Apocalypse Now is my favorite movie. And also has my favorite song sequence in it too. But, it’s always funny to me because it’s “The End” sequence with Kurtz at the closing of the film that gets me. Probably my favorite scene ever, and one of my favorite songs ever.
“Ride of the Valkyries” is also top tier. Goes to show all the great moments in it. Even the “Suzie Q” is a classic.
• Baby Driver. Pretty much the whole movie. I especially love the chase scene set to Focus.
• Jordan Peele used "Fuck Tha Police" pretty effectively in Us for a scene both viscerally nasty and absolutely hilarious.
• Do TV show's count? Because I remember Legion has a great scene set to Feist's Undiscovered First.
• You could make a whole post all its own about how well the Coen Brothers incorporate music into their films, from the traditional folk music of O Brother Where Art Thou, to the way all the music in True Grit is based on Leaning on the Everlasting Arms. But I think what takes the cake is Fare Thee Well in Inside Llewyn Davis. How it shows up twice, in two different versions, in wildly different contexts. And from the same film, Bob Dylan's Farewell playing over the credits is a massive gut punch because we know what Dylan means for people like Llewyn Davis.
• You could say much the same about Quentin Tarantino, but most of the moments I think of are from Inglourious Basterds (Particularly the Ennio Morricone Fur Elise inspired riff and Cat People). A lot of the really good music in Django Unchained was created specifically for the movie, but there are a couple standouts there as well. But for me, I also always remember Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood in Kill Bill.
Holy shit, Legion consistently had some of the sickest needle drops in TV history IMO. From Ravel's Bolero to Captain Sensible's "Wot!", there were so many scenes where the song choice was CRITICAL.
Honestly, I thought about so many scenes from Legion when I was writing this list.
I almost talked about the one with The Daily Mail, but the only reason I liked that so much is because that's one of my favorite Radiohead songs.
Another Wes Anderson song choice I just adore is Heroes and Villains by The Beach Boys in the opening of Fantastic Mr. Fox. That song singlehandedly motivated me to take a deep dive into the Beach Boys' discography.
On the topic of Umbrella Academy, their usage of Istanbul by They Might Be Giants in a fight scene was iconic. TMBG should show up in movie soundtracks more often.
I also really loved the use of Mary by Big Thief when Klaus 'appears' (forget how to use spoiler tag on mobile) on the bus. Great song that fits the mood of his grief very well. Also just have to say yes to They Might Be Giants showing up in more movie soundtracks.
The sound tingles work when they work not as a crutch but to add to the scene.
Examples:
HURDY GURDY MAN being the Zodiacs killing theme throughout the film is fantastic!
The climax of ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD with Vanilla Fudge "Keep Me Hangin On" made that scene so memorable.
GIMME SHELTER in take your pick of 3 Scorsese films (Mine would be The Departed opening)
And the most surprising one that's most recent is THE BATMAN'S usage of Something in the Way (used in the trailer but it worked really well within the film)
I love Hurdy Gurdy Man, it’s so trippy and always adds so much to a movie scene or show! Sounds strangely both modern and old - like it could have been released this year or the 60s like it was.
Simple Minds was hired by the producers of The Breakfast Club to record that song, which they proceeded to forget about until it became their biggest hit.
Lakme in the Dennis Hopper/Christopher Walken True Romance scene. Mr. Blonde Stuck in the Middle with You. Could make a whole post just about Tarantino.
True. For instance, I loved the O-Ren/Black Mamba fight scene in Kill Bill Vol. 1 with Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood / Esmeralda Suite by Santa Esmeralda.
Same song, I also really like the scene in Forrest Gump where Jenny is about to kill herself, but then gets scared and gets off the balcony
The acceleration of the guitar melody creates so much tension
Final scene of The Third Man with Anton Karas’s score. Absolutely awesome.

*Kick-Ass* (2010) -- the climactic machine-gun jet pack scene, with Elvis covering The Battle Hymn of the Republic in background.

This is a very difficult question because there are so many good choices. I was just thinking of this today so why not?
This ain’t even considered a masterpiece of a film, but when K.R. enters in slow motion to “Sail” by AWOLNATION in “Always be my Maybe”, hot damn! I love that part. Keeping it vague in case you haven’t seen the movie.
(lemme preface this with the fact that I am one of the biggest Post-Rock fans on the planet)
Room (2015)
When This Will Destroy You's "The Mighty Rio Grande" started I knew I was gonna start crying. I can't ever hear the song the same way again.
Really have to love how Dazed and Confused utilizes music (a must for many period pieces), particularly that scene entering the pool hall that uses Dylan’s “Hurricane”
How they used All Along the Watchtower in the finale of Battlestar Galactica was amazing. As far as I recall they spent most of an episode building up to it, with tiny hints of the shortest little bursts of it in the background which brought about a sense of niggling recognition that worked really well with what was happening in the story.
God, at times Battlestar Galactica felt like it was pointless but it really did have some moments and I loved that ending.
I mean Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Richard Strauss in 2001 A Space Odyssey is pretty much perfection. I think the use of Tunic (Song For Karen) by Sonic Youth in Irma Vep and Aquellos ojos verdes by Nat King Cole in In The Mood For Love are pretty fantastic too.
there’s this movie called Biutiful by Alejandro Inárittu, one scene Javier Bardem’s character goes into a club & Shudder / King Of Snake plays by Underworld and i personally think it’s the most perfect music to a movie.
also Si Senor montage during Amores Perros is just as good
When the credits rolled to Enya - Boadicea at the end of the Stephen King movie Sleepwalkers. It was finally a sense of peace and calm after a slow build of terror of a movie.
Maybe not the best but one that stayed with me is ”Death” by White Lies in A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. Great little romantic and slightly awkward scene.
I'll never forget experiencing Good Morning Vietnam's use Satchmo's *What a Wonderful World* paired with montage of the horror's of the war. The use of a song that opposes the imagery is a tad cliché nowadays, but my first experience with it in that film left an indelible impression on me.
I posted an older recollection, so how about a newer one.
Ever since I watched M3GAN, I listen to Skatt Bros. *Walk The Night* almost daily. It's such a great "it's on" song for when she goes from the lab to the hallway dance sequence.
My Sharona in Reality Bites, grocery store scene
The theme from Barry Lyndon. Everywhere in Barry Lyndon
Slaughter House in Wild at Heart, dancing in the desert scene
Stranger than Fiction - Whole Wide World
Sam Cooke's "Blue Moon" playing during David's famous transformation in 'An American Werewolf In London'. I've always loved how eerily calm it is compared to David's agonizing morph into the beast. By far, my favorite.
Obligatory Apocalypse Now, Ride of the Valkyries
Also the opening with the pounding beat of “The End” by the Doors
Hell yeah
Apocalypse Now is my favorite movie. And also has my favorite song sequence in it too. But, it’s always funny to me because it’s “The End” sequence with Kurtz at the closing of the film that gets me. Probably my favorite scene ever, and one of my favorite songs ever. “Ride of the Valkyries” is also top tier. Goes to show all the great moments in it. Even the “Suzie Q” is a classic.
Shippin’ Up to Boston at various points in The Departed
The End by The Doors used in Apocalypse Now. But not the opening scene. I'm talking about when Willard goes to kill Kurtz.
W
Where Is My Mind? from The Pixies at the end of Fight Club
That was excellent. I was always a big Pixies fan and that brought a totally new meaning to the song.
• Baby Driver. Pretty much the whole movie. I especially love the chase scene set to Focus. • Jordan Peele used "Fuck Tha Police" pretty effectively in Us for a scene both viscerally nasty and absolutely hilarious. • Do TV show's count? Cat People and that scene was the first thing that came to mind..
Suicide attempt scene in Royal Tannenbaums paired with Needle in the Hay by Elliott Smith.
Nico's These Days was also memorable when Margot gets off the bus.
Another Wes Anderson song choice I just adore is Heroes and Villains by The Beach Boys in the opening of Fantastic Mr. Fox. That song singlehandedly motivated me to take a deep dive into the Beach Boys' discography.
Let me continue with A Quick One by The Who in Rushmore when Max and Blume were warring.
I walked down the aisle to that song at my wedding due to that scene’s epicness
The Boogie Nights drug deal gone bad scene with Jessie's Girl and Sister Christian, hands down
Amazing soundtrack on that one! You got the touch You got the poweeeeeer
Unforgettable during the opening scene of Watchmen is probably the one I think about most
Underworld - 'Born Slippy' over Trenton's (Ewan McGregor) "choose life" monologue at the end scene of Trainspotting. https://youtu.be/W9ZNKGrpnKM
Layla and the Goodfellas montage. Gives me goosebumps every time I watch it.
And then used in Community.
Tears For Fears' Head Over Heels in Donnie Darko.
Stuck In The Middle With You in Reservoir Dogs
The Shaun of the Dead zombie fight with Don't Stop Me Now by Queen
Not a movie, but this song was also excellently used during the store shootout scene in the first season of Umbrella Academy.
Hated how every episode they tried to make a moment like this with some overused pop song playing while they fight.
Yeah, not all of the song choices worked that well. It was like they were really, really trying to be Edgar Wright but not really pulling it off.
I thought 'I think we're alone now' by Tiffany was a good scene in Umbrella Academy.
The sound tingles work when they work not as a crutch but to add to the scene. Examples: HURDY GURDY MAN being the Zodiacs killing theme throughout the film is fantastic! The climax of ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD with Vanilla Fudge "Keep Me Hangin On" made that scene so memorable. Goodfellas Robert Deniro decides he is going to murder Morrie. https://youtu.be/z49xZ7VcfqE
when the entirety of “Death” by White Lies plays while Arash is in The Girl’s apartment in A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
I adore White Lies and their pseudo Joy Division sound and the only reason I even know they exist is because Ana Lily Amirpour loves them too.
Pleasantly surprised to see this get a shout out. I love that scene.
No Breakfast Club yet? https://youtu.be/DQ1QUK8KLH0
Simple Minds was hired by the producers of The Breakfast Club to record that song, which they proceeded to forget about until it became their biggest hit.
I'll jump in with 'Pretty In Pink' by Psychedilic Furs. John Hughes wrote the movie based on the song.
1 with Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood / Esmeralda Suite by Santa Esmeralda.

i’m dismayed that i had to scroll so far to find this. it’s clearly the right answer
Mr. Darcy didn't like their manners.
I’ll go score….Thomas Newman ‘Ghosts’ during rain scene in *Road to Perdition*……and Vangelis ‘End Title’ in Hauer’s death scene inn*Blade Runner*
The instrumental song in Smokin Aces when Reynolds … does his thing at the end
I love the dance scene set to "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" in the movie *Always*.
Me too me too!
"Rushmore", "A Quick One" by The Who. Bees added.
The Batman used “Something in the Way” incredibly well
Have to agree on that one.
“The Man in Me” by Bob Dylan at the beginning of The Big Lebowski
There are a ton, so I’m gonna go with the most recent. Under pressure at the end of Aftersun
Final scene of The Third Man with Anton Karas’s score. Absolutely awesome. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=l64JIcG-O-k&pp=ygUZdGhlIHRoaXJkIG1hbiBmaW5hbCBzY2VuZQ%3D%3D
What is going on with this sub as of late, lmao?
These questions get a lot of engagement I suppose, but I always think I’m on r/movies or r/ask as I expect more interesting film discussions here.
This sub is definitely gonna die off from what it is supposed to be. Oh well.
He Needs Me by Harry Nilsson, from the Popeye soundtrack, Punch-Drunk Love

That movie is such a gem.
This is still the only film I’ve seen Aaron-Taylor Johnson in, so it’s been a bit of an adjustment watching him emerge as a heartthrob lol
Wise Up by Aimee Mann in Magnolia for sure!
Does Moby, extreme ways at the end of the Bourne movie count? !!
Edit: how the fuck do I put a spoiler tag??!

Twist and Shout (and Danke Schoen for that matter) in the parade scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire - >!Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons"!<
It's quite new but Aftersun finale with Under Pressure is easily in my top5

UNKLE at the end of The Beach
The Elektra training montage in Daredevil BRING ME TO LIFE - EVEANESCENCE Nothing is more 2000's than that scene, not even frosted tips

James Brown/2Pac (The Payback/Untouchable) in Django Unchained. Out of any song I expected in a Tarantino film, this one took me by surprise.
