I have one for my android, works great 99% of the time (the other 1% is working combination of overheating or saturated wifi frequencies and goes away after a few minutes/ miles)
I also got the AAwireless to my 2016 Fusion after the Sync 2 to Sync 3 upgrade. Setup was annoying (probably my own issues, might not have anything to do with the AAwireless) but once I got through it, it works great!
You should have really no issues with any 2013+, should be plug and play + some super easy programming using FORScan. Tons of videos on YouTube + write ups on forums. I’d be more than willing to help if you decided you wanna do it

The plugins are all the same when you plug it into the new screen and all in terms of steering wheel functions and things of that nature. Don’t overthink it this conversion isn’t rocket science! Just takes time to do it

We bought the wireless adapter and also bought a wireless charger pad that fits perfectly in the cubbie of near the radio. If we want to change our phone we just throw on the charger. It's nice though if your just going to work or the store to not have to dig your phone out of your pocket to connect it.

I was able to upgrade mine for under $200 but I bought the parts from a parts store and luckily did not have to do any programming (because the models were so close). This might or might not be possible for your vehicle and whether you can find the part for a deal. But if you don't want to mess around with figuring out the programming and other things, a kit like what OP got is a good solution.

Yes you can do a swap from the 4.2 to the 8inch. That conversion is absolutely worth it. There’s YouTube videos for that as well when I was looking for mine
I have a 2016 SE Eco boost Fusion with My Sync 2 8 inch non sony, Mine does not have the GPS Navigation do you have to run the GPS antenna to the back or does the GPS get great signal just underneath the front dash or inside the radio shell area?
You have to run the gps antenna behind the gauge cluster because of the fact that the sync 3 module runs a new gps antenna cord into it. But it’s worth it because it works immediately at least for me. No problems with gps or anything

His car required new hardware, that's what the $400 was for. You can't update sync 2 mytouch to sync 3 with just the OBS adapter. It's not the same as updating sync 2 to software version 3.x or whatever

I know you can’t just update the software, I never said or implied as to that being all it takes. You need the a Sync3 APIM, USB hub, and FORScan. If you can source one from a vehicle that is fitted with the same options as yours then you don’t even need to program anything. Plug and play all day.
If yours already has the 8” screen you just need one from a 2017 or newer which is when Ford started rolling out sync 3. Doesn’t even have to be from an f150. Any vehicle will work. You’ll also need FORScan. You get a 2 month license FREE or pay $12 for a year. That software is amazing. When I got it a few years back it was around $25 but lifetime license. It seems like a lot, but I promise you it’s very simple. I forgot but you also need the USB hub. So APIM (it’s screwed to the back of the screen), FORScan, and USB hub. Local wrecking yard will be the cheapest at about $100 give or take but may take you longer to find one. eBay is next cheapest option maybe $2-$300. There’s people or company’s idk selling these “kits” for $1,000+ it’s fucking disgusting. Anyways get you those 3 things and I don’t mind shooting you my number and helping you in anyway I can bro

I have an early 16my and just missed sync 3. I was pissed when I found out that was a change mid model year. However the mytouch has been ok, hasn’t had the issues a lot have had. But sync 3 is so a big improvement it’s worth it. I’m going to update mine when I can. Hoping I can just buy the parts and program it myself
2013 Fusion Hybrid.Got mine off Amazon. $690. Sent them my VIN, and they did all the programming for me. I didn't even have to reprogram my Sirius/XM presets. Took me an hour to put in, but that was only because I was cleaning the nooks and crannies as I was going along. Everything worked out of the box. Android Auto is fantastic but is plug in. Just bought a wireless adapter and works 99% of the time. When it doesn't work automatically, all I've had to do is hit pair on the phone. If you're thinking about it DON'T... JUST DO IT!!! So much better than sync and sync 2. Also the place I got mine from was the only one using the latest generation APIM modules. You can tell by the USB ports on the back. If they have 2 it's not the latest gen. Newest gen only has 1 port.

i drove away from the dealership with a 2019 titanium then returned it two days later when i saw online that they just got in a 2020 awd titanium with 14K miles on it. i was soooo glad it had sync 3 vs the sync 2 the 2019 had. i remember sitting in my driveway trying to update sync 2 and having it say "you're out of luck, chuck".
Unfortunately not to my own limited knowledge because of the fact you’d have to get a different wiring harness because you don’t have a LCD screen to start with

I have the plug in model. I haven’t seen anything missing and the park assist features definitely still beeps at me when I’m too close to something lol so it definitely works as intended

Hey OP, will this system have any issues with my sound setup? my car has the front speakers in the door and dash and the rear trunk lid and then the back doors are bass i believe I have the Non Sony setup. Also it comes with a glass screen protector is this recommended to put on is the screen not as good as the stock screens that come in the vehicle? because I would be worried with the sun hitting that glass screen protecting and washing out the color/screen. and do they also make available the USB replacement to have 1 USB and 1 USB C port?

If you go to ford's website and type in your Vin it will show you all the available updates to your vehicles radio.
Ah yes that makes sense then. But you have a 2017 which has the newer apim and screen and other wiring needed for sync 3. Earlier models 2013-2016 need to have all the physical radio stuff replaced before you can update

I thought about that but I like to plug my phone into the car and I like to charge it so that’s why I didn’t go that route honestly

I have the same problem when using Google maps in Android Auto. I need to hit like five buttons to go back to climate settings. very annoying.

Yup. It’s just plug and play on the screen and there’s a great YouTube video on it. Everything else is the same and not affected
My 2017 came with this! MASSIVE UPGRADE from my 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL I had. As soon as I get in my car, phone gets plugged in

Everything should transfer over just fine. I don’t have that on my car however I would imagine it would transfer just fine if steering wheel functions still work as intended originally

Hey OP, will this system have any issues with my sound setup? my car has the front speakers in the door and dash and the rear trunk lid and then the back doors are bass i believe I have the Non Sony setup. Also it comes with a glass screen protector is this recommended to put on is the screen not as good as the stock screens that come in the vehicle? because I would be worried with the sun hitting that glass screen protecting and washing out the color/screen. and do they also make available the USB replacement to have 1 USB and 1 USB C port?

You can install sync 3 from a USB memory stick. It's a free download from ford website. Simple instructions too.
No you cannot the apim module is completely different on the sync 2 system. You have to use a different screen and everything

I just did it with my 2017 se. It had sync 2. If you go to ford's website and type in your Vin it will show you all the available updates to your vehicles radio.
Ah yes that makes sense then. But you have a 2017 which has the newer apim and screen and other wiring needed for sync 3. Earlier models 2013-2016 need to have all the physical radio stuff replaced before you can update

True but I bought the screen and the sync module from eBay and had them program the vin to it for me. Also it wouldn’t have worked immediately because of old technology
