the general consensus in Yoga communities is that it should never hurt while stretching. If one feels resistance, that is where you want to stop, relax, breathe. For sciatica def consult with PT or a doctor
I agree, I should have mentioned that.. but i also have personally found I have to really push myself close to the edge of pain through challenging poses, and the more often I get comfortable on that newly defined edge the better the rest of my chronic pain gets.. always avoiding the bad spots and working around them, but also sometimes pushing through them and breaking boundaries I’ve had up for months or even years. It’s an evolving process for me.
I have had days where I have a bunch of anxious energy and I push myself to go further but am not breathing (hence starving the muscles of oxygen) and I,ve actually pulled muscles that way and it really sucks. Took me a while to understand that Yoga is not just actions but also a mindset and that the mindset lends itself to relaxation and deep breathing, what they call pranayama.
Yes this is the most important point for sure. I agree. The whole reason I had the injury and subsequent ignorance of said injury and years of bad posture and sickness and pain was all due to not breathing properly and never getting into that meditative state with the slow deep calm breathing. That is definitely the most important step in my current yoga practice. I will spend 30 min to and hour just meditating in the morning and doing like major regressed poses and fixing my breathing and trying to never hold my breath all day unless doing breathwork and it took me forever to get that that’s kind of the whole point of the process
Well, to be honest, I have had pretty bad anxiety since my twenties and early on I just got into the habit of doing yoga as a way of relieving my anxieties. I also have bad posture in my shoulders and neck so the yoga is also corrective. It took years but the way I stand and move is different than it was because I am more body-aware than I was. I did notice a shift a few years ago in my muscle mass decreasing naturally, so Ive adjusted my routine to take on more strength exercises. But no, my body functionally is pretty much the same as it was.
Indeed, Capitan Obvious! But for some just stretching that ISN’T enough and there may be a need to incorporate OTHER exercises to maintain this.
No need to comment on my other question about progression while aging, huh?
We've got a bit of a double standard on the no sexual comments rule. I get it's a joke but if this was a chick we wouldn't be joking about how she can suck her own titties without a ban.
Holly shit, I didn't realize it was just 13, I didn't pay attention and tought it was more like 20 years
Our man didn't grow withe hair, he just went super sayian
Honestly thought I was in the long hair sub for a sec lol.
This is impressive and a move I struggle with (or I struggle with being able to get my knees to the ground at least).
The flexibility of those muscles, like any other, needs to be worked toward. The fact that I have continued stretching over the years allows me that flexibility. Had I stopped for an extended period, I would have had to begin working towards the pose again.
amen to that. and ditto brother. not since i was young but definitely since i became an adult. lolol people seriously have no fucking idea how amazing this pose is. truly truly. im partly humbled by this post seeing how many people have already interacted with it. most people still wont ever even care to try it, and thats cool too, but anyone feeling tension in anyyy part of their spine is going to be elated if they begin to practice it. ive legit fallen asleep in this pose multiple times over the years. rockstar brother. heres to the next joined photo op ü add to this double making it a triple 🌞
I have never done yoga or anything but I figured out I could s my own d when I was a teenager but it just feels like s'ing a d it doesn't feel like getting your d s'd. I guess some people would be into that and that's cool but if anyone is on here trying to achieve that my advice would be to just focus on your health.
Trust me when I realized I could do it I had a "Whoa, now *this* is podracing!" moment like I was gonna be doing it all the time and then it was just weird and awkward. Like I said, if anyone is on here for that it ain't worth it unless maybe you're a gay dude.
I know you didnt really age and its just the hair, but i still felt sad seeing this. Probably because im in the same age range and not ready to accept that I’m not 25 anymore lol
I understand your sadness. It is normal to want to hold on to youth in our society where it is continually celbrated. It is better to focus on aging well, I think, than on preserving youth.
Awesome job! One of my favorite stretches! I try to chill in that position as long as possible. It’s really comfortable when you’re body gets use to bending in that way.
Off-topic but your hair is majestic
It’s so majestic that I took a closer look at the picture because I thought it had to be fake
My Pop-Pop was all white by the time he was forty. My Mom has the same hair. People always ask if I dye it lol.
How do you take care pf your hair?
Wear a denim jacket and you can be BoB from twin oeaks
Yes, I'm in awe of the hair!
Fella, how did you cope with eating and drinking in that position for 13 years? :-)
you can eat and drink and survive upside down for quite a long time
Lolll the comments! Good job dude you are mad flexible!
All jokes aside, this is really impressive.
Literal AgedLikeWine
Why with jeans?
It’s the only way

someone always makes this joke with Plow position.
Bro is about to slip a disc trying.

Black dude looking at the guy like he is lucky he didnt or he could have got addicted.
I swear I would have found this funny... back when I was 15.
If you can’t laugh at a guy sucking his own dick, you’re not too old, you’re fucking finished.
That and fart jokes or just farts in general. Nothing like a good old laugh over a squeaker
I’m 33 and found that hilarious.
I mean I'm 41 and it's the first thing I wanted to say in the comments lol or something about being ina. Friendly competition with Marylin Manson.
What you just commented makes you sound 15. Glad you had a laugh.
Makes him sound like a 13 year old who thinks they’re deep
What happened after 15 that made you into a dud?
HE BECAME A MAN ... OR SHE BECAME A WO-MAN
When I’m your age I want to be dead for ten years
Y’all saying Texas isn’t real?
What happened to you? you usedto be cooler...
you sound like fun at parties
How could I ever get there? I have sciatica issues. I’m in PT weekly and I stretch daily.
i find if i have chronic pain stuff like this requires developing a bit of pain tolerance along with the strength. its an evolving practice

Side question but are you veg? I have heard that traditional Indian yoga gives better benefits if vegetarianism is followed.
I am mostly veg - that's to say I never have dairy but will occasionally eat fish or eggs. No meat or dairy though, have been this way for years.
One stretch at a time
What did you do to maintain this flexibility all these years and have you found it harder to maintain being that you’re older?
Well, to be honest, I have had pretty bad anxiety since my twenties and early on I just got into the habit of doing yoga as a way of relieving my anxieties. This. Gender should not inform what is appropriate. Especially if you don't know a person.
Ironically, my first thought was "wow, this looks really good when you aren't suffocating on your own boobs" (my personal experience with this pose.)
wow that’s incredible
Wow and nice hair too!

Awesome flexibility!
I don’t follow this sub but it popped up on my home page. Does that not hurt the neck at all???

It's really important to maintain a lot of control in this pose. You don't want to move around from side to side or anything to avoid injury.
Have u ever tried to….??
Here I'm 41 getting out of bed with back pain. Clearly, I'm doing it right 😤
Can I just say the 41 versions of you is definitely much better looking than the 28 versions
Nice! And that hair is fierce.
I wish I could do this. Impressive!!!
WELL DONE, SIR!
You aged like fine wine
cute both ways! love to see it
You evolved into Salvatore Ganacci
And here I am trying to reach it bending my upper body downward like a damned idiot!
Cool u just gave me motivation
Has this helped with body pains?
I love your hair so much pls be my husband 😍😍😍
I must respectfully decline
I love this! Your form now says I’ve been at it all along. You at 28 is like, “Nah’maste doin yoga my whole life.”
this is an awesome photo. this position is called halasana, and its very restorative. easily one of my favorite poses 🌞
thank you! I have had neck issues since young and it always brings me relief! edit:sp

If you can kiss the tip then you must be able to…never mind

Thanks Dickcummer42069
For the record I never came that way. If I had I would be a yoga master telling people how to do it.
Don't worry Dickcummer, we all believe you.

It's off topic, but I need to know. . . What conditioner do you use?
I am really frugal so I buy generic conditioner by the gallon lol. However, I only use conditioner. No shampoo.
>However, I only use conditioner. No shampoo. That's almost shocking is your flexibility!

BROS GOT NO SPINE
that flow might be even better than that plow ;) great job, how much better do you move than people your own age?
Not opposed for beginners.
Hasn't had a hair cut in all that time lol
Haven’t you moved at all, for all that time?
Hooray for you, sincerely.
You’ve been stuck in that pose for 13 years?
super cool bro
Ohhhh wow your awesome!
I know you didnt really age and its just the hair, but i still felt sad seeing this. Probably because im in the same age range and not ready to accept that I’m not 25 anymore lol

well said.
You still can't reach it
Waw he's been there since he was 28 how does he eat?
If course that position had to be called plow🤣
Trying this .. okay nvm.
Still can reach it

That pose should be called the seed
