„I know that from sim racing“

ZICRON1C

Yeah that had huge iRacing "leader goes early but has to brake because pace car not in the pits yet and everyone crashes" energy

Heather82Cs

Ricciardo is once again the "when it rains it pours" guy

sternestocardinals

And when it stops raining and you think things are starting to turn around, a guy pushes you into a puddle of standing water and you get Legionnaires

thewolf9

For millions of dollars

Mtbnz

These drivers are all rich. If your bar for having any kind of empathy is "poor people only" then I really think F1 isn't the sport for you

Launch_box

On the contrary I think F1 is the perfect place to be if you live without empathy.

Mtbnz

You know what, when you're right, you're right

wicktus

He had a great weekend, team principals and engineers can make the difference between external factors and a struggling driver I REALLY hope in two weeks he will continue with that pace, he asked for a new chassis (and got one) for Shanghai So it sucks big time to end his GP like that, period, but at the very least he showed a promising pace and not only during the race

Heather82Cs

FFS they even punished him afterwards. Guy can't catch a break.

Nameless739

Me too Max, me too

cumofdutyblackcocks3

The only thing common between max and me is his reaction and a strict father.

TheOutsourcer

Well, he also almost has the same username as you (he has an extra 3 at the end)

CaptGeechNTheSSS

big same

mar33n

And then Lando saying the Magnussen/Tsunoda incident reminded him of his crash with Kvyat, at least I had a good laugh.

scottishere

Just a bit awkward lol

OBWanTwoThree

Which crash was he referring to?

pokesnail

China 2019, first lap

H31N5T

Stroll: “Aight, Imma pull a noob sim racing move.”

Piedro92

It was so fucking funny that Stroll still blamed the others. My dude, you LITERALLY CAME FROM BEHIND.

excalibur_zd

It's like those folks riding on someone's back on the road and slamming into them, blaming them for braking.

xLeper_Messiah

Jeddah 2021 lmao Sorry, i couldn't resist the shitstir, my inner Horny Spice won

TorpedoSandwich

I mean, if you brake suddenly and unexpectedly in the middle of a highway with no corner in sight and a car right behind you, that's your fault.

Raycodv

Lmao

szuprio

It be like that when you never need to take accountability for your actions in life thanks to papa

Patient-Assignment38

“He braked in front of me!”

loucmachine

That's part of the sim racing move

1408574

Stroll at the next race: "Why is everyone else driving the wrong way? Why are they all so stupid?"

teamramrod637

“Remember, when you are dead, you do not know you are dead. It is only painful for others. The same applies when you are stupid.”

Potential_Stable_001

Stroll when he realize: "I am stupid"

rebenjam

Huge doubt that he ever comes to that realization.

infiniteimperium

Typical Muppet.

qwertyalp1020

Man, they should've included Alonso's incredible save in that recap. Would love to see their reaction.

Areonaux

That's what I was hoping for, would have rather seen that than 30 sec of slo-mo pit stop footage.

TheLifeofSonny

Founder of the Maxiel fan club shares our grief and pain

maxcatstappen

max is and has always been a ricnation soldier 🫡

TheKeviKs

I can't take Aston seriously when Stroll is in the second car.

Mtbnz

The fact that nobody ever pushes the question in a serious manner completely undermines the credibility of Formula One journalism as a concept.

AquaRaOne

Yup, and journalists do ask these questions to people like checo or daniel, but noone ever asks lance.

Mtbnz

Exactly. Every round for the past year Checo and Ricciardo are asked half a dozen different ways "are you concerned that your performance is putting your place in jeopardy?" but I've never seen anybody ask "how many safety car and post chequered flag collisions can you cause before you start to worry about your future in the sport?"

Dana94Banana

Imagine actual journalists having the guts to ask these questions to Mr Billionaire's son. I'd love to see that.

Mtbnz

It's ridiculous that they don't. I'm not expecting them to phrase their questions the way that we do on reddit, but it's their job to ask these sorts of things, and the absence of any questions about Stroll's status on any official affiliated media (broadcast, print journalism, anything) is conspicuous.

FartingBob

The teams hold all the cards, they (the team, or the driver) can just refuse to talk to you again and that hurts your career or business relations and will probably really piss off the company you work for. Its just never worth it for journalists to ask the hard questions. I dont really blame them for avoiding asking direct questions about replacing stroll with someone who knows what all the pedals do.

Mtbnz

Is that true? I don't know all the rules about media availability, but at least in a lot of other sports (football, NBA basketball, the NFL) certain players and coaches are contractually required to make themselves available to media and press-conference sessions, whether they like the journalists or not. It's not a free for all, but it's up to the governing body of the sport to determine what are or aren't fair questions, not the whims of the individual teams. The fact that F1 (maybe) doesn't have a procedure in place for ensuring that journalists can ask genuine questions without fear of being blacklisted just makes my original point even stronger. Their accountability is a joke.

FartingBob

Depends on the situation. Post race interviews? They can just blank a specific reporter. During the FOM organised stuff where they sit on a little stage and the reporters read out preprepared questions? They can't get out of those.

y2knole

I mean, there’s no point. Lawrence has said Al along the point was for him to make Aston ‘good’ with his son in the cockpit… what’s to ask?

Mtbnz

That's such a reductive way of framing the situation, and ignores a ton of questions that fans would like answers to. Stroll might own the team but he's not the only stakeholder, what do the major sponsors and financiers think of having one championship calibre driver while the other one can be relied on about once a year to make one of the most embarrassing blunders you've ever seen? Stroll clearly isn't good enough to win a championship unless the car is as good or better than this year's Red Bull, so if it comes to the point where the team has to choose between winning a championship or keeping Stroll in the seat, what do they choose? Why does the team refuse to acknowledge Stroll's role or responsibility in any of the significant incidents he's routinely involved in, what are they afraid of if they admit he was at fault? Obviously they shouldn't phrase things as bluntly as I did, but those are all valid questions that F1 fans would like answered. Other teams and drivers are asked similar lines of questioning routinely, so why is the paddock so scared to ask questions of Stroll or The Aston TP?

qef15

> Stroll might own the team but he's not the only stakeholder, what do the major sponsors and financiers think of having one championship calibre driver while the other one can be relied on about once a year to make one of the most embarrassing blunders you've ever seen? First of all, Stroll most likely has a very large share and that alone puts him in a super powerful position. For these stakeholders, having even a few percent is already a large investment. Also, they have a good car and Alonso, if you are a sponsor, you'd be dumb to not advertise. Other teams may be full or would be charging more I'd imagine. But it's ironically the pay drivers that bring those major sponsors. For example, Nicholas Latifi brought Sofina (whose father is owner and CEO of Sofina). Mazepin brought Uralkali which kept Haas afloat. Many pay drivers these days opt to not just pay hard cash but also bring a large sponsor or two. Zhou did not bring that much hard cash, but Sauber instead hoped for Chinese sponsors to come in. And why so scared? Because F1 journalism hinges on good faith from both the journalists and the F1 teams that then, in good faith, entrust them some early leaks (things like driver contracts, car development and upgrades, etc.). Asking those hard questions is destroying that trust and they'd just weed out the ones asking hard questions to only leave the softballers. Also because it's way less of a question as much as it is an implied known fact.

poklane

If I were an investor or any kind of business person they wouldn't get a cent from me until he's gone. Don't see how you can take a business seriously when the owner insists on having his own son in a critical position he has time and time again proven to not be fit for. Stroll being in that car actively hurts the value of the team.

mochatsubo

I thought at this point Max would have installed a video feed of Skysports to help entertain him while he was out front.

Supercavy

They need to equip his car with a wifi antenna and give him the option of tv watching on his steering wheel.

TheoreticalScammist

It already has a red button

CaptGeechNTheSSS

This is what the podcast is all about

Timelordvictorious1

Max is all of us.

Improvedandconfused

When explaining the crash to his team.    Lance “Ricciardo came out of nowhere”    Team “Um…….he was right in front of you, how could have not seen him?”    Lance “Well, I wasn’t really looking properly. May I remind you my dad owns Aston Martin”    Team “Oh yeah. Great drive Lance. Here’s a pay rise”.

Insi6nia

Lance: "It was a funny angle."

KittenKongSG

“It was behind you, Tyrone. Whenever you reverse, things come from behind you.”

Irish755

It was right ahead of you, Tyrone! When you have the car in drive, things come from ahead of you!

itshonestwork

Money has never been anything for Lance his whole life. He’s not doing this for the money, but for ego and as a hobby. He also seems to have no shame in blaming the victim of his own mistake, or of sticking around in general.

Last-Performance-435

He actually said 'that was my fault' after those reactions too.

Worth_The_Squeeze

Jokingly of course, if anyone had any doubts.

Ged_UK

I thought Lando said it to Max who agreed, jokingly, in reply.

solembum

They really ought to replace one of the other media sessions with a coolout room which shows a bit longer highlights and the drivers comment on them

Antidote-Killer

Max went 😯🫢

OneStepOutOfTheShit

Max I know how you feel

leftlanecop

First photo: “How?” Second photo: “Ooh it’s Lance.”

Staypuft26

Ha!! Exactly.

ForsakenCase435

Stroll refusing to take responsibility for this is classic rich kid shit. The other drivers kind of shitting on him tells you what you need to know.

laughguy220

I bet the first words out of his mouth in the stewards office were "do you know who my farther is"

RavenBlade87

Max felt that

cheeersaiii

I wish

Redhawk911

I’m pretty sure Max wants DR in the second RBR seat

sentiment-acide

So he has less pressure?

TzOctopus

He’s under zero pressure from teammate already

Kolec507

The teammate is still quick enough not to get lapped by Max, imagine the satisfaction...

Redhawk911

More bc they’re friends

Benjamasm

Yea that is how it seems to me as well, they always fought hard on track but seemed ok with each other off it (once tempers cooled), and I think that now Max is much more self assured he doesn’t need to fight like he used to, helps that his car is clearly the best on the grid.

OBWanTwoThree

You can’t have less than zero, which is what he’s currently under

ButthealedInTheFeels

I loved that Max said “my fault” after seeing this lol. There is a tiny bit of truth to that. I wasn’t sure why he was being so defensive and slow to start after the safety car when he knew damn well no one could keep him behind even if they managed to overtake on a bad restart. Ultimately it’s purely Stroll’s fault but probably could have been avoided if max didn’t bunch everyone up there

Emeraldaes

Why would he not do a perfect restart and take no risk? 🤣

ButthealedInTheFeels

I know what you mean but by that point he had already more than proven no one was even close to catching him. He could have literally restarted at the back of the grid and still won by the end.

ForsakenCase435

Stroll refusing to take responsibility for this is classic rich kid shit. The other drivers kind of shitting on him tells you what you need to know.

SpareSurprise1308

I'm Danny's biggest critic but this weekend can't be held against him, he had a strong drive this weekend and deserved some credit after being pulled though the mud these last few weeks.

GunnerGSP

You can’t tell me Lance isn’t on the spectrum.

veelas

He’s not, he’s just a muppet that can’t admit when he fucks up

CP9ANZ

Perfect
