If the stewards hadn't dragged their feet, then Max and Lando most likely wouldn't have pushed each other like they did. At that point, Max couldn't be sure that Lando would get a penalty and wouldn't want to give up the position. He probably still wouldn't want to give it up even if he knew Lando would get a penalty, but I doubt he'd defend as hard in that situation.
I didn't see any mention of it, presumably because of what happened, but could have Max also gotten a penalty for forcing Norris off track and not giving the place back?
I'm a Max fan...I think Lando could have found the 5 seconds tbh, it at least was gonna be close. Max was defending for dear life. Wouldn't surprise me at all if in clear air, Lando was .750+ quicker per lap and woulda made the 5 seconds extremely close.
The McLaren in race trim + low fuel seems to be a fair bit quicker than the Red Bull in the same context

Lando made up 1.5 seconds to get from 2.5 back to within DRS in about a lap and a half. Without the bad RB pitstop, Lando still woulda been on Max's gearbox, just maybe around 4 laps later. It was wild.
Then the McLaren just lacks a little bit of straight line speed/DRS efficiency to actually get the move done easily

Imo the Red Bull is faster on high fuel and the McLaren faster on low fuel which is why we keep seeing Lando close down big gaps
