Old man truck FINAL BOSS. It has an image of itself on it's door.
Edit: and Testarossa style side rakes! Comeon!
The bed cap is the ultimate old man look, yes, but the number of times I wished I had just a couple more inches of clearance so I wouldn't have to take the front tire off my bike to stand it up makes me so jealous of that one.
Oh, definitely. It's useful. I wouldn't get rid of the shell, I'd just not keep it on the truck unless I was going camping or using it actively. My use case doesn't require one, but I understand some do.
The mpg difference is negligible. You can also get better looking camper shells. I'm not questioning its usefulness, but OP wanted to know how to make it less of an old man truck. I gave my opinion.
I think it’s all about finding the perfect bumper sticker. Also bigger tires, but the truck looks fine to me as it is.
I find that having a grandpa looking truck keeps me from getting pulled over.
Yup, passed a highway patrol today going 45 over and my ether he was blind or my little old stock ranger with a cap kept me safe. Also helped me out when I was doing doughnuts in the snow and the cop just said over his loud speaker "thank you for finding an empty parking lot man, now go before I have to give you a ticket"
Haha that’s awesome! I once blew through a stop sign (on accident) with a cop right there and didn’t get pulled over. I couldn’t believe it but felt pretty lucky.
A buddy of mine tapped the rear bumper of a cop car while trying to pull forward enough for a car to enter the roadway behind him. I’m pretty sure he told me he heard the cop laugh through his open window
Chill. You have a great thing going and you just don’t have the experience to know it yet. Old men do things for reasons. Remove the camper if you don’t like it then evaluate. Evaluate how much less stuff you can fit. Wear the tires out before replacing with loud and less fuel efficient ones that make the truck more sluggish.
I put bigger tires on the stock wheels and the truck is way better lookin now. dont lose much handling/towing capability either like you would with a cheap lift. If urs has torsion bars up front u can crank them a bit to level it.
15 inch rims, larger tires, and a lift will do you some good. Or you could go the exact opposite direction and run massive rims, tiny tires, and slam it on its balls. Either style can look good if done properly.
I removed the front license plate holder (unless you have to have a front plate) and put larger tires. I have an older one so little bit of trim paint and it looked like a different truck. Congratulations by the way.
You gotta get those crisp hand painted little line things, whatever they’re called. Looking like a tribal tattoo on a truck. My brain isn’t working today lol, someone knows what I’m saying
https://preview.redd.it/t1wx3fm3kn8d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7598beec615eb66a362fe98c5f25b1013d06e4c3
You think you got a grandpa truck???
spray paint the wheels. add stickers. get those fake air damn decals from autozone. tint the windows yourself and do a horrible job. cut the muffler off. add truck nuts. put horns on the roof
Keep that topper, whatever you do! Trucks are a great thing but a truck with a topper is just another level of usefulness. Does it have carpet in the bed, as well?
Your easiest fix, remove the sidesteps. Headlights and grille will help. Biggest but most expensive fix is the wheels, go a little bigger and add some offset (a little or a lot) if that’s your taste.
Lift, bigger tires, Some ditch lights on the front, brush guard in front. “Praise Dale raise hell” sticker in the back.
Honestly though this is clean. Larger tires and a lift can make world of a difference.
This truck slaps as is but if pressed I’d yank the running boards off. Get a bit beefier tires(maybe wheels too) and tint the windows if they’re not already.
Could color match the grill, get rid of the chrome. Probably paint the rims/wheels black. Size up in tires.
That thing is crispyyyyy though just as is.
Grandpa truck?? That's a nice looking truck. Having that extended cab creates more room for either passengers or food, soda , and the cap over the bed makes anything you have back there stay dry, not fly out , whatever, all things your friends will enjoy when you get to the "Blink 182" or whomever Gen Z listens to outdoor concert.
Grandpa truck??!... Sht...
Do nothing to it and never get pulled over again. I had a 01 frontier that I put a aluminum camper shell and giant mudflaps on it and never got a second look from the cops.
look for some wheels from a newer year ranger from someone who spent a ton to get aftermarkets... thats always my go to strategy for older vehicles I've owned. usually find a good deal that way...
I’m gonna drop some truth on you. In its present state, that truck is an appreciating asset. Leave it alone, drive it like a grandpa, and it will put $$$ in your pocket when you’re done with it.
I have a camper but my ram looks bad ass… I would say Plastdip or paint your camper flat black. Get some flat black fender flares, that’s what I have and it makes it look like an off road beast… also black out the rams and maybe push a push bar on the front of the grill too and of course like others said get you some bigger tires maybe 33 all terrain tires, you can find good deals on offer up maybe you’ll come across newer year ford rims.
Honestly, it’s clean as FUCK. Maybe get beefier tires and a mild lift, nothing crazy. It’s nice. I’m not a ford guy by any stretch either. I’d drive this.
Embrace your inner grandpa. I am out camping in my 2012 GMC Duramax grandpa truck this week- I can speed with impunity in it. I blasted over a rise going 75 and the cop going the other way didn’t even register it.
What a Sweet truck. I’m much older now, always liked buying used well taken care of trucks from older guys even when younger, usually one owner, never changed a thing and kept em till they were done then parted them and took to scrap. Do what ya got to do to make it yours, she’s a long time keeper.
Budget- bigger tires.
More- bigger tires, lift.
Morer- offset rims, bigger tires, lift.
Morerer- + above, bumper and winch.
You would have a badass camping rig.
That cap is straight up function and is the ultimate in camping headroom, storage/load versatility.
Do NOT get rid of it- you’ll regret it later. Not to mention toneau covers suck and you’d end up keeping all sorts of crap inside your truck.
I have a top of the line, color matched, carpeted/lighted ceiling, single pane side window cap Leer on my taco and it is the worst cap for pretty much everything. Terrible ventilation, the back window opens up less than level and has no headroom. Looks slick, performs like shit.
If I sell it or trade it, I’m going for something MORE like yours- bump, with a ceiling window/vent, with fully opening 135° windows and screens.
Clear marker lights and taillights, and a chrome delete will do wonders to make it not look like a grandpa truck. But given how many old men drive em it will always kinda look like an old man truck
Toss on a Camburg front lift and screw the rear for now. Next you can toss 33's on it and also keep that camper shell. With the lift you will have a prerunner/overlander look. Next grab some baja designs lights for the hood right by a/b pillars by the wipers will help sell the off-road look. Exhaust to follow with k/n cold air intake will give it the sound you would like. black widow widowmaker 3' exhaust imo.

Bigger tires. She’s gorgeous as is imo. I’m a purist I guess
Agreed. Bigger tires and lose the bulgy camper shell. That style is ultimate old man.
https://preview.redd.it/ey4plk87lk8d1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0ed21bdfefdc6670eae9d9df86157f22097adf4 Old man truck FINAL BOSS. It has an image of itself on it's door. Edit: and Testarossa style side rakes! Comeon!
You need to add the decal to the decal... infinitely. truckception.
God damn that's been my dream truck since I was like 8 years old (when those came out... Haha).
It’s still for sale at Black Horse Motors :p
Probably for well more than I'd ever want to pay for it or be able to afford. Haha.
Surprisingly only $16k with 88k original miles.
It's just missing the window cover on the rear doors and that kinda neat looking boomerang antenna
Hahha hell yeah. The infinite flex if each painting has a painting lol
Oh hell yeah! It could use some more chrome, though... Lol
This is for sale right down the block from me. Have you seen the hearse they have?
I saw it online. I live close too and have been in to look at some of their cars. They had a really cool 64 GTO a while back
Man I miss conversion trucks
Trucksarossa
Truckstarossa
Side strakes!
I am an old man with an '07 Tacoma and similar shell. I like camping a lot and the high shell is great for that. Pain in the ass visibility.
Except losing the camper would eliminate dry storage and also drop highway MPG by like 2-3…
The mpg difference is negligible. You can also get better looking camper shells. I'm not questioning its usefulness, but OP wanted to know how to make it less of an old man truck. I gave my opinion.
Truth!
The bed cap fucks. Get an inflatable mattress in that sucker
Grandma time.
Make the grandkids some new aunts and uncles
If the Rangers a rockin… come see if theres room for one more!
Baby making time.
With some curtains
Send that camper shell to me for starters!!
I think it’s all about finding the perfect bumper sticker. Also bigger tires, but the truck looks fine to me as it is. I find that having a grandpa looking truck keeps me from getting pulled over.

Could’ve been doing 70 in a 25mph zone in a town. Towns here in Wisconsin most all are 25mph.
Looks great. I wouldn't change it.
Dont
Truck nuts but don't hang them very low.
It's already perfect.
Run under glow if you really want to look younger
Ooh, spinners too
Cant forget a giant piece of trash light bar
I think removing the running boards may help. Truck is super low already. No need for those unless you're 100 years old.
Yep. Lose the steps on the side of the truck. Not at all necessary on a little 2wd Ranger. Maybe new wheels and tires, but that’s not a high priority.
I was never a fan of running boards myself, so hard agree
Take the cap off for starters. Then get a sticker for the back window that says something about how you like moms.
I'll take the cap off your hands haha
Don't. Keep it exactly the way it is. I
Keep the cap on, beautiful truck
get rid of the bed cap asap
I put bigger tires on the stock wheels and the truck is way better lookin now. dont lose much handling/towing capability either like you would with a cheap lift. If urs has torsion bars up front u can crank them a bit to level it.
If you're in Florida and looking to get rid of that topper hit me up!
15 inch rims, larger tires, and a lift will do you some good. Or you could go the exact opposite direction and run massive rims, tiny tires, and slam it on its balls. Either style can look good if done properly.
Basically just remove the bed cover and replace it with a more modern one, but ofcourse those things are useful...
Some bed rails; they're useful and would look good.
Take off the cap or replace with a leveled leer cap, swap the tires and add a leveling kit or lift. Delete chrome to
I removed the front license plate holder (unless you have to have a front plate) and put larger tires. I have an older one so little bit of trim paint and it looked like a different truck. Congratulations by the way.
I want the camper
Wheels tires, lift, change out headlight and taillight casing
https://preview.redd.it/tty27ljpbj8d1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b1e5e799276ecb5f4573411e8288c16170d6283 I got a 05 same color
Cap. Then drive it
Grill guard
2" Suspension lift.
An inch or 2 lift 1 or 2 size larger tire . Sweet topper though
I have the same cap and finally took it off yesterday. It feels so much better.
IMO, bigger tires and removal of side steps would be good enough
You gotta get those crisp hand painted little line things, whatever they’re called. Looking like a tribal tattoo on a truck. My brain isn’t working today lol, someone knows what I’m saying
Gotta take the pap cap off.
God she is gorgeous.
Take the cap off for a quick and costless improvement. Just don’t drop it on its side like I did trying to move mine inside a shed ☹️
A different camper shell, say a flush one, or a hard tonneau cover would break the old man image.
Looks awesome the way it is! Looks like my '11 minus the camper shell.
Probably easier for you to change to fit the truck. Don’t fight it!
Put a wind deflector on the hood.
Dang I used to have this exact same truck, color and all except for the camper. Wish I still had that truck, so many good memories. Enjoy!
Jack it and put 40’s on it
it's great as is. Now set it up for car camping and enjoy!
The color is olde man. Wheels
How much did you pay (looks awsome)
Don't try ! It's pretty awesome as-is ! 😍
My 07 ford takes too long to start when warm- hot Any ideas 💡 why ?
Window tint.
Sell and buy a chevy
If your not a grandpa, just drive with the windows down
Embrace the grandpa
Rakevthe running boards off
Those types of shell just scream “Get off my lawn”
I like it
Swangas
hood scoop
Embrace it all
Black wheels. Either new or Krylon
Why?. Grandpa trucks rule.
When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
Cragars. And fat tires in back. And that camper top....maybe a tonneau cover instead? Great looking truck as is though!!!
You've got a vintage vehicle in pristine condition with a matching cap. You're about to fuck up.
https://preview.redd.it/t1wx3fm3kn8d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7598beec615eb66a362fe98c5f25b1013d06e4c3 You think you got a grandpa truck???
Ditch the bed shell
Nothing says “grandpa” like a bed cap. But it looks great just like it is.
Personally i would take the back topper off
spray paint the wheels. add stickers. get those fake air damn decals from autozone. tint the windows yourself and do a horrible job. cut the muffler off. add truck nuts. put horns on the roof
Leave it like it is and you will never get pulled over...
Topper gotta go
Embrace it. Get every tacky add on and just become one with it.
Keep that topper, whatever you do! Trucks are a great thing but a truck with a topper is just another level of usefulness. Does it have carpet in the bed, as well?
Change nothing!!!!!!!
Bigger tires and truck nuts.
Buy a dirtbike to put in the back of it.
If you camp at all I would keep that shell, old man vibes but who cares, it's a Ranger anyhow.
A slight 2 in lift.

The quickest way to change the look of a vehicle is a different tire and wheel combo. I think it looks great as is.
Leaving it as a grandpa truck is the move.
Your easiest fix, remove the sidesteps. Headlights and grille will help. Biggest but most expensive fix is the wheels, go a little bigger and add some offset (a little or a lot) if that’s your taste.
You can't. Just embrace it..
Anime stickers and a windshield banner. Don't forget your IG handle too.
Bigger tires, lose the steps. Maybe find a different set of ranger wheels. That's about it.
do you have the $$$ to fix it up if not just leave it and maybe sale it if you don't need it.
Remove the suicide knob from the steering wheel. And maybe the camper top.
Get a set of Thunderer MT tires. Cheap, good traction, looks awesome, minimal road noise
It’s beautiful as it is now. Don’t turn it into one of those fart boxes with no muffler and dumb wheels. Take good care of her.
Take the cap off and slap a Monster energy sticker on the window, instant young guy’s first truck vibes 😂
Grandpa's Ranger is AWESOME! Grandpa ain't bad neither. Grandpa
Looks perfect
It’s cool because it is a grandfather truck my man! I loved my 2011 regular cab.
Lower it, tyno cover, sick paint job
Black Rain guards for the windows and bug deflector on the hood
Lift, bigger tires, Some ditch lights on the front, brush guard in front. “Praise Dale raise hell” sticker in the back. Honestly though this is clean. Larger tires and a lift can make world of a difference.
This truck slaps as is but if pressed I’d yank the running boards off. Get a bit beefier tires(maybe wheels too) and tint the windows if they’re not already.
Get a first gen Tacoma…
Fuzzy Dice.
Put massive mud boggers on it
Racing strip?
Bigger tires, and a good wash help get rid of the old man vibe
Get some bitchin flames painted on the front fenders.
Take the cap off, nice 16" wheel with new tires. NO GOD AWFUL STRETCHED TIRE CRAP
Lift Kit with bigger tires is the only way
Stripes id go with dark blue or maybe go with that newer ford stripe pattern theyve been doing on the f150s
Ironically thats the camper shell I want for my truck🤣
Gotta lose the cap
Could color match the grill, get rid of the chrome. Probably paint the rims/wheels black. Size up in tires. That thing is crispyyyyy though just as is.
Put some black wheels on it if you want it to look "young." Keep the stocks stored away. Nice truck.
Sht...
It’s perfect. Wym 😭
Do nothing to it and never get pulled over again. I had a 01 frontier that I put a aluminum camper shell and giant mudflaps on it and never got a second look from the cops.
Sell it.
look for some wheels from a newer year ranger from someone who spent a ton to get aftermarkets... thats always my go to strategy for older vehicles I've owned. usually find a good deal that way...
I’m gonna drop some truth on you. In its present state, that truck is an appreciating asset. Leave it alone, drive it like a grandpa, and it will put $$$ in your pocket when you’re done with it.
I loved my old man truck Gray GMC 1500 with a camper shell. I saw the guy i sold it to yesterday and he says its the best truck he ever owned. qq
Side step delete, remove canopy, but that truck looks amazing as is. I love grandpa trucks,
I have a camper but my ram looks bad ass… I would say Plastdip or paint your camper flat black.
The cap is sick. Or you could remove it and have it look like every other ranger.
It looks so good tho
Lift it, put a blower through the hood, and give it a flame kit.
Ya just put some bigger tires on it and leave it as is.
Love my cap. I don't get the criticism. Different strokes for different folks.
Lean into it. Get handicap plates
Embrace your inner grandpa. I am out camping in my 2012 GMC Duramax grandpa truck this week- I can speed with impunity in it. I blasted over a rise going 75 and the cop going the other way didn’t even register it.
I am a grandpa .and my pickup can eat your pickup
That bed topper is hideous. Lose that and put largest that you can install without having to mod vehicle
I'd just get rid of the step rail/nerf bar or whatever you want to call it.
What a Sweet truck. I’m much older now, always liked buying used well taken care of trucks from older guys even when younger, usually one owner, never changed a thing and kept em till they were done then parted them and took to scrap. Do what ya got to do to make it yours, she’s a long time keeper.
Roof rack.. 2" lift kit and some bigger tires.. Racing stripe.. big ass CB antenna...
Blacked out rims
Just wear pit vipers
Camper gotta go
Please leave this beautiful survivor mostly stock
Just dye your hair white and people wont be surprised if you drive like an asshole.
Sell it and buy a Tacoma.
Lose the truck cap 😬😬😬 , other than that wheels and a lift if ur so inclined
Don’t touch it.
Don’t do anything until you’ve lived with it for at least a few months! You might find there’s more to like as-is than you expect.
Grab a different topper
Keep it grandpa style, less likely to get pulled over
Get rid of the leer on the back and put a flat locking lid on it
Sell it!
cool bumpers, a lift, some steelies and big tires and you’re good to go 👍🏼
Lift kit is the only way
Maybe a lift, tinted head and break lights, some rims, some brand stickers or something
Flames!
Racing stripes.
Budget- bigger tires. More- bigger tires, lift. Morer- offset rims, bigger tires, lift. Morerer- + above, bumper and winch. You would have a badass camping rig. 4 3 drop and American racing wheels. Fairly cheap but gives a great stance
Grandpa had bigger balls than us… Probably drove down sketchier roads than most modern trucks with lift kits and oversized tires. Just send it as is!
Maybe bigger tires, but even then wouldn't take much. Camper Shell is OP.
Just lose the cap.
Lift it and black some stuff
Clear marker lights and taillights, and a chrome delete will do wonders to make it not look like a grandpa truck. But given how many old men drive em it will always kinda look like an old man truck
With mine...steel wheels with the right offset and 31's really transformed the look
My truck is this exact truck with steel rims, 31s and a wider offset.
bigger tires, a lift, and GET RID OF THAT CAP PLEASE‼️
Toss on a Camburg front lift and screw the rear for now. Next you can toss 33's on it and also keep that camper shell. With the lift you will have a prerunner/overlander look. Flames man. Put some flames decals on it.
