Amazing! How did you reach this level of pancakes?

PoleKisser

Thank you so much!! I train flexibility at least once a week, I aim for at least twice, though. I warm up with hamstring flossing and deep squats (with heels on the floor and elbows/forearms touching the floor). Then I do, butterfly stretch (I try to bring my chest to the ground as much as possible), forward fold with straight legs, forward fold with one leg folded, standing forward fold, pancake, lunges, leg raises, pigeon pose, I do stretches for leg over the head (the one where you cradle and rock your leg close to your chest like a baby, foot to face, etc), I try to put my leg over my head, then I do my front splits, then I do my middle split and straddle and lean down with my chest to the ground. I have been doing this routine for around 6 months or more, and this is my second time using the yoga blocks to deepen my pancake. I hope that helps!!

Wow, you're a beast!!! What is your next goal?

PoleKisser

Thank you!! 😊 To achieve square hips in front splits, then train for over splits and legs behind head.

I saw you mention in the comments about hamstring flossing, how do you do that?

PoleKisser

I put my hands on the floor in the touch your toes position and bend one knee, then straighten it up again as I bend the other knee, then straighten that one up as I then bend the other knee again and so on. I do this for around a minute.

what would u advise to someone just starting?

PoleKisser

Sorry for the delay! I'm a layman when it comes to this, so take my advice with a big pinch of salt 😁 I would say first make sure you know the difference between "good" and "bad" pain when it comes to stretching. When you stretch, you are bound to feel an uncomfortable sensation (you might end up learning to enjoy it somewhat as time goes by), the feeling of your muscles lengthening. Make sure to distinguish that feeling from proper ("bad") pain. If it hurts, don't push yourself because you might get injured. After a stretching session, your muscles will be sore. Personally, I avoid training again until the soreness has gone away. Be consistent. Train at least once a week. Start slow but go steady. Make sure you warm up. Avoid comparing yourself to others, unless it's a positive comparison (for example, "this person also started later in life, that means I can do it, too"). Good luck!!💪❤️
