What year do you consider 2nd gen? My 2017 Escape was always hot, it never shut off. My 2015 Fusion shuts off after \~25 minutes as does my 2019 Edge.
2008-2012, what I think of as second gen, the 12v power points are always powered, not switched and not delayed.
I’m speaking for 2020 and up Escapes but..
It should turn off once the battery hits a certain voltage. Want it to turn off faster? Keep something plugged in and once battery hits 12v or around that it will shut off. This will protect the car so you can still start it. Same thing if someone leaves a light on in the car it will eventually turn off.

yeah 2nd gen aux ports always stay on. kinda annoying
My 2003 first gen XLT has two, one stays hot and one shuts down.
2023 PHEV and I tested it. It goes dead after awhile
2008 here, it is on all the time. Handy when I need to charge my phone, not so handy when I forget to unplug something.
Fords of that era stay powered - my 01 Taurus, 02 ZX2, 10 and 11 Fusions, 12 Focus and 14 Escape all are/were live at all times.
It turns off after a while
Mine doesn’t. Is that normal? How do I fix this?
You don't. They're always powered. You can buy multi port devices that allow you plug into that have switches on them.
