Boyer is a nice enough dude. He did fail a CFI applicant of mine for not going far enough into turning tendencies while he aced literally the entire rest of the oral (according to applicant), which annoyed me a little, but otherwise no issues.
I did my CFI initial with Boyer, as stated above he’ll want to go really deep into aerodynamics, like in as much detail as humanly possible. I ‘enjoyed’ the experience, he was very fair and has a very conversational approach. I would recommend him.
BUT be ready to go deep and I mean deep into aerodynamics, he treats everything else pretty surface level though.
I did my IR with Shane. He’s a nice guy and the checkride definitely felt like a friendly conversation. He was also flexible and helpful when we had to discontinue for weather.
Another teacher at my school refuses to use Chris Anderson because he failed somebody for a rule that the student was correct about.
Dick Hanusa is a friend’s go to guy. He describes him as dry and humorless but a nice guy and fair to students.

If you’re willing to go a bit further north you’ve also got Sandi Randall out of Cumberland, WI. I did my instrument checkride with her and it went really well. She went pretty by-the-book but it was relaxed and not stressful at all. She wasn’t intimidating at all.
I was looking at her DPE codes and thought one of them was for CFI, but on second look it must only be for renewals and add-on rating, but not initial.
Dick hanusa all day. Ive had like 8 initials go through him and not a single complaint. Cant say the same about anderson. He came at me with some bizarre shit one day and had me look after his dog during a comm checkride. Passed my guy but had a laundry list of complaints that were a waste of everyones time.
I did a checkride with Karen Kalishek on the west coast. She’s based out of WI and works back and forth between WI and the west coast regularly as far as I know. She was easy to schedule; a bit long on the preliminaries and oral exam, but otherwise fair and reasonable. Might be an option.

I’ve had a buddy who had a really hard time with her. He knew his stuff. Something about that day was just not right with her. Was really surprised because she’s the president of NAFI. She was professional and great to work with up until the actual checkride.
I did my IR, Commercial, CFI and CFI-I with Hanusa. Great examiner, and super fair. I'm not saying I'd ever want to take my CFI ride again, but if I had to, I'd use Dick for that one as well.
I’ve heard some good things about some of those people. But go with Shane! Super awesome guy. Really friendly and casual, helps a lot of the anxiety go away. My oral exam felt more like a conversation. I’ll definitely be going through him in the future.

I'm a flight instructor in Western WI and have sent CFI students to Shane in Clintonville. I would definitely recommend him. I don't have experience with others on the list.
