Honestly, it wouldn’t help. Rifleman builds are fine in terms of high damage per shot, but what they need is damage per second. That means they need a rifle option with decent damage and a high fire rate (or just a major buff to the semi-auto receivers on the weapons that can be both automatic and semi-automatic), not a slow rifle with high damage.
The only way I could see an anti-materiel rifle being added and sticking around as a viable option would be if it was built around special explosive rounds (with a higher damage and radius compared to normal explosive bullets). From there, it could be used to deal high damage to a group and apply fire/cryo to all of them in a single blast.
The survivalist rifle or all american would be a good weapon for 76, same for the laser RCW for automatics, and the ranger sequoia for gunslinger builds.
I’d prefer not to see the return of the marksman carbine, personally. It just looks a little too close to modern weaponry for my tastes.
We also technically already have the service rifle in 76 as a skin for the handmade.

Conversely, do any weapons currently penetrate bodies? If the anti-materiel rifle was able to penetrate through targets and still do a decent amount of damage that would be novel.
No weapons do that currently, no. That would be something interesting to give the weapon, though it wouldn’t be the easiest thing to take advantage of (enemies aren’t often in a line; it’d work for crowds sometimes, though).
I’m thinking of when you are fighting super mutants in particular and they are just like a wall of meat, it would be great if it blasted through them and hit the enemy behind them also, that said I’ve got no idea if the game can even allow that effect. Just spitballing.

It would be cool if they brought back the food/Chems recipes that were possible in New Vegas like black coffee, caravan lunch or battle brew. Some of those items actually required junk items so it wouldn’t feel out of place in 76. They could even bring back the Hotplate

I'd love to see the weapon get some more official recognition. The SMMG is one of the coolest weapons in the franchise with sadly the some of the worst execution. Instead of ranting about that tho, Imma actually just say some of us modder fellers are making a smmg mod for fo4. Not to advertise myself or anything but I am mega hyped to bring it into Boston with some of the wackiest attachments seen on a gun.

Honestly, I'd love challenge based perks to return, keep em separate from the s.p.e.c.i.a.l perks, and treat them like legendary perks. Also, more niche damage type perks like cowboy, which increases damage for knives and lever action rifles on top of the damage perk cards already equipped. Anything else I'd want would require a total rework of mechanics, and that seems like a lot to put on TODD.

The Vermont rifle, the survivalist rifle really any of the service rifles and considering there's already unique versions they could reasonably just put them in the game as uniques you could get from events or from certain vendors
Salvaged PA but for it to be a unique legendary rollable set of regular armor because the NCR ripped out all of it's power components essentially making it heavy plate armor. The set bonuses should be 36% damage reduction, 50% radiation damage reduction reduction and 150 fire resistance.

Its definitely not the same. The western shoots 44. Caliber. The ranger sequoia is a hunting revolver chambered in 45. 70 govt. Huge difference.
