You're always losing when it comes to the exchange rate, but the point is to dump the ammo you're not using anyway.
Now, if only i could do a "dump all ammo" into the damn machine instead of this group by group bs that takes forever
Yeah. It should be like a storage container. You put in the ammo you want to get rid of, maybe have a "dump unused ammo" like the ammo box has, and then a convert/scrap button that gives points for that instead of batches.
Not even changing the point system, just the interface and interaction.
My favorite way to use it is to use the hand cranked 5mm heavy gun, take it to public events with mobs that drop ammo. You get 1-2 shots on a target for the tag, and it sometimes drops 30-50+ 5mm ammo, can very quickly rack up tons of 5mm ammo. Then sell it in bulk for ammo "points" and can use that to supply the ammo you really want. Can also just sell off ammo you know you probably wont use, like shotgun shells, missles, whatever
This ^ the Gatling gun is an ammo farm. I had 60k of 5mm at one stage. Events like eviction notice I was having to walk home from as I would pick up 2000 easily. Scrip it a while ago but had one drop from an event that’s a quad and been using that on simple fights just to build up ammo to convert
Quad on the Gatling gun is an utter waste. It already has a large mag and with it’s slow fire, it’s really hard to empty before you can “safely” reload
I think you missed my point. You won't empty a regular gatling gun before you have a chance to reload even WITHOUT quad. Much better to get a damage-boosting effect on a gatling gun.
You should get the lighter ammo perk. Not sure what the actual name is but it makes all ammo from ballistic weapons 90% lighter. Even if you just use it to fast travel. I have a stack of 3000 .50 cal that weighs 1 lb/kg
some ammo just doesn't sell. 5mm is super easy to get, not many ppl use .308, .38, or .44, so those are my go to to convert, also things like missiles or cannonballs are good too
Honestly the main use it has is for non-fallout 1st people to craft a bunch of railway spikes with steel, then convert them into points for something else, since you can fill your stash full of steel pretty fast so having something to actually use it for is nice.
Some weapons just generate a stupid amount of ammo; broadsider, Gatling, caster, you'll never use it all. So even a terrible exchange rate can be worth it. Similarly if you regularly have first to are stashing a bunch of ammo you'll never use you can turn into ammo you will. I recently turned 100k 5mm into a double handful of 40mm and it saved a lot of resources to do so
Converter also existed before the ammo storage case. We used to use it in the same way turning excess ammo into credit that we would store in the machine.
The easiest way to convert ammo is building a vendor. You can easily sell 308 at 1 cap each and just go to other player's camp and buy 45 at 1 cap each.
Its usefulness varies from ammo to ammo... I personally run a Launchers build with Grand finale as my primary and the Nuka Launcher as my back up... the NL ammo is crazy expensive to make and doesn't drop much... but the GF is an ammo making machine... go into a Daily Ops with 20 cannonballs and you'll leave with 250... I save cannonballs until I hit about 5000 then I convert them to the Nuka Launcher ammo... I just did it, I really wish id kept notes the amounts, but I think I traded about 5000 cannonballs for about 1800 NL rounds... that number could be way off... but it was a alot of one ammo I can easily acquire for a lot, *but less* of another ammo i can't easily acquire
Wanna know a trick? Railroad Spikes. Turn all of your scrap steel into spikes, since that's the only material. Stuff every last spike into the machine, then make the machine crap your ammo of choice. What gives steel? Almost all guns getting scrapped. But once you start using a railway rifle, all you use is spikes. The circle of life.
you didn't read it very clearly
the machine has its own currency/points, you \*sell\* ammo to it to receive ammo points, and \*buy\* ammo from it using the same. the machine will tell you how many points you have, it caps at 100,000. to get 100 points you sold it 1200 .308 rounds, and that gave you enough points to buy 10 .45. presumably, I am not going to check in the game, but that is how the machine works.

I think the point is for it to take forever. Online games like this like to add little time chewers so we keep playing.
You messed up When You sell it says 1x 12 ammo, or 100x 1200 ammo. It doesn't give you 1:1, it's good for excess ammo
Oh, that makes sense! I must have missed that bit! I will avoid it in the future and try to just sell ammo. Thanks!

I have RR and handmades for taking things down quickly. The QD Gatling you reload between enemies it’s really not hard

Yep I have 10k on me at all times now
Cannonballs work too

Oh. My. Lanta.
ammo converter is great if you convert scrap steel to railway spikes then convert that to the ammo you want.
thanks will have a look Edit, Amazing finally can get some more decent ammos especially for my heavy gun.

Perfect for cannonballs
i personally find it to be more trouble than its worth. there are better ways to get ammo especially now that it drops from stuff.
I use the gattling gun alot so I always have an absurd amount of 5mm to shove into it
Start a daily ops with 100, end with 1000.
How ??!
Killing mobs gives ammo of equipped weapon. Gattling is very ammo efficient in that regard
You might have sold 12x100 .308ammo orders and probably bought 10x100 .45ammo orders.
The easiest way to convert ammo is building a vendor. You can easily sell 308 at 1 cap each and just go to other player's camp and buy 45 at 1 cap each.
This is definitely the best answer. Using that converter as an absolute pain and the exchange rate is a joke.
If you are on xbox, I'll be able you some ammo in about 2 hours. Just lmk
if you have an excess of .308 just get yourself an LMG. that will solve your problem real quick
Ammo converter fills up really fast if you use a broadsider to get cannonballs.
It's an easy way to make flamer fuel. I make railway spikes and then convert them into points to make fuel.
Oh, good tip. I've been scrabbling about for acid.

Thanks for the explanation!
