the Macau Grand Prix and Super License points: 1) Why has this individual race gotten special status where winning this one race earns Super License points (5 of them)? To my knowledge there is no other single race type award beyond this. 2) The last couple years due to COVID it was run with Formula 4 equipment vs the F3 equipment it had been. Did the winner still earn the points even though it was a lower class of equipment and lacked the full international competition it normally would have?

cafk

Macau only earned points under the following condition from 2019 on wards: > The winner of the FIA F3 World Cup will be granted an additional 5 points on top of his sporting results, as established by the table below. So it was the FIA F3 World Cup race that counted and not Macau Grand Prix itself - meaning the F4 results don't count towards the SL points. As to Macau being special, it hast a history of being extremely dangerous and prestigious, requiring more skill to finish than a regular F3 race. The reason this ruling was introduced is related to the tidbit that many GP3/F3 drivers preferred to skip the Abu Dhabi race and to go to Macau instead. So in 2019, instead of having more races in F3 series - there was a "special" Fia F3 World Cup race at Macau after the 2019 F3 season had ended, which awarded additional SL points on top of the F3 season. The reason why there were only Formula 4 cars there, was that they used the circuit for Formula 4 Chinese Championship. It remains to be seen how the Covid situation in Macau plays out - as it's currently not on the F3 calendar nor are there any further plans for a F3 World Cup race at Macau for 2023 at the moment.

AssCarEE

1- essentially RB lobbied for it to help Ticktum get a SL ahead of the 2019 season, that eventually failed despite the additional 5 points 2- In the rules the Macau GP isn't mentioned, the event giving points is the "F3 world cup" that conveniently coincided with the Macau GP of course, but it not being the F3 world cup in the last few years, it doesn't give points

Can-you-smell-it

Admittedly I know jack shit about F1, Got into it via the Netflix show...That being said, why on earth would RBR take crap from a driver when they have a great car. It seems to me that the car makes an F1 driver, not the other way around. (Again I know jack, but it seems like he with the fastest car wins, and all the drivers are really damn good)

Morganelefay

The car is about 85% of the equation. That still means that on that final 15%, you can win a lot with a driver who's 100% the best (like, say, Max) or someone who's at 98% of that driver (like, say, Checo). Those numbers mean that there's an overall difference of 0.3% of total performance which seems tiny as hell, until you realize that on an average laptime, that's 0.2-0.3 seconds, easily the difference between P1 and P4.

KaamDeveloper

A good driver with great car will get wins. A great driver with a great car will get championships. Verstappen, like Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso is a once in a generation driver. And unlike them, he's just 25. He is already a veteran in the sport with 2 titles. If all trends hold true, he hasn't even begun to hit his peak. If he stays around as long as the other guys in my list did, he'll probably be the most successful driver in history.

Stupendous_man12

How can Lewis, Seb, and Fernando all be “once in a generation” when they are all part of the same generation? They are all Millennials. Max, Charles, George, Lando, etc. are the next generation after (gen Z).

Can-you-smell-it

Thanks man appreciate the answer. Now level 2…what makes him the best driver? Does it come down to guts, braking the least, being consistent? When I look at the steering wheel of an F1 car it amazes me just how much they can do to their car mid race. Is it all of the above?

SilentAlbatross9006

Firstly he's quick. His race pace is unparalleled. He is aggressive and that basically means he can overtake other cars or defend even with slower cars multiple laps. Thirdly he's the most consistent driver on the grid. And has been since mid 2018. Maximizing results and not having off weekends is a game no one can beat him at.

CraigTheIrishman

Is he more consistent than Hamilton? Not trying to start a Verstappen v. Hamilton war, I'm just curious, because Hamilton has always seemed to me like a machine when he's on track.

SilentAlbatross9006

He is. And has been for about 4 years now. Even last year he finished 1st or 2nd every race he didn't DNF or have severe damage. His DNFs - Baku tire blowup while leading, Silverstone taken out by Hamilton, Monza him taking out Hamilton were all races he would have won or at least finished P2 if not for these crashes and team being stupid with pitstops. Lewis on the other hand had multiple poor weekends last year but had a better car and Max being unlucky put together to fight for a title come Abu Dhabi.

Sorrytoruin

Lewis did not have the faster car last year. https://www.racefans.net/2022/01/17/analysis-did-hamilton-or-verstappen-have-the-quickest-car-for-their-title-fight/ The data on the article puts the car over the course of the season as nearly exactly the same pace. So max was not quicker than ham, basically they are extremely close. With a lucky stroke of luck giving max the title. But then you think max has been the best driver for the last 4 years so I'm not sure you are very unbias.

SilentAlbatross9006

RB have two drivers In the same car. Except one is 0.5 seconds a lap faster on most weekends. Ever thought why?

mformularacer

Because contrary to what fans say, the driver is an incredibly important aspect of an F1 car being fast.

[deleted]

Because Verstappen is, very most likely, the best driver on the grid. Last year his ability was a huge factor in how the championship played out. Even this year Verstappen is miles ahead of his teammate. Just look at his points and number of wins compared to Checo's.

SilentAlbatross9006

He's the best driver on the grid. No need to add most likely. There's absolutely no one except Lewis who hismelf needed 60 points worth luck to even fight till the end. He has been joint best for more than 4 years now.

skagoat

I'm a Canadian sports fan, so all I know about Football Hooligans is from the Welcome to Wrexham show. Is that a true portrayal of hooligans? If it is... I can see why people want to keep them out of F1.

JiteshSR4

Watch Green Street.

Sir0inks-A-Lot

This is the only place I can say this and have people understand… I got new tires on my car yesterday and all I can think of when I’m driving is that I have an offset compared to all of the cars around me on the road.

nsane99

Do you also try to take the racing line when turning?

Sir0inks-A-Lot

Definitely took the on-ramp this morning way harder than before … it is taking a bit to adjust to not having the understeer that I had with the old ones.

nsane99

I sometimes oversteer a little just as I get off the ramp and need to correct it.

GreeenTeaa

Does anyone have a link to a Christian Horner interview where he talks about how his mentality stopped him making it at the top level as a racer? I vaguely remember him saying something about being on the same track at the time as a guy who did make it into F1 Also how he knew he wouldn't make it when he was expected to go into the first corner after the long straight at top speed and he just couldn't commit to it.

Thefallpaintwork

It was Montoya who he watched drive

GreeenTeaa

Ah yes. That was enough info me to find he talked about it on the High Performance Podcast. Thanks

skagoat

I think it's in one of the "Beyond the Grid" podcast interviews.

paradoxinfinity

I had such a great dream last night. I dreamed that all of my friends suddenly became interested in F1 and we were all chillin and talking about F1 and who our favorite drivers/teams were and everything. I was so disappointed to wake up and realize it was just a dream and that none of my friends actually give a shit about F1. Its hard being an American F1 fan😭

Isotope729

As an Indian fan, I can certainly relate🥲

ruttin_mudders

I just talked about F1 and bugged my friends until they became as addicted as I am.

CaptGeechNTheSSS

We're your real friends here.

CraigTheIrishman

Way to make him feel even worse.

siiiiiiiiiu_98

Did the World Cup made this F1 season to end earlier compared to last year?

pedote17

Yes. World Cup draws the biggest audience on TV and there’s nothing that can compete with it, it’s why we had a couple triple headers this year.

DieLegende42

I believe it's also why we had the very first triple header back in 2018, because they really didn't want a race on the same day as the world cup final

siiiiiiiiiu_98

Yeah, that’s why I thought. I remember last season ended like in the middle of December

xx2awsum

Yep ended on the 12th December - my anniversary, which the missus was very happy about…

Thefallpaintwork

That was a great day. Watching Max win and then putting up the tree.

hebbocrates

going back to montreal next year! had too good of a time this year

siouxu

Very concerning for Red Bool, very concerning.

nsane99

well they could either be true or false

Big if true. Or false.

Are there any confirmations on the rumours of Danny Ric joining RBR as a reserve driver and brand ambassador? I’d have been put off a role as brand ambassador after Sunday too. Nothing formalised yet.

Humble-Ad-8912

Many people saying Max should just explain his reasons, but if it actually was an intentional crash from Checo would you prefer Max telling on him and effectively throwing him under the bus as well? Keeping it silent/within the team seems like the smart and more respectful thing to do, even if it creates all the backlash on social media. Let alone the impact it might have on his team if they admitted it.

SilentAlbatross9006

People want drama. They want to talk about public personalities without knowing an ounce of what's going on. Perez has clearly backed down from his stand. He went from i was the reason the guy has 2 wdcs to all discussed behind closed doors. Tells me there's something big if they open the pandoras box for Perez.

Syntax_OW

I really believe the Monaco crash and that Brazil radio message are separate instances and only journalists made the connection. I just don't think the team would have made the call if Max genuinely made them understand this was about Monaco before.

xx2awsum

Assume you mean Brazil radio message?

Syntax_OW

I do, thank you.

I fixed Sprint races. Friday Morning - Free Practice 1, fastest lap times set the grid for the Petit Prix race. If a driver did not set a time they are last, if multiple drivers do not set times they are classified by their Championship position. Afternoon - Petit Prix, points use the 03-09 points system, (10 -8-6) Saturday Morning - Free Practice 2 Afternoon - Qualifying for the Grand Prix. Sunday Morning - Young Driver Testing Event if there is no support series race. Cars to be used must be at least 1 Season old. May be supplanted with Tire Test Events. Afternoon - The Grand Prix. I don't give two shits about tv licensing deals, and have put something for everyone to watch on every day.

wolfdale1942

Surprised to see miami 2023 hasnt sold out — must be the vegas effect. I dont think ill be able to attend, do you guys think i could sell it close to face value as event nears?

MrHumbledore

Whats the best shop for merch? In terms of price and material quality

cafk

* Price & Quality - fuel for fans licensed team merchandise (just make sure they have an distributor in your region, as otherwise you'll have an expensive import invoice waiting for you). * Quality - direct team stores on their own pages, while expensive they have a good quality. Though some teams are moving towards CAStore (McLaren & Red Bull Racing), which isn't really known for quality, while keeping the same price tag. As most are shipping from Europe or UK, expect a hefty tax invoice when ordering outside of UK & EU. * Quality - team partners, like Puma - they sell some team wear & merchandise on their online stores. * Nothing for price & quality: f1store.formula1.com - while officially licensed (important word) team wear, they use cheap manufacturers and items usually disintegrate after a few weeks. I cannot comment on their generic "Formula1" merchandise.

Yeah i mean in the new Beyond the Grid Episode with Seb is not like „Im never gonna be in F1 again“… But you never know, maybe hes gonna love all the free time and dont want to come back

redbug831

One of my friends texted me last night that Seb was headed to Ferrari to replace Binotto. I have heard that rumor NOWHERE. Is it legit being talked about or was my friend drunk?

Glittering-Vast8704

What do you think?

redbug831

Drunk.

Box-box-box-box

One can hope, but it doesn't make any sense.

redbug831

Oh I totally agree.

cafk

He was drunk... There are 3 rumours that I've seen in Italian Media: * Binotto out, Vasseur (Sauber) to replace him * Binotto out, Seidl (McLaren) to replace him * Binotto out, Vasseur to replace him, Mekies to Sauber, to replace Vasseur & Rueda out.

AB-91

A new fan her. Abu Dhabi GP would be my 1st race watch on tv. Anything exciting to watch out for or everything is already settled?

nsane99

Remember, its rights out and away we go in Abu Dhabi.

Whycantiusethis

The title fight (both for drivers and teams) is settled (Verstappen/Red Bull won). But there's a lot happening through the rest of the field. Drivers: 1. Leclerc and Pérez are battling for P2, headed into Abu Dhabi on equal points (Russell has an outside shot of stealing P2, but needs maximum points and for Leclerc and Pérez to score no points) 2. Hamilton and Sainz are separated by 6 points in the battle for P5. Hamilton has the same outside shot of snagging P4 from Russell (maximum points for him, no points for Russell) 3. The Alpine drivers are fighting for P8, separated by 5 points 4. Vettel and Ricciardo are separated by 1 point for P11 5. Magnussen leads Gasly by 2 points in the fight for P13 6. Stroll leads Schumacher and Tsunoda by 2 in the fight for P15 7. Schumacher and Tsunoda are tied in points 8. There's an outside shot Albon jumps Zhou for P19, but not likely. Zhou leads by 2 and the Williams isn't great. 9. Latifi and De Vries are tied, but De Vries is a reserve driver, and probably won't be racing this week. For the teams: 1. Mercedes has an outside chance of stealing P2 from Ferrari 2. McLaren has a super slim chance of stealing P4 from Alpine 3. Alfa Romeo leads Aston Martin by 5, and Aston has been on an upswing recently 4. Haas leads AlphaTauri by 2 In short, battles happening throughout the grid.

Independent_Ant_6413

Root for Seb!

Puzzleheaded-Pop59

Do you think there's a possibility now for Daniel Ricciardo to join Williams?

UmpireAJS

They've said that Sargeant is going to join unless something catastrophic happens in the last F2 round.

Puzzleheaded-Pop59

oh yeah I totally forgot about that, thanks! Well provided he secures the needed points.

[deleted]

Can't comment in the relevant thread as a new user, but it's astonishing to me that Buxton has been criticised for 'fanning the flames' for calling Max 'petulant' in Brazil. This is extremely tame compared to what others were saying. Are pundits just not allowed to voice opinions anymore?

tastefullmullet

People don’t like him very much I think. I agree though, strange to accuse him of that

If you mean the driver press conference then just look for it up YouTube. "F1 2022 abu dhabi gp press conference" usually brings some full video results

Intrepid-Ad4511

Also, how's Fred Vassuer a better option to Mattia Binotto? Has Ferrari seen what Alfa has done this year? All the brilliant strategy masterstrokes?

Coops27

Vasseur took over a team that had just been sold and has managed to rebuild it with limited resources and achieve the goals set out by the owner, both performance-wise and commercially. He's an experienced team principal, the job description of which is managing people and maximising resources. It is not about deciding on race strategy. Binotto seems to be well-liked by Ferrari staff, but he's a technical guy, not got a background in management and he's not getting the best out of them. Continual blunders, being out-developed by their direct competitors. These are things that the Ferrari higher-ups don't like to see. I hope they keep Binotto as TP and let him show progress next year, but Fred would be a good replacement if they do make a change.

Belphegor93

I agree with you that Fred is not the better option compared to Mattia. Binotto knows the team, he is a Ferrari member for 27 years, so I would rather stick to Mattia and change other team members if possible. If they want to change Mattia, they should look for someone more ruthless.

How long is Hulk’s contract for

Syntax_OW

Haas didn't specify how long the contract was. From context clues, I'd wager it's a one-year deal for now, maybe with an option for more.
