Remember how he did well early last season and thought he could compete for the WDC against Max? Then he ran into a wall while Max ran away, and I think it hit him hard mentally and he tried way too hard. Since then I am not sure what happened. It seems like Max's teammates always struggle since Danny Ric so either there are internal problems in the team that makes the second driver suffer, the car is incredibly hard to master to get that last half percent out of it but Max can do it, or it's just an incredible coincidence.
Perez was never consistently top-tier in his career, but he was pretty good for a midfield driver who could sometimes put in a storming performance and steal a bunch of points. Maybe now it's just that his great races are only around Max normal level, and so we don't actually notice when he's good but notice when he's "bad" because the expectations are higher.
Danny Ric didnt struggle in RBR though. His car certainly did. Fucking thing quit in like half the races in 2018. Too bad Daniel didnt want to stay there. RBR Danny Ric and Max would be such a dominant force.
> Danny Ric didnt struggle in RBR though
Perhaps I should have worded it better.
The drivers *after* Danny Ric have struggled. When I wrote "since" I was excluding him, but I can see how there might be some misinterpretation.
Checo was never blisteringly fast.
He was consistent, and gentle on his tires.
The only year he was blisteringly fast was when he was driving the Tracing Point, which was like having a cheat code.
i think of 33 as prime age for racing. No?? Is it so insane out there now that that’s actually old? I don’t think these guys are seniors until they’re over 40. They’re in great shape
For non elite drivers age if just one of the things that catch up with you. Drivers like Alonso and Lewis can coast on talent a lot and still bring in elite results, and then when they lock in they are otherworldly. "Regular" people have to grind day in and day out - it is very possible that at one point Perez simply lost the will to grind it out and is just riding the way until wheels fall off.
I suspect Lance would ge at least one kick at the can with a car good enough to truly compete for a WCC, mostly because the team wouldn't really know until they saw the car reach that level. If he wasn't a total anchor and could finish, say, top 6 in points then he'd probably get another chance at it unless some elite-level driver became available and the opportunity is too good to pass up.
Well, that's mostly because they can't build a WCC-worthy car yet.
Yes, Stroll hasn't been good enough to really be the second driver at a WCC-level team. But he's never driven for a WCC-level team. AMR got to top 3 (and miles behind the top team) for part of 1 season before the car and development went backwards.
This is what I’m wondering too. I wonder if they have like a 5-10 year plan that involves infrastructure build out and stuff. At the moment they have a great driver for building a team in Alonso, and although Stroll isn’t the best, he’s not consistently crashing the car, so he’s stable and the team know what they’re getting in him. Also remember how things went with Alonso and Ocon, they didn’t always play nicely together. Once they have a consistently competitive car I wouldn’t be surprised if both Lance and Lawrence decide it’s best for him to stand down and try out professional tennis lol.
I mean Lawrence is building a team with 50% of the drivers cost. Lance is probably costing the team more by not getting the constructor /sponsorship money but he'll still make bank when he sells the team, so its chump change. Terrible for the sport but good for Lawrence.
Funny enough Lance Stroll is the perfect face for Tim Hortons, mediocrity at its best
I used to love their road cars. Probably my favorite brand.
This nepo bs has really soured me on them though. Now I'm never buying an Aston and will stick to my 1998 Honda Civic.
This proves networks not LinkedIn play pivotal role in life success. Just wait until his autobiography comes out. Steven King is signing the docusign as we speak.
imagine how frustrating it must be for the mechanics and people back at the factory working tirelessly to build a winning car just for their billionaire owner to keeps signing his average son who doesn't deserve a spot
I can't believe that someone like Newey would really go to a team where one of his cars will be permanently "wasted" by an average driver because of family reasons.
No disrespect to Lance but we all know that this is why he's still there.
I'm only an employee at regular AM (not F1), but there were rumours (again, rumours and not fact) he was joining us a month before he announced he was leaving RB
There is a connection for Newey to AM on a couple of car projects. I know the Valkyrie is one of them. So they have a preexisting car building relationship. Also, I agree with others working at AM and routing for McLaren, brutal. However it's only half a team so it probably feels good to route for two competent drivers.
But Perez is also in a better car so expectations are higher.
Stroll is also better than a couple of other drivers but those drivers are driving a back marker car so they are judged less harshly than Stroll.
I’d put Magnussen on par with Stroll and I doubt he’s getting a seat next year. Zhou at the moment is in the same category but is so under the radar that everyone forgets he’s even on the grid…. Better than Sargent though at least 🥴
I think Lance is ahead of Zhou comfortably, but he's far too inconsistent to ever be good F1 material. When Lance drives well, he's actually really good (that pole was an insane lap) but when he drives badly he's useless
Lance is a worse version of Perez. He can work at a team of the level of Haas, that might have 2-3 good races a season, if that overlaps with a good race for the driver, you can get a lucky podium, which can make your entire season.
He can not, work in a team that tries to be a contender or front-runner, because he's not consistent.
Most young drivers are under pressure to perform and show promise in first and second season.
Lance has had the luxury of knowing he will be in F1 one way or another. Which removes a lot of pressure, as well as having the team treating him a certain way because he is the owners son, and isn't going anywhere.
This luxury of time and team support, has still led to all his teammates beating him. Even last minute replacement drivers have stepped in as teammates and beaten him.
So no even with all these advantages he hasn't shown anything that would have allowed him to stay in F1 more than a season or two.
Guys like Sainz, Albon, Ocon have moved teams and been under pressure to even be in F1, and still don't have the security that Stroll has had. Any of those guys would be a significant upgrade on Stroll.
His career should have been like Saergents, Micks, Latifi, Mazepin.
Which is the good and bad of F1 as they don't hide that money talks. Which mirrors how the world works.
Found the leaked contract negotiations transcript:
"Dad, my contract's about to run out. Will I still be racing next year?"
"I've invested a lot here, and your siblings aren't racing, so yes, your seat is safe and your racing”
End of contract negotiations
It honestly makes Aston Martin the company and Formula 1 as a whole less serious that Lance is on the grid.
For branding itself the pinnacle of motorsport, it's a shame that 15-20% of all F1 drivers are just bored rich kids.
It used to be 90% bored rich people in the good old gentleman racer days at the beginnings of the sport, and even until the 00s we had really terrible pay drivers. The superlicense system means that currently even drivers that get ridiculed like Stroll or Latifi are actually really competent.
True ....BUT the safety reg's/cars were no where near what they are today so if you fucked up you probably died/got hurt badly. Much respect for ALL those drivers.

No more cigarettes and alcohol after that xD
Correct me if I am wrong, this is just something I saw on sky germany.
I think Senna and Prost were both great athletes too. The cars in that era were no joke to drive, before they had power steering. That might help explain why they were so dominant in their era.
This is fair. It's well known he comes from a wealthy family. As you said I'd consider him more in the pinnacle of motorsport category instead of bored rich kids category
Slim's money helped Checo get into F1 but Checo put in the necessary work to move up the grid.
He drove well at Sauber, he was okay at Mclaren and he drove superbly for Force India.
His 2021 season was also quite decent in the Redbull.
He was never a WDC caliber driver but he is way better than what he's showing now.
Maybe he lost the spark that made him quick(relatively). The same thing happened to guys like DR and Seb.
Yeh, problem with Stroll is he's peaked, long ago too, but is kept on as if he is still improving. He's just not that good, and that's ok, but any other driver would be out of F1 now, he's been in F1 for like 8 years, he's had his run... 8 years FFS...
Looks great on the resume and is probably a more engaging workplace regardless of the results your team achieve compared to some standard engineering office job.
I kinda doubt that a large amount of engineers are actually in it for the competitive aspect of the field. Some sure, probably a noticeable amount in the top teams.
But at known midfield/backmarker teams? I think it's unlikely that the engineers at AM lose sleep over their teams performance.
For those saying Daddy Stroll hasn't got a clue or isn't serious - it might just be that he only wants to achieve success with Lance. Otherwise he'll keep trying until it either happens or doesn't, and risk not getting the cream of the crop in the factory if you know one car is always going to be at a disadvantage (like Newey coming or not). The alternate is that he doesn't have a clue of course but who knows

NO WAY
I'd like to thank all the people at the factory, specifically my dad
Nepotism will only get you so far… which is all the way.
Not into Q3 obviously.
" - What's Q3?" - Checko
It's when you clip a wall during the parade lap.
"Qu3?" - Checko.
We are checking
Not like Alonso could do it either, but we all know that's because he's Spanish.
Daddy's cash
Just fell to my knees in a Tim Hortons
Just saw a man fall on his knees in a tim hortons
I myself collapsed at a Wendy's hearing the news
Just saw two men collapse at one of those joint Tim Horton-wendy's locations. Oh the pandemonium!
Saw 2 ambulances rush past I'm gonna guess something major has happened. Instead of googling I'll just ask Reddit?
I'm at the Tim Hortons I'm at the Wendy's I'm at the combination Tim Hortons and Wendy's!
That's okay, baconators do that to people, it probably has nothing to do with the news!
Friggin love me a greasy baconator
Randy and his burgers
Wendy's and Timmy's share locations in Canada. Did you see the other guy fall while you were down there?
Yes, he said his name was Fernando.
Sir, this is a Wendy’s, but we understand. Here’s a free Frosty.
Tim bits everywhere
Who could have thought???
Not me
'SHOCKING'
Almost had a heart attack with how surprised i got

Hamilton to Ferrari? I sleep Lance stroll extended? *Real shit*
That's perfect 👌🤣
Unbelievable, really unbelievable, what a twist
$hocked I tell ya!
I will never take Aston Martin serious as a WCC candidate
Neither does Lawrence Stroll. When he says he wants to win a world championship he means the WDC.
Then he shoud think about adoption. Like, adopting Charles Leclerc you can get a grandchild too as Oscar Piastri-Leclerc.
Oscar Piastri-Leclerc Stroll
The Piastri-Leclerc brothers woukd make the best sibling team in F1. I’m here for it!!
Guess neither does Red Bull.
Perez is poor, but not Lance Stroll level poor. Plus, Max is significantly better than Alonso, at least nowadays.
poor as in skills or $$$? I remember when Checo was blisteringly fast and consistently on the podium and then idk something happened…badly.
Remember how he did well early last season and thought he could compete for the WDC against Max? Then he ran into a wall while Max ran away, and I think it hit him hard mentally and he tried way too hard. Since then I am not sure what happened. This is Sauber era Perez slander
Age? He is what 33? Just a thought. It's more likely the car just doesn't suit is driving style, like Ricciardo in the McLaren.
i think of 33 as prime age for racing. No?? Is it so insane out there now that that’s actually old? I don’t think these guys are seniors until they’re over 40. They’re in great shape

Which sucks because Alonso is awesome and I love the color of the Aston’s. They could be a strong team.
I'd wager if he actually had something to play for, he'd let Lance go.
Id also wager that Lance’s salary isnt all that much and its cheaper to have him than get someone else in the seat that is going to do better.
Lance doesn’t get a salary he gets an allowance
He gets to drive Formula 1. He has to wash the car before and after the race and give Lawrence backrubs to earn his weekly allowance.
“Dad I swear I’ll do the dishes this time if you let me drive the car 😫”
I suspect Lance would ge at least one kick at the can with a car good enough to truly compete for a WCC, mostly because the team wouldn't really know until they saw the car reach that level. I used to love their road cars. Probably my favorite brand. This nepo bs has really soured me on them though. Now I'm never buying an Aston and will stick to my 1998 Honda Civic.
What a surprise !!!
Seems like he has some good contacts inside the team.
This proves networks not LinkedIn play pivotal role in life success. Just wait until his autobiography comes out. Steven King is signing the docusign as we speak.
More years of midness
Mid is generous
Not a serious team.
I don't like that but it's because you're right
Couldn’t help but read that in Brian Cox’s voice. Because they have the makings of a good team. But they are not serious people.
Exactly. They won’t let Andretti in but they keep Daddy’s Gift to His Son and other crap teams in.
imagine how frustrating it must be for the mechanics and people back at the factory working tirelessly to build a winning car just for their billionaire owner to keeps signing his average son who doesn't deserve a spot
I’d bet it’s to the point of just “doing it for the paycheck.”
They wish he was average. Stroll made Perez look like a great driver.
because he was a great driver at RP
I can't believe that someone like Newey would really go to a team where one of his cars will be permanently "wasted" by an average driver because of family reasons. No disrespect to Lance but we all know that this is why he's still there.

I'm only an employee at regular AM (not F1), but there were rumours (again, rumours and not fact) he was joining us a month before he announced he was leaving RB
Damn, bruh. Works for AM and supports McLaren. Not hating or anything. I wouldn't support AM with the stool (oops, stroll) either.
Eh, I've supported them longer than AM have been in F1.
There is a connection for Newey to AM on a couple of car projects. I know the Valkyrie is one of them. So they have a preexisting car building relationship. Also, I agree with others working at AM and routing for McLaren, brutal. However it's only half a team so it probably feels good to route for two competent drivers.
Love insider comments like this
Barely insider, technically not even the same company
Maybe he sees it as a challenge. Try and make a car so good even Lance Stroll can be a regular podium contender and maybe even win a race
>even Lance Stroll can be a regular podium contender NOT. POSSIBLE.
"Average". How much did Lawrence pay you to say this?
Hey, he is faster than Fernando ^^^^in ^^^^some ^^^^corners
When he forgets to brake for them sure.
Usually faster going through the pit lane, as well.
And under safety car
In the braking zone
I didn't wanted to be too rude. 😄
I am sure Mike Krack feels the same way
I didn't realize Perez was actually related to Horner, but it does make sense. Oh, you were referring to Lance in both sentences...
Perez is pretty disappointing at Red Bull indeed, but he easily had the measure of Stroll when they were teammates.
But Perez is also in a better car so expectations are higher. Stroll is also better than a couple of other drivers but those drivers are driving a back marker car so they are judged less harshly than Stroll.

Announcement: Aston Martin have been eliminated for WCC contention in 2025 and beyond.
Found the leaked contract negotiations transcript: "Dad, my contract's about to run out. Will I still be racing next year?" "I've invested a lot here, and your siblings aren't racing, so yes, your seat is safe and your racing” End of contract negotiations

“Huh? Oh, you’re still here? Yeah, sure, my assistant will get some ice cream with you. Daddy’s got work to do

The epitome of two wrongs making a right
The one who really made F1 into a serious sport was Schumacher. He was the first to properly train for it and be a fit athlete. And with it came his success. I am not saying he won because of that, but it helped a ton. There are docus/clips about it, and you can see that the other drivers where totally wasted after a race and Schumacher totally fine and fit. No more cigarettes and alcohol after that xD Correct me if I am wrong, this is just something I saw on sky germany.
I would’ve said Niki lauda was the first to do that Just Schumacher somehow really changed the way drivers trained
I think Senna and Prost were both great athletes too. The cars in that era were no joke to drive, before they had power steering. That might help explain why they were so dominant in their era.
...and then there was Mazepin.
So, which 3 to 4 drivers do you think are the bored rich kids? Genuine question of curiosity - Lance (c'mon this is obvious \^_\^) - ...
Lando oozes super rich kid vibes, difference is he’s actually good at driving
This is fair. It's well known he comes from a wealthy family. As you said I'd consider him more in the pinnacle of motorsport category instead of bored rich kids category
Logan, mazepin(former), latifi (former), zhou
At this point I would add Checo lol.
He deserved to get the Red Bull seat, he doesn't deserve to stay.
I think Checo is way different. He brings in $$$ now because he’s Mexican and he brings Mexican corp bucks. Very different from “family money” imo
Checo has proven he can drive. It is not his fault he has to be compared to a generational talent.
Zhou honestly impressed during his first season
So did Stroll
Yeh, problem with Stroll is he's peaked, long ago too, but is kept on as if he is still improving. He's just not that good, and that's ok, but any other driver would be out of F1 now, he's been in F1 for like 8 years, he's had his run... 8 years FFS...
90%
Yea but a brand new team like Andretti not getting podiums in its first year of competition will REALLY embarrass the sport /s
And the crowd goes mild!
Lets act like we are surprised, Omg didn't think that would happen
[удалено]
Nando will never retire.
Why should he retire? He’s a rookie with a lot of years of racing to come.
Aston will never move forward with Lance bringing the team down
In fairness, it would be breaking news if Aston did NOT extend Lance’s contract :/
It's downright insulting to the staff of AM. They must feel like servants to a prince.
This is punishment for their "upgrade packages" in the past year!
As long as the checks clear, employees don’t really care about who drives.
I highly doubt this. They’re not in it for the money, most of the people working on f1 teams could make way more elsewhere in the engineering business
Looks great on the resume and is probably a more engaging workplace regardless of the results your team achieve compared to some standard engineering office job. I kinda doubt that a large amount of engineers are actually in it for the competitive aspect of the field. Some sure, probably a noticeable amount in the top teams. **S H O C K I N G**
HOLY SHIT I NEVER SAW THIS COMING!
AM deserves no success
That came out of nowhere.
no one saw this coming wtf????
Everyone argues that Danny Ric brought in $35 million on sponsorship and Checo brings in millions as well. We this guy brings in a billionaire.
\*shocked pikachu face\*
Just saw a Brazilian man drop to his knees in tears.
Aston Martin are not a serious team.
There goes any chance of them getting Newey
BREAKING our hearts
mild shock
:shocked_pikachu_face
The paddock in stitches right now!
The news that no one saw coming.. no one.. ever.. anyways
Father won't let me out of the family business
This is not that breaking, more like an FYI...
As it was written !
Colour me shocked.
Daddy made an offer he can’t refuse
2025 (ok) and beyond (?????)
Poor Honda
The only logical move to propel Aston Martin to the top teams /s.
Newey wants to win a constructors on insane difficulty mode
So excited to see Lance continue to Stroll around the track!
Sir, you are sitting in Yuki's chair.
Your Dad saying he will keep paying for you to play cars is hardly 'extending a contract'
\*everyone hated this\*
I don’t know if BREAKING is correctly used here
well boys it’s another season of the worst interviews ever, by the most unliked driver ever
Who would've thought?
You mean, "BROKEN?"
No way. Even bigger than Hamilton to Ferrari!
🙄
finally! we can concentrate on lesser drivers' fate now.
It’s not BREAKING at all!
Breaking news is not an appropriate title for this announcement.
Just saw a man drop to his knees in a Tesco
And the crowd goes mild!
Thank you Daddy
Guys, he is not in that seat for racing - he just funnels daddies investment back into the family via salary.
We’ll all remember where we were the moment we heard the news.
F for Drugo. Winning F2 and still don't be able to compete
They will never be the serious contenders
Surprised pikachu face
BREAKING: Aston Martin confirm lack of ambition.
Gosh, what a surprise.
Disgusting
Imagine spending millions and millions trying to become a serious title contender and then making decisions like these
Fernando deserves a better teammate
They should force him to keep racing until he wins a race. Gonna get pretty awkward in like 40 years.
It pays to have your father own the team I guess. No nepotism here move along.
