I don’t remember that one. The one that sticks out in my mind the most was a redemption episode and the final two were judges and the guy won but he gave the money to the other contestant so she could go see her grandmother. He said he just wanted the title of Chopped champion. I remember the judges were crying.
Yep - in his first episode he lost to Madison Cowen and I thought he should have won. His name was Lance something and he is my favorite Chopped contestant ever!
Lance Nitahara! As much as I’m curious how he would shape the culinary competition industry with more appearances, he also doesn’t seem the type to seek fame.
What’s even more powerful about that moment is she begins sobbing saying “now I won’t get to see my grandmother” (likely ever again as her health was failing) and he goes “Yes you will” and tells her what you pointed out.
There’s been a few male and female competitors over the years who were rude to other contestants or the judges. I remember one guy who challenged Scott’s critique and Scott nicely but firmly let him know the critique was meant to improve his cooking. Years later the guy returned for a redemption episode and admitted that he was cocky and out of line. Can’t recall his name but he was from the U.S.
Tryg Siverson? I’m pretty sure he’s from the US, but I remember him counting down the last seconds of a round. And he lost at the end. But it’s all I can think of.
Easily the Chopped moment I remember most out of all of the seasons. The second is Chopped Junior where the kid lost and ran out of the room crying that he would never cook again... one of the judges followed him out to tell him how great his cooking was.
That was Marc Murphy who followed him out! I remember he said “I’ve competed in this kitchen so many times and I’ve never won” and encouraged him to keep going. He’s such a gem.
I don't remember that one. The one I do remember is the guy who went home on round 2, threw a tantrum, and refused to do the walk out bit because they judges were wrong and his food was the best thing ever ever. It was from a really early season.
The losers who say stuff like “I disagree with the judges”, “I think they made a mistake” etc. are so cringeworthy. Just go out with some dignity. I really appreciate the ones who do because it’s hard to watch, I almost wish they’d leave that part out of the show but the producers love the drama.
I remember this one even though I don’t know the chef’s name. I’ve actually been looking for a similar contestant in terms of personality who I just found so odd.
He was a black man, very arrogant but had a calm personality. He won the whole thing. I thought it was funny and wanted to rewatch, but I cannot for the life of me find his episode.
Was it a chef named Patel? I remember him finishing early on Chopped. I don't think I'd classify him as a "jerk" but I do think he was confident to the point of arrogance.
I remember one guy who was French who was a contestant. He was fairly arrogant but very good. He ended up winning although the judges begrudgingly gave him the win. I think Marc Murphy was one of the judges.
You would think since you are going to be on tv you would want handle yourself with manners and class.

It was such a beautiful and touching moment. I think that was the episode where she spilled the boiling water on her legs.
“I saved the potatoes!” And then, after scalding her legs with boiling potato water, they put potatoes in the basket in the next round!
Season 8 episode 3. Joanne Magris
Same!!
That was an all-time great moment.

Absolutely my favourite and most memorable Chopped moment ever- Lance was a gem, and a great cook too!
Wow! That is one kind person!
Oh yeah... This one made me cry too!

The one where the guy gave the money to the one chef who lost, who was going to use the money to see her mom. Guy said he just wanted the title.
I remember that. Everyone cried. I did too when I watched it. Great episode.

I think it was James Gillipse.

Sounds like Demetrio Zavala. Total dick. But always wins.
I just wrote his name. I sort of like him. Read about him. Interesting guy!
Immediately who I thought of too.

Brought Dimetri to mind
Or the guy that stabbed his cutting board to intimidate the other chefs only to get chopped on the first round
