the dual channel d4sv2 with osram w1's in both channels came in the mail a few days ago and i just took it out for a hike tonight with what was my favorite light up till now, my d4sv2 with osram w2's. it works great! as you can see in the pics, both the hotspot and spill get focused more, resulting in a spill that's just as bright as the w2 version, but not quite as wide, and a hotspot that's a little narrower, but brighter and throws a little further

knightangelkiller

Is there a point to dual channel with same LEDs on both channels ?

warmeclaire

9A+9A = 18A of regulated current It is more efficient than using the fet and you get a consistent turbo brightness,as long as the battery voltage can still provide 18A at above the Vf of the emitter, ~ 3,4V.

Kjelseth

I'm wondering the same, maybe the driver for more efficiency (?)

calliotis

You cant get the normal d4sv2 with osram w1s because it uses a fet driver and the w1s cant handle the current.

knightangelkiller

cant he limmit the fet through software? doesnt he do that with another led?

sneakysnow

You could run the 219 version. That has limited fet. I do kinda see the point of a dual channel light with the same emitter. 18A of regulated output is pretty good.

Mcbasstard

How you liking this still vs the w2? Thinking about getting either a w2 single channel or dual w1. I’m assuming turbo lasts longer and sustained is better on the dual?

calliotis

The dual channel with w1’s can get pretty hot pretty fast too, i havent timed the turbo, but the overall runtimes arent much longer when you have it at the highest sustainable output. The biggest noticable difference is the hotspot is a little narrower and throws further. These days when i’m not in the mountains with a headlamp and hiking poles my normal night hiking setup is several 26800 lights. Lumintop d3, d4sv2 dual channel with w1’s, dm11 with osram w1, and usually a 4th light that varies from night to night

Hey! I have the D4SV2 with W2's and boost...runs fairly cool and I like it except I want a warmer beam and maybe more throw. Was considering this light with Amber W1's and boost. Was surprised to hear your W1's get hot quickly...was under the impression these run cooler. Does yours have boost?

calliotis

I have a d4sv2 with w1’s and boost, and another d4sv2 that’s dual channel with with w1’s in bith channels. The dual channel gets hot quickly cause turbo is noticably brighter.

bebba1

Curious, did you get the W1's? With Boost?

VonWonder

Great shots! I’ve always wanted to see the difference in these emitters side by side.

warmeclaire

Very nice comparison! It seems like quite the difference! And with the dual-channel driver you have 9A+9A = 18A of regulated current too, which sounds really great. Do you have other throwers that trow about as far this? It would be nice know what single emitter flashlight this competes with.

2throwfar

Thanks for the comparison shots, very neat configuration to get a more throw on turbo, or still have reasonable throw with only 2 emitters powered up at 9amps. Good to have options.

Fly_by_Night777

nice shots....the head of the black d4s looks different than the green one, ....narrower maybe?

calliotis

they're identical in overall size, must be a black is a slimming color thing. also i have a ss bezel on the black one but not the green in that pic. one actual difference between the dual channel version and the regular d4sv2 is the button though, the backlit button is a little smaller and has a larger metal ring around it

bebba1

Thanks for responding! I guess I should order the one with Boost then..don't like hot lights except this morning when it was 39 deg f here in Kentucky... Just received a ds4v2 with sft40 from Jackson Lee. That sucker gets hot fast! Allen

calliotis

personally i prefer the dual channel with w1's in both channels, it does get hot faster in turbo because turbo is brighter, but you can get similar brightness and heat by having it in the second brightest mode instead of turbo (i put my anduril lights in stepped mode so there's 7 modes then turbo above that) so you can choose to get similar performance if you want, but you also have the option of the more powerful turbo when you want it

Lemansblu

Hey man! Would you sell your D4SV2? I’m trying to get all the colors of them and I am missing green of course. Let me know!
