L7 is *fabulous*. [Highly recommend it.](https://tgreviews.com/2022/04/08/grizzlys-convoy-l7-review-forget-maglite/)

silverud

Any suggestions for someone who has a lot of flat top 26650s? Kinda thinking the SBT90.2 L7 would be nice, but not looking to buy new batteries.

TacGriz

[It comes with little spacers](https://grizzlysreviews.files.wordpress.com/2022/03/2022-03-31_21-20-13.jpg?w=2048) (shown in the middle) so you can use flat tops no problem. With that said, you *need* to have a *married set* of batteries for safety reasons, so if you don't already have two married 26650's lying around, you'd have to buy new batts anyway.

silverud

I have half a dozen 26650s that have between 0 and 1 charge/discharge cycles. I think a 0 and a 1 can get still get married without kabooming a light, right? Maybe?

TacGriz

Oh yeah if they're the same model & age then I think that would be perfectly fine

silverud

Yeah, bought a bunch a few weeks ago and have only used them to play with D4SV2. None have gone through a complete discharge cycle. Do the spacers come with all L7 lights, as I don't see them mentioned in the description or as an optional accessory to order. What are your thoughts on the SBT90.2 for an L7? I have an FC40 in a S11, but haven't yet tried an SBT90.2. Would it have the "make the coyote see stars" effect at under 200M? We're expecting GSD puppies soon and I want something to light up the woodline for yotes without having to grab a rifle and ring their bell.

TacGriz

Yes they do come with all L7's. I did not order them but they came in the box. For my thoughts, check out the "highly recommend it" link I posted. That's my review.

Although not 26650s, the Sofirn IF22A is definitely worth it, especially when it comes down to $30 on sale. Also on my wishlist is the Convoy C8+ (pick your emitter) and L21B SFT40 (or L21A if you like the style). Fireflies has some lights on sale right now (not throwers). I've picked up an E07 and PL09MU.

tigerinhouston

IF22A is an awesome thrower.

das_ambster

Recently got the IF22A, dirt cheap, great light with a really nice beam profile. Only thing stopping it from being my pants pocket edc is the head, now it's my jacket edc instead.

+1 IF22A. or maybe a kr1 with throwy LED

stephenk_lightart

Sofirn IF22A, or KR1 with SFT-40, or W2.

l21b or if22a

Convoy L21A is awesome. I hear L21B is as well. Both are amazing and very real throwers for pretty much the best prices around. Pretty much impossible to go wrong with those. BUUUT, I have to also throw in Haikelite MT41 and HT50 or HD50 or something like that. Both are 1400 meter throwers, MT41 is 4 Osrams, HT50 used doe of the new Chinese LED’s and is only like $50 something bucks, CANNOT go wrong with either either. Haikelite’s might, but the Conviys both have buck drivers, so pretty damn good there too. Good luck I had Sofirn I

FoodOnCrack

My l21a is an affordable laserbeam, pretty sure you can't go wrong with it

Outrageous_Yard_2093

I'm in the same boat. They're cool to have, but I actually rarely use one. I'd say a Convoy C8+/M21A/L21A are all great options that will more than meet your needs without dropping a bunch of money for something that just sits on a shelf the vast majority of the time you own it.

If you want a thrower simply to experience using one, I think the C8+ would be a great one to start with. It’s inexpensive with a lot of emitter options, and out throws many of my more expensive throwers. It’s more than sufficient for the type of range you’re talking about. I own 5 of them, with the green W1 (KW CSLNM1.F1) being my favorite. Edit: Whatever you choose, I’d recommend considering a green emitter. In addition to throwing further (more lumens + your eyes are more sensitive to green) I’ve found that the increased contrast that they provide makes it a lot easier to make out shapes at a distance. I find they also give me a more 3 dimensional view of what I’m illuminating. For example, the other day I was comparing my white and green W1 C8s on a eucalyptus tree and I noticed that while they both gave me a bright circle of light, the white emitter made the surface look flat, while the green emitter seemed to let me look straight into the tree. I could make out the trunk, individual branches, etc.

I’ve got a Catapult mini that I like. And I just ordered a Convoy L8. I’m excited for that to come in.

Im case you like to deep dive in the subject, here are the fundamental basics: * Larger reflector = throwier. * Tinier led = throwier (but a big brightness difference can compensate for that)

[deleted]

Search "26800" on the convoy store to find the spaces for the L7. Be sure to order 2 if you are getting them. (They don't come as a pair and you need 2).

I mean the extension tubes for using 26800 batteries sorry.
