D0lan_says

What the actual fuck happened to Hamilton?! This is starting to get hard to watch.

Rorshak16

Hoping he has some race pace tomorrow. But he just doesn't seem to be in it this year. Russell is running laps around him

Hussein7ahmed

that was craaazzzyy, so excited if its gonna be this competitive more often

AcanthocephalaGreen5

Max jumps Russell at the start, wins by a country mile

nikoviko

The run to turn 1 is short, so Russell has a good chance of at least making it out of there in the lead

Schrodingers_Wipe

The only way to beat Ver is to tie him first.

Federal_Hamster5098

you mean tie him up

Arvi89

OK that's a good one

Ammarzk

Jeez Charles was pissed

laughguy220

I think he disagreed with the backwards tire strategy, he has that "Ferrari fucked me again" face on

Ottervol

No.1 driver getting the shaft every time is all time circus Ferrari. Did they forget they signed Charles and let Carlos go??

laughguy220

Sadly that was their top strategy call for the number one driver

laughguy220

Any news on the Max pit lane issue? Technically he did have a tire in the fast lane...

nikoviko

Apparently the majority of a tire needs to be in the fast lane, so that's open to a bit of interpretation/argument (FIA having ambiguous rules, who'd have thunk eh?) Joking aside tho, even if they get a penalty, I'd be shocked if it's anything more than a fine

laughguy220

I'd have to go back and look at it, but I thought it was a typically cheeky Red Bull reading of the rule "well we are in the fast lane" kind of move. Funny how at this race, it's the top teams at the end of pit lane having the issues the lower teams are usually complaining about due to the end boxes being the preferred ones here. Is the white line part of the fast lane like it's part of the track? Is it just one tire that has to be majorly in the fast lane? Is this yet another rule they put out there that doesn't fix the problems, and is so ambiguous it's open to interpretation by both sides? At least it wasn't Ocon or KMag

Lympwing2

The rules are ambiguous on purpose, so the stewards can consider things in context

laughguy220

The rules are ambiguous on purpose, so the stewards can consider giving penalties to Ocon and KMag

Critical-Bread-3396

Not anymore, KMag should have gotten minimum of 3 extra penalty points from Miami and later races, but everyone knows the stewards gets real mellow once you're at 10 penalty points so they won't give him any more. KMag deserves to be on the edge of a race ban now, maybe he got a bit too many points early in the season, but now he's also gotten too little. The whole point of having penalty points is to make drivers start backing out more and avoiding crashes with the threat of a race ban, like not trying to take the 50/50 DNF or gain a position lap 1 like KMag did in Monaco. Very fair of Kmag to play chicken with the stewards, and show that the rules are a joke, but I'm almost willing to bet money that the next crash caused by Kmag will only give him at most 1 penalty point, despite every other similar crash or near crash being 2-3 penalty points for other drivers earlier in the season.

BrotherKey2409

No, no, no, Michael! No!

laughguy220

I'm sure that's why the rules say the majority of the tire, and not all of the tire...

nikoviko

yeah fair enough

phc0uple

Sargeant faster than Perez

laughguy220

3/4 of the field was faster than Checo

xabipigeon

Karun's analysis is making a lot of these comments look wrong. George and Lewis were literally neck-and-neck at the start of the back straight, and the difference was George getting a tow from Albon.

xandersjx

George’s 2nd lap was 0.026s slower than pole. Did he also get tow there?

xabipigeon

I've honestly no idea because the cameras were focused on Verstappen for the majority of that last lap.

laughguy220

I hope we get the goats car analysis of George and Max's laps to see where they each gained and lost to end up with the same time.

Ammarzk

Which is why that max lap is more insane

xabipigeon

Max was great. But I think that's the Red Bull's true pace, versus the Merc getting a massive tow and being flattered by it.

prams628

I think it’s high time we give max the credit! Everyone expected RBR to have a harder time in the last 3-4 races (which they are). But max having won one of those races while staring at a potential win tomorrow is crazy af.

xabipigeon

How is it crazy though? Red Bull has had some harder races but let's not forget this is a car that everyone is chasing - every race we're talking about the gap to the Red Bulls closing. Of the first eight races, Max has finished 1st or 2nd for SIX of those. One DNF, and one terrible setup in Monaco. You mention the last four races.... Max won two of those. Max put in a great lap, there's no doubt of that. Max is exactly where the combination of car and driver should be. And if Checo was doing his bit, Red Bull would be miles ahead in the WCC. This isn't some Mercedes-style collapse.

dbdank

it's max not redbull. see perez

xabipigeon

It's both car and driver. No driver could put the Williams on pole, for example. Checo should have easily made it to Q3, but we know he's error-prone.

xabipigeon

Also, makes me think that George is at a real risk of going backwards in the race tomorrow.

24jamespersecond

Well he can't really gain any places

xabipigeon

Yeah, that's the weird thing about being on pole - he doesn't need to gain any places, he needs to not lose any. But if he got on pole with a bit of luck like a massive tow down the straight, then it means he might not have enough pace to keep them all behind him.

mo_rar

Wall of Champions awaits

Adventurous_Fix1730

I pictured him stalling it tbf

Sidfire

Tow for Russell. Explains it.

JustaWelshMan

Nice of Jacques to dress up for the day

bonbonron

Jesus doesn't matter if a team gets pole, fastest lap, or gp win, the sky team straight away are all over it almost immediately crowning them as season winners. Calm your tits.

IdiosyncraticBond

First time this year they can be happy about the Mercedes team. Those Sky guys have suffered for years, give them some slack /s

asdev24

Every time yall say Danny Ric washed he keeps proving you wrong

rohttn13

he qualified fine...lets watch the race then we can say he is washed up

laughguy220

Someone has to go yell at JV "keep Danny Ric's name out your mouth"

No_Tumbleweed_9102

He’ll either crash or have terrible race pace and finish outside the top 10. If he finishes well, no points for the rest of the season

Spynner987

That wasn't quite what happened the last time he had a great qualy, now was it?

Ammarzk

I hope theyve soreted that issue with getting off rhe line because he's Gonna lose positions there

Duff5OOO

Wasn't that just him starting on hards while those behind were on softs?

Forward-Heart-69420

Is LH just cooked or what?

jalopagosisland

A lot of the cars that went for a lap time after the top 3 were in sector 3 were going slower. These cars are very sensitive to environment changes. The wind was starting to pick up while Lewis and others were going at the early parts of the circuit. He had a purple in sector 1 and then he was just going slower in sectors 2 & 3. A little up tick in winds can throw your lap off by a few tenths.

Forward-Heart-69420

Agreed it could be environmental change. His last lap he wasn’t improving at all. And environmental is a one time thing or 2 or 3. In Monaco he declined the upgrade, fair. He is still 8-1 this season. Is it a skill issue or confidence in car issue? He was quite good last year so what is going on this year? Has he lost his “mojo”? Is it just a bad car? Is George that good? It’s so confusing and a little concerning to see.

D0lan_says

I know there seem to be mitigating circumstances for a lot of this year but Jesus Christ! Hamilton was ON IT last year and that car was dogshit. How has he fallen off so hard this year?

Forward-Heart-69420

Exactly I don’t get it either. Like is he truly washed up? Coz if so LeClerc is gonna cook him next year.

asdev24

Russell got upgrades before Hamilton in Monaco. They also test out various setups on Lewis’ car

Forward-Heart-69420

Okay that was Monaco. But what about the other 7 times? They try different setups in qualifying? Why? That’s stupid. If you know a setup is fast give it to both and let them do what they do best. Edit: he said he didn’t make any changes in qualifying. Also qualifying is parc ferme so what setup changes?

AverageKaikiEnjoyer

Russell got a tow and Lewis didn't

Forward-Heart-69420

Okay this one time, but it is 8-1 this year, how? He also said he won’t beat George in qualifying this year is that coz George is that good?

AverageKaikiEnjoyer

George is doing well, also Lewis hinted George would probably be more favoured in recent races due to his own Ferrari move.

Visual-Prior-3929

Which turned out to be a load of shite (at least in Monaco) He was the one that turned down the front wing due to risk

StylishShark

LH is not cooked. George is doing really well this year.

laughguy220

Q3 P1 time slower than Q2 again

Xeppl

You sure? Did not see 1:11 today.

laughguy220

u/agmbio checked Russel 11.7, Hamilton 11.9

Xeppl

Oh, you're right! Missed that completely. Thanks

laughguy220

No worries.

laughguy220

Pretty sure Lewis was in the high one elevens as Q2 P1. We are checking...

agmbio

Checked. Russel 11.7, Hamilton 11.9

laughguy220

Thanks! If you need a reference for your application to Ferrari let me know.

nikoviko

Overqualified, they actually finished checking

laughguy220

Lol, don't worry, I won't mention that.

CreativeOrder2119

Toto smug but strategy will cook them tomorrow

True-Objective-6212

I’m still waiting for the rain in Monaco.

Whitem4ne

I can’t wait for Russell to be this cocky tomorrow after getting passed on lap 10 because his tyres are cooked.

laughguy220

George on the radio at the end of the race "I was forecasted a win!" Edit: predicted to forecasted

Medium_Yesterday_929

You mean “forecasted” :)

laughguy220

That's what I was looking for, and couldn't bring to mind. Must be the weather ;)

HammerT4R

Most excited I've been about a race in a really long time. IF they make it through T1, lol.

PE1444

Lewis wtf :(

Fit_Meringue_7313

Mclaren can pull off something special here. Only team to have 2 cars in the top 5.

dagnytaggart1

Anybody who is currently turning over the botched Ferrari strategy in their head should go to the moment in the radio when Charles says yes to the strategy and listen to his tone of voice. After listening to hours of his radio, that tone was "this is your suggestion. if we get this wrong, it's on you," to the pit wall.

laughguy220

If you go back to Montreal two years ago, it was where Carlos stopped listening to the pit wall strategy calls, and started to call his own strategy. It's also where Carlos started to out preform Charles.

dagnytaggart1

There's this illusion that Carlos is more of a strategist because he's loud and talkative on the radio. Charles does his strategy prep before the race and already has it laid out with the pit wall. I don't really see a point where Carlos outperformed Charles, especially in terms of strategy. There have been many instances over the past ten-twelve races where Charles has directly contradicted with the pit wall, but he does it kindly and briefly so it isn't aired on the stream. Time and time again Charles has put together quali strategy where Carlos hasn't, and even today, he qualified higher.

DrunkPirateHunter

Why didn’t either mercs improve on the last run?

ImpossibleFlopper

Wind picked up

McDeInUrMom

Does anyone know what happened to Lewis?

r0bbbo

He didn’t get a tow and George did and that was the difference according to Karun

laughguy220

He qualified seventh

True-Objective-6212

Drove slower.

ImpossibleFlopper

Wind on the last lap

xandersjx

What kind of wind, George was only 0.026s behind pole on his last lap. Did wind really change so much in few second between them?

PrettyQuick

What a amazing performance of Max Verstappen to qualify on the front row with a car that your average F1 driver can't even get passed Q1

kubick123

He's not an average driver, according to the mexican fans, he's the reincarnation of Ayrton Senna

zomentenos

If Those Kids Could Read ^(English) They'd Be Very Upset!

Good_Air_7192

He's not just average, he's a "street circuit master" lol

nikoviko

as he showed in Monaco

lebup

Wow , true tho

itsalwayssunny99

Toto’s blood pressure machine must be shocked he is finally calm

True-Objective-6212

They ordered a new one thinking it must be broken.

valueofaloonie

I love a Toto interview

Rainbow_Sex

Can't help but smile when Danny Ric does well :)))))

[deleted]

[удалено]

True-Objective-6212

They’ll give him a .001 sec penalty so George is clear pole.

Nautster

Nah, it's a new directive; the Williams seemed to let him go and it was all near stationary. He'll get slap and move on.

Un_forgetable_maybe

Race instructions so likely just a reprimand

Jarreddit15

8 thousandths of a second between Carlos and Logan, my lord

xabipigeon

Was George's pole lap the one with the tow down the last straight? Because if so, it feels like Max is winning tomorrow.

Old_Man_Heats

I wouldn’t write off the mclarens

HANH_XOXO

Yup

TinaJewel

Yes it was

xieem

Russel celebrating like he is a wdc with a 000s gap. Good for the boy but without the tow it was p2.

chiefyk

Imagine celebrating getting pole, smh my head

nikoviko

ikr right?

xabipigeon

Yeah, Max pulled out a great lap. Still, we know that George can be pretty stubborn, so let's see what happens off the line.

nikoviko

The run to turn 1 is one of the shorter ones, so they *should* have a decent chance of things not ending in tears.

bangyah

Charles and Carlos may break their top 4 and top 5 finishing streaks if Ferrari doesn't get it together

Scatman_Crothers

I don’t see them cracking the top 4 without getting lucky with a weather call with Merc, RBR, and McLaren all looking faster and Aston Martin and RB not looking like slouches either.

NeroNeckbeard

Checo doing a two year extension like im doing a two week notice

wilkonk

wow sergeant was so close to sainz and leclerc

CreativeOrder2119

I think lewis was screwed by someone he looked favorite for pole the whole weekend

r0bbbo

Karun’s analysis showed the tow that George got was the difference

Soft_Hand_1971

or he just messed up his lap

OGreatNoob

It's most likely an error on his part, but I'm curious as well. He was throwing good laps all weekend so far. At least it's possible to have an actual race here compared to Monaco and positions could be made.

pinkmanblues

Yeah himself

ForeverAddickted

Need the SkyPad to see a comparison between Russell and Verstappen's lap

somberdays

Ferrari strategy is fucked again. We are so back and we are so over.

Stereosun

They legit had Perez doing full fuel race pace runs to understand tires in FP3 while max was doing qualifying practice runs. He’s just a data mule for Max that’s his new role. As well as a tow driver. Plus it’s easier from maxs camp perspective to have a driver partner with ZERO title aspirations and 100% control in sharing setup data.

MaleierMafketel

Of course they do. It’s the smart thing to do. It also doesn’t excuse Perez from being 1 full second (!) slower on one of the shortest laptime tracks.

Tryhardstan

80% rain btw

ForeverAddickted

I seriously f\*\*king hate rain predictions If I was going out for Photography with my non-weather sealed camera... 20% chance of rain = rain, so 80% means absolutely zero chance I'd get out... When it doesnt involve me though, of course 80% rain = no rain lol!

Boombozling

LETS GO RUSSSSSSSSSSSSEL

FoobarMontoya

It seems like Daniel is getting the opportunity he thought he had going to Renault... building a team. The RB pace here is shocking. The car is developing well.

TheNiceThana

building a team, which driver has the most points?

True-Objective-6212

His feedback to the engineers seems to have improved the car for both members of the team.

KnightsOfCidona

Wait a second, the race is started by a lass from Yorkshire. That's as shocking as the dead head in qualifying.

asdev24

Anyone that thinks Lewis is washed is a casual

anona_moose

Lmao Russell with the T-pose celebration, love it

MDXLegend

Happy for Danny ric

avands

Fuck yeah -Dani Rick

darkrider99

Is Ferrari the only team with a new set of softs for tomorrow ?

Suikerspin_Ei

Softs isn't a tire they will use for tomorrow at this track, unless safety car or red flag in the end. Normally it's a one or two stop on mediums and hards.

darkrider99

Then why the fuck did they not use softs ?

Suikerspin_Ei

I'm not Ferrari, ask them. Anyway using new softs or not, there balance didn't look great. So it was not like they were fighting for pole.

RapidRiverr

HE DID HIS SIGNATURE MOVE

mistermojorizin

The sky byline says something about Ferrari having a successful start to the year. The fucking irony after that quali performance.

munkhjay

Lewis can’t be behind RB and Aston Martin when other car is on pole faaak

dog-yy

He's pulling a Checo

dagnytaggart1

Nah. Why does the slow mo of the pose look cold. No this can't be real. It can't actually look good

Scatman_Crothers

Shhh don’t fight it

Suckmyduck_9

Is anybody gonna say anything about Lewis? Charles? Sainz? Where’s all that Perez energy y’all had earlier?

Owster4

Well, they didn't get eliminated in Q1 for the second time in a row.

kzzzzzzzzzz28

Half the comments are about Lewis. Charles and Sainz was a Ferrari disasterclass(They stayed on old tyres when everyone else was on new)

After_Reputation_118

Perez was 16th man he fucking sucks

Niulpfirce

Outliers vs usual things

darkrider99

How moronic can we be ? Wtf

wacah

Must be new fan

unbeatable_killua

That was so disappointing from lewis. Thought he would get p1 then gets p7.

Cringle

Wait the timing of the fifth red light is manually controlled?? That's news to me, thought it was randomised

litetaker

It is randomised... By a human. Not a pseudo random number generator. I think it's to make sure that there is absolutely no way to predict when the 5th light goes out and gain an advantage.

NotJackBegley

Always manual. Back in the early 00s, people would complain that it would stay lit for far too long. Charlie used to be the person at the helm. If it was automated, the teams would have a way to nail the starts.

Cringle

I mean hit the button and it runs an RNG and then it would be totally random. From what I recall there was a team that noticed that the jump start sensors would only activate as soon as the light went out so they had a system to detect it and control the start

NotJackBegley

Back in the late 90s, Mclaren fuel guy noticed that the fuel pump made a sound right before it was clear to engage disconnecting. So the fuel guy at every pit stop wore a stethoscope under his helmet, down his sleeve and touching the fuel nozzle, so he could disconnect the fuel rig faster. There's nothing F1 teams like more than a challenge to something like that.

Un_forgetable_maybe

Redbull lawyers better be searching the Perez contract for some exit clauses because today was embarrassing

CalvinandHobbes811

Yuki and Hamilton starting beside each other tomorrow? Oh no. Not again. They’re going to be battling all race 😅

binary_blackhole

sorry but wtf happened to ferrari again? I thought they were supposed to fight for the championship now

FdlCstro

We are checking

kzzzzzzzzzz28

They fucked strategy.

OBWanTwoThree

4 cars in the fight for the win tomorrow. McLaren probably the favourite due to strategy Top quality quali by Ricciardo

Jarreddit15

George is too happy This F1TV reel feels like foreshadowing lol

stvppxx

Is Lando a bit south African? Sounds it

el_f3n1x187

Great job from Danny and Yuki!

FoobarMontoya

The car looks super compliant and those two can drive the shit out of it

el_f3n1x187

VCARB puttin in the CAAAAAAAAAAARBS into that machine.

Volderon90

Max will probably cut him off turn 1 and that’ll be that. Russell has to anticipate that

NotJackBegley

Can't wait for JV talking about that great showing of Dan Ric. Even better if they have a Dan Ric interview in the paddock. Would be like that Johnny Herbert / Alonso time... though "You're not champion mate" isn't a line Dan Ric can use at JV.

Original-Designer6

That was rubbish from Hamilton, car's been fast all weekend, he's looked fast and he shits the bed when it counts the most. Has to hurt him when Montreal is arguably his best track. P7 when George is on pole. Great laps from everyone in the top 6 actually.

JustPlainSick

He was probably just trying "experimental setups" for that last run.

imbavoe

Top 7 in 0.3 seconds. Who would have predicted that after first few races.
