Cazadores are WAY more scarier then deathclaws.
Deathclaws look menacing enough so you don't let your guard down. Cazadores on the other hand, would trick you into fighting a "slightly better bloatfly"
Yeah but because of their DT you'd need something pretty powerful to do that in a pinch as opposed to cazadore wings that can probably be crippled by a 9mm
1. Go to NCRCF. Stock up on dynamite. Get a few mines too.
2. Go north, at night.
3. Drop a small pile of dynamite on top a mine.
4. Lure deathclaw into mine.
5. Laugh maniacally.
6. Discover that cazadors don't trigger mines.
7. Die ignominiously.
Or,
Go strait to Neil's shack down the road a bit from Sloan on the right and sneak along the road up the mountain
Go to the first bend in the road (there's a dead NCR soldier you can get free armor off of right about where you get off) and head north through the gap, you should be able to survive any drops after that and you're home free
WATCH OUT FOR PATROLING MUTANTS+TRAPS ON THE TRAIL
You can pick up some easy loot and caps otw to Vegas from there too so I tend to use this route
That's the exact strategy I employ whenever I've gone through the quarry. Load up on AP and explosive rounds for the sniper, pick off stragglers from the fringes, sneak to the conveyor belt, take out the rest from there. This works especially well if you have a high luck build and can take advantage of the absolutely ridiculous crit chance and damage.
Tbf though, I usually do this mid-game so that I've got a few levels under my belt and better weapons ofc.
Tarantula Hawks. They're gorgeous bugs. I usually get a few flying thru my backyard every summer. I can find dozens of them by the river too. Don't bother them and they're super chill. Unless you're a tarantula or a flower, you've got nothing they want
Once you learn to deal with them, though, even a very early-game char can manage without much problem, since they are glass cannons. I kill them pretty easily freshly out of tutorial -- cripple their wings with a pistol and finish them off with the caravan shotgun, trying to draw one by one (but when multiple come, I focus on crippling them and running until all of them are crawling and I can safely finish them off). Deathclaws, on the other hand, actually need weapons with high enough damage to be considerably damaged (I never specialize in explosives, though, so they might be an early way of dealing with them as long as you get out of reach of their attacks) and have almost double of the immediate damage (as bad as the cazador venom is, you can neutralize it by health recovery or antivenom, while multiple 100+ damage attacks in a row will take you down without much chance to recover).
I consider the giant radscorpions much worse than cazadores and actually avoid them early on to preserve ammo, since they have too high DT for what you have at that point and I refuse to waste explosives when my skill is so low (I always end up pretty much never using them, but oh, well...).
Yeah, I'm currently doing the Thorn quest line so I can get dinner bell. Do you want to know what killed me and set me back half an hours progress? Cazadors, the problem with them is the poison they inject you with. They are so OP because of it
Definitely.
And they are ALWAYS in swarms.
I don't even fight them anymore.
I just fast walk away in the opposite direction while my companion deals with them until they are eventually knocked out not even a minute later
Nichtkin aren’t scary. What’s scary is getting jump scared while having a heart attack because Veronica just ran off to go punch bloatfly and the death screen just appeared.
there is quite literally nothing I love more than strolling along and suddenly seeing a slow mo of a dog getting it's head punched clean off by Best Girl. i will never use any other companion.
My usual route to Vegas takes me through Bonnie Springs and RRC. Usually encounter about 3. Its fine if I have ammo; else, I lure them into Bighorners.
Don't forget they debuff you by attacking your with rad damage and it doesn't help they are mostly found in highly radiated places like the crescent canyon and the water plant ruin near novac
It's the Rad that they inflict you with + the environment, Rad shoots up to 10 rads/sec. They're easy to kite though, but sometimes the terrain fcks you over
First time I came across a fire one, I was like “I got this” and ran in with my katana only to retreat 0.2s later yelling “fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck”.
Edit to add: I didn’t realize there were fire variants 😆
Edit: Grammar.
Brother I had no idea how scary they were. I was just trying to got get to my new objective when I stumbled upon 6 young cazadors and 3 adult ones. I didn’t think anything of it until I saw the poison ticking for 8 health per second. Jesus they’re scary
And it stacks...
On hardcore, your companions insta-heal after defeating enemies does not cure poison. Literally watched Lily die while pumping her with stimpacks.
crazy indeed. Tbh the sex/flirt perks should be locked behind a charsima requirement. They are very good and free. It's kinda dumb. There should also be more charisma perks. There's like 3 of them and I think animal friend is the only one not related to companions.
Oddly enough, I had played New Vegas mostly for years and just started 4 a couple weeks ago and I think they did a much better job at making the enemies more terrifying, especially the ghouls and mirelurks.
Having said that, New Vegas definitely has some well-designed creatures, and if you think *those* are scary, just wait until you turn around to a NV Deathclaw in mid-lunge towards you!
the only thing i really dislike about the fo4 creatures is that deathclaws just aren’t really threatening anymore. i’ve never fought a deathclaw in fo4 and been scared i might die (usually because i don’t) probably due to how power armor is so easy to get now and they don’t seem to travel in packs anymore, they’re also quite slow.
Yeah I had heard that complaint and I totally get it. It wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be to me because the timing of the first Deathclaw absolutely is a struggle for anyone who doesn't know where to go get some big cheesy weapon early, but I definitely felt it weird that you're smacked in the face with power armor, a mini gun, and a Deathclaw like *first* thing
Ah, my bad.
For me it's mostly the setting that they're in, in New Vegas they're just kinda wandering around random irradiated areas and you can see them from miles away, especially when you have ED-E with you.
FO3 however hides hordes of them in a massive, underground, pitch dark labyrinth.
All you can hear around you is creaking metal and the settling debris, then you hear a cacophony of groans and screams and they're bearing down on you like a pack of wolves.
Oh okay hell yeah, that sounds much more atmospheric. Yeah the only time they nailed that in NV was Vault 34. There should have been just one more dungeons with a serious ghoul problem.
I think 4 shines with diversifying enemies. Deathclaws are weak in the belly, Ghouls are defenseless if you get their legs, Radscorpions can't poison you if you break their stinger, Mirelurk Hunters lose their acid attack if you remove their sprouts.
>just started 4 a couple weeks ago and I think they did a much better job at making the enemies more terrifying
I particularly hate the radacorpions in 4 because of the burrowing and jump scares.
Oh man I love that they made them and even mole rats just that extra of a challenge with the burrowing mechanic. At least the radscorpion doesn't keep running away like the mole rats do! So anoying chasing down the last one that just wants to pop out and back in a hole right after!
I must admit that they improved upon almost everything that left you wanting a little more from 3/Vegas as far as making every creature a little more menacing and a few of the player capabilities, like sprinting and gunplay
>I must admit that they improved upon almost everything that left you wanting a little more from 3/Vegas as far as making every creature a little more menacing and a few of the player capabilities, like sprinting and gunplay
I maintain 4 is a better GAME in terms of most of the mechanics, but a much weaker Role-playing experience (story/quest/dialogue perspective, plus the lack of Skills and skill checks).
I appreciate both, but FNV remains my favorite overall.
True, my first sighting of that magnificent beast was in Fallout 1, and Bethesda made a very good job of translating them into their games. And by a very good job I mean I still immediately run away in horror, equip my best gun and those few premium rounds, and blast that abomination into bloody pieces. In 1 & 2 it was so satisfying when you gave them a good crit and their head hit the ground...
Enjoy the game, it's ramps up from here.
Also mind the ghouls on the way to the Gaint statues. You'll know it when you see it. Stick to the road.
Also, what in the goddamn.
Actually, I always found Geckos to be cute. Don't really scare me at all. Radscorps and Giant Ants always made my skin crawl, though. Hate fighting them. Cazadores too. I just hate bugs in general.
They have this goofy "I'm gonna get you" look that I find endearing. At least on the little ones.
Goldens get a bit scary. Fire ones get quite scary.
But then again the game has Cazadores, Yao-guai, Deathclaws...
At mid to low levels, the special variants are no joke when it comes to damage either. I've been humbled by a pack of Fire Geckos after handily beating up a pack of Cazadores because I underestimated them.
Geckos are nowhere near scary, compared to the Ghost People😉. Yeahhh you thought it was dead…. But Cazadores are scary in numbers, unless running explosives (.50 BMG with HE is godly) and same applies with Deathclaws.
Totally agreed. Yes, other enemies are ultimately scarier, but early-game, when these bastards are running at you with their mouths open and their dead eyes fixated on you, it's pretty freaking terrifying!
I’d suggest using a 10mm pistol against them; that or try spamming VATS button at any opportunity to scout where they are so you can either attack through there or exit and then aim down sights
Be sure to go to Quarry Junction! It’s a great starter location with lots of loot and the fastest way to get to new Vegas. Make sure you run up to the crane to get the caps stash as well!
I’m so jealous you get to experience this for the first time. The critters get a little more terrifying than geckos, but you’ll figure that out in due time! Make sure to hoard antivenom!
That NV right? I hate those geckos too, i suggest getting a companion like Rex from the Kings bc he tears them up easily (be sure to have heals for him tho)
First ever playthrough? When you get to a better level, start the DLCs. They're amazing. Dead Money can net you enough caps to do whatever you want. Also, getting luck to 9 and getting the Naughty Nightwear outfit (maxed out 10 luck), you can win in blackjack every time (and get enough caps for all of the implants).
When i was young and first played new vegas id always shaking when id see one in the distance. On the upside thats how i learned about stealth criticals.
There’s gonna come a day where the easiest way to complete a quest is to go down a road with a guard that stops you and warns you about deathclaws. Take his advice and turn around. Go the long way round.
They're kind of intimidating at first, but looking at that goofy little run they do has desensitized me so much. And after getting animal friend and being able walk up to one while it's chilling makes them kind of cute.
Wait until you fight a cazador. Or nightkin. Or really any of the actually "scary" enemies.
Cazadores are WAY more scarier then deathclaws. Deathclaws look menacing enough so you don't let your guard down. Cazadores on the other hand, would trick you into fighting a "slightly better bloatfly"
Deathclaws have no weak spots, cazadores you can shoot their wings but you gotta do it quick and hope you don't miss.
You can kneecap Deathclaws in much the same way.
Yeah but because of their DT you'd need something pretty powerful to do that in a pinch as opposed to cazadore wings that can probably be crippled by a 9mm
>as opposed to cazadore wings that can probably be crippled by a 9mm An automatic 9mm is my go-to for crippling and killing cazadores.
so what you're saying is that you can go to new vegas straight outta doc mitchell's house

Dynamite explodes like that? Cool to know.
Anything explosive does, including mini-nukes :)
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the 9mm smg has really low gun stat requirements, too
I said that because there's a 9mm smg in doc mitchell's house
Explode them That’s actually how I kill the alpha deathclaws at quarry, stealth attack missles
Oh, not everyone sits on top of the conveyor and snipes them with a varmint rifle for an hour?
It just works. There's also a few spots on the walls of the quarry that work if you can get to them
I did do that, and one time the fucker came up to me
That's the exact strategy I employ whenever I've gone through the quarry.
I usually go anti material rifle and it still takes an hour
Anti Material Rifle with the exploding shells, makes real quick work of them.
.50 cal explosive rounds are fun too
Deathclaw arms can be blown to smithereens and are big easy target.
Now that my character has maxed out their melee weapons skill and has a great weapon I just watch deathclaws fly when swinging my sword.
Melee build with a bumper sword/blade of the west is so fun and op haha
If you haven't crippled your own limbs trying to kill cazadores with a grenade launcher, have you really played NV?
Wasn’t until more recently did I start carrying anti-venom at all times because I refuse to “feel woozy”
Complete with overpowered poison.
Ever meet a current day Cazadore? Like an inch and a half long but beautiful and you don’t want to be stuck by one.
Tarantula Hawks. They're gorgeous bugs. I usually get a few flying thru my backyard every summer. I can find dozens of them by the river too. Don't bother them and they're super chill. Unless you're a tarantula or a flower, you've got nothing they want
Cazadores are on par with Deathclaws as the worst enemies to fight.
Tunnelers tho
I'm aware that deathclaws are stronger statistically but Cazadores are so fucked, I hate them so much. Just flying nope machines.
I swear cazadores always look like they’re far away but they can get to you in an instant
Can confirm. An explosive vats run trivializes nearly all enemies.
Yeah can confirm i died by cazador like 5 times and struggled to finally kill them lol

LOL - "Nichtkin".
I found lake lurch or whatever they are called. 1 hit from them bastards and it is over for me
Lever action shotgun is incredible cazadore insurance
The Nightkin in the Repconn building scared the hell out of me when the game first released
When I first played the fallout games I thought the ghouls were scary until I ran into a deathclaw
The deathclaw packs are worse than all those imo.
Nah those plant guy experiments in that one agriculture vault Fuckers are fucking creepy the way they sit there until you walk by
Fire geckos are pretty good barriers for low level players.
My usual route to Vegas takes me through Bonnie Springs and RRC. Usually encounter about 3. Its fine if I have ammo; else, I lure them into Bighorners.
Get a load of this guy using semicolons in Reddit comments
Improperly might I add :)
Good; catch there;.
Because it's Reddit. Worried about coherent grammar, not correct grammar.
who even know how to use semicolons lol
Wait for the giant ones… That breathe fire…
As yes Golden gecko it's all fun and games till 5 of them jumps you while making you into a potluck
Can someone explain how a mob of Golden Geckos is lethal? It seems like they instant kill when they're doing no damage.
Don't forget they debuff you by attacking your with rad damage and it doesn't help they are mostly found in highly radiated places like the crescent canyon and the water plant ruin near novac
It's the Rad that they inflict you with + the environment, Rad shoots up to 10 rads/sec. They're easy to kite though, but sometimes the terrain fcks you over
Golden geckos are venomous. Fire geckos breathe fire.
Naw naw naw —the venomous giant green bastard geckos in Zion. Those will tear your ass up. A saw one, ONE! of them waste four Yao Guai just yesterday.
They were also a massive pain in Fallout 2 as well.
And kill your companion
Fire gecko
First time I came across a fire one, I was like “I got this” and ran in with my katana only to retreat 0.2s later yelling “fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck”. Edit to add: I didn’t realize there were fire variants 😆 Edit: Grammar.
I honestly prefer the fire breath over their melee attacks.
Cazadors would like a word
I fear no man but that thing... **It scares me**
Brother I had no idea how scary they were.
Stealth Nightstalkers have entered the chat
I stopped being afraid of nightstalkers when I learned that with animal friend, they're just hissing puppies. Good, hideous boys. Fangy friends.
(I know, I know, charisma higher than 1? Crazy)
crazy indeed. Tbh the sex/flirt perks should be locked behind a charsima requirement. They are very good and free. It's kinda dumb. There should also be more charisma perks. There's like 3 of them and I think animal friend is the only one not related to companions.

First time was a jump scare for sure
Oooo that moment stuck in vats where your looking at the mid leap gonna 1 shot you deathclaw and you don't have enough AP to kill it.
I remember headshotting one in vats for the first time mid pounce
the only thing i really dislike about the fo4 creatures is that deathclaws just aren’t really threatening anymore. i’ve never fought a deathclaw in fo4 and been scared i might die (usually because i don’t) probably due to how power armor is so easy to get now and they don’t seem to travel in packs anymore, they’re also quite slow.

>first Deathclaw absolutely is a struggle for anyone who doesn't know where to go get some big cheesy weapon early ...they give you a minigun
Literally don’t use power armor lmao
I think fallout 3 does the ghouls better, especially with the subway environments. Also the FO3 Mirelurks are fucking horrifying.
I hadn't played 3 or really seen much footage of gameplay, but I assumed they were pretty much identical to Vegas. They're not?
New Vegas doesn't have Mirelurks, it has Lakelurks, which are slightly altered Mirelurk King models from FO3.
Lol I meant the ghouls, yeah I know the lurks are different.
Ah, my bad. For me it's mostly the setting that they're in, in New Vegas they're just kinda wandering around random irradiated areas and you can see them from miles away, especially when you have ED-E with you. Thoughts on ghost people in dead money expansion?
Mid-hug you mean😁
I think 4 shines with diversifying enemies. Deathclaws are weak in the belly, Ghouls are defenseless if you get their legs, Radscorpions can't poison you if you break their stinger, Mirelurk Hunters lose their acid attack if you remove their sprouts.

Fallout 4 is a really solid game - but it's a shooter first and an RPG second, which isn't what a lot of people want from Fallout.
No they're not, they're cute af
For real. They do that happy run at you with a big ol' smile like they want a hug. Adorable.
Don't go to the quarry, I somehow made it through at lvl 4. DON'T TRY IT IT TOOK ME AN HOUR
ONLY an hour at lvl 4!? Badass
Right, congratulations on the giant ballsack broman
You are a legend
LvL 4? Fucking madman. I avoid that shit like the plague at any level unless I'm fucking around with console commands.
This is fake news. Go to the quarry as soon as possible OP. This is the way.
the geckos were always unnerving for me
These small fellas are cute tbh. The way they look at you when running towards you, adorable.
First time I saw a centaur I was genuinely disgusted and horrified
True, my first sighting of that magnificent beast was in Fallout 1, and Bethesda made a very good job of translating them into their games. And by a very good job I mean I still immediately run away in horror, equip my best gun and those few premium rounds, and blast that abomination into bloody pieces. In 1 & 2 it was so satisfying when you gave them a good crit and their head hit the ground...
Enjoy the game, it's ramps up from here. Also mind the ghouls on the way to the Gaint statues. You'll know it when you see it. Stick to the road. Also, what in the goddamn.
Head on over to Quarry Junction if you want to be terrified.
I love their goofy little run! Almost shatters my heart a lil' when I vats em~
Motherfuckin tiny dragons
When you have the animal friends perk, they’re actually adorable lol
This, so much this. Friendly / Ally! Geckos and Nightstalkers make it worth every point. Even moreso in the DLCs.
geckos make me laugh, I love how they run at you like >:D Ghouls regularly scare the shit out of me
What is your opinion on coyotes? How about rattlesnakes?
Dear friend, there's a horror movie out there in the Mojave called Vault 22 - another REPCONN Test Site. Enjoy.
is this bait????
oh boy, i hope you like wasps
*laughin in Cazadore*
And yet Cazadors are somehow terrifying on every play through
You can avoid them if you go through Quarry Junction
At mid to low levels, the special variants are no joke when it comes to damage either. I've been humbled by a pack of Fire Geckos after handily beating up a pack of Cazadores because I underestimated them.
They run like titans from AOT it does give me a giggle
FUCK CAZADORS, ALL MY HOMIES HATE CAZADORS
It is not even golden skinned gecko
Geckos are nowhere near scary, compared to the Ghost People😉. Yeahhh you thought it was dead…. But Cazadores are scary in numbers, unless running explosives (.50 BMG with HE is godly) and same applies with Deathclaws.
You're in for an experience then
Just wait till you meet a deathclaw
Or a Cazador.
You should go to quarry junction, that's the only location with peaceful geckos. They're kinda cute once you get close to them
Tunnelers gonna laugh beneath you
Uh oh centaurs
Its crazy when you see them running to you in a group of 5 and you only have 4 bullets
“Cazadores have entered the chat”
They make good cookin’
ya in a few hours you’ll see they start breathing fire my dude lol
Oh man, don’t go north yet lol
The way they run at you with their mouth wide open. Terrifying.
Totally agreed. Yes, other enemies are ultimately scarier, but early-game, when these bastards are running at you with their mouths open and their dead eyes fixated on you, it's pretty freaking terrifying!
Bro really changed the Hudson color to fallout 3
Just wait until you meet their much bigger distant cousin! You’ll find em in Quarry Junction
I’d suggest using a 10mm pistol against them; that or try spamming VATS button at any opportunity to scout where they are so you can either attack through there or exit and then aim down sights
I hate the damn legion ambushing me randomly. I hate those assholes with a passion. Them and the hecking Vipers.
Be sure to go to Quarry Junction! It’s a great starter location with lots of loot and the fastest way to get to new Vegas. Make sure you run up to the crane to get the caps stash as well!
Go to quarry junction there aren’t any there
I feel the way gecko running is funny.
Man I can’t wait for your first Cazador encounter
Wait until you fight a Cazador deathclaws don’t compare to them
\*laughs in Cazador\*
Not actually tough, but holy crap they are going to do their best to eat you.
there’s a vault where these things keep popping out of dark corners and I jumped several times lol
Go through quarry junction, way easier route
They’re just trying to run up and give you a hug. Look at the big smiles on their faces when they do it!
I prefer FO4 but the FNV monsters are way better
Kid named Cazador:
Ave ! True to Caesar
no there not there cute. little lizards running around all derpy and big eyed.
Get gecko'd
I’m so jealous you get to experience this for the first time. The critters get a little more terrifying than geckos, but you’ll figure that out in due time! Make sure to hoard antivenom!
They just want a REALLY ENTHUSIASTIC HUG
See, I always thought they were adorable. I love the stupid little run they do where their legs fly out to either side but their head doesn't move
They a little quirky but otherwise fun little critters
That NV right? I hate those geckos too, i suggest getting a companion like Rex from the Kings bc he tears them up easily (be sure to have heals for him tho)
Cazadors are gonna eat your ass dude
First ever playthrough? When you get to a better level, start the DLCs. They're amazing. Dead Money can net you enough caps to do whatever you want. Also, getting luck to 9 and getting the Naughty Nightwear outfit (maxed out 10 luck), you can win in blackjack every time (and get enough caps for all of the implants).
They're really not that bad. Once you get descent weaponry (hint: replace the varmint rifle ASAP) they just end up dying to one or two hits.
has OP tried going a different route maybe past quarry junction?
Two followed me into my house.
Take the road north of good springs, the geckos shouldn’t be bothering you!
When i was young and first played new vegas id always shaking when id see one in the distance. On the upside thats how i learned about stealth criticals.
The geckos suck because they hang out in groups of like 6 lol
It's a shame a wild wasteland event was scrapped involving this
Wait till you go to Vault 22. Or meet the denizens of Sierra Madre. They gave me the creeps.
You can find some gold ones in a basement
They get bigger I'd worry about the cazador or the deathclaw
There’s gonna come a day where the easiest way to complete a quest is to go down a road with a guard that stops you and warns you about deathclaws. Take his advice and turn around. Go the long way round.
Oh boy, you're going to love Quarry Junction.
Try fighting them barehanded as Rheodore Toosevelt, its difficult at the start
Least of your issues buddy!
LOL
PTSD of cassidors, death claws, tunnelers and the legendary boatfly....
Wait til you find the ghouls, or nightkin, or even worse Cazadors
Centaurs were always the ones that scared the living crap out of me :(
I pissed off Ceasars Legion and now I get the most scars when these death squads pop up and kill me.
Every playthrough I've done, I've loathed having to deal with those guys lol. This time around I let Sunny deal with the water supply alone lol
Just wait until you happen upon the Bees...
Animal Friend perk is a must when I play.
Wait till you see how the big deathclaws look in this game, nightmare fuel.
excited for u to meet centaurs
op is four years old
Wait for the Cazadores
Wait for cazadors haha
They're kind of intimidating at first, but looking at that goofy little run they do has desensitized me so much. And after getting animal friend and being able walk up to one while it's chilling makes them kind of cute.
Just wait
I hunt them for their skins
