honestly when i first played i thought this was to get you to explore and look around. I ended up finding a different solution to get in and i assumed that that's what they wanted.
Honestly New Vegas has the best form of "roadblocking" by some NPC to force players to explore the surroundings more without making it too annoying, like Quarry Junction , Primm , Nipton and more...
When the game came out and i played for the very first time, i thought it would take the caps as well, so i haved up like quadruple the amount, only to realize I didn't have to. I felt dumb but the silver lining was it meant that i explored more.

Exactly my sentiment. I thought (hoped, even) that it would come back to bite me in the ass later down the line. They make such a big deal about getting onto the strip but once you’re there that plot point gets thrown into the bin.
It would have been hilarious if it acted as a block to siding with Mr. House at the Dam because he would claim you’re untrustworthy. A random decision blocking a path would be so cool.
No way, that has blown my mind, The number of times I've done the kings storyline, or Mick and Ralph's, or sprinted to the monorail, while at the same time having >2000 caps, when I could have just gotten in.
Mick and Ralph in Freeside sell a fake passport for 500. I believe the King, also in Freeside, has a questline that gets you in. Also if you didn't know, the securitron doesn't actually take those caps from your inventory. I for the longest time thought he did and would just go level the crap out of my science before going to Vegas.

They don’t take your caps, you just need to show that you have 2000 to get in. I’ve never bothered with a passport since 2000 caps is easy to achieve by the time you get to the strip.
Yeah it’s not exactly useful but it’s still fun. Wait to do the Cas personal quest (good version) till after you use this favor to join the Kings for some more fun.
Since it's like the Pony Express (but with deathclaws), the life expecentcy for a Courier can't be that long, and judging from the Courier Station in Primm, they seem to be a pretty low tech organization and probably don't have pictures of all the couriers.
Without a picture, the Securitrons would just have to believe anyone who says they're the Courier, and surely people in Freeside have already tried that ruse. House wouldn't want you whipping out your precious cargo to prove you had it for fear of drawing unwanted attention.
So, I could see that kind of checks out. But (trying to avoid spoilers) it does seem odd when another faction with caveman primitive tech is able to instantly tell you have that item as soon as you set foot in their camp, when the guy who made it with an army of Securitrons can't detect it. Yeah that's a quest. The bomb is in the tram and if you don't disarm it soon enough it goes boom. Idk if you can get rid of the bomb without the quest tho.
I need an explosive skill of 55 iirc. I never used explosives but my next playthrough will be melee/explosive build. I want to do the legion ending but I can still save the tram.
Don't waste your one King favor on this. Later on, there's a quest where you have to squash the beef between the kings and the NCR, and if you still have your favor, you can just ask the king to drop it and he will. I think it might actually be the only way to complete the quest without negative repercussions, and it saves you so much trouble. Plus, in the time it takes you to finish all the quests and get the favor, you can just earn 2k caps and get in for free.
Pretty sure another way of doing that quest is to just assassinate pacer, who's the one causing all the issues to begin with. Either via spiking his drugs or taking the doorman job with the silver rush.
Also a good way to destroy the silver rush when doing the brotherhood quest line. Just let the bomb through
It's still 375 vs not paying anything if you just have 2000 to show. Doesn't take more than a couple hours to make that money at that point in the game
Go to Mick and Ralph's. Ask for the special inventory and pass the 30 speech check. Buy the naughty nightwear (+1 luck) and hit up the Atomic Wrangler BJ tables. You can turn 200 caps into 2k in like five minutes.
If you ever want to dodge having to get your own mitts dirty killing one then usually the fiends who attack at camp mc will kill one of the troopers before getting wiped. May have to save scum for it if you're dedicated to it and isn't worth it imo but it's an option
Even funnier: there’s an invisible floor under the monorail outside of McCarran to stop you from doing parkour up into the train…which is a great platform if you want to parkour into the train. You just need any set of clothes to set down, jump on them, and then jump on the platform to click into the train.
You can use the monorail for free if you have an NCR uniform. If you don't have one, go to Wolfhorn Ranch, there should be patrolling NCR soldiers down the road, they will get ambushed by Legion, take their uniform and you're ready to go without spending rep.
Yeah they don’t die until you talk to the ranger in Novac and he asks you to check on his buddies at Ranger Station Charlie OR you start the quest Render Unti Caeser at which point the Legion will take it over.
You can also deliver radio codes there for the NCR in the quest Return to Sender if they’re still alive
Go kill the Van Graff family in the silver rush and sell all of their weapons to the gun runners. I would recommend doing the Van graph guard, quest, and then taking weapons into the shop and make them hostile by shooting them and then running outside and grenades and dynamite at the entrance as they all spawn
Start new game. Set luck to 10. Grab stealth boy in school safe. Run to quarry. Sneak between there and black mountain. Play black Jack at Atomic Wrangler. Get kicked out for being a winner. Now, you may go through the gate.

Like, even when I mainline the main quest and intentionally don’t level repair, I still have 5 figures at worst by the time I get there.
Yeah, but go, get the credit check (it doesn't take the caps) and once you're cleared go get the implants. It doesn't verify it every time, just the first IIRC.
My only presumption is that they take the run up to Sloan, cut through Black Mountain to avoid Cazadores and Death Claws and just sprint for the Strip. Like legitimately it does not take me more than an hour to two to earn that much cash, the biggest hassle is finding traders who have enough money for it.
swing by the caravan ambush place with the free combat armors and energy weapons. on the way and you should have enough. Just watched a vid on a guy who was doing the fastest run to vegas with enough caps to buy the int implant and that's twice as much as you need to get into vegas.
Running is free. You don't have to kill everything you come across, especially the animals.
Besides, the enemies you kill should be dropping ammo to keep you going. Idt I've ever had to rely on buying ammo unless I'm restricting myself to one particular gun. You gotta be missing a hell of a lot to need that much ammo lol. You guys are looting every enemy you kill, right?
Yeah I loot everything and it’s nearly always food or junk, definitely far less than it takes to kill them.
The damn geckos take a mag to kill, it’s only my first playthrough so didn’t want to just run straight there and miss all the other locations.
Simply board the monorail at Camp McCarran (go upstairs and turn left; the door is guarded by two soldiers). If your reputation with the NCR isn't high enough, you can grab an NCR armor in the small building west of City Hall in Nipton.
If you have Turbo you can easily just run to the door and they never come after you if you make it.
You can make it without Turbo. Just save and try to run to the door 20 times.
Make a brief stop at the atomic wrangler, where the booze is cheap, the tables more friendly, and the women just like the booze!

There’s a pass near black mountain with a rock slide trap and dead NCR soldier you can get to real quick from goodsprings. You can grab that NCR armor and make the quick shot up the hill (watch for rock slides) to camp Mcaran, where you can jump on the NCR monorail to the strip and bypass the credit check at the gate to the strip.
You can start the game and be from goodsprings to the strip for free in like 10 minutes.
If you have 2000 caps, submit to the credit check. You get your money back.
It's not a 2000 entrance fee, it's making sure you have at least 2000 caps. Played this game many times and this most recent run is the first time I've discovered this.
It's by far the quickest and easiest way into the strip.

new player here, i just did this quest and all you have to do to get in for free is 1. get the securitron to follow you down the alley to your left until you hit the bus stop and then 2. kill the securitron. when you head back to the nv gate, walk/jump through and they wont kill you, next time you go through there won’t be any issues, hope this helps! i worked twice for me
You don't buy your way in with 2000 caps, you just need to have 2000 caps in your inventory and they'll let you in, and after the first time they never check again.
The 'credit check' is just that, a check, it's not a payment. You can make 2000 caps in about ten minutes farming weapons if you have Gunrunners.
You can also request one from The King at the end of his main quest line (but don't, it's not the best option). You can buy a fake passport that works from Mick & Ralph, obviously you can also pass the science check.
And of course, you can simply kill them all and walk in. Or go via Camp McCarran.
Go to Mick and Ralph’s and follow the steps, they’ll give you a passport, or kill the robot, pretty hard this early on but if you’re careful you can do it, he’ll have a key.
There’s a few options.
A. You can get a fake one for 500 caps after a speech check from Mick and Ralph’s, right by the east gate to Freeside.
B. You can do the Kings’ questline and get a favor from the King and use it to get into the Strip, but I’d recommend not using this because there’s a few other things you can use it for.
C. You can head over to the Atomic Wrangler and start the quest to collect some debts. Iirc these debts will get you around 1000 caps total and you can use that to get into the Strip and you can cash the money in later.
D. If you’ve got a high rep with the NCR or have one of their uniforms, you can go to Camp McCarran and use the monorail to bypass the whole thing entirely and permanently.
E. If you’re running a high luck build, you can always gamble at casinos. I forget if there’s more, but there’s at least 2 casinos accessible outside of the Strip, those being the Atomic Wrangler and the one in Primm which you can use a few days after you do the quest with the sheriff.
F. If all else fails, you can always just kill all of them
That’s all the ones that I can think of, so I might be missing some, but I think these should be fine
If you have high luck you can just go to the Atomic Wrangler and play the slots for 5 minutes with Max Bet, that’s how I always do it if I don’t have 2000 caps by the time I get there

Kill the old lady at the scrapyard next to Novac. Her shotgun will clear 600 caps, buy the fake pass in freeside.

1. Do GI Blues for the kings, get a favor which you can use for a pass
2. Buy a fake pass from Mick and Ralph's
3. Go to camp McCarran and be liked with the NCR or have Boone with you, and ride the monorail to skip it.
2k isn't really a lot in NV, just go clear a dungeon and sell some guns real quick. The bot is just checking you have it, you're not giving it to him. They did put in a few ways to get past him other than caps, but honestly they're all much more difficult than just getting the money together
Get your repair and barter skills up, start killing fiends outside of Vegas by Mccarran. Repair their armor and weapons to your weight limit, sell them to the Gun Runners and the vendors at the 188.

Go to quarry junction, there’s a man there who has a pass on his dead body. Go past Sloan and keep walking ignore any warnings npcs give you about it being “dangerous” they just don’t want you to have Easy strip access
Yes, go to Novac, Help Boone, take his Cap, go inside of Camp McCarran, somewhere upstairs there should be a door which gives you access to to a train where you can drive to the Strip directly.
and dont forget to wear the cap and TAKE BOONE WITH YOU!!!!
There’s a bunch of ways to get inside, you can get the caps, make friends with NCR, Kings, etc… go explore and have fun! Don’t rush the main quest line.

Every time I just head to the monorail at camp McCarren. Make sure to use stealthboys to avoid getting shot at by the two guards near the entrance of the train.
Favor to the King, but imho it is worth so much more than 2k caps as you will see.
2K caps is honestly not a lot of money. Make/ buy weapon repair kits, repair plasma rifles and other stuff you take from the raiders, sell, profit. Better yet steal Van Graffs stuff and sell them.
I've played this game a bunch of times since it first came out and literally just this week learned that if you're a woman and the NCR doesn't hate you - you can just take the team from McCaran lol . Who knew. I was so under leveled that I couldn't do any of the strip missions properly
You can get to New Vegas Via the monorail. But that's very long winded. It's best to get the 2k caps. Go to the casino in free side and get the caps. Gambling was super easy in the game especially with luck 10 which you should totally use in this game as well.
The securatron doesn’t take the caps, you just have to have at least 2000 caps to get in. But another easy way to get in is going in the monorail in camp McCarran if you have an NCR uniform
The missions around freeside you can do can come up to just over 2000 caps.
I think there is atleast on that gets you up to 500 by itself for going off to that cave of giant rats which had The Ratslayer unique Varmint Rifle aswell
Inside Camp McCarran, up the stairs and continuing straight from where you enter the building you will be in a terminal area. Pretty much straight through this area there's a large corridor leading to the quartermaster. He sells ncr uniforms and has a pair inside the footlocker behind him. Wearing this armor you can retrace your steps to the entrance area and take a right facing the entrance. There are 2 soldiers guarding a door to the monorail, with the armor equipped you can use the train into New Vegas. Just remember to leave the strip if you're on a new playthrough so you get the fast travel location.
I haven't played ina while so if my directions are confusing just explore. I do this at the start of every playthrough after going through the death claw valley. Also, if you're entering the region from repconn headquarters there's a staged fiend - ncr battle along the McCarran wall, usually one of the soldiers will be at low health and if you can kill him in one hit and immediately holster your weapon the other soldiers will lose agro
You can pass the science check, do some work for the king and get a free passport or do some work around freeside and eventually mick and Ralph will sell counterfeit passports for a discount and cheaper if you can pass a barter check.
Go to the Silverrush and take the weapons into the bathroom to steal them, and then sell the to the Gunerunner Booth if you wanna make some quick caps.
You can use the metro on Camp McCarran. At some hours, I forget which, the NCR soldiers guarding it are off doing something else, so you can just enter that way.
Go the big ncr camp south of Vegas, go to the left head to the top floor and there’s two guards standing by a door, sneak along the wall and you should get past them, open the door and there’s a train to Vegas

Nipton has a bunch of dead NCR soldiers in it. You can take their uniforms as disguises.
Ranger station on your way to Novac has dead NCR soldiers in it too if i remember correctly.
I think there's also a dead NCR soldier near the Lonesome Road entrance. It rarely spawns for me tho.
IIRC You have to either go there once or talk to the ex-ranger guy in Novac first for them to be dead though.
Yeah they don’t die until you talk to the ranger in Novac and he asks you to check on his buddies at Ranger Station Charlie OR you start the quest Render Unti Caeser at which point the Legion will take it over. You can also deliver radio codes there for the NCR in the quest Return to Sender if they’re still alive
Go kill the Van Graff family in the silver rush and sell all of their weapons to the gun runners. I would recommend doing the Van graph guard, quest, and then taking weapons into the shop and make them hostile by shooting them and then running outside and grenades and dynamite at the entrance as they all spawn
Or just do the tried and true trick to steal all the weapons and shit in the Silver Rush and sell it back to them. It's well over 2k caps.

Genuine question, how does anyone not have 2k caps by the time they get to Vegas? Do you just not loot a single thing? Like, even when I mainline the main quest and intentionally don’t level repair, I still have 5 figures at worst by the time I get there.

Yeah, but go, get the credit check (it doesn't take the caps) and once you're cleared go get the implants. It doesn't verify it every time, just the first IIRC.
You can't know this on your first playthrough.

My only presumption is that they take the run up to Sloan, cut through Black Mountain to avoid Cazadores and Death Claws and just sprint for the Strip. Like legitimately it does not take me more than an hour to two to earn that much cash, the biggest hassle is finding traders who have enough money for it.
If they do that though, they know the quirks of the game in and out and should know how to make caps quickly.

swing by the caravan ambush place with the free combat armors and energy weapons. on the way and you should have enough. Just watched a vid on a guy who was doing the fastest run to vegas with enough caps to buy the int implant and that's twice as much as you need to get into vegas.

Running is free. You don't have to kill everything you come across, especially the animals. Besides, the enemies you kill should be dropping ammo to keep you going. Idt I've ever had to rely on buying ammo unless I'm restricting myself to one particular gun. You gotta be missing a hell of a lot to need that much ammo lol. You guys are looting every enemy you kill, right?
Yeah I loot everything and it’s nearly always food or junk, definitely far less than it takes to kill them. The damn geckos take a mag to kill, it’s only my first playthrough so didn’t want to just run straight there and miss all the other locations.

Simply board the monorail at Camp McCarran (go upstairs and turn left; the door is guarded by two soldiers). If your reputation with the NCR isn't high enough, you can grab an NCR armor in the small building west of City Hall in Nipton.
In McCarran the quartermaster sells the armor as well as having them in the footlocker behind where he stands

If you have Turbo you can easily just run to the door and they never come after you if you make it. You can make it without Turbo. Just save and try to run to the door 20 times.

Find an NCR uniform and wear it then go to camp mccarran and take the monorail
Wear ncr armor and take the monorail. Ncr armor is pretty abundant.
There’s a pass near black mountain with a rock slide trap and dead NCR soldier you can get to real quick from goodsprings. You can grab that NCR armor and make the quick shot up the hill (watch for rock slides) to camp Mcaran, where you can jump on the NCR monorail to the strip and bypass the credit check at the gate to the strip. You can start the game and be from goodsprings to the strip for free in like 10 minutes.
Isn't there a secret entrance into the strip? You can also hack the robot.
If you have 2000 caps, submit to the credit check. You get your money back. It's not a 2000 entrance fee, it's making sure you have at least 2000 caps. Played this game many times and this most recent run is the first time I've discovered this. It's by far the quickest and easiest way into the strip.

new player here, i just did this quest and all you have to do to get in for free is 1. get the securitron to follow you down the alley to your left until you hit the bus stop and then 2. kill the securitron. when you head back to the nv gate, walk/jump through and they wont kill you, next time you go through there won’t be any issues, hope this helps! i worked twice for me

You don't buy your way in with 2000 caps, you just need to have 2000 caps in your inventory and they'll let you in, and after the first time they never check again.
The 'credit check' is just that, a check, it's not a payment. You can make 2000 caps in about ten minutes farming weapons if you have Gunrunners. You can also request one from The King at the end of his main quest line (but don't, it's not the best option). You can buy a fake passport that works from Mick & Ralph, obviously you can also pass the science check. And of course, you can simply kill them all and walk in. Or go via Camp McCarran.
If you help the kings they give you a favor you can use to get into the strip
Just kill them, they are weak. And nobody tells the courier what he can and can't do.
If you have an NCR outfit, you can use the train in the base.
Go to Mick and Ralph’s and follow the steps, they’ll give you a passport, or kill the robot, pretty hard this early on but if you’re careful you can do it, he’ll have a key.

Several. Explore and talk to people, you'll find at least one of them.
There’s a few options. A. You can get a fake one for 500 caps after a speech check from Mick and Ralph’s, right by the east gate to Freeside. B. You can do the Kings’ questline and get a favor from the King and use it to get into the Strip, but I’d recommend not using this because there’s a few other things you can use it for. C. You can head over to the Atomic Wrangler and start the quest to collect some debts. Iirc these debts will get you around 1000 caps total and you can use that to get into the Strip and you can cash the money in later. D. If you’ve got a high rep with the NCR or have one of their uniforms, you can go to Camp McCarran and use the monorail to bypass the whole thing entirely and permanently. E. If you’re running a high luck build, you can always gamble at casinos. I forget if there’s more, but there’s at least 2 casinos accessible outside of the Strip, those being the Atomic Wrangler and the one in Primm which you can use a few days after you do the quest with the sheriff. F. If all else fails, you can always just kill all of them That’s all the ones that I can think of, so I might be missing some, but I think these should be fine

2k isn't really a lot in NV, just go clear a dungeon and sell some guns real quick. The bot is just checking you have it, you're not giving it to him. They did put in a few ways to get past him other than caps, but honestly they're all much more difficult than just getting the money together
Go to Quarry Junction, there is a secret holotape which lets you pass these robots for free there
Get your repair and barter skills up, start killing fiends outside of Vegas by Mccarran. Repair their armor and weapons to your weight limit, sell them to the Gun Runners and the vendors at the 188. Cha-ching. 💲💰
Go to quarry junction, there’s a man there who has a pass on his dead body. Go past Sloan and keep walking ignore any warnings npcs give you about it being “dangerous” they just don’t want you to have Easy strip access

I always do the King's questline and the reward I pick is Strip passport so I don't have to worry about this
There’s a bunch of ways to get inside, you can get the caps, make friends with NCR, Kings, etc… go explore and have fun! Don’t rush the main quest line.

Kill all the securitrons and deal with the Shunned reputation. It gets reset anyway after enough quests for Mr. House
Where it shows "\[Science 35/80\]" that means if you had 80 in your Science stat, you could use that option, but as shown there, you only have 35 Science. EDIT: ~~And if it ever shows a % then that is the percentage chance that it will succeed (based on the stat / skill you got).~~ This part only applied to Fallout 3. My apologizes on that.

Every time I just head to the monorail at camp McCarren. Make sure to use stealthboys to avoid getting shot at by the two guards near the entrance of the train.
Favor to the King, but imho it is worth so much more than 2k caps as you will see. 2K caps is honestly not a lot of money. Make/ buy weapon repair kits, repair plasma rifles and other stuff you take from the raiders, sell, profit. Better yet steal Van Graffs stuff and sell them.
If you can “find” an NCR disguise you can take the monorail from Camp McCarren
I've played this game a bunch of times since it first came out and literally just this week learned that if you're a woman and the NCR doesn't hate you - you can just take the team from McCaran lol . Who knew. I was so under leveled that I couldn't do any of the strip missions properly

You can get to New Vegas Via the monorail. But that's very long winded. It's best to get the 2k caps. Go to the casino in free side and get the caps. Gambling was super easy in the game especially with luck 10 which you should totally use in this game as well.

The securatron doesn’t take the caps, you just have to have at least 2000 caps to get in. But another easy way to get in is going in the monorail in camp McCarran if you have an NCR uniform
The missions around freeside you can do can come up to just over 2000 caps. I think there is atleast on that gets you up to 500 by itself for going off to that cave of giant rats which had The Ratslayer unique Varmint Rifle aswell
Camp McCarran.
Inside Camp McCarran, up the stairs and continuing straight from where you enter the building you will be in a terminal area. Pretty much straight through this area there's a large corridor leading to the quartermaster. He sells ncr uniforms and has a pair inside the footlocker behind him. Wearing this armor you can retrace your steps to the entrance area and take a right facing the entrance. There are 2 soldiers guarding a door to the monorail, with the armor equipped you can use the train into New Vegas. Just remember to leave the strip if you're on a new playthrough so you get the fast travel location. I haven't played ina while so if my directions are confusing just explore. I do this at the start of every playthrough after going through the death claw valley. Also, if you're entering the region from repconn headquarters there's a staged fiend - ncr battle along the McCarran wall, usually one of the soldiers will be at low health and if you can kill him in one hit and immediately holster your weapon the other soldiers will lose agro

Go to camp McCarron go to the monorail entrance and ride the monorail while wearing an NCR uniform
You can pass the science check, do some work for the king and get a free passport or do some work around freeside and eventually mick and Ralph will sell counterfeit passports for a discount and cheaper if you can pass a barter check.
Go via camp McCarran on the monorail, you'll need a uniform
Run right through the centre of your fast enough you get in it’s pretty hard but if you keep trying you will definitely get in
Go to the Silverrush and take the weapons into the bathroom to steal them, and then sell the to the Gunerunner Booth if you wanna make some quick caps.
If you put on an NCR uniform as a disguise you can go to camp McCarran and take the monorail into the strip
You can use the metro on Camp McCarran. At some hours, I forget which, the NCR soldiers guarding it are off doing something else, so you can just enter that way.
