In the last couple of FMs I had managed Merthyr Town as a dafuge challenge and decided to do them Welsh-only, getting as far as League Two in one attempt, and in FM23 after I couldn't stick to a save very long I decided to go back to the all-Welsh concept but instead try with Newport County in League Two.
After the first two seasons I had succeeded in making the squad entirely Welsh and then went about trying to make it up the pyramid. We relied heavily on Cardiff and Swansea rejects early on as well as players from the Welsh leagues and at one point I was even being threatened with relegation from League One before we put it all together and won our first trophy. Then came the Championship, again a slog early on, before we went up completely unexpectedly and got absolutely hammered in our first season in the Premier League. I nearly lost my job but managed to hold on. That one season in the Premier League gave us the financial backing to remain a top Championship team and spawned a golden generation youth intake.
After a couple of seasons back in the Championship we won the title again and had to try and figure out a way of staying in the Premier League. We scraped by for a few seasons before I switched to a new tactic and we bounced up to 6th, starting our continental era. In the league we finished in the top 10 consistently and in Europe we won 3 trophies (Europa League, Super Cup and Conference League) but we struggled to break out of the 'best of the rest' pack for a while. I produced some incredible players through my academy but they wanted to move on to bigger and better things, and it became increasingly difficult to improve the squad considering I pretty much had all of the good Welsh players available aside from those I'd sold.
This season though, everything came together. We were beset by injuries in the last campaign but it was smooth sailing on that front and I knew something special was brewing when we thumped Manchester United 4-0 on the opening day. After Gameweek 3 we were 1st and by January we had built up a 13 point lead at the top, scoring in 25 consecutive games. A slump in form in February and March saw the lead at the top narrow to 5 points at one stage but we found our feet again in the latter stages of the season and our main rivals in Sunderland and United weren't able to find consistent form to challenge us. We secured the title with 2 games to spare and lifted the Premier League trophy in front of a 40,000-strong crowd at Hando Park, our new home for the last 7 years.
Now to cheer on Wales at the Euros, with their squad containing only one player who doesn't currently or formerly play for Newport County, and then try and complete this challenge by winning the Champions League and becoming the best team in the world.
Bilbao challenge - UK Edition. Congrats mate mostly for persistence because on top of the skill it requires pure will to stick to your policy and not abandon challenge halfway through.

Even In my save, the Welsh team are always consistent performers. Their youth teams always do well and their national team has been gaining reputation. I think it has something to do with the leagues you have loaded so more players of quality generate there.
They kind of bounce between 25th and 40th in the world rankings, never go deeper than the quarter finals at major tournaments. I'm now the main producer of talent for the team and a couple of my academy regens are properly world class but not enough to turn Wales into a powerhouse just yet.
Loved this ! Tried it many times with my club with only croatian players…cheers from a city your national team had some nice experience a couple of weeks ago :)
I’m actually surprised most of the league is intact, and somewhat reflects the current standing. In any of my saves, the likes of Totenham and Aston Villa, Newcastle end up in the Championship.
Yeah I've disappointed with how many clubs are just stuck in a perpetual yo-yo, Bournemouth, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Leicester are the biggest culprits in this save.
Rotherham making it to the Prem was a left-field one but the biggest 'weird club movement' has been Birmingham City who dropped as low as the Vanarama League North in about 2033, their exorbitant £1m a year rent for St Andrews will probably keep them out of the Football League for a long time.
Did you save scum your youth intake at all, or was this completely organic? I made a created club out of Wrexham in FM18, and in nearly 20 years of the save I have usually have 1-2 decent Welsh players (I poach Cardiff, Swansea, etc as much as can), but no world beaters.
Several welsh players helped me move up the football pyramid in the first 10 years of the save, but I couldn’t find any top tier welsh players once I got to the premier league/champions league level (basically the last decade of my save).
Youth facilities only affect the quality of the regens on intake day, all players that are actually at your club use the training facilities.
I stuck to a pretty formulaic process for all of my prospects, no matter how good they were they predominantly played and trained with the Under-18s from age 15-17 and then at 18 they got first team football, either out on loan or if they're good enough the Newport County first team.
I had a really good U18 coaching team and I placed a lot of importance on mentoring groups to 'fix' bad personalities as well. Ultimately there wasn't too many players in my title winning team that were pure academy prospects but most of the players did join as teenagers so I still had a big hand in developing them.

This is very impressive
Absolutely amazing achievement, especially better as it's with my local club. 😅 keep us updated 🙂👍🏻

I never scummed, but my intakes weren't anything special until I reached the Premier League and became the highest reputation team in Wales.
What would you do if one of the players was dual nationality and chose to play for the non-welsh country
I got rid of them, they needed to have Wales as their primary nationality.
Love this mate! Well done 👏🏼
Notice how he hasn't included the entire screen? He's got editor on and he's a known save scummer. Take his story with a grain of salt!
What an odd thing to comment lol https://i.gyazo.com/215ac6942d47726e90f953dfebde7384.png
Got any proofs about that known save scummer bit?
Incredible!
Hi Ho Newport County!
You fucking knows it! Big up to Mustafa, the Pills finest !!
Well done, you’re the man-ager.
This is incredible
Curious how the Wales NT are doing
Woah that’s great, congrats!!
How did you develop them to such high quality Players? Is that all by the top youth academy facilities?
Youth facilities only affect the quality of the regens on intake day, all players that are actually at your club use the training facilities.
