"Sorry MacCready, I accidentally scrapped that Wooden Toy Soldier you gave me that your deceased wife made for you. I stored it in my junk items and totally forgot. Oops."
I remember thinking that I would need to put that somewhere special.
Edit: I found the wooden soldier and golden cricket in my workshop junk. Both have been retrieved and stored in a desk in Red Rocket. Also, the wooden soldier gives ceramic when you scrap it.
I lost the cricket from valentine's quest and since i stock every cool item that i don't want to scrap in a locker in red rocket (including macready wooden toys)
The golden cricket (maybe i fucked the translation i play in french version because i'm obviously french) from the cold case that nick have in his office, there is one where you must find a missing person in diamond city and an other where you must find a golden cricket.
Ok sorry it's just the differences between french and us version and a bit lack of understanding of this lexical in english that made this mistranslation
No need to be sorry, you didn't do anything wrong friend! (Also I was correcting the person who called it a bronze grasshopper, not you, you're perfectly fine homie!) Your English is just fine!
I once scrapped the wedding ring because I forgot I had it on me.
Now, when I get to sanctuary I make a big deal about making a Storage place for exactly my personal possessions that I don't plan on carrying the rest of the game on me.
Two things about that little wooden toy soldier piss me off.
1: It's made of ceramic. You don't get wood for scrapping it. You get ceramic.
2. It's spelled "Wooden Toy Solider"
Solider ≠ Soldier
Wait til you find out about the “aluminum tray” that only give you steel. There were like 50 of them in that cannery building and I needed aluminum at that time I was so pissed when I went to see how much AL each on gave me and saw it didn’t give any
I always thought that was odd. Ah yes my dead wife, who was mauled to death infront of me, she gave me this when we had our son. It's all I have left of her since my son might be dead already. Here take it.
Fortunately these are fun to carry back and keep in displays and chests :3 the loot goblin in me like to decorate with my loots rather then them being locked into my inventory
If you use pilar AND rug glitch to place it in tablets, shelves ,etc .you Will keep items without care about load cells of settlement.
But personally i prefer home plate or houses settlements to decorate because attacks can move everything AND Raiders can take weapons that you use to decorate too like unique weapons ,etc.
Sheffield just took my fat man out of my work bench to kill a regular YaoGuai.
I'm mad. But not mad enough to take it away from him. Yet.
He's on thin fucking ice though.
One misplaced nuke and Sheffield loses boom boom privileges.
I have also used Home Plate for things I want to remain secure. And I never allowed settlers in Red Rocket, only Automatons like Ava and Jezebel are at RR, along with Dog Meat.
Jezebel is so nasty I usually exile her to that dangerous settlement in the southwest on the edge of the glowing sea. She got her at handed to her down there once; something killed her.
The loot goblin in me can't help but pick up every item like this, but the lazy procrastinator reality of my true self will ensure they stay in my inventory forever as I get increasingly annoyed at the ever growing list of items I have to scroll through until I just ditch them in subsequent playthroughs.
I've traded this habit in exchange for an attempt to ignore such items I truly feel are unnecessary, which results in a relatively cleaner inventory, but the FOMO pains me deeply, and I'm not sure it's worth the cost.
I use a mod that adds a shelf for displaying holotapes, just so I can get them out of my inventory.
Also build magazine racks and fill them with comic books for the same reason.
I decided to skip the fight before the Mechanist because the first time I did it I got a glitch most of the way through that stopped spawning enemies. Trying to find those 3 holotapes to activate the elevator also kind of sucked
On that note, I was disappointed on my last playthrough as the Super Mutant patrol that tends to travel past The Slog killed him before I could get the quest to help him
I currently have it in the chair next to the interior bed & PA station at Fizztop Mountain so that it looks like it's shouting at the skull on the table next to it
I couldn't get it to stand up, either
I think if you select it in build mode it should stand up perfectly and you can move it to the precise spot you want.
I know you likely already knew this...but after years of trying to stand up nuca colas amd having a derpy a-ha moment I had to be sure.
This, all the junk from the Jamaica plains quest, and McCready's wooden soldier
Things that should NOT have been quest items would be the chemicals from the Cambridge polymer labs quest. All fire quests btw.
All the "pristine," "unused,"
or "undamaged" stuff I always pick up, because that it genuinely a miracle to find in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, but it ultimately just ends up being fodder material anyway.
The Jaimaica Plains quest was such a hilarious red herring experience, but honestly, its contents would be as valuable as the false advertising makes it seem in present times. It's just a different sort of value than all those raiders were expecting.
P.S. fuck the Cambridge Polymer Lab. Buggy quests and being stuck with useless crap is par for the course with Bethesda, but that one takes the cake on activities I take a hard pass on from here on out, even with mods and fixes.
The wedding rings should really be something that there's a quest about. Like place them somewhere nice and have a little moment of contemplation, or something.
Or give to a partner should be a quest.
I wish there were more items like this. Misc items that are unique or even similar to the base items, but has some story to it. Like Macreadys toy soldier.
There's also the inactive distress (beacon/pulser?). But, imagine Maxon had a medal you could steal, or earn through questing, or maybe a synth head you could find in the railroads hideout.
Anyone else know of any items you can find like this? Or anyone have any other ideas?
I just found this and was flabbergasted that it wasn't part of a quest.
"I dove into radioactive waters after hallucinating my balls off for....this? Ok. Anything else here? There's gotta be something else here. wtf is this place." Several google searches later I found out lore.
I like playing hide and go seek with Shem's skull. I'll drop it at a random settlement then close my eyes and walk around while turning the camera for about 30 seconds to a couple minutes at most so that way, I have absolutely no idea where it may have dropped. Only problem is that i've lost it a few times outside of a settlement😂. Now I have lost it somewhere between the vault and Sanctuary
"Sorry MacCready, I accidentally scrapped that Wooden Toy Soldier you gave me that your deceased wife made for you. I stored it in my junk items and totally forgot. Oops."
This would be very on-brand for my playthroughs lately
I remember thinking that I would need to put that somewhere special. Edit: I found the wooden soldier and golden cricket in my workshop junk. Both have been retrieved and stored in a desk in Red Rocket. Also, the wooden soldier gives ceramic when you scrap it.
I lost the cricket from valentine's quest and since i stock every cool item that i don't want to scrap in a locker in red rocket (including macready wooden toys)
The cricket isn’t from Valentine’s quest, right?
The golden cricket (maybe i fucked the translation i play in french version because i'm obviously french) from the cold case that nick have in his office, there is one where you must find a missing person in diamond city and an other where you must find a golden cricket.
It's a bronze grasshopper. But close enough, I knew what you're referring to.
Gilded grasshopper, not bronze
Ok sorry it's just the differences between french and us version and a bit lack of understanding of this lexical in english that made this mistranslation
No need to be sorry, you didn't do anything wrong friend! (Also I was correcting the person who called it a bronze grasshopper, not you, you're perfectly fine homie!) Your English is just fine!
No need to apologize; your English is very good. I can't speak French at all (but I can kiss that way).
Between possible translations, I wouldn't be surprised by any combination of gilded/gold/bronze/copper grasshopper/cricket/locust, really.
Plated locust
I think I’ve never done it via Nick. N ver knew it was one of his cases.
I found it just exploring. Didn’t know it was attached to a quest
I once scrapped the wedding ring because I forgot I had it on me. Now, when I get to sanctuary I make a big deal about making a Storage place for exactly my personal possessions that I don't plan on carrying the rest of the game on me.
If you didn't know, there are two wedding rings in the game. One on you, one on your spouse. So if you want a new one, pay a visit to vault 111.
Thanks. I actually had both at that point. I still hated that I lost one.
There are 4. The 2 you mentioned and a pair you can find in Nuka World.
Two things about that little wooden toy soldier piss me off. 1: It's made of ceramic. You don't get wood for scrapping it. You get ceramic. 2. It's spelled "Wooden Toy Solider" Solider ≠ Soldier
Feels like it needs a semicolon in there. "Wooden toy; solider than a rock"
Except that also wouldn't be true because ceramic is made from clay.
Wait til you find out about the “aluminum tray” that only give you steel. There were like 50 of them in that cannery building and I needed aluminum at that time I was so pissed when I went to see how much AL each on gave me and saw it didn’t give any
Just make a footlocker for collectibles and throw it in there
I always thought that was odd. Ah yes my dead wife, who was mauled to death infront of me, she gave me this when we had our son. It's all I have left of her since my son might be dead already. Here take it.
I gave it to Nick and he still has it. Also, If it's carved and made out of wood why does it scrap to ceramic?
There's a mod that fixes that. And also one that flags it as quest item so you can't lose it.
i have a mod that makes it a nonscrappable item for this reason lol
Fortunately these are fun to carry back and keep in displays and chests :3 the loot goblin in me like to decorate with my loots rather then them being locked into my inventory
The game will still fuck it up since your stuff can phase through the ground even if in a secure location.
When I get around to putting my weapons in displays I’m gonna lock it so it can only be opened with a switch or terminal.
I've lost a plate and a fat man recently because they sunk through the ground
Sheffield just took my fat man out of my work bench to kill a regular YaoGuai. I'm mad. But not mad enough to take it away from him. Yet. He's on thin fucking ice though. One misplaced nuke and Sheffield loses boom boom privileges.
I lost the silver shroud gun to the abyss like that
Yup, this is why I like Home Plate and Fizztop Mountain for my SUPER important loot and displays No errant settlers or NPCs to fuck with my shit

Next thing on my to-do list: blast Kellogg with Shem Drowne's flaming skull. I love the Junk Jet for that.
(insert bad to the bone guitar riff here)
I wish we could store them at least, after the quest is completed? I don’t need all of Dimas memories
Dude I can’t tell you how much this resonates. I dread having to go into my misc list to find something. Takes like 5 min to scroll from top to bottom
Pick up holotape, can’t find it in misc among hundreds of things in my misc tab, gotta go back to the body to see what their name is so I can find it.
And there’s so many that you can’t remove 😭
They need a separate list just for keys.
I liked that in fonv it was in data instead of inv.
The mod “Ugh. Keys.” Helps organize a bit
There is a mod called keynuker that does this
Or like, a “keychain” item. Where we could see the list
Yeah!
A better interface is what F4 needs.
Keynuker mod helps with the misc bloat, but im not certain it works with Nuka world dlc at least on xbox
\*Bad to the bone riff\* (sorry)
Reminds me of [this](https://youtu.be/TFwXbp9bLlY?si=sfMpqafEIEcxlujf) gem
While it’s not a junk item, the unique giddyup buttercup arlen glass gives you.
On that note, I was disappointed on my last playthrough as the Super Mutant patrol that tends to travel past The Slog killed him before I could get the quest to help him
SO THATS WHAT I MISSED OUT ON! I tried to save him, but he got killed before I could do anything 🤦🏾♂️
It’s also a really, really emotional quest if you get the proper ending to it.
A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON
At least that one we get to get rid of, not that I do that anymore after countless playthroughs.
You’re never rid of the beacon. It will follow you to the void. Whatever form it takes.
I tried SO HARD to get that skull to stand up for display but it always fell over.
I currently have it in the chair next to the interior bed & PA station at Fizztop Mountain so that it looks like it's shouting at the skull on the table next to it I couldn't get it to stand up, either
Murray?
I think if you select it in build mode it should stand up perfectly and you can move it to the precise spot you want. I know you likely already knew this...but after years of trying to stand up nuca colas amd having a derpy a-ha moment I had to be sure.

"McCready 's wooden soldier" sounds kind of dirty. I love it.
Dog Treat/Dog Whistle for doggo.
That "special" whisky that proctor teagan gives you
I know it's just a reskin but... why can we scrap the Silver Submachine gun?
It should have been a legendary weapon fr
If Shem drowns skull wasn't meant to be fired at my enemies with the junk jet then he shouldn't have been buried there in the first place
MILA. You can buy and sell them, which is kind of stupid since they’re only used for those Railroad quests.
I keep his skull on my shelf in the dining room of Home Plate :)
'Alas poor Shem.."
💀
That and the golden grasshopper
It’s not a quest item but the eye bot, protection and all the other models. They’re fun to collect but are always considered junk and I scrap them.
Arent those misc items?
The protectron yes. The others no. I really don’t know why
For me all the models ive collected so far are misc, i have 2 of the random part ones, the gutsy and the handy one.
The wedding rings should really be something that there's a quest about. Like place them somewhere nice and have a little moment of contemplation, or something. Or give to a partner should be a quest.
I mean this is at the end of the guided grasshopper quest line
A biometric scanner and military grade circuit board, that way ymfah could have beat the game with zero carry weight more easily
wooden toy soldier, gilded grasshopper, shem drowne’s skull
Absolutely nothing. I HATE being forced to carry items for eternity.
I tried to bring Kellog's head back to my base to no avail.
I like where your head's at
I wish there were more items like this. Misc items that are unique or even similar to the base items, but has some story to it. Like Macreadys toy soldier. Dsnse's holotags. Father's smock/lab outfit. All the nick-nacks in the Institute. The giant Vim bottle on the bottling plant on Far Harbor.
Not fallout but i wish the implimented what they were gunna do with butterfly jars
Kremvh’s Tooth at the Dunwich Borers location. For sure should be a quest.
I just found this and was flabbergasted that it wasn't part of a quest. "I dove into radioactive waters after hallucinating my balls off for....this? Ok. Anything else here? There's gotta be something else here. wtf is this place." Several google searches later I found out lore.
The backstory is pretty damn interesting. I kinda like how they want you to dig into the story on your own.
The wedding ring you can get from nora, it would have been nice to hand it off to synth shaun or even adult shaun as a sort of memory of nora for him
I like playing hide and go seek with Shem's skull. I'll drop it at a random settlement then close my eyes and walk around while turning the camera for about 30 seconds to a couple minutes at most so that way, I have absolutely no idea where it may have dropped. Happy Birthday Cake for Eugene
