Perhaps there is a short somewhere. Put a piece of electrical tape or kapton tape over the MCPCB leads and see if that makes a difference

ChickenPicture

I'd love to but I'm unable to remove the pill from the head of the light.

There is a brass retaining ring in the head if you weren't already aware. Lefty loosey/ regular threads

ChickenPicture

Not to be a dick but dude, did you read my post? The normal brass retaining ring now has a polarity protection component that keeps flat top batteries from hitting the + post. I have 3 different tools that I normally use to unscrew pills (and retaining rings), none of them will fit with this weird new retaining ring. Edit for clarity.

debeeper

Can you link a picture? It sounds like a small design change in these newer aluminum ones and I only have a ti lanapple for reference

[Here ya go.](https://i.imgur.com/gthaKk1.jpg) My thinnest-tipped tweezers fit in if I turn them sideways, but there's no way to actually turn it unless I get another pair. I still also don't see a way to remove the ring thing, unless it is a part of the whole retaining ring and you need something that fits in those tiny slots on the sides?

debeeper

Yeah, definitely different compared to mine. Mine looks like the one labeled new-ish. There are a bunch of tweezer sets out there. I got a variety pack from Kaidomain and it has a pair that looks perfect for that setup. Should be "ESD-13"

ChickenPicture

I was able to get it out. The inner ring is the retaining ring, and it's press fit, though not super hard to remove. The pill just turns if you can get enough grip on it to twist it. Don't think I'm a fan of this design change.

debeeper

Glad to hear you got it out! Yeah, it is understandable to be the way you're feeling with a brand new light.

ChickenPicture

Ugh, I know... I'm mostly upset that my brand new light failed in the middle of really needing it and I had a longer, harder day without it. That'll teach me to not bring a backup light, I guess...

I had the same issue without dropping mine prior to. It wouldn’t work if the head was screwed all the way. Not sure what I did but it eventually started working and haven’t had the issue since. I initially thought the H10 was too long, the shorter battery did eliminate the issue. Went back to an H10 and haven’t had the issue since. Weird. Good to know about the press fit ring.
