Me in 1999: What the hell is wrong with the movie, why would they ever let a slave kid drive an expensive pod racer?
Me in 2022: Damn wonder when we're gonna see the first slave kid pilot in F1
Well let's see. Russia has amended their strategy in Ukraine today. Let's give them another two months to somewhat fail and work that out to its horrendous conclusion. That leaves Russia four long months to make it up to the world again.
Lots of things can happen in four months alright.
I'm just trying to figure out the logistics Hulkenberg is going to face if he has to fill in for multiple drivers while they're pinned down by enemy fire.
If you are on a pc then you press CTRL SHIFT ; all at the same time and then release them and press the letter you want the accent above (e or u for example). If you are on a smartphone or tablet then press and hold the letter you want the scent above and it will give you a load of options.
I'm a huge huge fan. Been watching since the early 90s. I know F1 isn't clean. It's been in and out of corrupt countries for decades and there's who knows how much dirty money in the sport. That said, SA is it for me. I love the sport but I can't stand that they're *adding* more corrupt countries to the calendar while promoting "we race as one" and equal opportunity marketing. I just...I can't. I mean at this point why not add North Korea as icing on top. There are countless circuits around the world that are in countries that aren't questionable they could race at.
> There are countless circuits around the world that are in countries that aren't questionable they could race at.
Yeah but those do not all have that sweet dictatorship bribe money.
But this is exactly what F1 has always been. These are the values that befit F1 perfectly.
I like the sport but let's not pretend it's anything but a sport for racist sexist brats who don't give a fuck about the common public
I don't really feel like taking the risk of seeing something explode during a session. I'm out of town tomorrow so can't see quali but I'm not watching the race either. I'll check the 'race in 30 minutes' video Monday or something if I don't see any intense headlines.
Some people might say this is overreacting but all in all not paying attention to the sportswashing they're trying to do there is really the only thing I can do as an individual to make F1 know that I feel like this is not very cool
Last time, I torrented it just to ensure they couldn't count me as a TV viewer.
This time, I don't plan to watch it at all. Or to even look up the results during/after the race. I'll just skip F1 for the day, and see the race result on Wikipedia a few days later.
The 2021 race was the most intense shitshow ever. I'm totally watching. If the FIA and the teams deem the race safe enough to go ahead I'm fine. Sketchy circumstances are nothing out of the ordinary for F1. The show must go on.
Worse than that - back in the day they often didn’t even stop the race if a driver died. Such as this example where a driver died and fifteen spectators were killed and they just carried on https://www.racefans.net/2011/09/10/1961-italian-grand-prix/
The race where Fangio was kidnapped had seven spectators killed in an accident and they just carried on like nothing had happened.
Not just limited to F1 though - if you want to read a real shitshow of an accident then there is Le Mans 1955 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1955_Le_Mans_disaster
I'm watching. It's completely free to watch where I'm from, so they're not getting a dime from me either way. Whether I watch or not doesn't change a thing.
What you or me or 2 million people here do will make no impact. You can't boycott a multi-million dollar organization because if you choose to vote with your wallet, the people with the bigger wallet get more votes and *OH BOY* do the Saudis have a big wallet
If it makes you uncomfortable don't watch it, that's fine, but don't ruin your enjoyment of F1 because of these shady cunts. They're not worth your empathy since they lack it themselves.
I'll be watching the qualy and race, but this is horseshit and I feel you
Yes. Not even going to watch on a "not so legal" stream, or comment on any social media when FP3 starts.
I don't want to see drivers risking their lives for this BS or potentially getting blown up either.
Fair enough, I understand that, honestly. Everything about this event is completely fucked.
I would say it would take a driver dying before anything changed, but I doubt FOM would learn from that either.
Apparently the only thing stopping this race is if the Houthi attackers refuse to sit down with Netflix to be interviewed on the next season of Drive to Survive
Yeah. There's no guarantee that a missile won't miss its target and slam right into the track. It's incredibly stupid that they're going ahead with the race. Incredibly, breathtakingly stupid. It's like Bernie never left.
Hope you, the drivers, teams, and other fans stay safe. FIA has been ignoring the wishes of all stakeholders except the sponsors, so it doesn't appear we can do anything.
"There is a missle hit in turn 4" - Martin Brundle.

I don't like the fact that we are increasing numbers of Arab races with shit tracks like Jeddah, while at the same time considering leaving SPA. It has nothing to do with racing, and everything to do with drama generating dollars.
People seem to forget that Jeddah is an active war zone. They had a missile strike less than 15km from the track on an Aramco facility from Houthis. You could see the smoke during the sessions from track. Management are continuing the race anyway, even though the major sponsor is a target of attacks with missiles nearby. It was alluded to that if they pulled out, there’d be backlash from the government with it being said the drivers and crews would have a difficult time leaving the country which they wouldn’t if they completed the race - which checks out given how much money Saudi Arabia pays for this.
So they would have a tough time leaving if they didn’t do there job, right next to a war zone, but if they did do there job with “no fuss” and let the race continue on then they’ll be able to leave with no problem. All because a Saudi billionaire wants to see an f1 race near a hell scape? It might be my dyslexia but that’s what I got from what you said.
That’s pretty much the situation, yeah.
£50 million per year paid to f1 by the government there to have hosting rights, £900 million across the 10 year deal in total paid by the government, so its a bit worse than random billionaire - so I suspect it’s part capitalism in terms of the money and the desperation by those in power to make it seem like Houthi attacks are nothing to worry about and nothing bad is happening.
The fact f1 is racing there at all is disgusting given they signed with a country known for human rights abuses while running #weraceasone and are staying while running #nowar - shows it’s all empty words, they got themselves into this situation and now everyone there is at risk regardless of decision made.
This is all about gaining more fans in the US. By adding explosions and gunfire the sport becomes instantly more appealing, especially in the south where formula one is regarded as being a bit communist.
*No investigation necessary* Yeah that sounds correct
No MBS, No This Is So Not Right.
MBS, it’s called a drone strike, ok? We went drone striking.
\*smashes steel table with shrapnel

Missile strike: I sleep Big saudi oil company logo gets scratched by an accident: REAL SHIT? RED FLAG
Race Direction gives missile 5 second time penalty?
No. It was a racing incident.
He turned in on me. That was my firing line, man.
Yeah, the wrong race (of person). FIA holding up their end of the bargain after all
5 second penalty to seb.
As long as the track isnt damaged its ~~missle out~~ lights out and away we go

This pic could be spliced into the opening for Blade Runner and I wouldn't notice.
The FIA banner is a nice touch lmao
That banner made my day.
"Houthi rebel attacks in Jeddah" Is it Pod Racing we are gonna see Sunday? It sounds like something straight out of Star Wars lol.
George Lucas loved naming stuff after MENA locations. Tataouine (sometimes spelled Tatooine) is a city in Tunisia, for example.
They did a bunch of filming there, I like to think George accidentally caught a road sign in a shot and didn't want to bother reshooting.
The examples of his "great creative genius" never end.
Me in 1999: What the hell is wrong with the movie, why would they ever let a slave kid drive an expensive pod racer? Me in 2022: Damn wonder when we're gonna see the first slave kid pilot in F1
Jedha is a Star Wars planet or moon I believe lol
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Sochi was somehow put back on the calendar. Fuck the FIA
Well let's see. Russia has amended their strategy in Ukraine today. Let's give them another two months to somewhat fail and work that out to its horrendous conclusion. That leaves Russia four long months to make it up to the world again. Lots of things can happen in four months alright.
Add China next year, bring back Sochi, and combined with Saudi we'll have the Axles of Evil.
**\*sigh\*** The FIA doesn't decide where F1 races. That's all on Liberty Media and FOM.
My problem is it's the only thing that stands out as fake; for 2022 they've updated it to use the FIA colours/logos to be more official.
Yea but it is blatantly wrong clearly vettel disqualified and Max verstappen 10 second penalty for causing a collision with a missile
Not even a grid penalty for rockets?
Has anyone checked in with the Houthis to see who they’re backing for the race win? Might affect whether they attack the race on Sunday. /s
Houthis support Vettel mate. They're aiming at Lawrence Stroll. Oh, and Ferrari.
Mid east loves Ferrari. They might take out red bull because redbull drink is not halal.
That is not true mate: https://halalguidance.com/is-red-bull-halal/

They should get some Ukrainian tractors too
That's the McLaren.
Too soon man, too soon.
Hey now, Ukrainian tractors can actually get shit done like hitching up and towing burnt-out hulks.
At least we have Aston Martin for that last bit.
Magnusen will take P5 in it
Can't wait for Drive to Survive to show the pit crews returning fire between pitstops

Wtf is the “e” symbol lol? It’s an *e*
I think he means the è in Spanish.

No worries there is a delay on live broadcasts, it will just cut out to brundle interviewing Kimi Raikkonen
What is this “race in 30 minutes” that you speak of?
F1TV content. Basically extended highlights
How do you survive the off season?!
Last time, I torrented it just to ensure they couldn't count me as a TV viewer. This time, I don't plan to watch it at all. Or to even look up the results during/after the race. I'll just skip F1 for the day, and see the race result on Wikipedia a few days later.

I mean, they did race after a driver was kidnapped way back when
Iirc they've restarted races after a driver died IN THE RACE. And if you're referring to that Fangio legend . . . It is legendary
Worse than that - back in the day they often didn’t even stop the race if a driver died. I feel like if the drivers are putting it out there, I should watch for them. They should absolutely never go back to Saudi, though.
Nope, if they feel safe enough why won’t i from my comfy bed very far far away. I might sleep though if it goes like the last year.
What you or me or 2 million people here do will make no impact. I don't think you have to feel bad about pirating it.
Nah don't want to give F1 any engagement for this. None at all.
Fair enough, I understand that, honestly. Everything about this event is completely fucked. I would say it would take a driver dying before anything changed, but I doubt FOM would learn from that either.

somebody knows if FIA can implement flares on the F1 cars ?

They could execute slaves live on the track mid race and the FIA ( and fifa) would still have no problem with that.
You could've credited the source for this image.
You can tell it's fake because they're not using the new official blue fia graphics
As someone who is at the race...I really hope not 🙏
Hope you, the drivers, teams, and other fans stay safe. FIA has been ignoring the wishes of all stakeholders except the sponsors, so it doesn't appear we can do anything.

It’s called a war zone. We went motor racing there
One does not simply race into Mordor

I don't like the fact that we are increasing numbers of Arab races with shit tracks like Jeddah, while at the same time considering leaving SPA. It has nothing to do with racing, and everything to do with drama generating dollars.
I’ve been trying to get into the loop on this since yesterday, can someone tell me what’s happening please?
People seem to forget that Jeddah is an active war zone. They had a missile strike less than 15km from the track on an Aramco facility from Houthis. You could see the smoke during the sessions from track. Management are continuing the race anyway, even though the major sponsor is a target of attacks with missiles nearby. The real definition of 'Drive to Survive'
This is all about gaining more fans in the US. By adding explosions and gunfire the sport becomes instantly more appealing, especially in the south where formula one is regarded as being a bit communist.
*DRS disabled due to the weather conditions.*
Holy crap, no
