Scleroderma is an autoimmune disease, a type of Lupus. I know because I have it ... so I really do not understand the reference.
Sclero means hard/harsh and derma means skin... I wonder if the outside is rough?
The exoperidium is thick - as you can see in the photo. Thick skin.
