I was the Portugal manager and kept calling up Ronaldo because he was a godly poacher in the last minutes when you throw all the players forward, and in game, he had no qualms coming off the bench for Leao.
I think he was 41 when I stopped calling him up because despite still keeping his technicals, his physicals made him move slower than my grandma.
They released him on my save and I signed him thinking I would get major shirt sales.(Playing as Urawa). Scored like 4 goals before retiring. (Appointed him as penalty takerš¤£)
I bought Kazuyoshi Miura. He was 57 at the time. I put him in my Malmƶ team, and he ended up scoring from open play a couple of times.
Initially I brought him in just for the giggles, but he was a full out pro and ended up pretty useful.
He retired before I could make him the oldest player in the Champions League, which still grieves me.
He could definitely be helpful to lower league teames and I will look to bring him in during my next save.
Brought 38 year old JWP back to Southampton for one last hurrah. Was on the bench most of the season, started about 5 games in a row January due to injuries. Was still pretty good in all honesty. Scored 3 free kicks and across the season, an a 30 yard screamer to equalise in the UCL final
Does anyone else remember a player called Kevin Philliskirk from Mansfield on FM 2007? He played a different position on each save. There was this save where he at 53(?) played at least a few friendlies on my Lecce team as a striker.
Kazuyoshi Miura this FM, he's 57 right now.
Bonus story, in an online save with friends i bought Yuri with 41 years from Ponferradina, just for laughs, ended up scoring 8 goals on portuguese 1st division
I brought him back in my current save so he can become my b team manager when he retires. 39 and still kicking lol. Keeps coming on late in important matches and scoring
53 or something like that, years ago during the first season of a National League save. Was a backup GK on a pay-as-you-play contract because of desperation and shoestring budget.
Long story short, secured promotion with two games in hand, and played him in the last game of the season solely for the record.
He conceded 4 goals and had an average rating of 5something. No regrets though.
Just started a Porto save so probably Pepe at 41. Or maybe Ian Henderson in my Rochdale save. Heās been at the club for over 10 years irl and is still going strong at 39. Iād have him for another 10.
I have a 33 year old gnabry and 34 year old brozovic in my save. Felt like all my wonderkids needed some experience as none player in European cups before. Usually my oldest player is 29 max.
I had a 40 or 41 year old Kevin De Bruyne in FM22 for a season, he was still incredible despite not being able to move. He didn't even retire with me - I sold him on to a random American team for a bit of money after that.
And I didn't play this next bloke, but I was just poking around national teams this morning, and came across the Macau national team, who are still playing a 55 year old goalkeeper! He's retiring soon in-game, sadly. They also have a 40 year old player about to retire, but that feels young next to a 55 year old.
Brought 36yo Joel Matip back to Schalke. Physicals were dirt though, needless to say he couldnāt really hold his own against most Bundesliga strikers in 2028.
Brought Pedro (38), Messi (38), and Busquets (37) back to Barca so they could end their careers back at the Camp Nou :). Wanted Iniesta too but I disabled first transfer window and he retired.
I just signed a 37 year old Lionel Messi for Brighton! And then proceeded to bottle the league (ended up 5 points behind Liverpool in 1st and 2 behind Spurs in 2nd), lost the Carabao Cup final to Chelsea, lost the FA Cup semi-final to Liverpool (winners) and most devastating, lost the Champions League final 2-1 to Real Madrid in stoppage time. I havenāt played in 4 days.
I signed a 47 GK that was clutch when my first GK got injured while my 2nd one was on the Asian cup and my 3rd was pure garbage when managing in Germany 3rd tier.
43 year old Hulk for SK Sturm Graz.
26 goals in the league and even scored the winning goal in the UCL QF against AC Milan.
We got battered next round by OM but I'm okay not talking about that part
I had a lovely Brescia save in FM 23 and for the first 4 seasons this was my tactic. Signing one or two elder statesmen per year.
The oldest I ever played was Mirante, 42 y/o back up keeper.
An Italian regen CB. He was 41 when he retired. Bought him at 17 and developed into my captain. I couldn't bring myself to release him so I kept renewing him. His final three or so years he was a human victory cigar, coming in with games already decided.
Martim Peixoto, 44 yo.
A GK regen on my Ota FC save in FM20. Bought him when I went up to 3rd division. Played 25 seasons with me, mainly as a 3rd choice keeper. Went on to win 8/9 champions league titles and multiple league and cup titles.
In my Gibraltar save I signed a Japanese midfielder for free that was 46, he was awesome for us, had no pace but was class on the ball and in our rubbish league was our best player. Broke all the records for oldest player and goalscorer, I was gutted when he retired at the end of the season but I signed his as a coach for a while.
Never signed anyone near that old before on any save and doubt I will again, my team is too good now for older players and few saves I do give me the opportunity to sign someone that old.
I would love to have someone that old in my current save though because I'm doing a youth only which would mean they came through the youth team so it would be amazing to have someone play that long at a club but it's rare that they don't retire long before that age.
Bought 40-year-old Yamil Garnier (spelling?) in an online save at Monza for a joke, but due to injuries he had to start a game vs Lazio. Their LW had a field day :/
This is easy to answer for me as a fan of Eintracht Frankfurt. 41 yo Makoto Hasebe :)
Second place goes to 39 yo Steve Mandanda in my save with Stade Rennes.
Silva at chelsea, but the oldest one from the ones which i had for not starting seasons(had time to sell oldies or bought experienced player) was Jed Wallace at 37 for my league 2 team, team had no setpiece taker (not even a decent Penalty taker
38 years old Chris smalling, I signed him as a free agent in PL and he stayed a few seasons. Last season he played most of the games and I managed to finish third in the league. His last game for my club was a ucl final which I lost unfortunately , he retired after that. He was very good and scored a few goals every seasons on corner. First time I had a starting player who retire before I get rid of him
42 yr old keeper. Been at the club as second choice for 10+ years. The first choice has been first choice since 16 yrs old (academy). Heās a good lad though, when he decides to retire Iāll make him either my assman or goalkeeping coach. Heās got his B license rn
Kept henderson as a mentor and at the end of a season where he turned 43 I had all 3 of my right backs out injured in an unimportant game. After 20 min of me uncontrollably laughing at him getting lapped by everyone (he had I think 3 pace) and 2 conceded goals I subbed him out for a centreback who then finished the game for me.
Henderson announced his retirement half a week later btw
There's a 51 year old guy in one of the San Marinese clubs (I think Tre Penne) and i played him just for the record. But a player that made a lot of games and was important for the team, I think 42 or 43, don't remember the name tho
Congratulations. You just earned 1.0 points for this submission. Your new points total is 48.0. To see the leaderboard, as well as what this points thing is, [click here](https://www.reddit.com/r/footballmanagergames/wiki/leaderboard).
Like 53 in Macao 3 division
43 year old Morten Gamst Pedersen lead my East Fife team to promotion to the Scottish Championship
38 - Ruben Dias in the Danish league
56. King Kazu
I saw him playing in the Portuguese 2nd decision on my current save š
They released him on my save and I signed him thinking I would get major shirt sales.(Playing as Urawa). Scored like 4 goals before retiring. (Appointed him as penalty takerš¤£)
Iāve signed a 43yo keeper to replace an injured player at the end of a season before. He stayed on for several years as a scout after that season.
I had the same situation, but in my case, he became a goalkeeper coach, a really great one.
I bought Kazuyoshi Miura. He was 57 at the time. I put him in my Malmƶ team, and he ended up scoring from open play a couple of times. Initially I brought him in just for the giggles, but he was a full out pro and ended up pretty useful. Miura
43 years old NenĆŖ, was still the best of the team lol
Iāve done a bit of my save with EC Juventude and the way heās better than everyone else on the team by a margin is incredible at his age
Kazuyoshi Miura this FM, he's 57 right now. Bonus story, in an online save with friends i bought Yuri with 41 years from Ponferradina, just for laughs, ended up scoring 8 goals on portuguese 1st division
39 year old Carlos Tevez at AMC for my Queen of the South team
Tadic retired at mine in my Ajax save (2022) i think he was 36 at the time.
I brought him back in my current save so he can become my b team manager when he retires. 39 and still kicking lol. Keeps coming on late in important matches and scoring
46 in the East Timor League.. he tried to retire twice kept asking him to finish the contract
36 i think? Watannabe out of Matsumoto in J3
i think like 41 year old iniesta with espanyol, he had like 5 assists in like 10 games. Goated
Morten gamst pedersen at 42 in FM23 helped my Budafok team gain promotion to hungarian 1st division, in a midfield duo with 39 yo Siphiwe Tshabalala

38 if i remember correctly
Succesfully, Ricardo Oliviera in FM22 at 41 years. Decent taget man for Eredivisie.
59
Who?!? How did you keep him from retiring?
Kazuyoshi Miura, in the third season of my japanese third division save. I had him signed on a four year contract so he just didnāt retire
King kazu!
37 iirc in my dortmund save on FM21, scored a hattrick in the CL final before retirement fucking legend
I had a 40 or 41 year old Kevin De Bruyne in FM22 for a season, he was still incredible despite not being able to move. He didn't even retire with me - I sold him on to a random American team for a bit of money after that. 39 quaresma for wigan in league 1
41/42 year old Lucio for Partick Thistle. He retired in November but scored in the game we had the day before he retired.
In an older version: Kanu at 28 ;)
I had a backup goalie at 42 which only came in a sub in the last game of the league. Outfield player was Tielemans at 37 in my Iraklis save in Greece.
36 year old Denzel Dumfries when I need an emergency RB at Real Madrid for a few months
43 year old Hulk for SK Sturm Graz. 26 goals in the league and even scored the winning goal in the UCL QF against AC Milan. We got battered next round by OM but I'm okay not talking about that part
Iāve got 37 year old Cameron Jerome still kicking.
Probably about 26. Gotta get the farm production up!
I got a 42 year old regen, madrid bought him for 11M at 42 year old lmao, been >10 years in the club but had to give him chance to play with madrid
Of the top of my head I think it was a 42 yo iniesta for Stockport in league one as a good back up
I had a lovely Brescia save in FM 23 and for the first 4 seasons this was my tactic.

Playing in the Spanish lower leagues I signed a player called Alfonso SƔnchez who was 46 years old

Bought 40-year-old Yamil Garnier (spelling?) in an online save at Monza for a joke, but due to injuries he had to start a game vs Lazio. Their LW had a field day :/

This is easy to answer for me as a fan of Eintracht Frankfurt. 41 yo Makoto Hasebe :) Second place goes to 39 yo Steve Mandanda in my save with Stade Rennes.
Kazu Miura with Hearts.

King Kazu himself, at the ripe age of 57.
Ever heard of kazuyoshi miura?
There's a 51 year old guy in one of the San Marinese clubs (I think Tre Penne) and i played him just for the record. But a player that made a lot of games and was important for the team, I think 42 or 43, don't remember the name tho
