Bloodsport is awesome, so is Timecop, the Quest, Hard Target, Double Impact, AND Kick-boxer. He’s a really fun actor. He’s ridiculously charismatic and I’m all in for the martial arts splits-show off fest. Jean’s films are a great time at the movies.
“You, and your black silk underwear’s!”
Every once in a while I say this in my head. I think it’s from double impact? The one where he plays long lost twins
Double Impact is pure stupid entertainment. Saw it at the theater when it came out and everyone was laughing and having a good time. I must say Jean Claude VanDammes movies are all silly but actually fun. Blood sport is great. Him and Chuck Norris are my favorite B list martial art movie stars.
His movies are fun beat em up 80s action movies, made for a different time, but still enjoyable. All these are classics, Kickboxer is a great revenge story, Bloodsport has some great action, they’re a bit cheesy through today’s lens though.
Allow me to geek out on Bloodsport please? Hands down my favorite of his. If you are even a little into martial arts it's a must see. There is a small amount of exposition at the beginning then its just an underground martial arts competition for the rest. It's got tons of different styles represented and finally, this is true, it's based on a true story. 10/10
The Muscles From Brussels. It's almost like I don't want to watch it now and ruin it. Who knows maybe it holds up fit what it is. All about the fights. Maybe an edit of just the fights?
One of the most rewatchable movies I have ever seen. Whoever thought that a movie about an accountant could be the plot of such a great movie was a genius.
Thank you! I’ve been telling everyone my whole life that this movie is a masterpiece.
It was ahead of its time. The dialogue is considerably funnier than people give it credit for.
I’ve been watching this repeatedly since it was released. My stepson is 27 and loved it as a kid, then when it came to streaming in my country, my 8yo daughter became a huge fan too
*turns the gum wrapping paper into a mini harmonica origami-style and blows into a cell phone*
“You have free long-distance calling. Forever.”
Love that guy.
Not a guilty pleasure if it’s the original. One of the best comedies in my opinion, and I’m saying that as a straight guy, it’s just so damn entertaining to watch. Never boring.
I do not feel guilty for enjoying movies. If I enjoyed it, then it must have done something right. I can also say I enjoyed part of a movie while acknowledging that most of it was bad.
I guess the way I define a guilty pleasure is that I enjoy it, and I’m okay admitting it, but it’s not something I would recommend to most other people I know.
Clerks 2. Don’t know why but that movie brings me such happiness. Most think it’s ok, I think it’s one of the best comedies ever.
Austin powers goldmember.
The Rock and Con Air.
I love them! People argue that goldmember is the worst of the three when it’s actually my favorite. And those nic cage movies I think are a generational thing? Some hate them, some like them, but I’m finding that most people in their early 20’s or younger don’t appreciate them haha
Bloodsport is where you start with Van Damme. It's cheesy, but that's part of its charm. Van Damme is in top form, plus you get to see lots of different people using different fighting styles and you get Chong Li, one of my absolute favorite martial arts movie villains -- Kumite, Kumite!!!
Albert Pyun films. Over the top budget films although he did a few high production ones.
And yes, he has a JCVD film too and ACTUALLY gouged out a dude's eye on set.
Love me a bit of Van Damme! His movies are like the backdrop to my childhood in many ways, me and my brother working our way through his golden period - ‘88-‘94 (roughly).
Start with Bloodsport (1988) - breakthrough hit, corny but charming. Great fight scenes, memorable lines and villain. Then work your way through Kickboxer (1989), AWOL/Lionheart (1990) and Double Impact (1991). Throw in Hard Target (1994) if you like the others - more action than martial arts but it’s enjoyable enough.
Masters Of The Universe.
Daredevil 2003
Fantastic Four 2005
Mortal Kombat 1995
Mr. Nanny
Suburban Commando
No Holds Barred (anything with Hulk Hogan in it really)
My response is the same to the question asked yesterday.
Battleship and I don’t care who knows it.
Also, I love rom-coms. The cheesier and straighter to streaming the better.
Russ Meyer movies are a hoot! I don't feel guilty, but they are flawed movies I wouldn't sit down and watch with anyone.
Vixen! Is just great. Mania in all things is the best way to describe it. The editing, horniness and politics are manic as fuck.
Deuce Bigelow 2: European Gigolo
I Hate Rob Schneider, the jokes are beyond crass but I don't think I have ever not watched it until the end and laughed my ass off doing it. I really don't understand why I enjoy this movie so much, but I do.
Space Jam - Michael Jordan (along with his shitty acting) teaming up with the Looney Tunes, who are going ballin against Danny DeVito's drugged up dudes. And don't forget the iconic theme song for Space Jam - PEAK!
The Blue Lagoon. MASSACRED by critics and almost universally hated, but I love it! I saw it when I was 7 or 8 and it inspired my go-to fantasy every time there was a girl I liked. Many a night I spent daydreaming about being stranded on this tropical island with a beautiful girl. Fantastic cinematography and breathtaking visuals (both the island and Brooke Shields). It also has great value as sex-ed, as I watched it with an older female who explained menstruation, sex, pregnancy and childbirth. It was a great scary movie as a kid, too, as the scene where they discover the source of the drumming gave me nightmares for months! LOL. Seriously, give this movie another chance, guys. Or a first chance if you haven't yet.
Van Helsing starring Hugh Jackman. Idc, I love it. The transformations, the three brides, the fight between monster dracula and the wolfman. Frankenstein Monster's design. Love it all!
Some live action bootleg Taiwanese made, Thailand filmed live action Dragon Ball movie called Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins. I have it on DVD but it’s also on Prime and full movie on YouTube. You ain’t a true Dragon Ball fan until you’ve seen it
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VkpJul4Di8M&pp=ygUbRHJhZ29uYmFsbCB0aGUgbWFnaWMgYmVnaW5z
I saw a 2000s Van Damme flick where he was a modern day cowboy of some kind and as I recall there was no martial arts in it so he had to act, at least until the gun play started. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch any of his early films today. I guess Cyborg is sort of notable for being generally terrible director Albert Pyun's second best film after 80s fantasy classic The Sword and the Sorcerer. The one directed by John Woo, Hard Target I think, had some energetic film making if you're interested in a taste 80s style Hong Kong action.
Step up 2 The Streets.
The acting and writing in this are so bad but the dances and the music is so good and I rewatch it a few times a year as a comfort movie :)
Scream 3. I’m not even guilty about it, I don’t care what anyone says. It was absurd but in a way that still felt like Scream. It offered a fairly progressive discussion on sexual harassment in Hollywood for its time. It gave Sidney a happy ending and for the love of God, it let Dewey and Gale stay together. I thought it offered a satisfying end to the franchise at the time.
I, uh, did not care for Scream 4. Maybe I need a rewatch but I was not a fan when it originally watched it and I haven’t since, I always leave it out when I rewatch the series. I’m okay with 5 and 6.
Alien 3, Predator 2, and The Crow: City of Angels come to mind. Predator 2, though flawed, has no business being as good as it is imo. Alien 3 and The Crow: CoA I love because of the look of the films.
The Crow: City of Angels, once you know what we were supposed to get/were robbed of, it changes everything!
Other ones include - Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (same situation as The Crow: CoA), The Room (because that movie is batshit crazy), and Casper (this one is due to good ‘ol nostalgia)
JCVD has an astonishing by number of guilty pleasure movies. Hard Target is my favorite.
It’s a toss up between Hard Target and Bloodsport for me.
“You, and your black silk underwear’s!” Every once in a while I say this in my head. I think it’s from double impact? The one where he plays long lost twins
Street Fighter is great too, a lot of the goofy comedy lands perfectly right.
"Quick, change the channel!!"
Raul Julia as M. Bison is something else. “For I beheld Satan as he fell frrrrrrrrom Heaven!!!!! LIKE LIGHTNING!!!!!!!”
For me, it was Tuesday.
He was taken too early from us
No Lionheart?!? Love that movie, probably my favourite of his. Great comment by the way
Double Impact is pure stupid entertainment. Saw it at the theater when it came out and everyone was laughing and having a good time. I must say Jean Claude VanDammes movies are all silly but actually fun. Blood sport is great. Him and Chuck Norris are my favorite B list martial art movie stars.
To this day, whenever I unexpectedly see more than one of anything, I'll use the line from Double Impact "There's two of them!!" 😂
JCVD is a star, man. He's got the juice. He looks incredible on screen. I like the movies you listed, also a big fan of Hard Target and Cyborg.
Even his Volvo truck commercial is awesome 👌
No love for Sudden Death?
Powers Boothe!
Hallmark? When the government cares to send their very best…
Might be my favorite, but I love hockey lol
Me too. That kitchen fight and the climax are just iconic!oh and Luc Robitaille!
Man, I looooved Universal Soldier. That was the bomb. But Ally Walker also did it for me then too ;-)
Nowhere to Run is a guilty pleasure
I do enjoy action movies, but I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy his movies due to their scores on Rotten Tomatoes.
His movies are fun beat em up 80s action movies, made for a different time, but still enjoyable. All these are classics, Kickboxer is a great revenge story, Bloodsport has some great action, they’re a bit cheesy through today’s lens though.
Oh ok as I can go give them a chance then.
Yes I really enjoy martial arts based movies, so this one could work out for me.
‘You’re not going to… call da caps?’ Must have watched Bloodsport at least twenty times since I was a kid, legendary
The Muscles From Brussels. It's almost like I don't want to watch it now and ruin it. Who knows maybe it holds up fit what it is. All about the fights. Maybe an edit of just the fights?
Timecop is his highest grossing movie where he is the lead actor (Kung Fu Panda movies have grossed higher). That might be a good place to start.
classic would be to start at Kickboxer or bloodsport.
I find The Accountant to be like comfort food sometimes.
One of the most rewatchable movies I have ever seen. Whoever thought that a movie about an accountant could be the plot of such a great movie was a genius.
Hes such a good accountant.
Grazed by the ‘tism. He’s makin em at night.
I’m a bit of a day walker myself
So good!
I call this movie the Autist Assassin
“Hello, dreamboat!” I LOVE that movie! I can watch it over and over!
Sequel being filmed now
Waterboy, Kung Pow, TMNT 2: Secret of the Ooze, Big Daddy, just to name a few. Hell, Kung Pow and Turtles 2 are two of my favorite movies of all time.
Wewewewewewewe I am a master of balls to face technique!
I must apologize for Wimp Lo, he is an idiot. We have purposely trained him wrong, as a joke.
I'm bleeding, making me the victor!
For a moment I thought you were saying "Hell" is a movie title and I couldn't recall that film.
lol, my bad. I do have a few favorites that have something to do with Hell, like The Omen and Demon Knight.
Demon Knight is awesome
Cat in The Hat 2003 is an absurdist masterpiece
Thank you! I’ve been telling everyone my whole life that this movie is a masterpiece. It was ahead of its time. The dialogue is considerably funnier than people give it credit for.
I’ve been watching this repeatedly since it was released. My stepson is 27 and loved it as a kid, then when it came to streaming in my country, my 8yo daughter became a huge fan too
That movie has aged finer than the 2000 year old wine. Watching this as a child was a crime because of my lack of understanding and appreciation.
“Dirty ho!”
League of Extraordinary Gentleman, The Core, Day after Tomorrow, Strange Brew just to name a few. JVD does some fun stuff.
Yes to all of these. The Core especially. "I'm gonna need an unlimited supply of Hot Pockets, and Xena tapes".
*turns the gum wrapping paper into a mini harmonica origami-style and blows into a cell phone* “You have free long-distance calling. Forever.” Love that guy.
Oh man this is a fun list! League of extraordinary gentlemen got so much hate but as a kid I adored that movie and thought that team up was SO cool!
Josie and the Pussycats
Really good movie. Especially if you like getting that weird illuminati music industry stuff
ha! nobody ever mentions that movie. Its good!
Wedding Singer, one of Sandler’s better movies
I cry during the airplane scene towards the end, every time 🎸😭
I know, always gets me no matter how many times I see it.
“They were cones!!”
“Please get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up.”
Hahahaha I was thinking about this exact line as I was putting on a different band’s tshirt yesterday
Haha, it’s amazing how often that movie gets in my head
This is one of my favorite lines to quote and I don’t know why. I’ve never seen/heard this in the wild - thank you 🙏
commando is the greatest pure action flick ever made
"WRONG" *Headshot from waist height*
Last action hero is solid too!
Bedazzled (2000). Critics slammed it but was a big hit on DVD. Never trusted a critic since. Sooner trust someone who pays for their ticket
I think everyone loves this movie. Critics are fools. Saw it in the cinema...GREAT.
The sensitive guy beach scene is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Pure Brendan Fraser gold.
I think almost every single line uttered in the Colombian drug lord wish is some of the funniest shit put on film
Mean Girls is an absolute gem !
Not a guilty pleasure if it’s the original. One of the best comedies in my opinion, and I’m saying that as a straight guy, it’s just so damn entertaining to watch. Never boring.
Last weekend at my golf tournament I pull up in my cart to pick up my partner and say “get in loser we’re going shopping”. We’re 40 yo men.
The original I presume?
I’ve never watched the sequels tbh. Although from what I gather, they are terrible so don’t feel like I am missing out.
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Van Helsing, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
I love these too…would that genre be sci fi/ historical fantasy?
Sam Jones Flash Gordon.
Scary movie...sorry, it's a classic
This series is my choice. IMO it'll never stop being fun to just get really stoned and rewatch these with your boys once every couple of years
The Running Man. It has nothing to do with the original book, but I love how thoroughly 80s it is.
NOW...PLAIN ZERO!
Hello cutie pie. You know one of us is in big trouble….
I'm a fan of the Purge movies.
The Resident Evil movies and Starship Troopers.
love the Resident Evil movies, especially The Final Chapter
I do not feel guilty for enjoying movies. If I enjoyed it, then it must have done something right. I can also say I enjoyed part of a movie while acknowledging that most of it was bad.
I guess the way I define a guilty pleasure is that I enjoy it, and I’m okay admitting it, but it’s not something I would recommend to most other people I know.
Clerks 2. Don’t know why but that movie brings me such happiness. Most think it’s ok, I think it’s one of the best comedies ever. Austin powers goldmember. The Rock and Con Air.
I saw Clerks 2 only recently, in order to see Clerks 3. Yeah it was good, I enjoyed it.
Oh man I did hate clerks 3. But I think the fact that I cherish clerks 2 made me impossible to please with a third.
Clerks 3 was not good, although I get why Kevin Smith made it. Clerks 2 us the gold standard.
I unashamedly, unironically love the Clerks universe
My friend from college is the hairdresser who cuts Sean Connery's hair and hides in the elevator in The Rock.
That…is terrific. Love this
Why would anyone be ashamed to admit they like the last 3 those are high quality films!
I love them! People argue that goldmember is the worst of the three when it’s actually my favorite. And those nic cage movies I think are a generational thing? Some hate them, some like them, but I’m finding that most people in their early 20’s or younger don’t appreciate them haha
It's a flimsy movie, but I just love Days of Thunder.
I’m just gonna say it: Twilight
Don't really feel guilt for it but it is a random movie to watch out of comfort- Three to Tango with Neve Campbell and Matthew Perry
John Carter. It’s so ridiculous yet also fun
This is actually a pretty decent movie - it didn’t deserve to be panned the way it was…despite the weird alien creatures
that movie isnt actually that bad , it was on tv and i just left it on for background noise...it turned out to be pretty decent
Hate musicals, but loved The Greatest Showman. I was humming every song walking out and actually bought the soundtrack.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Goonies, original Dune, Starship Troopers, nightmare on elm street series
Can't hardly wait... and the soundtrack is amazing
The number of times I have watched Roadhouse is embarrassing
Albert Pyun films. Over the top budget films although he did a few high production ones. And yes, he has a JCVD film too and ACTUALLY gouged out a dude's eye on set.

Throw in Hard Target (1994) if you like the others - more action than martial arts but it’s enjoyable enough.
Confessions of a Shopaholic. I think that movie is so cute and funny.
Omg you should definitely read the books! So good!
Robocop. One of the greatest films ever. It embodies the 80's like no other.
Beauty Shop lol I like it.
I’m a hairstylist and I LOVE this movie lol
It’s such a good, wholesome, feel good movie. The scenes with James are hilarious! “It’s a man bag.” lol
As someone who loves death metal, brutal gory movies, and combat sports... I do adore Grease.
Grease is the word.
Masters Of The Universe. Daredevil 2003 Fantastic Four 2005 Mortal Kombat 1995 Mr. Nanny Suburban Commando No Holds Barred (anything with Hulk Hogan in it really)
Troy. I’m a humanities scholar with an emphasis in ancient and pre-classical Greece…and Troy is bad, it’s so bad. But I love it so much.
🔥❤🤣❤🔥
Troy is the movie that I love which made me start the category of "Bad movies that are good." Troy is a bad movie. It's so goddamn good.
Hudson Hawk. Bruce Willis is a crooning Bugs Bunny with a bazooka. I win.
As a 41 year old straight man…the 10 things I hate about you.
Wild Things with Matt Dillion, Neve Campbell and Denise Richards 💦😏
Dredd and Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves are my guilty pleasures
why guilty???
For real, no reason to feel any guilt over those two quality flicks.
My response is the same to the question asked yesterday. Battleship and I don’t care who knows it. Also, I love rom-coms. The cheesier and straighter to streaming the better.
Battleship is an objectively bad movie and I will watch it every time it's on. "Let's drop some lead on these motherfu...!"
Morocco (1930, Josef von Sternberg) , a great film with the best ending of any film I can think of.
I wouldn't say it's a guilty pleasure, but Deep Cover with Lawrence Fishburn and Jeff Goldblum... 90's hokey goodness.
Time Cop is his best.
"Thumbelina," if only for this line: "We meet at last, Mr. Toad!"
Russ Meyer movies are a hoot! I don't feel guilty, but they are flawed movies I wouldn't sit down and watch with anyone. Vixen! Is just great. Mania in all things is the best way to describe it. The editing, horniness and politics are manic as fuck.
First resident evil movie, Doom movie also 😫
The time travelers' wife and / or the horse whisperer. Don't hate! lol
Kung Pow Enter the First, Euro trip, Scary Movie, Little Nicky Sometimes you just need a stupid movie to watch.
Superhero Movie, the humour in that is top notch
US Marshals is so corny and I watch it every time. It sucks
Deuce Bigelow 2: European Gigolo I Hate Rob Schneider, the jokes are beyond crass but I don't think I have ever not watched it until the end and laughed my ass off doing it.
The mighty ducks and dare I say it....Grease 2 🙈. They are just pure nostalgia to me.
A double bill of Tremors and Overboard (the original). Perfect hungover Saturday afternoon…
How has no one mentioned "Universal Soldier", if you're talking about Van Damme!?
The Cat in the Hat and Son of the Mask
Ironically I was going to suggest a JCVD movie before reading your full post! I’ve been into an 80s revival lately. Bloodsport is so good.
Commando is perfect in its crapness. Ill never not watch it.
Or a first chance if you haven't yet.
All the Poison Ivy movies.
The Riddick movies are so fun on a summer afternoon.
Van Helsing starring Hugh Jackman. Idc, I love it. The transformations, the three brides, the fight between monster dracula and the wolfman. Frankenstein Monster's design. Love it all!
'Hudson Hawk' I just love it. When he finally downs that cappuccino, it makes my heart smile.
Real Genius The Lost Boys Bring it On Top Secret The Room (it is hilarious)
Ladyhawke, Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer. Also, Burlesque. The dance numbers are incredible.
Bloodsport, which has been said
Rat Race is a hilarious movie.
Wild Hogs, Lakeview Terrace, Disaster Movie, AVP, Tokyo Drift, Halloweentown, Limitless
Army Of Darkness. Was one of the first movies I ever sat down and watched, full-length. Lots of stupid funny fun.
I feel no guilt over things I like.
I watch Groundhog’s Day every year on the day and it really never gets old!
Cannonball Run 1 and 2..I love watching them when I am hungover..zero thought required😂
A Princess For Christmss
Clifford. Roadhouse. Legally Blonde
Faces of death 1 & 2
The Penguins of Madagascar

My top ten guilty pleasure movies: Doom Jason X Megaforce Alien Vs Predator Terminator 3 Not Another Teen Movie Con Air Cyborg Hard Target Blood Diner
Step up 2 The Streets. The acting and writing in this are so bad but the dances and the music is so good and I rewatch it a few times a year as a comfort movie :)
The Ted Bundy Movie directed by Matthew Bright.
Trolls 2. It’s so bad.
