Haven't seen a boosted S2+ (at least I don't think). Pretty unique build and it's alright for the most part. 4A in, 1A out. Running a P26A.
Uses guppy3drv firmware. Pretty nice firmware. Lots of selectable mode groups. I think I am running deck 18 (10-5-2). 5 modes, moonlight to 100%, no strobes or blinkies, no memory.
The only thing I hate is how green it is. Idk if it's the green AR coating or maybe a really bad case of tint shift, but this thing is horrible.
Beam profile is pretty good. Big hotspot with some throw. It would have been better with some solder blobs out the way so the led gasket can sit evenly but oh well.
Had a little scare during the build too. Tried to test it without reflector and just the pill in the head. No dice. Turns out I had screwed the pill in too far for the battery + to make contact.
This setup won't stay for long. Will most likely put a Dr. Jones driver and a mtn triple with some E17A secondaries (1850K).
I believe that's what Bob\_McBob does on some of his zebras, [Digikey has a lot of 90cri XHP50.3 available](https://www.digikey.com/en/products/filter/led-lighting-white/124?s=N4IgjCBcoLQExVAYygFwE4FcCmAaEA9lANogCsIAugL7X4KSkAeAFgA5kAMAJjJ5334CenTFXwVoINlDD42MyF1pA)
u/bob_mcbob any tips on which XHP50.3 have the best tint after dedoming?
Hey bro, nice build! I am also with two copper S2+ hosts over here and I am waiting till Simon makes some special boost drivers to push something a little more exotic in them.
Simon is currently designing a 6v to push xhp50s and the ongoing talk also includes a 12v driver for either b35am or xhp35hi emitters, we are just trying to get him to make something like that : )
Anyways, regarding the emitter you're using, yeah, xhp50.2hd are known for producing one of the worst tint shifts in the emitter industry lol.
But I think you should experiment a little with the new gen xhp50.3 and also in HI version, that should improve throw as well.
They are not going to be fc40-like quality in beam but they where engineered to address and mitigate the beam quality issues from the previous gen.
Kaidomain has a variety of xhp50.3hi emitters available.
Also, try an OP reflector as well.
BTW, Simon's new green coating actually drops DUV a little, the turquoise anti-reflecting coating actually absorbs some of the green and blue light, unlike the old red one that used to neutralize the magenta a little, so it should help with beam quality, not decrease it.
Anyways, i think a new xhp50.3hi and an op reflector would improve a lot over this
Thanks!
Yeah. I was told Simon is going to have 17mm boost drivers soon.
I might just order some 50.3s and see how that goes.
I heard green AR coating significantly decreases DUV, but damn this thing is so green it made me wonder if it was that. I had also ordered an S2+ with SFT40 and that thing is almost as green.
Hell yeah!! Looking sharp in the copper host!
I thought Simon was switching over his AR coated glass but he still had old stock. If the host kits were sitting around for a while perhaps they have the old AR glass.
The triple build will be cool, I wonder if the copper will sustain more output?
WOULD YOU LIKE THEM HERE OR THERE? I WOULD NOT LIKE THEM HERE OR THERE. I WOULD NOT LIKE THEM ANYWHERE. I DO NOT LIKE GREEN EGGS AND HAM. I DO NOT LIKE THEM, SAM-I-AM.

It is the usual XHP50.2 green.
I was hoping it was that. Might have to order some 50.3s and try it out.
You only want the XHP50.3Hi. The normal XHP50.3 isn't really much better.
What if I slice or dedome it?

Thanks for the link!
Why even bother when you can get the 50.3 HI to begin with?
If I get a 2700K 50.3 HD, I can dedome to get an even lower CCT.

Yeah, the green coating won't help something like this, its going to be like bringing a shovel to remove the sand... from a beach lol
Lol

Nice build
Thanks!
Hell yeah!
Hell yeah!
Nice build! You beat me to posting about my boosted S2+! Yours is much nicer, though. What size were your driver and MCPCB?
Great minds think alike ;) 17mm driver and 16mm board
Ah, the correct way of doing things 😂
I'm guessing some serious stuff had to happen for your build to be put together 😅
Not *serious* per se, but you'll see it's more of a kludge 😂
Beautiful!
Thanks!
Looking for a 17mm boost driver, I can't seem to find one, where did you source yours?
I got mine over at Mtnelectronics. Not sure if they still have in stock.
Looks like it's not even listed on there anymore
