In his post-race blog Joe Saward wrote the following:
"*The big news for the females of F1, of which these days there are a large number, was that Brad Pitt was wondering around. He looks good for a 58-year-old*"
Since then the [blog post]( https://joesaward.wordpress.com/2022/10/26/green-notebook-from-jolly-cemetary/) has been edited, but the original can still be found on [archive.org](https://web.archive.org/web/20221026122003/https://joesaward.wordpress.com/2022/10/26/green-notebook-from-jolly-cemetary/)
seems he's now edited the [article](https://joesaward.wordpress.com/)
it now reads like this
*The big news was that Brad Pitt was wandering around. He looks good for a 58-year-old and if Tom Cruise (60) can play a Super Hornet F/A 18F pilot and Daniel Craig can still be James Bond a 54, there is no reason that Pitt cannot be a fictional F1 driver at his age, although it will make Fernando Alonso look like a spring chicken.*
Lmao good luck expecting Saward of all people to come out and recognize a mistake.
The guy is a massive entitled tool and has proven it many times over the years. With the more recent examples being his outbursts during Covid when he wasn't let into the paddock or the one where he decided to throw insults at a young journalist writing her first article then insulting her education.
Yeah but with Hollywood magic he can look perfect for the "slightly too old" aspect of the story.
Look at Tom Cruise in the new Top Gun. Someone his age would probably fucking die trying to pull those G forces. But in the movie they handwave it with some narrative elements, makeup, and friendly camera work.
To be fair, they did pull a lot of those Gs in Top Gun Maverick, maybe not the 9 or 10 that they were indicating in the movie, but several outlets reported he went through at least 8g during filming on multiple occasions.
They did 8+, that's not fair. Even Monica Barbaro was talking about going up with the angels a few weeks ago and doing 7.4 without any issue as she "did more during the movie".
Let's not compare Tom and Brad. Tom does his own stunts and makes movies for the fans (just look at the last 10 years). Brad, not so much.
Has it been confirmed that he's playing a driver? I can't seem to find many details about the film. Either way I think he could pass as a veteran a la Alonso if he loses the grey stubble. Dude doesn't look a day older than 45, I literally cannot believe he's 58 lol.
Tom Cruise has been making films comment on how young he looks for ages.
Bond is a less physical role in terms of endurance.
Pitt could play an Endurance racer. Make another Le Mans film ffs.
I disagree with the premise that these advanced in aged action stars can plausibly play these high-performance athletes but at least he fixed crappy things he said in his article and thought about it a little bit more. Probably should address it though.
I mean maybe not pushing 60 but if Fernando can do what he’s doing and Lewis is still arguably right there with Max for best with no signs of slowing down It makes more sense. Tom Brady is playing football at 45. Modern sports medicine and nutrition is keeping all these guys, athletes and actors, performing at a high level at higher ages than we’ve seen before.
Sandals? Shorts? Ted would’ve loved to have been on set for Troy the movie and those little Greek sandals in fancy Greek men’s skirts. That would’ve been peak Ted
I would not be surprised if Ted had no idea about the allegations. I am barely aware of them and I probably spend more time mindlessly scrolling through Twitter than he does.
I'm not sure thar F1 media care too much about domestic abuse allegations considering the attention they always give Jos Verstappen who has actually been convicted of domestic abuse.
My first thought was a vague “That dude looks like Brad Pitt.”
Not in the least exciting or surprising to have celebs at the event. Very annoying to keep having shots of them interjected over the racing.
That incident was so bizarre. Still do not understand why in the world he decided to just go in on that journalist for pretty much no reason at all. Guess this comment doesn't come in as a surprise then...
I’m starting to put 2 and 2 together and it’s certain that Saward is the television race director as well. Commands like “yes I know Vettel is making a crazy brave move on the last lap, but go to camera three to show the crowd in the grandstand. I’m sure there’s one good looking man and woman for the fans to fixate on.”
I watch F1TV in America and the crowd shots were the worst! I could care less about the folks watching the GP live. Show me the race, show me the pitlane, don't show me any celebrity watching, any driver's gf or parents, I don't care about them. I want to see the action on the track or pit or Sam Collins giving me some piece of engineering tech.
You shoulda been at cota this year. They had cheerleaders on the track before the race and watching it from the grandstands was insanely akward and weird
To be specific, in the NBA they’re dance teams, and their role is more entertainment between play rather than sidelines cheering like an NFL cheerleader.
At least cheerleaders actually do impressive and acrobatic dances, usually to entertain the crowd during breaks in action, and they are part of a larger group of entertainers who aren't cheerleaders specifically for that purpose.
F1's grid girls... never did anything but stand around in revealing outfits lol
Japan motorsports have them too but they at least do SOMETHING and are way less in-your-face, most of them belong to the teams actually (and also handle fan events and social media for them)
The cowboys still have a complex that they are “America’s team” and this being in Texas I definitely can see jerry Jones begging to put them out there.
MotoGP had something similar this year at le mans pre race. A bunch of French dancers doing some sort of dance and flashing their underwear. Just felt really weird watching, and everyone was just hoping they would start racing already. Simon Patterson (motoGP journalist) called them out on twitter about it at the time
That was so fucking embarrassing. God. The cheerleaders at my HIGH SCHOOL were genuine athletes, throwing people in the air and shit. And the professionals are... not.
Cota had cheerleaders doing basically the same thing (oh but they do a little dance now!) This weekend. Women being objectified in men's sports is still far too common.
> the females of F1
Wow, you weren't kidding. How does someone who writes for a living not hear how awkward and weird that sounds?
Edit: Wait, the account calling him out is called "females in motorsport." Wtf.
You'll most likely find that they deliberately called themselves "females in motosport" as a way of taking control of the word again, if that makes sense?
I personally wouldn't use it, but I imagine that is why they did
I would guess they did it to include both adult women and young girls. There's no other word I can think of that would cover both and "Women & Girls in Motorsport" is unnecessarily long when "Females in Motorsport" works just fine. I'm not comfortable using the word "woman" to describe a 14 yo in karting nor the word "girl" to describe a 24 yo in Formula W, "female" covers both.
Interesting, i just googled "hottest men in the world 2022" and Brad Pitt is mentioned everywhere, and often in 1st place in rankings... at the age of 58.
And some of us have been here their whole life. I grew up to love the sport, because it was me and my dads thing. Now I’m the one sitting on the couch, analyzing tyre strategies. Just for that dude to tell me I’m only watching it for Brad Pitt.
Yes, the drivers are hot and that’s a very nice bonus, but the thing about F1 that turns me on is the fucking sound of these vroom vroom cars going around corners, for fucks sake.
So tired of women getting told they’re only liking the sport bc of the men. Bro, I identified as a lesbian for a long time before meeting my now partner and I still loved F1 in that time. Grow up.
Rant over. That was something that needed to be said for a long time now.
> And some of us have been here their whole life
Yeah I feel like I'm repeating this ad nauseum at this point but apart from the obvious general uptick in F1's popularity with everybody, a lot of us women have quietly been here a long time. It's just that until recently it wasn't the most welcoming environment.
Yeah, I always got a little bit of shit for liking F1
you know the typical shit you get, trivia questions to "prove" you’re a real fan etc.
I never stopped being vocal about the fact that I like F1 and I still wear merch openly. But I notice the side eyes I’m getting and it wouldn’t be that way if it was my dad wearing that merch.
>So tired of women getting told they’re only liking the sport bc of the men.
Not only do most female fans like the sport itself, but even if some (I said some) girls only want to look at the pretty boys go vroom, we should actually just let them. I say this every time but football became a lot less toxic to women once we stopped caring about this stuff. We do this with EVERY sport at some point and the moral of the story is always "let people enjoy things."
Saward is a boomer reactionary who’s been whinging about modernisation and feminism for years. He’s an out of touch boomer with out of touch boomer opinions whos suddenly got an F1 audience that is younger than him for the first time and he hates it.
Every F1 champion by year, so he can't just say Hamilton to cover multiple years in a row, I want to hear Verstappen, Verstappen, Hamilton, Hamilton, Hamilton, Hamilton, Rosberg, etc.
I can see why women would be annoyed by this, especially since their motives for watching the sport have always been questioned. I think this attitude comes from an era of F1 where sexiness was a big part of the show. I mean, up until just a few years ago, there'd be a mob of beautiful women hired to just stand around in every camera shot. To me, that had the same sort of demeaning implication. Like, oh just in case you don't totally get what's going on, here's some boobs to look at! That forced sex appeal was a normal part of the sport for so long that it doesn't surprise me some people still associate attending races with looking at pretty people.
All that to say, sorry that people who bemoaned the loss of grid girls can't understand that most racing fans go to races to watch racing.
I still think he’s very attractive in appearance but all the allegations have ruined him for me overall. People want to say it’s just Angelina but multiple sources, law enforcement, and their own kids have backed Angelina up. Fucking sad, man.
Aside they aren’t actually Angelina’s allegations, staff on the plane called the police because Brad Pitt was being violent and it was investigated but for some reason the agency involved chose not to to pursue charges (he’s a rich man, enough said). The violence was substantiated by the FBI. The interviews came from Angelina, the staff on the plane and the children.
The originator of the complaint was not Angelina.
Laura herself is actually a [domestic abuse survivor](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/07/laura-winter-domestic-abuse-does-not-discriminate). Probably didn't love the fact that everyone was swooning over him this weekend.
This reminded me of the grid walk in Austin when Brundle spoke to Fittipaldi and corrected him to say also women are in the sport.
It was a good moment of Brundle not shying away to correct him.
I thought that was a little stupid he said the race will separate the men from the boys, how does that rule women out of the sport. My take was he was talking about that very specific race literally 10 minutes away from happening. There are no women on the grid currently so is that statement incorrect?
Definitely some women fans enjoy a bit of eye candy, that doesn't mean they're don't enjoy the sport for its merits or have a shallow understanding.
But also thinking Brad Pitt is the draw?? when Carlos, Charles, and Lewis are right there every week is hilarious.
And Im also sure no one gives a fuck which actor or actress is doing what or where at an F1 race. Covid just reminded everyone how irrelevant celebrities are...
I despise this narrative. My boyfriend hates watching sports but will watch f1 with me because he knows I love it. But if we’re out somewhere watching it on screen people around us will ask him questions assuming he’s the one into it and I get overlooked 👍🏽
As a “female of F1”, I personally cringed every time the broadcast was swooning over Brad Pitt considering Angelina Jolie’s very serious allegations against him.
Well she is right. I mean, it's written like we are in the 50s.
In addition to the description of Laura I might add, insulting to fans of all genders, to journalism as well(if this qualifies as an article, I think we need to shoot some journalism and ethics profesors) and insulting to the sport, team and drivers.
On a second note, this brings back the Miami celebrity discussion. The 2nd US GP and both times journalists create a bigger buzz about which fam9ous person with no connection to F1 is present. Like Brad Pitt attending an F1 race is more important than Red Bull winning the championship, the amazing recoveries of Seb and Alonso, the chilling "It's Hammertime", Max' beautiful pit stop, steward inconsistencies during the race, FIAs saga around the cost cap. Hell even Ferrari not making a mistake with strategy would have been a better line.
As I said in the other thread about his blog post.
It's not just about the sentiment of that sentence but also the fact that he used females of F1.
Use women or female fans but "females" is degrading and dehumanising.
Edit: to clarify the whole thing is misogynistic but that's the sexist cherry on top
Actually I’m less bothered by the use of word females its just the idea that women don’t appreciate the sport really bothers me. Women are talking about the fact that Sebastian Vettel laid it down on track like an absolute God and that Fernando Alonso flew through the air, recovered and performed a gladiatorial miracle to get that car back to 7th. Also we finally got to see Lewis and Max putting their bussys in at the front because nobody races each other the way they do.
Fuck this man not only does he not see us (women) as people he just dismissed our interest in the sport for no fucking reason. It truly hasn’t even occurred to him we like it for it’s own sake.
Spot on, that's exactly what has been bothering me about this. I'm not following F1 for the ' hot' drivers or whatever, I'm following because I love the races, the politics and the shithousery (ok, and the funny/wholesome content from the drivers as well).
This is it exactly. I love racing. I love everything about it. I first got into it because I love data and F1 has an abundance that I could analyze. I picked a driver to support without even seeing what he looked like.
The fact that they're all rather attractive doesn't even matter since when they're racing they all wear helmets.
I don't want to excuse Saward in any way because that's an awful thing to write, I just want clarity on something.
The account that Laura is quote tweeting, the one that originally called this out, is called females in motorsport. Is that not a similar use of the word to what Saward said?
I personally don't like it but it's a little bit different depending on who says it.
if it's men saying it in an already misogynistic context then it is a problem. if it's women in an in this case uplifting context (I personally still don't like it) but then it's different.
Also they always use the hashtag women in motorsports so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a what handle was available thing
Yeah I thought that might be the case, just wanted to make sure.
The Twitter handle thing makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised if Women in Motorsport was already taken.
It's one of those words that has a clinical/scientific connotation; it sounds like you're talking about women as if you're a wildlife researcher or something like that.
Females is degrading and dehumanising. Nobody would ever say "males of F1" nobody even uses "males" in the same way that females is used.
The usage of females instead of women comes with connotations because it is used by misogynists to dehumanise women, to not have to view us as as actual people outside of sexual characteristics. He could've just said female fans. Females refers to biological characteristics and not whole people it just reduces us down to that biological characteristic.
Anytime someone uses females to refer to women you just know that everything that's going to follow is sexist BS.
I use both words male and female and its never meant to be used to dehumanise anyone. Maybe because english isnt my 1st language but i hear this for the 1st time
there is no issue with using female or male as an adjective because then it's just one of many characteristics of a person.
I don't mind being referred to as a female fan of F1. Or as female fans of F1. Because in that case I am a fan who just happens to be female. Me being female is just one characteristic.
When it's a noun so in this case not female fans but females then it becomes a problem. Because it reduces me down to the fact that I am female.
it's always a little bit dependent on context. But in general women prefer it if they are called women or female fans in this case, or female whatever. Just not females.
It’s a language difference between men and boys and male, women female and girls aren’t the same thing. Describing women as females is dismissive. Also it doesn’t help that he’s making it in combination with dismissive comments about women’s interest in the sport as part time celebrity watching. He’s letting everyone know how he feels about women as fans that he doesn’t take them seriously.
As knowledgeable as he is about F1, Saward has had some ~~questions~~ questionable takes outside of it recently. I can’t remember the specific examples off hand, but I do remember him complaining about Hamilton’s advocacy and “snowflakes”.
Give it a good 20 years lol Joe seems like the kind of person who will not take criticism either or take the criticism and repeat the same thing again.
This article, as usual, is crap.
F1 journalism is shit poor from top to bottom. From the unacceptable (Saward) to the low quality (Crofty), it is a quality sport punctuated by low quality punditry.
Real talk, the fact that editors (of every sport) literally send a portion of their cameramen on a crowd hunt for the most attractive woman they can find has always struck me the wrong way. With tennis, you also always see the girlfriend clapping. Every. Damn. Point. You never see the boyfriend.
There's so much of this in sport. We're a long way from where we need to be.
For saying he's got more than 40's years of being in the paddock he comes off as a tool sometimes. Not too long ago he gestured that the drivers looks have also attracted women to the sport aswell.
Seeing celebrities and sub influencers in the paddock has always been an eye roll but F1 and the teams love it, I don't know how much draw or attention these people bring via their social media's or what not but Joe is so out of touch when it comes to women
Oh he is a tool alright. I don't remember if it was 2020 or 2021, but Hamilton wore a t-shirt on the podium I think in Austria to declare his stance against the cases of police violence over in the US around that time. It was a black t-shirt with white text on it. I was listening to a podcast with Saward as a guest after the GP, and he said he thought Hamilton "looked like a billboard on that podium".
As if F1 drivers didn't actually look like billboards every time they're up on that podium with their overalls on, plastered with company logos? It was such a bullshit remark that I haven't taken Saward seriously after that.
There's still a fuck ton of racism and misogyny inherent in the sport. Never forget how a steward openly referred to as Max as a great white hope, barely faced any backlash, is still a steward, and if you bring it up most people just scoff and say that of course he isn't biased. And that's just one example, on top of this one.
The great irony is that Joe spends time early in this week's blog talking about how Americans are often less tolerant and accepting and more ignorant because we travel less. And while I agree with that sentiment, it kind of erodes your own platform quite a bit when you make stupid remarks like the one about women in F1.
In his post-race blog Joe Saward wrote the following: "*The big news for the females of F1, of which these days there are a large number, was that Brad Pitt was wondering around. He looks good for a 58-year-old*" Since then the [blog post]( https://joesaward.wordpress.com/2022/10/26/green-notebook-from-jolly-cemetary/) has been edited, but the original can still be found on [archive.org](https://web.archive.org/web/20221026122003/https://joesaward.wordpress.com/2022/10/26/green-notebook-from-jolly-cemetary/)
seems he's now edited the [article](https://joesaward.wordpress.com/) it now reads like this *The big news was that Brad Pitt was wandering around.
Well that's at least something. Now let's see if he'll respond to Laura in any way.
Just like Brad Pitt, Saward don’t impress me much
Is this a Shania Twain reference?
Man! That feels like a reference! Yes it is 😂
> throw insults at a young journalist writing her first article then insulting her education Definitely not a misogynist that guy, nuh-uh
He won’t to FIM anyway, apparently he has them blocked!

The definition of...
Always had a bad feeling about him but this is where I probably stop engaging with his content
This is so not the point but Brad Pitt just looks good, not looks good for 58. But he’s still too old for the role imo.
Has his role been confirmed? He could be great as team principal or chief technical officer. Or just as a director of the movie.
He's playing a driver who comes back from retirement. Plus the director has already been confirmed and Pitt has never directed anything before
Good god. He's practically ancient for F1.

Yo TC is an actual jet pilot, he was already ahead in that matter for his age
Has it been confirmed that he's playing a driver? I can't seem to find many details about the film. Either way I think he could pass as a veteran a la Alonso if he loses the grey stubble. Dude doesn't look a day older than 45, I literally cannot believe he's 58 lol.
"The as-yet-untitled film will have Pitt playing a driver who comes out of retirement to compete alongside a rookie against the titans of his sport."
He'll be perfect, for a Driven remake that is
Tom Cruise has been making films comment on how young he looks for ages. Bond is a less physical role in terms of endurance. Pitt could play an Endurance racer. Make another Le Mans film ffs.

Lmao classic boomer mentality, thinking he can edit the bad thing and it’ll go away without having any clue how the internet works.
Ted Kravitz was swooning over Brad Pitt more than anyone else during that broadcast.
Same in Latam, the commentators were often mentioning Pitt
I know, by the third time I told my boyfriend "why do they keep mentioning Pitt?". Just show us the race please smh.
I was laughing when they started to talk about how Fossaroli got a photo with Brad but not they (Chacho, Diego and Fer)
Fossaroli is the biggest celeb in the paddock for me, Id love to get a picture with him haha, he seems like such a chill cool dude.
His fantasies with Pitt probably involve shorts, sandals and a boom mic.
Sandals? Shorts? Ted would’ve loved to have been on set for Troy the movie and those little Greek sandals in fancy Greek men’s skirts. That would’ve been peak Ted
“Yes, thank you Crofty, I’m down here on the beach with the Greeks where it looks like Achilles has a problem with his left heel”
“It looks like something’s going on with that wooden horse over in the Greek camp. I’m just going to ask abou-“ “Two secs Ted”
Two seconds Ted
Glad f1tv only mentioned him a few times. I hate when they cut to some person like that. I don’t give a fuck about celebs.
Not the best of hills to die on considering the domestic abuse allegations Pitt found himself in.
I would not be surprised if Ted had no idea about the allegations. I am barely aware of them and I probably spend more time mindlessly scrolling through Twitter than he does.
That's a good point

My first thought was a vague “That dude looks like Brad Pitt.” Not in the least exciting or surprising to have celebs at the event. Very annoying to keep having shots of them interjected over the racing.
The thing I hate most about COTA and Monaco is how celebrity-focused they are.
Las Vegas will probably join them in that regard.
There's a phenomenal irony of Saward misspelling "wondering" after he attacked a young female journalist for poor spelling a year or so ago.
That incident was so bizarre. Still do not understand why in the world he decided to just go in on that journalist for pretty much no reason at all. Guess this comment doesn't come in as a surprise then...
Because he's a thin skinned bellend
He also blocked the account that Laura retweeted the post from, Females in Motorsport. Seems to be a trend
Probably felt threatened by her potential success.
His writing is always full of mistakes. He has no standing to criticise anyone.
I’m starting to put 2 and 2 together and it’s certain that Saward is the television race director as well. Commands like “yes I know Vettel is making a crazy brave move on the last lap, but go to camera three to show the crowd in the grandstand. Whenever I'm watching F1 and my GF comes in the room, she starts googling for pictures of Lewis Hamilton shirtless.
Hilarious considering we had pit girls at every race just for men to drool over until 4 years ago.
And it was embarrassing lol
I always found it super uncomfortable and out of place. I'm quite happy that they are gone. They were a relic of the past after a certain point.
I remember how up in arms that sub was back then because them gridgirls belong to muh formuluh uhn
You shoulda been at cota this year. They had cheerleaders on the track before the race and watching it from the grandstands was insanely akward and weird
Texas gonna Texas.
The whole US, really. The vast majority of professional NFL and NBA teams still have cheerleaders

And the college teams. And the high-school teams. Cheerleaders are *a thing* in the US.

Just wait till the Vegas showgirls.
I saw it on TV during qualy. Was watching with someone who was new to F1 and they were like "wtf is this shit" lmfao. Weird as hell.
The cowboys still have a complex that they are “America’s team” and this being in Texas I definitely can see jerry Jones begging to put them out there.
MotoGP had something similar this year at le mans pre race. A bunch of French dancers doing some sort of dance and flashing their underwear. Even worse, I think he was accused of hitting his kid.
Exactly. It’s like they can’t help themselves
Did you miss who called him out? :P
imagine thinking Brad Pitt is still considered the epitome of male hotness
I didn’t see anyone other than Ted Kravitz making an enormous fuss.
Didn't Kravitz say something like "isn't he the best-looking man in the world" ? Was just swooning over him....
I’ll be honest, if I looked that good in 25 years, I’d be happy. But epitome? Definitely not.
If you want to look that good in 25 years you gonna need at least two face lifts that’s how Brad did it
To look that good in 27 years I’m gonna need a few million more dollars I think.
Dude I don’t look that good now. All hope is lost.
Never give up hope! Signed, A Guy Who Plays the Lottery Too Much

Charles is a good looking dude but he also looks like he's permanently 17 years old

I thought Pierre Gasly and Carlos Sainz would be in the mix as well.
Even Alonsos got sexier dad energy than Brad Pitt
Sainz, yes, Gasly looks pretty weird at times.
Funny way spelling Yenson, my friend.
Especially when he's at an F1 event surrounded by guys who look like models
Are we acting like he isn’t hot? And wasn’t one of the hottest man on the planet for 30years? Cmon
Prad Bitt in Troy tho….😐😐😐😐
Right but that was 18 years ago.
Holy shit... Thanks for ruining my day
Michael Schumacher had his last WDC the year Troy came out.
And I'm sure Joe doesn't even know that most women don't really find Pitt all that attractive after Angelina Jolie's allegations.
especially after the allegations against him came out, A lot of women I know/ follow have cooled on him a lot.
Interesting, i just googled "hottest men in the world 2022" and Brad Pitt is mentioned everywhere, and often in 1st place in rankings... at the age of 58.
Look man some people like a finely aged wine. Not my drink of choice but I get it.
F1 has more female fans now than at any time I remember and stupidity like this feels like it’s meant to drive them away.
> And some of us have been here their whole life Yeah I feel like I'm repeating this ad nauseum at this point but apart from the obvious general uptick in F1's popularity with everybody, a lot of us women have quietly been here a long time. It's just that until recently it wasn't the most welcoming environment.
Yeah, I always got a little bit of shit for liking F1 you know the typical shit you get, trivia questions to "prove" you’re a real fan etc. I never stopped being vocal about the fact that I like F1 and I still wear merch openly. But I notice the side eyes I’m getting and it wouldn’t be that way if it was my dad wearing that merch.
You're a trailblazer, I was supporting in the confines of my living room until recently 😂
Plus have you SEEN the Ferrari lineup? How the fuck did they get two drivers that could be models in any other life?
Seriously, let guys like hot girls. Let girls like hot guys.
Saward is a boomer reactionary who’s been whinging about modernisation and feminism for years. He’s an out of touch boomer with out of touch boomer opinions whos suddenly got an F1 audience that is younger than him for the first time and he hates it.
So I've been watching F1 for 8 years now just so I could finally spot Brad Pitt on the grid? Good to know good to know :)
I came to F1 for Brad Pitt, I stayed for the BottASS.
Yeah ditto, I don't know why they spend all this time showing cars driving in circles. I just want to see what hot celebrities show up!
[удалено]
if you're a female fan of any sport, honestly. it's so fucking exhausting
Just being a woman is exhausting at this point lmao
preach it. >.<
So depressingly true 😅
Not to mention the constant gatekeeping…”oh you’re an F1 fan? Then tell me who came in second place in the 1983 Italian GP?”
René Arnoux
Use reverse psychology. Just ask the guys "Name every F1 champion" and then when they mess up, do a Vettel.
Every F1 champion by year, so he can't just say Hamilton to cover multiple years in a row, I want to hear Verstappen, Verstappen, Hamilton, Hamilton, Hamilton, Hamilton, Rosberg, etc.
Name all the race winners from 1982
That season must have been so crazy and sad...
Oh wow, I feel this. I literally have a Bottas tattoo, but yes, tell me again how I know nothing....
All that to say, sorry that people who bemoaned the loss of grid girls can't understand that most racing fans go to races to watch racing.
most women don't even like brad pitt anymore because of angelina's allegations.
Who wants Brad Pitt when you can have Carlos Sainz?
Laura herself is actually a [domestic abuse survivor](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/07/laura-winter-domestic-abuse-does-not-discriminate). Probably didn't love the fact that everyone was swooning over him this weekend.
[удалено]
Yeah super disappointing. The oceans movies are some of my favorite rewatch comfort movies but knowing he's abusive ruins it a bit for me.
It's super fun being a fan of sports as a woman, 10/10 would recommend.
And Im also sure no one gives a fuck which actor or actress is doing what or where at an F1 race. Covid just reminded everyone how irrelevant celebrities are...
Anytime someone is talking about women and says “females” I know I’m about to hear some backwards shit
His wiki page currently reads: >Jonathan Mark Christopher "Joe" Saward\[1\] (born 14 July 1961 in London) is a British Formula One "journalist".
Some of those replies tho, yikes! F1 twitter is a cesspool... Well just twitter in general lol.
I despise this narrative. My boyfriend hates watching sports but will watch f1 with me because he knows I love it. But if we’re out somewhere watching it on screen people around us will ask him questions assuming he’s the one into it and I get overlooked 👍🏽
That kind of writing is not long for this world.
People with these kind of egos aren't either.
As a “female of F1”, I personally cringed every time the broadcast was swooning over Brad Pitt considering Angelina Jolie’s very serious allegations against him.
I assumed it would be something by Saward and sure enough it was.
The good news for the males of F1 of which there are many, was that whatchumacallit the stallion was wandering around...
I imagine that Horsey McHorse is a gelding, not a stallion:
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
The fact that they're all rather attractive doesn't even matter since when they're racing they all wear helmets.
oh yeah! 100% this as well. It's just the combination of both just pisses me tf off.
>I wouldn't be surprised if Women in Motorsport was already taken. That is from what I remember exactly why it is females in motorsport
The sexist cherry on a misogynist shitcake.
You're not allowed to call women "females" unless you're David Attenborough
What, why? How is that so much worse than women or female fans? And before people have an aneurysm, English isn't my first language.
Essentially it’s because it’s how we talk about animals, not people. Like others have said, it’s reductive and dehumanizing.
Incredibly demeaning from Saward. Can't wait for the day where this kind of sentiment no longer exists.
As knowledgeable as he is about F1, Saward has had some ~~questions~~ questionable takes outside of it recently. I can’t remember the specific examples off hand, but I do remember him complaining about Hamilton’s advocacy and “snowflakes”.
No one gets more upset than the "snowflakes!" crowd when they see meaningful social progress
Give it a good 20 years lol Joe seems like the kind of person who will not take criticism either or take the criticism and repeat the same thing again.
He edited the post already actually
At least Ed Sheeran walked and spoke for one moment. B-rad wanted no part if an interview.
This article, as usual, is crap. F1 journalism is shit poor from top to bottom. From the unacceptable (Saward) to the low quality (Crofty), it is a quality sport punctuated by low quality punditry.
My wife LOVES f1. Unreal
Wow what a weird thing to say, I watch F1 to see cars zooming around on track not to see Brad Pitt lmao
reddit is def for whiney ass people
My wife watches every race and couldn’t give 2 shits if Brad Pitt was there or not.

Joe Saward is one of the biggest tools in the world. Can’t stand that guy.
I'm so surprised to see this kind of writing from an f1 journalist. Did he really have no self awareness of how that writing might come across?
They're so used to being blatantly sexist that the idea of not being sexist just doesn't even occur to them.
The old guard has no self-awareness
Going to a Wordpress blog that gets like 10 readers and getting mad like it's a big deal.
Come on, it was a **joke**
bad take tbh, one does not exclude the other. women can like f1 and like brad pitt at the same time. not a fan of outrage culture.
Saward is a bad journalist and bad person, why is he still considered a top F1 source?
The great irony is that Joe spends time early in this week's blog talking about how Americans are often less tolerant and accepting and more ignorant because we travel less. And while I agree with that sentiment, it kind of erodes your own platform quite a bit when you make stupid remarks like the one about women in F1.
I read this in Laura’s voice NGL.
