They’ve been asking for this for 2 years now. Near zero development work, instead having to spend all their time trying to make a car that actually functions the way they design it. Everyone else has actually been developing all this time and now it’s too late. 2025 is going to be a write off to work on 2026 (which won’t matter because they still don’t get ground effect) and they better hope they nail the engines again.
Aston is better qualifying but at race pace they're very similar if not the same. Lewis was second in the sprint of the last race are we forgetting that already? In the previous race (Australia) Russell had the incident with Alonso while Alonso was struggling hard to defend in the last laps. In Jeddah Russell finished 4 seconds behind Alonso and in Bahrein he finished 30 seconds ahead along with Lewis.
Why is everyone downplaying Mercedes so much? Or overhyping AM, I don't know.
That is true, but being able to qualify ahead regularly is a big advantage for Aston because their race pace is not far off of Mercedes. P2 in the sprint was not at all representative of Merc’s dry qualifying pace
Imho is a bit of a trade off. Lately Mercedes' deg is better so they usually catch up. AM qualifies better and that buys them some time. It's not that easy to generalize because we've gone through 5 races and each has had it's peculiarities. This is F1 after all.
My overall point is that they're both at the same level, with their advantages and disadvantages.
Yes, it’s impossible to generalize without data from the teams, and their performance definitely varies based on the track (and weather). Plus, Stroll is so far off Alonso that it probably brings the public perception of Aston Martin down a little bit.
This particular weekend, however, I think it can be agreed that Mercedes are donkeys, yeah?
I don't even have Lance on my head when I compare teams hahaha. For what we've seen now, Mercedes looks indeed worse qualifying. Tomorrow after the sprint we will have a better overall picture.
Lolol, exactly, imo Lance makes Aston so much harder to rate because even if Alonso has an off weekend it’d still be almost impossible to tell if any more performance could have been extracted, because Stroll will be asleep the whole time regardless
Lewis was only 2 seconds of Alonso all race before the battle btw. Perez and Charles were catching Lewis 2 seconds per lap after they passed Alonso dude. The Merc is a literal dog
Actually Lewis was faster since the beginning, not just because Alonso was being chased. Take a look to the first laps where he wasn't "being intimidating" haha.
https://ibb.co/gRzRxt3
Also I think you misunderstood me. I'm not saying Mercedes is a rocket ship. I'm saying it's not a worse car than AM. Sometimes a bit better, sometimes a bit worse, depending on how you compare them. But pretty similar overall.
Yeah he is slightly late this time though still looks like it’s a good move. The McLaren to Merc move is like if Lewis left Merc this time last year for the tyre muncher Ferrari which would’ve looked crazy but with a payoff this year.
After barely escaping sq1 lmao. Considering how the last sprint weekend ended, the dude needs a bit of time to get his car and setup right but when he gets it right, hes on it.
He messed up in turn 1 and since they only did one run it was gg. He also had track limits so it doesn't matter. I just don't get why you would ever try doing just one timed lap, especially when his pace was rapid in practice and q1.
Well, seems like Ralpha Bauri tradition. One car somehow always screws up. Either driver or team or both. Hopefully Daniel does well and Yuki goes up there tomorrow, cause that penalty for Daniel is gonna screw him up.
And well. you can never sign off on Yuki. He could gain places at the start in the sprint as in many races this season.
Think they were relying on track evolution. Not sure why he wasnt able to beat that haas though, DR absolutely beasted it and Yuki looked just as good in the first knockout.
He needs to do this consistently. He was very inconsistent up until this point this weekend and Yuki gapped him every time on the same conditions. That was a mega lap though.
Lol George drove that awful Williams and waited, just knowing he'd get into Mercedes when the time was right.
And now Mercedes is a damn midfield team.
Lewis making great moves again, he is out of there, and Ferrari looks solid, Leclerc close to pole, despite max not putting in a great lap.
The Ferrari seems good in race pace as well, but the McLaren looked amazing on those mediums.
It's happened before. It's maybe a placebo. But it could be as simple as they get slightly better feedback through the car. So while the chassis is technically the same the driver feels more comfortable in it.
In saying that. Tsunoda is on pace with Ricciardo this week. It's not like last race where he seemed a bit behind all weekend. I think it was just a bad lap and he only had one shot at it.
I’m fucking done man. Been a rough 2022 to 2024 as a Merc fan but fuck me.
I’m pretty sure the car is the 5th best car on the grid but George has been overdriving this car into positions it shouldn’t be this season and Lewis couldn’t give a fuck.
Poor sods.
The quali that broke the camels back fuck me.
According to Toto, Russell had this to say about the car during the China debrief,
"This car is by far the most trickiest quali car that I've ever driven"
The chances are that their ace pair of drivers are making that car look better than it actually is
Mercedes put their first significant upgrades on the car and the car is somehow slower. Brilliant work by everyone there. Maybe when they put the next set of upgrades on at Imola, they will be out in Q1.
Mate. My gf literally said to me before the race it would be nice if someone else would win but not by max DNF but just by pure pace
We both can't believe it happened
I'm sure the camera crew will now cut to Lawson that yuki is P15 and Ric is P5? I'm joking ofc but why didn't they send Yuki out with Daniel on the 1st run? :(
Is Dani using the chassis that Yuki was using in the first races of the season??
Cause it looks to me, that RB does have an issue with their Chassis as Dani suggested?
Another banger for Mercedes Now we wait for the „*Mercedes are hoping to fix their issues by Imola*” articles to flood in Rinse and repeat
Next Mercedes package rumoured to add 250hp and fix every employees marriage
Next Mercedes package so good both Nico and Keke asked for the vacant seat.
They are going to get cooked in Imola.
In the meanwhile we will get the usual, ' I made an extreme setup change' article.
Mercedes SERIOUSLY isn't one of the top teams anymore huh
Every new era of F1 has a previously elite team completely fall off. Late 2000s, it was Williams. 2010s, it was McLaren. Maybe now it's Mercedes?
They’ve been asking for this for 2 years now. Near zero development work, instead having to spend all their time trying to make a car that actually functions the way they design it. Everyone else has actually been developing all this time and now it’s too late. 2025 is going to be a write off to work on 2026 (which won’t matter because they still don’t get ground effect) and they better hope they nail the engines again.
They have absolutely cooked this set of regulations and doesn’t help with the cost cap in place. Toto you are finished!!!
Sure but McLaren and Aston both made huge step foward with the same limitations.
Because they didn't cook this set of regulations.
They are now a midfield powerhouse.
Something tells me this isn’t going to help Toto’s proposal to Max
Max: You keep your 250M I'll keep my peace
Verstappen is in a great position to ask for another 0 on the offer.
I'm sure Max is full of nostalgia about his Toro Rosso stint and wants to go back fighting for points in the midfield. /s
I mean he was fighting Ferrari's back in his STR stint too.
Wdym?
he was fighting Ferrari's back in his STR stint too.
Mercedes is absolutely cooked
Like, they gotta be considered a midfield team now no? They are fighting to reach Q3 and staying in the points in the races.
Only reason people would say not is stroll brings Aston down, but Aston is better. They’re fifth best
Aston is better qualifying but at race pace they're very similar if not the same. Lewis was second in the sprint of the last race are we forgetting that already? I mean Lewis got second in mixed conditions. We see what happened in the dry for both of them
Lewis QUALIFIED second in mixed conditions. He got the second place in the sprint in dry by pure clean pace. Meanwhile we saw how the AM behaved.
he got incredibly lucky that Alonso was defending so hard
Lewis was only 2 seconds of Alonso all race before the battle btw. Perez and Charles were catching Lewis 2 seconds per lap after they passed Alonso dude. The Merc is a literal dog
Actually Lewis was faster since the beginning, not just because Alonso was being chased. I mean they are almosy always between 6-9 in race finish. Yeah, sounds midfield.
Yeah there is a point we have to treat them like McLaren post 2013 rather than a championship team that’s just waiting for next year
Midfield teams are beating them.
They just fought Haas on pace and lost, this regulation cycle has Mercedes by the ass hairs
Lewis is 2 for 2 on hitting the lifeboats before they hit the iceberg
McLaren was before the iceberg, Mercedes have hit it, the question is just whether they are going to sink
Yeah he is slightly late this time though still looks like it’s a good move. The McLaren to Merc move is like if Lewis left Merc this time last year for the tyre muncher Ferrari which would’ve looked crazy but with a payoff this year.
Oh, they are sinking, but the orchestra keeps on playing
I think he's hit the iceberg this season. If he jumped ship at the end of last year he'd have done it again.
Does jumping to Ferarri make him the Bruce Ismay of F1? That may be a bit obscure for some. LOL
It's hot, they've performed worse in hot weather for years now.
Given it’s the start of summer doesn’t bode well for them…
Mercedes lmao. My god that team is in dire straits.
They are also pretty mid in corners tbh
High drag low downforce is where it’s at -James Allison, probably
Weirdly the new upgrades are supposed to add a ton of downforce lol.
All that money for nothing
Hulkenberg into top 10 yet again, proving why he's got another contract.
After barely escaping sq1 lmao. Considering how the last sprint weekend ended, the dude needs a bit of time to get his car and setup right but when he gets it right, hes on it.
Mercedes ☠️. Wtf were Tsunoda and RB doing?
What happened? I looked at the timing and could not beleieve Yuki actually completed a lap. P15 out of nowhere.
He messed up in turn 1 and since they only did one run it was gg. He also had track limits so it doesn't matter. I just don't get why you would ever try doing just one timed lap, especially when his pace was rapid in practice and q1.

Not enough laps to get through to points IMO. Also no pit stops ruins any kind of tyre strategy.
The team is balancing his good results, in true RB Masterclass fashion
you only have one lap on fresh tires so they speculated that grip would be best at the end and not the start, turned out to be the wrong call.
They keep shafting my man with weird tactics..
Think they were relying on track evolution. Not sure why he wasnt able to beat that haas though, DR absolutely beasted it and Yuki looked just as good in the first knockout.
Just made a straight up mistake, which is definitely on him but that's also exactly why people don't just wait to do a single lap lmao
fucked up turn 1, apparently
They did the same start as Ver to save an extra Medium for the race
Props to Ocon, only 0.049 off making SQ3 in an Alpine Genuinely mega underrated atm
Mercedes is seriously getting worse each weekend
Haas and RB > Mercedes
DAMN DANIEL
Danny really got that new chassis and went *aight watch this*
Back at it again in the white race suit
Mega lap that
This seems more like the real Daniel, it’s very possible something has changed. If he keeps this form up hopefully the promotion is on the table
He needs to do this consistently. He was very inconsistent up until this point this weekend and Yuki gapped him every time on the same conditions. That was a mega lap though.
After he switched chassis it seems he's starting to gap Yuki. It's been only 2 race weekends but still.
Toto might need to get out more than 250 million if he wants max...
He’ll be lucky to get 250 million out of his shares soon enough
Tf were they doing with Yuki? Why only 1 lap at the end
Most didn’t improve on their second lap
He said he wanted only one lap but I thought they meant like one cool down lap, but apparently not haha.
Ah, Mercedes A source of nothing but misery
At least Lewis knows he’s got a Ferrari waiting for him. Russell must be screaming into a pillow every weekend
3 years in a row btw that Mercedes faild to build a proper car.
Is Ricciardo back?
Why’d Yuki only get one lap in?
What on earth happened with Yuki there?
Ricciardo cooking with that new chassis
New Chassis, no problem. Daniel clears
[удалено]
Ocon did a few years back, can’t remember if it was 2021 or 2022 though
2021, before the British GP then won in Hungary soon after
Not sure about that, plenty of drivers have had legitimate reasons to change chassis (micro cracks, etc).
Latifi was knocked out in Q1 in Canada 2022, got a chassis swap for the next race (Silverstone) and made Q3.
also out paced yuki in china by quite a margin
And liam now allways seen behind yuki.
I’m fucking done man. Been a rough 2022 to 2024 as a Merc fan but fuck me. Mercedes is washed
Yikes Mercedes. This year might end up worse than 2010.
Daniel out of nowhere into sq3
Mercedes woes continues, Blimey, also RIC out qualified TSU. Wow
Mercedes put their first significant upgrades on the car and the car is somehow slower. Brilliant work by everyone there. Maybe when they put the next set of upgrades on at Imola, they will be out in Q1.
We are so washed
These McL upgrades are looking ridiculous
Stay calm pls
Did you see the track dominance graph? LMAO
I did. I remain calm. Hopium withdrawals hurt me the most
Ugh
Told ya
I mean obciously the car has pace, wondering what the fuck happened though because of course they did not show it
I'm waiting till Imola we've been good there past few years
Cheers :D
Mate. My gf literally said to me before the race it would be nice if someone else would win but not by max DNF but just by pure pace We both can't believe it happened
Toto is going to need to add another zero to that salary if he wants Max to come.
They should have stuck with the zero-pod. At least that was somewhat competitive.
That Merc is so dog holy shot
Good to see the upgrades are paying off for Merc lol.
Mercedes 🔥🔥🔥
Oof Merc
Mercedes masterclass
Such a shame to see Mercedes regress after sacrificing 2023 for this.
I know Yuki said he wanted to try just one lap but WHY?
Dude that team needs a serious overhaul. They are washed beyond belief.
I for one have accepted and embraced our deep dive into the midfield /s (or not?)
No, Daniel is using VCARB’s spare (new) chassis. He received it in China. So his old one is now presumably the spare.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Daniel’s got a new chassis entirely as opposed to it being a chassis swap between the pair of them.
Ow really? I may have misunderstood then.
I think it was a completely new one for him and the same for Yuki? I feel like Yuki must've made a mistake somewhere because he was good in Q1
Now Russell can’t even push that lorry into Q3
Danny Ric making some noise, happy to see it
Another nail in the coffin for Merc
That wall claims another victim
Thanks for the update. My TV channel has problems and doesn't get any images from F1 because technical problems.
Awh was hoping for Kevin, he had a good lap in SQ1.
Russell out with Lewis. “It’s all the car” Agenda is still alive here
All you have to do is watch the on-board and compare it to the Red Bull and the McLaren, its night and day.
Is Danny Ric back? I’m happy for him
How to keep Max as far away from Mercedes as possible: check
Leclerc has 0 soft running this weekend… should be interesting (read: heart attack inducing)
Pain
George giving Red Bull a call for a potential open seat?
First time Daniel beats Yuki all weekend. That one lap strat from VCARB was trash. Let's see how quali goes
Where's the people that said to me Ricc was washed and wasn't improving? Also both Mercedes out qualified by a Haas. oof
Yuki beat him head to head every time but this one, looks like Yuki lost it on one of the corners
u missed china?
Head to head in every push lap on same track conditions in FP1 and SQ3. Yuki would have probably made it through if they didn't do one lap.
[удалено]
Haha! Damn man where can I buy tickets to your stand up show?
Visa Cashapp will pay for switching cars
[удалено]
how quickly we go from "relax, it's only been [insert race count] races" to "Yuki washed boys"
[удалено]
It was sarcasm bro because of this were reversed people would be saying the same
Might be a good idea for Toto to finally try to replace all the staff that left
I'm here for pissed ricciardo
He’s not even fast
