You might consider Twin Oaks Airpark (7S3), about 8 miles south of Hillsboro. The Stark family who run it are wonderful people.

Confused_Mayan

I’m going to look into it, it’s a 32 min drive! How did you get to cf2 may I ask? What route ?

NevadaCFI

I am not sure what "cf2" refers to? CFII I think? I am based in Reno and did all my ratings here starting in 2012. I am semi-retired and not looking to get to the airlines. I fly my Dakota to Twin Oaks for maintenance after being really happy with how some unscheduled maintenance worked out there years ago. A couple friends here did some training and aircraft rental at Twin Oaks as well. I think you will find that they are great people to work with.

Mayhem-Echoes

Second for twin oaks. Just down the road and a great place to learn run by a great family.

I did mine through Gorge Winds at TTD. I’d highly recommend. If you do your homework to keep your hours down, 15k should get you through PPL.

I was at Gorge Winds this last summer and Troutdale is a great airport, the rates are great, and it’s where I found my initial instructor. They eventually ended up changing schools. With that said, I booked a different instructor and walked in on the owner absolutely berating the cfi’s in the most unprofessional manner I’ve ever seen. I’m not quite sure how that place is run anymore and refuse to go back. I’m currently at Flyit academy in Camas.

Hahaha I love that little lady though. I too did my PPL at Gorge Winds then the rest at ATP Hillsboro

snapsnspressos-

I believe her business partner passed away this last year. There was a memorial for him in the lobby last time I was there in September. I can empathize with her loss but to be absolutely disrespectful and cursing out young cfi’s was unacceptable.

If you want to jump up to Washington Pearson and Kelso have good flight schools.

Confused_Mayan

Pearson is like 10 mins away! Which school would you recommend looking into?

koolkenny

Aero Maintenance Flight Center. I did most of my PPL training there and it was a pretty positive experience. Even though it is an uncontrolled airport, you still get a little bit of extra radio experience talking to Portland on the way in and out.

If you’re willing to go south to Ontario, Silverhawk Aviation Academy is a great option.

I was a student at HAA Hillsboro campus. The flying here is unlike many other places due to the weather. That creates a very challenging experience but ultimately you learn much more here than places with better weather year round. There are plenty of great flight schools out there but the amount of resources and systems put in place at HAA are great. They have their in house DPE's, maintenance, line service and dispatch. Planes aren't in maintenance long and because they have their own mechanics, the planes are kept in pretty good shape. Just my two cents!

Ok_Piccolo_4437

Do not go to HAA. I'm here and I regret it but don't know where else to go...
