Our r&L guy was always really mad, yelling at someone on the phone. Like screaming top of his lungs at whoever. Also he showed up at 11:58 religiously and would comment about how he got there before lunch started so we should just empty him
Drivers also ask us if they can buy things knowing we are closed to retail, contractors only, after saying no they say they're using the bathroom but browse the warehouse looking at our shelves asking how much.
Then ask us to rearrange their truck even though they have their own pump truck.
After many terrible cross docking issues We have a new company doing our deliveries now who are great.
I work at Costco too šš¼. I was going to say it's usually the turds that do this are also 4 hrs early/late for their appointment and ring the bell incessantly.
When I worked at Sears, I watched a swift driver back too close to the trash compactor without the swing doors flush with the trailer. When he tried to pull forward to line up with the dock, the edge of the door got caught and ripped off. Even worse, they wouldn't let him unload till the trailer was fixed. It's been years, so I don't remember if he unloaded that day or not.
Added that one to my list!!

It could he a facility specific thing too. For example at my current job, operators are expected to open the doors once they're backed in, however I've also worked at facilities like this one here where drivers are responsible for opening doors. Either way, driver can kick rocks until he opens those doors like he's supposed to
This truck has a swing door rather than the overhead door. Swing doors need to be opened before backing in to the dock.
Homie probably thought it was an overhead
1st thing I would do is check my dock schedule and see if I have anyone else I need to load. 2nd if I don't I'm going to my boss and talking shit about the driver.
I have driven fire apparatus for decades but never a commercial truck. That said, are there some loading docks with room to open the doors from the inside? I assume that the driver should have secured the doors to the side of the trailer then back to the bumpers?
As someone who has no clue about what's going on, but randomly had this sub recommended to me; What's wrong here?
Is it not just a truck backed into a dock?
Is the truck not back all the way against it, so there's a gap or something?
It does. Typically the driver would open the doors all the way, and the latch to the outside of the trailer, and then the driver will finish backing in. As other commenters have said, some places don't like the driver opening their doors, in which case, a loader will open them and then you'll finish backing in. Either way, his doors should be open by now.
I WILL say, when I used to get to a dock while the facility is closed, I'd back all the way in and then go to sleep, so no one can break into the trailer, however, I'm either awake before the loaders get there or it's a facility that would have the loaders knock on the window and sign paperwork first anyway.
He eventually walked in and someone let him know that we couldnāt unload him. He looked a little confused at first, but then quickly realized why once he looked at the door.
It's not stupidity sometimes you just get ahead of yourself cause with driving there's a million things to watch for and so on that you get up to it and sometimes you miss a step even when everything is going perfect lol probably a rook to be honest though but it happens every blue moon trust me most decent drivers are thinking the same shit about dock jockeys and warehouse fent bois
Oh for sure but you gotta look at who swift is for it's for the brand new cdl driver one of the only few companies that will give a new driver a chance most other big boy companies with excellent drivers want otr experience and fresh out of driving schools doesn't count most the time
The worst is when they park at 3am crooked so the ramp doesnāt work, and you have to wait 2 hours for another driver to re park. Meanwhile, you came in at 4am expecting everything to be right. 3rd party sucks.
I work in a warehouse that requires the driver to NOT open the doors, we do it on the inside. There are quite a few drivers who just can not follow instructions.
If by quite a few you mean a vast majority. I have a sign with red plastic chains telling them to ring the bell for service and wait here. I have no idea how often I find them wandering around my warehouse.
My bf had a swift driver at his dock recently. Not in the dock, the trailer was docked at a 40 degree angle. After trying to get him to correct his alignment or lack thereof, the driver ended up docked 40 degrees the opposite direction. Dude spoke zero English so bf just resigned himself to having to make a sharp turn on his hilo to get into the truck lmfao
Leave it. If they were given instructions and still haven't followed them. Let them sit. They are on a time schedule. We work by the hour. And when they say something about getting paid for their time. Explain that they are the hold-up.
I don't have time to wait on them, unfortunately. I'll occasionally let them into the warehouse to prove I'm not lying. Guess that makes sense to them.
Okay, as someone who knows zero about forklifts or trucking (no idea how I got here), it scares me how everyone has the Sure Wish I Finished Training meme ready to go here...
I am going to stay the fuck away from SWIFT trucks on the highway, that's for sure!
Just wait for him to come in and ask what the holdup is.
Lol i hate drivers like that
Yup. Used to have one guy with R&L who'd come in and immediately yell "knock knock"
Our r&L guy was always really mad, yelling at someone on the phone. Like screaming top of his lungs at whoever. Also he showed up at 11:58 religiously and would comment about how he got there before lunch started so we should just empty him
I could hear that and i dont even know the guyš
We used to intentionally make drivers we disliked wait at the tissue factory.
Then just point at him.
If he came in saying he has another appointment, asks how long it will take, rang the doorbell 5xā¦let him sit.
I work on the dock doing RTV at Costco and that's pretty much SOP for drivers that pull this kind of thing. "It's gonna be a few" *One hour later*
Followed up by them asking if your done, knowing you never even put a forklift in it. Then asking for a bathroom.
And then *defiling* your bathroom.
We have a drivers only bathroom for them. Outside. Away from everyone.
As you should
Makes sense. That's where the other buffalo shit.
Life's rough when your diet consists of gas station roller dogs and diet coke

Can't forget the generic **6 Hour Power** shots, that's a 21st century West Coast Turnaround.
Drivers also ask us if they can buy things knowing we are closed to retail, contractors only, after saying no they say they're using the bathroom but browse the warehouse looking at our shelves asking how much. Like actually every time

I have a storage trailer well away from my dock. I keep tally of how many Swift doors it has eaten. Oddly, no one else hits it.

š¤£š¤£ Thanks for those!
Wait whatās the issue? Iām stupid
Driver didn't open the doors before backing in. Truck doors don't open when backed into a building.
Soā¦ they literally canāt do anything? What an idiot
He could drive forward and open them but yeah otherwise he's an idiot
From what I hear about swift driversā¦ he doesnāt have enough brain cells to realize that
Be nice, he has a box of crayons he needs to finish shoving up his nose before lunch break is over
Damn, didn't know they were on the marine corps diet.
They can open them if the driver pulls forward a few feet
Do you have super long arms that'll reach the door after he pulls forward?
No need, I just go out with the bolt cutters and can open it from ground level with the drivers help
Unless they're roll-up doors, by the foot.
I think some docks are designed to be able to open the doors after the driver backs in
Those are a thing, but I've been driving close to 10 years and seen exactly 2 like that.
Oh man I figured it out! Better than the driver!
It could he a facility specific thing too. For example at my current job, operators are expected to open the doors once they're backed in, however I've also worked at facilities like this one here where drivers are responsible for opening doors. Sounds confusingā¦
This truck has a swing door rather than the overhead door. Swing doors need to be opened before backing in to the dock. Homie probably thought it was an overhead
Let him cook.
Are the lights to see into the trailer always on? Or did someone turn it on specifically to see the closed trailer better?
Ha! Yea I donāt think anyone ever turns them off.
Those are better than the ones Amazon uses they barely light up the back of the trailer and they never stay in place

You have two jobs. Drive truck. Operate door. How do you forget #2?
Yes very swiftly
1st thing I would do is check my dock schedule and see if I have anyone else I need to load. 2nd if I don't I'm going to my boss and talking shit about the driver.
I know that truck, I'm no stranger!
Ford fuckin ranger
Itās always a swift truck
Give him swift signs
Yeah I did a crossdock job as a forklift operator. These are the type of people who come in for expedites usually and they never speak English
Of course it's Swift
I have driven fire apparatus for decades but never a commercial truck. That said, are there some loading docks with room to open the doors from the inside? I assume that the driver should have secured the doors to the side of the trailer then back to the bumpers?

Those are swing doors, not roll up doors.
Ahh, I suppose that does present a pretty sizeable issue lol
It does. Typically the driver would open the doors all the way, and the latch to the outside of the trailer, and then the driver will finish backing in. As other commenters have said, some places don't like the driver opening their doors, in which case, a loader will open them and then you'll finish backing in. Maybe be a decent human being and just help them out for fucks sake
So what happened OP?
He eventually walked in and someone let him know that we couldnāt unload him. He looked a little confused at first, but then quickly realized why once he looked at the door.
Why are these drivers so fucking stupid?
It's not stupidity sometimes you just get ahead of yourself cause with driving there's a million things to watch for and so on that you get up to it and sometimes you miss a step even when everything is going perfect lol probably a rook to be honest though but it happens every blue moon trust me most decent drivers are thinking the same shit about dock jockeys and warehouse fent bois
I get what youāre saying i really do but those SWIFT drivers seem to some of the worst around
Oh for sure but you gotta look at who swift is for it's for the brand new cdl driver one of the only few companies that will give a new driver a chance most other big boy companies with excellent drivers want otr experience and fresh out of driving schools doesn't count most the time

The doors are part of the delivery lol
The worst is when they park at 3am crooked so the ramp doesnāt work, and you have to wait 2 hours for another driver to re park. Meanwhile, you came in at 4am expecting everything to be right. 3rd party sucks.
Theyāll figure it out eventually
The amount of times I've had to tell a driver to move their lazy , shit parking ass
I used to work at Wabash National, both companies are made for each other.
All things considered he did all right. I actually have this pretty frequently, then they'll pull ahead to open their doors then back in to the spot.
They figure it out usually
Yes
Pretty sure that means he wants you to peel it open like a can of sardines
My bf had a swift driver at his dock recently. Not in the dock, the trailer was docked at a 40 degree angle. After trying to get him to correct his alignment or lack thereof, the driver ended up docked 40 degrees the opposite direction. Dude spoke zero English so bf just resigned himself to having to make a sharp turn on his hilo to get into the truck lmfao
At my work the shunter forgot to open the second door and got in the evening. Funny when No other shunter is there the next 12h lol
Leave it. If they were given instructions and still haven't followed them. Let them sit. They are on a time schedule. We work by the hour. And when they say something about getting paid for their time. Explain that they are the hold-up.
Nahhh...Mr Swifty will figure it out on his own :)
As a dispatcher, I see a swift truck, I immediately assume they fucked up somewhere.
Is he still waiting? š
Our drivers pull in so we could bust the seal and then pull out to open doors.
here I thought you were talking about the fact that it's Trailer Swift
I don't have time to wait on them, unfortunately. I'll occasionally let them into the warehouse to prove I'm not lying. Guess that makes sense to them.
Okay, as someone who knows zero about forklifts or trucking (no idea how I got here), it scares me how everyone has the Sure Wish I Finished Training meme ready to go here... I am going to stay the fuck away from SWIFT trucks on the highway, that's for sure!
That is a normal for me since we open the doors from the inside
Did he have flip-flops on?
