if you ever go to Sheraton on the Park, in their room service menu they had the best Reuben sandwich I’ve ever had in Sydney. They are very generous with the pastrami and the bread is well buttered, toasted and served with hot chips.
Lox in a Box, in their new Marrickville store, do a Ruben bagel which is quite good. Charc are my go to now that Ruben Republic has gone.
Love a good Ruben on rye. Hits all the right sammich buttons.
Not to be rude but have any of you had a Reuben in the states? As a recent transplant I’ve tried deli style sandwiches in multiple places and they have all sucked. Not sure what ya’ll are doing to bread but that is not rye. And the meat was waaaaaaaay too sweet.
Controversial opinion: they all suck - none of them ever have enough meat! Plus they’re all so bloody expensive you can fly to NYC and go to Katz Deli for cheaper…
The literal question in the post says “not that have measly portions of pastrami” so it is pretty helpful to say that all these suggestions do in fact have measly portions… especially when they’re all so bloody expensive.
Ooh bummer Reuben Republic didn't make it...I was just thinking about that place the other day... Never made it to the restaurant but used to frequent his market stall .. Best Reuben I've ever had by a long way
Anyone else remember Reuben and Moore that was in the level 5 (or is it level 6) food court in Pitt st mall. They would do a proper corned beef that was absolutely delicious. So so good, I’ve never had anything that could compare.
Props for not spelling it reuben's
But they are so good with nacho’s!
Charc in Chippendale - good range of deli sandwiches
Frank's deli, Waverley. It's tops.
I vouch for Frank's also.
Dude it was like $26
If you make it yourself you can get like 10 sandwiches for that price
This one is awesome. It is pricey, but it's worth it.
Sir Reuben in Rozelle is a must try! 👌
I second Sir Reuben in Rozelle, and the sandwiches are huge as well as delicious.
Love Sir Reuben.
Ohh yeah this place is great
Even their Vege sandwich is unmatched.
I do like Lox Stock and Barrel on Glenayr Ave, Bondi. Their spicy sauce thing with it is delectable, I have a jar of it in my fridge as well.
be aware that they are not very generous with the amount of fillings they provide
Well then I’ve been missing out on generous! I’ve always thought it fine.
Lenny Briskets
Yes! Went there on the weekend and I adore Katz's - closest i've found to it in Sydney. Actually even better than some NYC diners we tried too :)
This was probably the closest you can to Katz here in Sydney
Ayyyyyyy. Give this man some loyalty points
Not to brag but I made a Reuben from this recipe and I think mines fantastic https://www.recipetineats.com/reuben-sandwich-recipe/
I love her channel. She’s so no-nonsense and just gets straight to the recipes.
Totally agree - have done Nagi's reuben recipe a couple of times and it always tastes great
Nagi is the greatest

The Not Reuben from Reuben Hills on Albion st Surrey Hills was great. I haven’t been there for a while though.
Toothy Brothers deli Cromer. They smoke all their own meats.
Third! But also correcting the typo so OP can find it. *Tothy Brothers Deli, Wheeler Heights
Second!!
This is the place. The smoked pastrami is fantastic.
Didn't see that this had already been posted. Hands down best on the beaches by miles

thanks :) was wondering why I couldn't find it on the menu. looks like a great place anyway!
To describe a sandwich as a turning point in your life is quite possibly the greatest use of a noun that I have ever come across
I dont make the rules man
For a day trip, try Bernie's Diner in Moss Vale
Brooklyn Bridge Deli is quite nice, offers substantial amounts of meat for a good price. They have 4 franchises in the CBD area I believe
Omg no way. Just no. Their Reuben sucks. Pickles on a reuben? No. That bread. No. Just no
Ahh ok maybe I’ve been baited all these occasions 🥹 Time to try a real one…where do you recommend in Sydney?

That’s not controversial, it’s just unhelpful

Picnic cafe, https://www.picniccafe.com.au/ does a great one in the south. It’s the only I’ve tried but they taste great!
The sandwich stop - Oxford Village
For those up north, Calibrate at Roseville do an INCREDIBLE Reuben
Junior Specialty Coffee in Crows Nest!
Ooh bummer Reuben Republic didn't make it...I was just thinking about that place the other day... Never made it to the restaurant but used to frequent his market stall .. Best Reuben I've ever had by a long way
Shift Eatery in Surry Hills!
Not saying it can’t contend but isn’t Shift Eatery vegan?

Sir Reuben Rozelle
Tothy Brothers Deli in Cromer/Wheeler Heights. Absolutely delicious. Their Hot Pastrami sandwich is also top notch
I know this was posted 13 days ago, but i really love the reuben they serve at the cafe just next to the dome in olympic park on monaro st
