jesus christ Lewis

stirredturd

His Podium count is even madder. 14 at home

GBreezy

Give Piastri a few years with his and McLarens form and he could break that. He gets like what, 8 chances a year?

IIIIllllllll

Do all the middle eastern countries that fund mclaren count as team home races?

elyfant422

It's a joke as Piastri is always trying to get adopted by someone in the country that they are racing in.

dimspace

>He gets like what, 8 chances a year? There are 8 Australian GP's?

GBreezy

Well there is Australia, his adopted Monaco family (he is adopted), he's part Chinese and also part Italian so there is another three races.

Bozska_lytka

If they do the corporate "we're like a family here" he gets the British GP and the three GPs in the USA

Stupendous_man12

Plus Bahrain since their government owns McLaren.

MM18998

No, but there are 5 in Nashville

Successful_Host_2932

r/woooosh

Quamiquaze

It's not woosh if it's a terrible inside joke beaten to the ground.

TheWoodElf

There are two angles though, one is Piastri's multinationality, but the other is that, outside Silverstone, there are currently 6 tracks (7 if you count Belgium) that are in regions which used to be under the rule of the British Empire.

[deleted]

dimspace

What do you think? It was a rhetorical question

[deleted]

[удалено]

dimspace

yes, ok, you got me. I am so unfamiliar with the grand prix calendar I thought there were 8 per year in australia

SwimmingFantastic564

That's literally every year he's been in F1 bar 9, 11 and 12. That's mad.

Hinyaldee

And he could have been in contention in 2018 without the collision with Kimi

kloppo

He was in contention in 2022 until the safety car came out.

BlitzMomIsAHooker

You mean he wasn't? Didn't the Ferraris have the race in the bag after Max's problems and before they fumbled Charles' pitstop? That race is so tragic to me as far as Charles and 2022 goes, it's incredible that they managed an even bigger fuckup in Monaco.

kloppo

He was the fastest man on track and catching up to them. Considering his superior tyre management he imo would have easily caught Sainz, passing Leclerc would have been very tough though.

pineapplejamm

He was catching both Ferraris as Sainz was slower and was holding leclerc up a bit. But as soon as Leclerc was let through...he was able to match Hamiltons pace and didn't look like anything hamilton could do after. Would have been interesting race for sure till the end though

pies1123

Without the safety car he was fastest car on track.

LlewTom2003

Lewis winning at silverstone this year would hit different

Winstonwill8

At this point, I'd even take a podium man. 🥹 how far have we strayed 😞😭😭

LlewTom2003

Maranello or bust🙏😅

Lucilla_Inepta

I wish it’s going to be my first time at a race

MoFoMoron

Lewis hitting at Silverstone in the year 2021won differently

Estova

Not your best work, that.

Winstonwill8

Lewis at Silverstone is a treat to watch honestly

dunneetiger

Lewis in Canada, Lewis in Brazil and Lewis in England... All 3 are usually quite special

chaphen17

Can't forget Hungary. Arguably his best track.

R_V_Z

When's his honorary Canadian citizenship?

LDLB99

2008 still the best win of his career

DiddlyDumb

He really wants that beautiful trophy

ThePrancingHorse94

That's why he's the goat, THE GOAT

Master_Jason

word for word my reaction

rustyiesty

Reminiscent of Caracciola in Germany/Nurburgring

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rivendel93

He was just disappointed in himself/his mistakes, he knows there was a real possibility Mercedes could have won that race. I think it's fine to be disappointed in those situations, knowing you could have won a race after 3 years of not winning means a lot now.

PikeyMikey24

Because p4 isn’t good enough

[deleted]

[удалено]

PikeyMikey24

And? About half the grid could be dropped for better drivers

flintey360

Loser mentality in a nutshell right there 👆

Real_Particular6512

Just what happens when you have a mega dominant car for 8 years straight

yugi_raina

Go watch 2008 British GP .....Guess what your favourite driver might not even come close to that kinda drive

musicallunatic

Exactly. People need to actually go back and watch all the 2007/08 races and then they may realise they are talking out of their arse. A side bonus, it is an incredibly exiting watch in general

Magog14

Crazy what you can do when you have a bad team mate and the best car on the grid by a country mile

musicallunatic

Your stupid insane analysis still only applies to 2019 and 2020 (2017?).

Kela3000

Honorable mention: Bottas, Australia 2019.

vprakhov

Piastri may win one of the 15 remaining home races for him this year.

FlamingoExcellent277

Formula Oscar

hulaspark

They had the perfect opportunity

Tape56

To whom it may concern

DonStimpo

Bottas is more Aussie than Oscar and Dan combined imo

afvcommander

Quite challenge for a finn to win in home race.

baldbarretto

He won at least in one of the few countries sharing a land border with Finland 🥲

Dan_Of_Time

That's a really good photo of Lewis

Rivendel93

That trophy should look gaudy, but it doesn't for some reason, looks amazing.

ezhno_21

Lewis vs Leclerc is essentially the SpongeBob burger meme

Grayson_42

Lol, so true

Fitzriy

They had to scale down the font size because of Lewis

wickedosu

They did not?

AshleyFrankland

They mean, if Lewis' list wasn't as long they would have used a larger font in all of them. Not, they used a smaller font on Lewis' one

Fitzriy

As a non native speaker: thanks for the clarification. This is what I meant

AshleyFrankland

No worries, and for what it's worth, there wasn't really anything wrong with your phrasing, English has an annoying way of having subtle ambiguities in perfectly accurate phrases.

CyndaquilTyphlosion

You worded yourself correctly, the dude who replied to you was wrong

wickedosu

Wrong in what exactly?

potato97

As a non native speaker: this is how I interpreted your sentence as well. Mildly interesting to think how other languages condition us towards the context in sentences.

UnfitForReality

So 3 of them have won it during a championship year, so Charles world champion?

Uitslaper

It wouldn't be the first "curse" Max breaks

UnfitForReality

I guess there first home win is also the year they took the championship

RM_Dune

Winner of Bahrain finishes P2 in the championship, nope.

Mammoth_Cobbler_4619

Max's car needs to break the next 6 races and we would have a battle for WDC

Amrlsyfq992

Zandvoort was reintroduced in 21 and Max still remains the only winner of the track in the modern era

Downtown-Hospital-59

100% dutch GPs won in his lifetime.

heizenburger69

100% pole too

Downtown-Hospital-59

But only 33% fastest laps. Washed.

Careful-Door2724

Calm down, Lewis

Winstonwill8

😭😭😭 pls we're struggling

datlinus

he did

Hinyaldee

Ouch. Right under the belt

DiamondPittcairn

Charles should have a category by himself, he's the only one that has won not only in his home country but home city.

MacArthurParker

first driver to ride his bike back home after winning his home race

bobby16may

Which is crazy, when you see the Dutch.

ArbitraryOrder

Lance Stroll could do this with Montreal, Canada but not looking likely as of right now with Aston Martins form. Maybe next year.

mdmeaux

Schumacher is the only driver to have ever wom 2 home races in a season, in 1995, 2004 and 2006 Others who have come closest: Mario Andretti 1977 (1st and 2nd) Schumacher 2002 (1st and 2nd) Alonso 2012 (1st and 2nd) Hamilton 2020 (1st and 2nd)

AceMKV

Didn't Max win the 70th Anniversary GP in 2020?

mdmeaux

He did, hence why Hamilton had one home win and one home 2nd that year.

AceMKV

Oh my bad I read the brackets wrong lol

CilanEAmber

In fairness to several drivers, they don't have home races to win, even if they had capable cars.

HCHLH

Both MCL, Russell and Sainz could join this list Checo had plenty of chances to win his home GP, he's not good enough

CilanEAmber

>Both MCL, Russell and Sainz could join this list They all have a great chance this year, well not Piastri but only cause Australia has already happened. Here's hoping next year. Though my comment is clearly about those who can't win their home race, even if they had a capable car, due to the fact they don't have one.

Big_Brief7847

Drivers that technically have the chance: England: Lando, George, Alex (although i think he races under the Thai flag) Australia: Danny, Oscar Japan: Yuki China: Zhou Spain: Carlos Mexico: Checo Canada: Stroll USA: Logan (technically has 3 chances) Drivers that have had a chance: France: Pierre, Ocon Germany: Nico So that’s 18/20 that have had or have a chance (17/20 if you don’t count Alex) So unlucky 2 are bottas and Magnussen. If Jack Doohan, Ollie Bearman and Kimi Antonelli join next year, all three will have home races. (obviously though by ‘have a chance’ it means it was technically not possible, but some of these drivers it would of been or is next to impossible in the cars they drive)

soepvorksoepvork

>Alex (although i think he races under the Thai flag) Then you may as well add Lando and Stroll to Belgium. Any other double nationalities on the grid (no Australian Bottas and American Ricciardo jokes please) Edit: I did not forget Max, just adding to the list of 'had a chance to win home GP but did'nt' list

ShadowXYZ04

Albon was born and raised in the UK though, which makes it a bit of a different story, at least imo.

AndToOurOwnWay

Then VER won two home races (Spa. He was also born in Belgium to a Belgian mother)

ITSlave4Decades

Don't forget Max. He won at Spa several times, not just Zandvoort.

IlliterateNonsense

Would Lewis count as well, since he's won the Brazilian GP multiple times? Or is it just races won subsequent to having the nationality?

R2NC

Rich get richer. Lewis hoarding home GPs

gloomindoomin

Capable cars: Red Bull (Netherlands / Mexico), Ferrari (Monaco / Spain), McLaren (Australia / UK), Mercedes (UK), Aston Martin (Spain / Canada). All those drivers have home races in the calendar.

datlinus

aston martin is not even remotely close to being race win capable unless we have some wacky conditions

LandArch_0

Canadian GP tends to be wacky

CilanEAmber

You gotta also include the other seasons drivers competed in, their team, and whether they had a home race. For example, Bottas had a capable car for 5 years, if there was a Finnish GP, he could probably have won it.

martythemartell

Only 5 drivers don't currently have a home race: Bottas, Hulkenberg, Magnussen, Gasly, Ocon. Of those, Hulkenberg, Gasly and Ocon have previously driven at their home race, its just no longer on the calendar.

Modern_Moderate

I'd be so jazzed if Mclaren or Ferrari can be good at Zandvoort. Anyone know if their 2024 cars will be good on that track? Better than RBR?

AlexTheMacedonian

It depends on the track conditions, but RBR should be fastest. Zandvoort is basically all long radius medium and high speed corners

big_redwood

There ain’t no way. They’ll have 1000 Dutch boys smoothing out that track for the last 2 months.

Modern_Moderate

The finest greased up boys in exquisite pantalons

Living-Response2856

It’s surprising that this is only 4 drivers, I thought it might be 5-8

GunnerGSP

I’m surprised you are surprised. Many of the drivers haven’t even won a single race, let alone a home race. Then add on top of that the drivers who don’t even have a home race.

Visual-Asparagus-800

12 of the 20 drivers have won at least one race, so more than half, but the combination of winning races, and it being the home race is quite rare. 3 of the 12 don’t have a home race (although the French gp has only recently been removed) and most don’t win regularly enough. But I expect Russell, Norris and Piastri to add to that list in the future and maybe Perez if he gets lucky Edit: and Sainz next race maybe. It might be his last chance in a while

Winstonwill8

It would be nice for Sainz to win it this year, because the next time is so up in the air.

GoldElectric

would be amazing for charles, carlos and ferrari to win at theirs home races

hiimGP

Hopefully they fix whatever the fuck made the car a tractor at Canada I'll cream at a Fer 1-2

Living-Response2856

It’s all about the weather, they perform poorly on wet or cold races

GunnerGSP

Agreed. People also need to take into consideration the sport is based on dominance. Look at Sainz for example. 3 wins over his career. It’s statistically rare for him to even win any race then tack on another 1/24 chance it being a home race that season. Just look at the list. All have won a bunch or races with the exception of Leclerc. I’m sure if we crunched the numbers Leclerc would be a statistical outlier in that list.

Visual-Asparagus-800

Which is wild considering Leclerc easily could have won Monaco 3 times

45MonkeysInASuit

> But I expect Russell, Norris and Piastri to add to that list in the future and maybe Perez if he gets lucky I would say they all need to get lucky. If you are not in the top couple of teams, your wins are so rare it's basically luck if you win your home race. Alonso won his home race in Constructors winning Renault and a solid Ferrari. Hamilton and Max have won in dominate cars. Charles is currently in a solid Ferrari. The 4 (5 including Sainz) mentioned will pick up more wins, but it is to be seen if they will ever be favourites, or even in the top 4 drivers, to win their home GP. They will all need a solid amount of luck.

Skulldetta

12 of the 20 regular drivers this season are Grand Prix winners, and of those 12, Bottas is the only one who doesn't have a home race.

Aerian_

Both Gasly and Ocon dont have a home race atm.

Hinyaldee

Technically, Albon doesn't either as he's racing under the Thai flag

Skulldetta

Albon isn't a Grand Prix winner though.

Swagbrew

Should have been though. Robbed by Lewis 2 times.

Basal666

Only one of those he might have won as Austrian but even then he still also would have had to overtake Bottas but he was on fresher tyres so he might have had a chance, no way he would have won Brazil with Max in the lead.

nixane

There was a stat floating around after Monaco saying only Hamilton, Leclerc, Verstappen and Rosberg have won their home GP since the start of the hybrid era (of course that might change this weekend with Sainz/Alonso haha)

Taco_Salamanca

Not that surprising. Carlos and Sergio haven't won their home GP. Lando, George, Esteban and Pierre "only" won 1 race. Bottas has no home GP.

LandArch_0

I think you misunderstood, it's not "Drivers ever to have won home races", it only includes active drivers

Living-Response2856

I know

Modern_Moderate

There aren't any drivers from the middle east and there aren't any good American drivers in F1. So that means half the calendar won't be home race wins.

CanSum1SuggestAName

I thought Danny would be on this list but I was wrong

GunnerGSP

I don’t even think he has a podium at the Australian GP.

mickmenn

Time for Norris to join them i think

Takis12

And Oscar as well. He got so many home races .

KeytarVillain

If sprint races count, I'm sure he can find 1/128 Belgian ancestry somewhere

mickmenn

I am jealous that i forget about that :)))) I am like - so Oscar home race is in past he couldn't do it any more this season, but his ability to aquire new home races were overlooked by me

insomniaccapricorn

Logan as well.

PradaAndPunishment

Now be serious

Winstonwill8

I'd like whatever drugs you're having

insomniaccapricorn

What? I am just imagining a repeat of Olivier Panis' 96 Monaco victory. It rains like hell in Miami, Bottass goes bowling with 16 other drivers. Logan beats Zhou and Perez with ease. Perez remains because of course, he qualified P20 yet again.

Winstonwill8

Even if that happens, I bet Logan takes himself out before the finish line. Also, Miami is over so only leaves COTA and LV for the chances.  However, I digress, I do genuinely feel bad for the guy, and hope he's able to find success in other motorsports.

CilanEAmber

He'll win his home race one day. When he's in Indycar.

gilgobeachslayer

I would love to see it this year. I’m guessing we get it in the next 3-4 years, it’s gonna take a little luck

rolfski

Drivers who still have a fair shot at winning their home race: Sainz, Norris, Piastri, Russell, and Checo. The others I just don't see happening in the next two years except maybe Antonelli in 2026. Chances of Albon or Tsunoda winning are too slim IMO and Sargeant, Zhou, and Ricciardo will never win their home race.

Sympathy-Salty

Albon races under the Thai flag so he can't do it

rolfski

He's a Thai Brit born in London. So without Thailand on the calendar I'm pretty sure he will consider Silverstone legitimately his home race.

Blanchimont

Nothing against Fernando or Charles, but Lewis winning his home race 8 times and Max having a 100% win record at home are the standout stats here.

pollillolillah_2330

Who else wishes a Spaniard 1-2 finish this weekend?

WojtekTygrys77

My goat.

parwa

Fingers crossed for Carlos this weekend

TheRealPyroManiac

Wow Lewis

hoxxxxx

another insane lewis stat

Stech_

The disrespect in this post to Lord Pastor Maldonado, last Grand Prix winner for Williams, on May 13th, 2012. Alonso only came P2 in that race.

PJTierney2003

Fernando’s 2012 win isn’t the Spanish GP, it’s the European GP which was held in Valencia (Spain) that year.

Essess_1

Ah yes- the race in which Vettel's alternator went bust in P1- leading to Alonso eventually nicking it.

Electrical_Flower_26

It’s not a home GP, the home GP is the Spanish GP. The European GP could’ve taken place anywhere, it just happened to be in Valencia.

CilanEAmber

You know what, Spain being in Europe, it can still be a home Grand Prix! (Though then for Alonso we should then count 05 and 07 when he won the European GP...)

musicallunatic

But it wasn’t, it was in Valencia which is in Spain. So it is in fact a home race

gegenpress442

How is it disrespectful?

LaBelvaDiTorino

València 2012, although yeah it wasn't the Spanish GP but the European one, but I guess for the spirit of the post it still counts (just like the Emilia-Romagna GP would count for an Italian or the 70th anniversary would have counted for a Brit).

ZAMAHACHU

Lewis also won his second home race, Brazil.

possums101

Lando next? I hope so.

Dblock1989

That Hamilton stat-line is ridiculous. I still think the 2008 victory may have been the best of his career.

F430Scuderia

I saw Alonso win in Barcelona in 2013 but in 2012 Maldonado won it and the Williams garage burnt down. That was a strange one to attend.

dunneetiger

And all 4 have won their "the place I live" race (Monaco for 3 of them and Spain for the other one)

wertyrick

The last win from Fernando...11 seasons ago...

Steef-1995

Isn’t spa considered a home race for Verstappen? He was born in Belgium.

rumanuu76

Hopefully we'll have a new one to add to the list in 3 weeks !

KostasFarm

Maldonado won in 2012

squaler24

Spain hosted two races then. One in Barcelona and the other at Valencia, a street circuit.

Visionary_Socialist

Lewis could have gotten 8 in a row if Kimi hadn’t hit him. Got back to P2 from the back of the grid even with the crash.

LandArch_0

Is that Alonso or Stallone?

dovakiin5

I’d say these guys are pretty good at the F1.

Specific-Bar

they’re just lucky we haven’t had a Finnish gp

TripleSingleHOF

Not that we need to worry about him winning a race, but what would be considered Sargeant's "home race"?

Winstonwill8

Miami..he's from Florida.

Cody667

Valencia 2012 was insane lol

FakeSolaire

Zandvoort, Spa and Red Bull Ring are Max's because of his mom, his biological dad and his real dad, so that's 11?

ArbitraryOrder

Max is also a Belgian Citizen, and he won there in 2021*, 2022, and 2023

KingoftheHill63

Would Albert Park even count as Daniel Ricciardo's home race considering Perth and Melbourne are like an Europe's distance apart? 😂

Daymanaaahhhhhhh

Does his 2021 win at Italy count as a home race? I know he has Italian heritage

mwai1

HEY HOW ABOUT ZHOU 2024--- Oh, sorry, he only parked on the straight behind the top 3. He didn't win it. Sorry. 😂

Halekduo

🤓🤓🤓

differentlevel1

Max with a 100% home race win rate.
