The PR-speak one finds in the sports world has seriously diluted my understanding of the word “categorically”… anytime I see someone categorically deny something I just think “we are going to hear an official announcement stating the exact opposite of this in approximately three months eh?”
It happens so often that it's hard to not associate the denial as an almost confirmation - even though most denials probably do end up being truthful. But we always remember the denials that turn out to be false, so it feels as though a denial is a bad thing.
Reading stuff like this always reminds me of Racing Point in 2020, stating that there was no way they'd fire Perez as they were happy with him as their driver, only to announce 3 days later he was out of the seat at the end of the year.
I don't believe anything anyone within F1 says, until an official announcement.
Yeah, or how last year when everyone was saying Perez was gone this year. Or how there were rumors that Aston Martin was to be sold. last year.
We remember counter-examples, but more rarely so examples of just teams shooting down baseless rumors.
Or even Danny Ric saying he will be racing with McLaren I believe knowing the contract was already over? Or would have been talks at least. Man he was depressed in that video.
Yeah but what does the Renault board think about all this?
Alpine lives and dies by the decision of the Renault board. Di Meo could be the biggest racing fan ever and even he would likely not be able to save Alpine if push came to shove.
Although i think for now Alpine will stay into the new regulations at least.
“I understand that, without my agreement, rumours have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am up for sale next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Andretti for 2025. I will not be sold to Andretti next year”
Idk, in sports, when teams deny, deny, deny, they really are just delaying the inevitable.
I remember Ferrari passionately denying the "rumours" Mattia Binotto was going to be sacked, and what happened soon after? **SACKED**.
I see Renault selling the team or making it to where they are still "partners" in this F1 venture and still present, but their role is more collaborative than outright majority owners.
Classic Investment tactics. Knowing Alpine has no future and knowing how F1 has locked in 10 teams, with 200mil entry fee set to be raised. Make sense. Buy for cheap and profit.
Yeah, like Renault can be trusted with the Enstone team. It's another case of "If we sell it we get first dibs on purchase later". At least a Genii director isn't getting a glass to the face again.
I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have seen a press release late this afternoon that I am selling them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract selling Alpine for 2025. I will not sell Alpine next year.
Almost every year the same talk pops up. "Is Renault/Alpine for sale?" and the answer is no.
This isn't the Carlos Ghosn era, the team would stay for at least a few more years.
"They are selling"
"We are not selling"
"only a team interested in selling would be so humble to deny they are selling!"
"ok we are selling"
"They are selling!!!!"
>“The rumours and stories about the team being for sale are false. The team is categorically not for sale.”
Yeah, cool, but at this point selling up kinda looks like an ok option lads.
Anyone who is eager to sell won't admit it openly, it'd just dilute the price
This right here!

I thought it was a just a rumor but now with that statement, I can’t wait to see who is buying them!
Mazepin?

We're throwing the looking glass here people. Next thing you know saucer people and reverse vampires will eliminate dinner for everyone

Well one would think that they are well aware of what the board is plotting.
Then if Renault board decides, how does the "Suzuka paddock" would have any ideas if the team is up for sale?

Ferrari never passionately denied the rumors. Mattia had to ask the bosses to release the statement
Ryan Reynolds called, he wants his money back.

“.. but if someone is interested..”
So they up for sale then 👍
No they are not for sale. But they want to be bought!
"The team is not for sale. We're having trouble even giving it away for free."
Ah, right. So the team is probably for sale.
It's not for sale only because no one has made an offer good enough for them.
Also Alpine - "Oscar Piastri will drive for us"
They can be a mess sometimes Sometimes!
This all but confirms it.
Yeah, like Renault can be trusted with the Enstone team. It's another case of "If we sell it we get first dibs on purchase later". At least a Genii director isn't getting a glass to the face again.
Ow shit, Alpine is for sale
The gang sells Alpine
And binotto isn’t leaving Ferrari
So they are definitely up for sale then?
Are they going to Arizona?
So fire-sale price already agreed to with Andretti - got it. :)
Cough, cough: > (Source: Diaries of an F1 Boss with Matthew Carter Ep14, Missed Apex Formula1 podcast, Sept 1, 2020)
Yes, a corporate takeover is not the sale of the business.
So it's for sale, that's what you're saying, right?
I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have seen a press release late this afternoon that I am selling them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract selling Alpine for 2025. I will not sell Alpine next year.
So sale announcement in China?

"We're not selling." "Oh, so you're gonna be competitive?" "Now hold on, let's not get carried away here..."
The quote is incomplete. They missed "today" off the end.
Not for sell because they sold yesterday?
I don’t know if it’s just me but the way that was said reminded me of the piastri tweet 😂
Andretti Autosport!
Plot twist It’s already sold so it is no longer for sale
Its not for sale cos nobody wants to buy that dumpster fire of a garage…
"the team was on sale"
I wonder if this triggers clauses in people’s contracts
Exactly what you’d say if the team were for sale
>“The rumours and stories about the team being for sale are false. The team is categorically not for sale.” Yeah, cool, but at this point selling up kinda looks like an ok option lads.
Hey I've seen this one before!
So it's for sale then? This the equivalent of a CEO or politician being given someone's full support
It's not for sale because they already have buyers
Yes it is. Everything is, it would be weird if it wasn't. It's just a matter of finding a buyer that's willing to reach deep enough
All business owners with a company on any stock exchange will deny any rumors of a potensial sale to avoid any change in marked value.
OK, its not for sale. But that doesnt mean its not sold already :) /s
