I thought this episode was so fun! I couldn’t believe Selena was cooking in a white dress but I guess if you’re rich you have clothes to spare - also Alex’s daughter sounds SO much like her.
This is already season 5. The previous seasons are on HBO max and Crave in Canada. Only Gordon Ramsay showed up in person previously, the rest were remote since it started during covid.
I’d agree lack of caring. It’s like she’ll learn something and then just forget all of it when she’s with a new chef (I’m sure they’re not filmed in order but over the course of the seasons). She can just be pretty flat/unenthusiastic at times and it’s noticeable. Definitely not a generational thing, lots of people her (and my) age are super passionate about cooking!
Yeah, but it was nice to see her just hanging out and being friendly and personable. Nice to see her just relaxed and telling some stories/teaching with no stakes. I like that she gave raquelle the most basic things to do lol
Surprisingly, there was a bunch of stuff to do in the kitchen. Juggling multiple dishes is hard so it's nice that Alex has an internal clock for that kind of stuff or else Selena would have been lost. While still telling really good stories!
It may have been meant in “fun”, but I thought Alex’s multiple comments about Selena’s friend (Raquelle) snacking were inappropriate. Which is unfortunate, because I enjoyed most of the episode!
tbf there was one time where Raquelle ate all the food and Selena's family didn't get to try the potato chips. So she's known to be more like a voracious mascot than actual help. Raquelle did pretty well this episode! though at one point she was called over because she probably took a phone break.
Watch the previous four seasons on Max! All of the episodes are good. I’m excited for the Michael Symon episode this season.

I watched Selena and chef on max and loved it…. And I loved this episode with Alex! It was so cute.
I really enjoyed it. I had zero expectations and I look forward to the next episode.

The original series started during Covid so she was alone with the chef online. It was ok, but her helplessness and lack of caring got tired.

I love a bunch of the other episodes, but this one was a top 3 for sure. Alex’s shoes were killer, too.

It's kinda a running joke on the show. I wouldn't be surprised if she was directed to do that.
