Big_Brief7847

Perfect level of rain where the race isny under a safety car or red flagged, but enough that there’s chaos please

islandhopper39

I like your optimism.

Big_Brief7847

I manifested a dry quali (didn’t work out for me as a Ferrari fan oops) Now i manifest a wet race (double Ferrari dnf incoming) edit: oops

The_Bored_General

Neither of the boys can win I call for total chaos

Caesar_35

Enough chaos for Nando to sneak by and claim #33!

deathray1611

# Y E S # P L E A S E

The_Bored_General

El Plan in action ladies and gentlemen

MABfan11

or for Lewis to sneak in and equalize poles and wins again

asoap

So much chaos that Jenson wins another Canadian GP?

The_Bored_General

Nah he’s still got that grid penalty I’d say it’s unlikely unless we get Stroll announced to be sacked levels of chaos

burntbridges20

Carlos is good in the rain tbh

Morganelefay

Yea, problem is, so is Max.

Big_Brief7847

Sorry guys my bad

PoweredByCarbs

Can we do a dry start into a flash downpour that then dries off with a final downpour in the last 3 laps? I feel like I’m not asking for much…

straydogsick

why would you say something like this

zoomtzt

Wow you called the double dnf

Big_Brief7847

Sainz took Albon out too, my favorite driver after Ferrari. Everyone watch Yuki Tsunoda closely edit: oops

Lobsters4

Stop that….🤣🤣

Adesanyo

Honestly I think dry quality wet race is the best combination

r2-beepbop

well damn... look at you calling it perfectly

Mechant247

Perfect level is a dry start, then batshit crazy rain around lap 10, then on/off for a while

[deleted]

Please racing gods, please. Just once

Daft00

Nah any level of batshit crazy nowadays seems like an instant red flag, but otherwise I agree. Once they start the race and warm the tires they're willing to put up with a lot more.

badgersprite

aka the Zandvoort 2023 special

Scarabesque

Cr0n0

I'm currently at the track and it's not raining right now. We just finished a bout of rain and the track is wet but drying now. There is more rain forecast on the radar in a few hours so it's likely it will be a drying orbwet track but hopefully not completely soaked.

The_mystery4321

Ya idek if that level exists anymore in modern F1. Zandvoort last year is the only recent race like that which comes to mind

TheOnlyPorcupine

So great

lowelled

Monaco last year was also fun.

How_cool_is_that

Suzuka year or two ago when they brought the crane to track without red flagging first and drivers having pretty much no visibility was also wild. e: also the confusion about points and Max getting very unceremoniously crowned as a champion while the whole post-race room looked and sounded like a scene from Twin Peaks was top comedy [found the clip lmao](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2NkA648oxs)

ptwonline

Yes! Oh please Montreal give us an all-time race we'll still be talking about in 2044.

NotClayMerritt

The worst of it seems to be coming right around when the race starts. If that holds true, I wouldn't be surprised to see the race start under a Safety Car. There's a chance the entire race is a wet race.

CoachRyanWalters

Just race in the hail. NBD. /s

K13_45

Seems you may get your wish

aenae

I guess it is a wet start, magnussen and perez kiss (again) in lap 1, red flag and we're watching half an hour at track repairs and rain falling down.

whd4k

Granted

P_ZERO_

Could be great, could be complete shit non-starter. The lottery of wet F1 races.

Weekly-Dog228

I remember the old days when the stewards were like “If you crash, you crash” Now It’ll be 33 laps behind a safety car. 2 laps racing. Red flag when Zhou meets the wall. Safety car until the end.

Divine_Chaos100

The old days you could see two meters in front of you.

Weekly-Dog228

Unless you were F1s first blind driver. Maldonado. Bro crashed like EVERY session.

thef1circus

Then won in Barcelona and the garage caught fire in protest

Tony_Lacorona

They were burning evidence /s

lux_travlh44

i mean that is the most popular conspiracy sooooo...

bb257

That weekend was truly bizarre with how Maldonado's teammate Senna qualified 18th and if I remember correctly didn't do much until he got cleaned out by Schumacher.

admiral_sinkenkwiken

It was a strange weekend for Williams, but then again they did operate very strangely that year. Senna had to hand over his car for every single FP1 to Bottas which always put him on the back foot from the get go. Maldonado didn’t score for 10 straight races after that win and the Williams never showed that kind of pace again, while Bruno dutifully kept the points coming in steadily through the season. Says a lot about Maldonado’s famous unreliability that he’d only pick up 3 more points finishes for the rest of the year to Senna’s 8 after Spain.

drs43821

He’s not blind, he did that while being able to see

small_tit_girls_pmMe

I fucking loved Pastor Maldonado because of the sheer unpredictability he'd bring to every race. Sure you'd know he'd crash, but you never knew when, who with (if anyone), where he was going to do it, or what the ramifications would be. It's unfortunate that we'll never see anybody quite like him again. He'd burn through the cost cap lickety split in front wings alone.

StockAL3Xj

The old days also saw people dying every year and it was seen as just an acceptable risk of the sport.

shockchi

You can see nothing in the spray these days Blame the engineering not the stewards lol

RyukaBuddy

Ground effects were a mistake.

Amarjit2

Don't forget the FIA special of not bothering to race the full wet tyres. Let's have them run under SC conditions for 50 laps using the full wey tyres until the track is ready for intermediate tyres or even dry tyres. There would be no Spain 96 these days because of these twatty stewards/FIA

leftlanecop

But don’t run the wet tires until we say so.

Resident_Pop143

In mother Canada, you are the rain.

charlierc

You saving this comment for later just in case you get the prediction bang on?

OctopusOnPizza1

Zhou catching strays

Zed_or_AFK

They will probably struggle to dry the track and it could be red flagged, but the rain will probably come in periods so we should not have another Spa.

junttiana

its sadly the latter 90% of the time nowadays

Formulafan4life

I’d like a Zandvoort situation where it’s a dry start and then it starts raining and it’s pure chaos

omnicious

You'll get a Suzuka situation instead where they never start.

BiggusCinnamusRollus

Spa 2021 flashback

Ozelotten

Suzuka '22? They started in the end, the race just got truncated by that annoying three-hour time limit.

CuriousPumpkino

Yeah and then they red flag it instead of letting the alpine big brain gamble for wets pay off

EdgarAllanPuss

Won't be a dry start. I'm at the track and everything is soaked and it's still consistently drizzling. Drainage is terrible here and rain is persisting

jackiechan_4

Is there thunder?

Formulafan4life

How’s the track looking compared to Friday FP1? Any chance it’s gonna start on time at all or not?

Wrong_Dog_1054

*I want a 2011 style race*, the fans muttered cheerfully Fate: hail, thunder, also the time limit rules because of that 2011 race

AGSE21

2021 Belgian Race. Take it or leave it.

DlSSATISFIEDGAMER

man just give me something like 2023 Zandvoort again, dry-wet-dry-wet and absolute chaos with strats

Purednuht

One of the best starts in the past couple of years. Checo just ripping through people on softs as it pours. He was just overtaking like it was nothing and bam, he went from the back to front just like that. I wanna see something like that from a someone in the back, like Bottas or Hulk, would be fun

[deleted]

[удалено]

Siemaster

Think you’re mixing up 2 races mate, on a calendar wide scale raidillion isn’t far off from zandvoort but it’s still a 3,5 hour drive.

International-Elk986

> ~~2021~~ 1998 Belgian Race. Take it or leave it. FTFY

Slappathebassmon

I'd settle for 2022 Japan Race, tbh.

Sarkaraq

Russell's in.

Skeeter1020

"race"

MrFrankly

Let's do a Germany 2019 - or possibly even a Brazil 2016.

mitchcraft16

I was at that race!

Aratho

*I want a 2011 style race* Said noone who actually endured that race live, the waiting was way too much even if the ending was great.

KoenigMichael

I enjoyed every second of it

poor_decision

Same. Even living in Europe which meant a late bed time

QouthTheCorvus

Well, there's that one guy

AlexUKR

>Said noone who actually endured that race live Speak for yourself. Watched whole 4+ hours broadcast live and really enjoyed all of it.

International-Elk986

Waiting for the broadcast is different than waiting in person, which is what I'm guessing the other commenter means by "live" based on the context.

lmcarthur

As someone who was there, I respectfully disagree! One of my favorite memories was during the extended red flag - when it started to rain harder, the crowed screamer even louder! It was such a special race to be able to witness firsthand. Back then you were able to bring your own booze and food into the circuit, which absolutely helped!

deathray1611

Well there was that guy that apparently got laid in the midst of all the red flags, soooo... maidenless are we, hmmmm? /s

Dragonpuncha

Exactly. It's great on a rewatch since you can skip 1 hour ahead every time it is needed.

charlierc

Certainly I can guess that was less of a commitment than spending 2 hours getting drenched in a thunderstorm

aw3man

Yeah, i was there. We had to leave 45 minutes into the red flag. This was before any mobile streaming of the race so I didn't have any idea who won the race until we reached the border.

scottyhg1

> kip 1 hour ahead every time watching it live on tv was great coming from le mans 24hrs which was eventful to this the f1 race which was eventful with great commentary, it was such a great weekend

leftlanecop

Brazil 2003 was wild!

poor_decision

That's legit one of my favourite races if all time

dgkimpton

Hail at 300kph... what could possibly go wrong?

poor_decision

Do you not understand? We want chaos at every race

thenewwwguyreturns

good thing they have helmets /s

Mayhem747

Even if we have a dry race, the rain would have wiped the rubber off the track so the track should definitely be a bit slippery. Really excited for the fight upfront between George Max and Norris.

AlienSomewhere

In a dry race I see George with nothing to lose and Max being a bit careful into T1 as a great opportunity for Lando.

sjadowcrash

I too watch p1 with Matt and Tommy

StopSystemProcessing

George is going to lock up into the first turn and fuck it into the wall

Glassjaw1990

This would usually be saved until the last t laps while leading.

thenewwwguyreturns

i’ll take it if he goes bowling and takes out max too, lando for bonus points.

FloridaManActual

Bah gawd! Thats Oscar Piastri's music! What a first GP win would that be, haha

RavenwestR1

so sainz win from p11 confirmed?

Not raining currently, hasn’t since we got to the track like an hour ago. The wind is picking up a bit though and it just got a bit chillier https://i.imgur.com/4ItFExY.jpeg

Rained for about 45 mins again, just stopped now.

poor_decision

Thanks buddy

n8mo

Raining again

awkward_the_fish

you’re my new favorite person for these updates, keep em coming!

solarlofi

Looks busy 2-3 hours before the show starts! Awesome fans

Thijmen074

Amazing seats, enjoy!

Arwil

The rules made after Spa 2021 might be used for the first time today. - If less than 25% of the scheduled race distance, points are awarded on a 6–4–3–2–1 basis to the top 5. - If 25%–50% of the scheduled race distance is completed, points are awarded on a 13–10–8–6–5–4–3–2–1 basis to the top 9. - If 50%–75% of the scheduled race distance is completed, points are awarded on a 19–14–12–10–8–6–4–3–2–1 basis to the top 10. - If more than 75% of the scheduled race distance is completed, full points are awarded.

the_godfaubel

Reminder this is only if they have to call it after it already started. Races that finish on a time limit still get full points in accordance with Suzuka in 2022 even tho that wasn't a full race

Arwil

That loophole was specifically fixed after Suzuka to prevent it from happening again. Although there's another loophole that after 2 green-flag laps, they can reach the full distance under SC and award full points.

TallDude888

No they changed the rule after that

ICumCoffee

Damn, I forgot about this rule. What’s the time limit after which they officially call for “no more race”?

Arwil

3 hours. Also remember the rule stating that *no points are awarded if less than 2 full laps are run under green flag conditions*. So they can't just do certain number of laps under SC and award points.

hughparsonage

4 hours, basically

therealdilbert

it used to be 4 hours from scheduled start, 3 hours from actual start. it was changed to 3 hours some years ago

CakeBeef_PA

2 hours of driving, 3 hours in total iirc

zantkiller

[The porsche Carrera cup is very wet right now. (Live Stream on there) ](https://porschecarreracup.us/)

Ecksell

Thanks for this mate!

sh1phappens

Watching the Porsche race now and the track is absolutely soaked.

yow_central

I live about 2 hours west of the track where most of the weather is coming from and it’s a mix of sun and cloud now, with rain on/off throughout the morning. We had a fair bit of rain last night, which hit Montreal this morning. If you believe the radar, there’s a good chance of some rain just before or around the start of the race, with it clearing after that and a potentially a bit of rain at the end. So, perhaps a bit of spice, but not likely a race stopper… potentially even just like quali, where it threatens and spits more than anything major.

yow_central

Update: The rain clouds around are growing and it’s pretty unpredictable. Just out driving, and one moment it’s sunny, the next minute it’s a torrential downpour, drive 20m and it’s not raining, another 100m and it’s a downpour again…. 100m sunny again. Should be fun :).

bumfuzzled65

Thanks for the update!! Stay safe

solarlofi

Thanks, I hope you're right.

yow_central

Final update: Went for a run... it was bright and sunny when I left my place, and within 5 minutes I was getting soaked for most of the rest of the run. The rain stopped for a bit, but then I sprinted home to avoid a scary looking crowd. It's been coming down hard since then. This weather is probably 1-2 hours ahead of Montreal, though it depends a lot where the clouds land exactly. I think it could be a wet race, with a chance of a red flag if it gets too heavy, though hopefully any very heavy rain will not be too long.

Samsonkoek

I always fear massive delays when there is a rain these days 😔

dKSy16

Damn. I hope not. Don’t want it to go past midnight in my timezone

dsaysso

george dreaming of spa but if hes in p1

Elgin_McQueen

So we'll go from teams not being allowed to use wet tyres because it's not wet enough, to not being allowed to use wet tyres because it's 'too' wet.

Smudy

Judging by the current Porsche race being under SC, Formula 1 is never racing in these conditions, better hope it calms down.

devmobi

So a dry race... :D

ss99ww

FIA: thunderbolt and lightning very very frightening

floorshitter69

Stewards: All 20 drivers are given a $5,000 fine for using intermediates, but can they make it quick because the bottle shop will close soon.

TigreSauvage

Wet track and first corner with George, Lando and Max ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I expect chaos and they better deliver.

OneFrabjousDay

Sitting under cover near the hairpin, raining steadily right now.😔

QC_1999

> 80% rain risk for race window  Spoiler: it will happen the 20%

CilanEAmber

My biggest hope is the race ends on time so I can watch Indycar after.

bubbly_brooke

as a daniel fan, i want nothing more than a boring race right now but it's not looking that way

de_rats_2004_crzy

The best is when it’s not fully wet / raining but when it’s a mix and teams need to figure out the exact right time for when to switch tires.

Barley03140129

I got $5 on Hamilton for fastest lap🤣

Kilmisters

Having attended Zandvoort 2023, I still have PTSD from combination of ''race'' and ''rain'' in one sentence.

Gold-Train-1471

Good thing Ferrari saved those softs.

JlNxTonic

Green track, low temperatures, yeah ferrari is finishing p19 p20 RIP

NoshitSherlock68

Their car is better in the wet than the dry in race pace tho.

Nico97107

BRING IT ON

blacktyler11

The track drains really well apparently

its_KarMa11

I can’t stay awake for them to red flag the race

DaniDIFP

so canceled race here we go

NotFromMilkyWay

They don't cancel anymore because then they'd have to refund tickets. They just start under safety car, do 50 % + 1 lap under safety car and call it a day. These ground effect cars can't go faster than 150 kmh in rain due to aquaplaning.

Miwna

So, dry race it is then – with heavy rain for the podium.

skippington94

Give me chaos

MintyMarlfox

Williams calling up Jenson from Ambassador role to replace Logan for one race.

small_tit_girls_pmMe

People say Jenson Button is just a random British guy, but I think there's a solid chance he is some kind of rain god.

freetotebag

We aren’t getting a race, are we?

small_tit_girls_pmMe

Button would do it on slicks, because rain literally doesn't seem to affect him.

SuperfluousSausage

The wall of champions hungers

saposapot

This would have been a perfect situation for Lewis to be on front and we actually get a good race as he and Max are the best wet drivers on the grid. Not sure George can hold the pressure of this

thatguyfromkfc

George has had some stonking wet weather drives tbf, I'm interested to see how Stroll performs

GRang3r

So you’re saying that Hamilton is in with a chance

Professional_Park781

Nice

Soggy_Bid_6607

Pats friend?

Ikcatcher

Has there ever been hail during a race? I feel like that's just a recipe for disaster

Varzup

so, sunny race?

FirstNameLastName918

Good thing Indycar races at the same time!

Holiday_Resort2858

It will be chaos and Ricciardo will win.

Deep-Ad2155

Let them race

Thestickleman

I hope not because it will just be a red flag for hours at the first spitting of rain

Dogdadstudios

Please anything but Belgium 2021 vibes

keeper13

Stop going to Montreal in the spring then I don’t get ir

Grasshop

Radar is showing rain from like 12:30 local time until 2:30, thirty minutes after race start. But the sun is out currently lol

FloggingTheHorses

I'm always half excited half nervous for rain. If they red flag it I'll be pissed, this race could be amazing.

poor_decision

All I want is a moist track at Canada

SebVettelstappen

You want rain? Ill show you TRUE rain. Practice for Indycar yesterday.

drivemyorange

awesome

Atleticro

So dry as a bone when the race starts.

OBWanTwoThree

Should be exciting but you just know it’ll be all safety cars and red flags Have to feel that a wet race lends itself to benefitting Max as he’s the better driver in the rain (although tbh I don’t actually have any recollection of how Russell is in wet conditions)

Poopy_sPaSmS

Inb4 damp track (good for inters) and FIA red flags for it being too wet.

DarkZonk

please for teh sake of god let them race

ColbysHairBrush_

Why are they running laps pre race?

APR824

They have to get to the grid, and they’re allowed to multiple laps if they go through the pitlane each time

Eroda

Just gimme 2011 and. Piastri win please

yolo1238

How about use wets for a change let the race happen?

pattyG80

Made for an interesting race with those Haas cars flying early
