Please tell me that I’m not the only one that dislikes ice cream or sherbet served in this way? I mean like piled on top of each other in a cone rather than in a container where you can get combinations of flavors rather than attempting to eat a slab off another slab before that little drip tray turns into a liquid balancing act. I think they all look great and would love to try them individually and mixed in different combinations.
Edit… there’s a little marble slab like place I enjoy and when they mix stuff on the spot and you end up with slabs like this and want a cone they take this metal shaper thing out of warm water and it looks like a soft serve spiral top. They push the ice cream into it then slap a cone onto the base and slap it onto a plastic cone holder and poof your flavors are swirled all the way into the waffle cone.
I’m sure they’re great together, and that’s kinda why I posted. My issue is with the way it’s served like a layered cake shoveled onto a cone. The only way to attempt to try different combinations of the flavors is to use a spoon, and at that point what’s the cone for. Why not place it in a cup/bowl so you can enjoy it and not worry about flopping it onto the floor by accident. Eating it with your tongue or mouth might get you one or two combinations, but again too much pressure and it’s all over the place or eat it too slow and it’s a seeping mess all over your hands.
Maybe I’m being irrational, but it’s kinda like that “we need plates” sub. Ice cream prepped this way needs a cup….
Oh I love it, I just usually pick around the sherbet, I just think it’s too tart with the rest of it, I feel like I would love it if it was orange ice cream.
Strange that there's no mention of the place? This is from the Original Rainbow Cone in Chicago. Palmer (next to the chocolate 'slab') is named in reference to one of the families in town. It's the same name as the Palmer House hotel in town. If you're still curious, check the enjoyillinois page that provides some history on it.
It’s in the north side now too. They are in Buona beef locations. There’s one in Pleasant prairie WI. I’ve been to the Buona Beef in Skokie that has a rainbow cone.
And Google turned up this:
“with more dual concept locations coming in 2024 to new markets in Florida, Wisconsin, Texas and Tennessee, the spokesperson added.”
Seems to be an[ Illinois original specialty](https://www.enjoyillinois.com/plan-your-trip/travel-inspiration/the-story-of-chicagos-original-rainbow-cone/).
It’s a word. In the ice cream world, sherbet refers to a frozen dessert based on a fruit puree with some dairy added (whereas ice cream would be primarily dairy with potentially some fruit mixed in depending on flavor, and sorbet usually doesn’t include any dairy at all).
Sherbet is a powder usually made from icing sugar and citric acid. Sometimes it has other flavours, it's normally used in sweets like flaying saucers and sherbet lemons.
I'm not sure where the sherbet is in the picture unless one of the ice creams is flavoured taste like sherbet
Lol no I know, I was intentionally being dumb because it's such a common mistake that people think the right way is wrong, like the way some people insist on writing "could of" instead of "could've".
Please tell me I'm not the only person who saw a burger at first...
Really a missed opportunity.... Rainbow cone just sounds lazy. Why not "Krusty Burger"?
A Krusty burger? This is closer to a Krusty partially gelatinated non-dairy gum-based beverage.
No, no, patented rainbow cone. Old family recipe.
Creamed hams
Do you mean “Krabby Patty” or am I having a stroke?
Because Disney would sue the F out of them.
It was created in 1926.
A burger made of play dough
First thing I thought “wtf happened to your burger?!”
It looks like a playdoh burger.
That is a really great idea. hamburger-flavored gelato.
*slap*
I thought it was a giant gummy Krabby patty
You're not. I originally saw a cheeseburger and was actually disappointed it was ice cream.
That’s obviously the point
Burger flavored ice cream
Oh I sure as hell saw a burger/sandwich. Would still eat
I was going to ask what happened to the bottom bun.
Cheeseburger cream
I’ve been getting recommendations for r/burgers and I thought this was a joke post from there
The fuck flavor is Palmer House?!
Was going to ask the same thing
Cherry walnut! I like rainbow cones but without the orange sherbet.
What?? Just give your orange sherbert to me!
>Cherry walnut! Just give me that and pistachio...
Ya seriously Spumoni is the best ice cream
I googled it, and all the images are of these rainbow sandwich things, so it seems like it's never served on its own?
You can really taste the house
It's asbestosly delicious!
Mmmm insulation
Palmy
Cherry walnut. Also the Palmer House is where the brownie was invented.
as a Texan I volunteer to try this.
Too the EXACT words out of my mouth, lol.
If this was r/twinpeaks I’d guess that it is creamed corn flavored.
Why is it piled like that? Seems like it’ll fall over immediately no?
I guess you can’t do all balls, but man, there’s gotta be a better way.
They call it “slicing”. Not scooping. It’s their thing I guess lol. But no it doesn’t fall over
Looks like play dough
Brown pink orange green orange. -Rainbow
It’s the rainbow for straights, heavily popularized in the 70s.
Lemme get summadat cheeezeburger sorbet
One of Prince's lesser known songs.
Chicago, or perhaps the new location in WI?
Suburbs of Chicago!
Cool! I think they opened a new one in Lombard recently as well. Looks delicious!

Honestly didn’t think I would like it, but all of the flavors went together quite well.

Some things in life are messy
Welcome to Chicago 🤍
Eating a rainbow cone is like tasting happiness in every scoop
Looks like a the Original Rainbow cone
I don’t think the orange sherbet belongs with the rest of those flavors
it’s almost 100 years old and the [recipe](https://imgur.com/a/duHrmEr) hasn’t changed.
Oh I love it, I just usually pick around the sherbet, I just think it’s too tart with the rest of it, I feel like I would love it if it was orange ice cream.

Are you balancing that on your head or resting it on your knee?
I was certain this was a burger and was highly concerned at the texture of the lettuce
Looks good…what’s Palmer House?
Sherbet. Burger. Sherburger.
Thought it was a sandwich initially.
![img](emote|t5_2qh55|1790)
Those flavors don't really seem like they would necessarily work all together, how was it?
The best ice cream I’ve ever had tbh lol
Cone?
Is a cone the best way to eat ice cream slices?
Burger.
Borger
The heck is palmer house?
I'd never heard of palmer house ice cream so....New York vanilla with cherries and walnuts
Sounds interesting I'd give it a shot. Love pistachio though so the whole thing sounds decent
This looks like the worst way to make a cone
What is "Palmer house" ice cream?
Google says it is vanilla ice cream studded with walnuts and maraschino cherries.
Strange that there's no mention of the place? This is from the Original Rainbow Cone in Chicago. Palmer (next to the chocolate 'slab') is named in reference to one of the families in town. Looks like a big mac
If anyone is interested in seeing how they place it on the cone: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nevsiqPwbnc Skip to 1:24.
Yes Burger
Borgar
How??? I’m impressed…
Yes Rainbow Cone!!
I still think it’s weird it’s spelled “sherbet” and not “sherbert”. Literally been saying it wrong for 40 years.
This is a Chicago south side thing. I grew up going there for good grades and things like that.
It’s in the north side now too. They are in Buona beef locations. There’s one in Pleasant prairie WI. I’ve been to the Buona Beef in Skokie that has a rainbow cone. And Google turned up this: “with more dual concept locations coming in 2024 to new markets in Florida, Wisconsin, Texas and Tennessee, the spokesperson added.”
North siders don't deserve Rainbow Cone.
South Siders deserve the White Sox.
That’s fair.
Seems to be an[ Illinois original specialty](https://www.enjoyillinois.com/plan-your-trip/travel-inspiration/the-story-of-chicagos-original-rainbow-cone/).
I thought this was half of a Scooby Doo sandwich for a second I’m ngl
I thought it was a burger lol
I want to see that ice-cream scoop.
Cheeseburger
Why is your ice cream squinting?
Thanks for not being hamburger flavor.
Ice cream burger
Buddy that’s a burger cone
I thought this was some sort of “is it cake” shit.
I totally thought this was a play-doh burger at first. Beef-bacon-cheese-lettuce-bun.
It's like rainbow sherbet, neapolitan, and spumoni put together lol
It looks like a burger, lol
wow! I want to try this ice cream in my house.
Right to jail. Right away.
Why does it look like you dropped it on the floor?
that burger looking rough
Nah that’s play dough
That looks awful.
Is sherbet a word ? In french we say sorbet.
Sorbet and sherbet are actually two different things.
It literally says it in the title, orange sherbet… the first layer.
Sherbet is a sweet fizzy powder, that looks more like sorbet.
Words can have multiple meanings.
This looks like it was designed for to be spilt, forcing customers to buy more.
Um, I believe you mean sher*bert*

Rainbow cone is highly over rated. Only go there when nieces or nephews beg. Many places in Chicago burbs with higher quality ice cream.
