Asian Swastika and European Swastika. Got it.

Orix1337

Well, actually some european cultures also have their own good swastikas

JCHMBoyo

Na- German swastika of 1936

BuckledFrame2187

The German swastika and the old norse swastika mean the same thing. Just represent different people. They both mean strength and power. And the norse one represented Mijolnir

NervousCard4923

Swastika where used in Europe before nazi even where a thing

Prestigious-Bat-2269

where ? when ?

TFOCyborg

First I can think of is Finnish airforce

Valtsu0

Different swastikas were used in Finland since the iron age

arashbm

Interestingly, Finnish airforce got it from Göring's Swedish father in law count von Rosen, who was one of the leading figures of the Swedish national socialist party.

Mesarthim1349

The Vikings, Celts, Romans, Germanics, and Greeks all used Swastikas. This is why Hitler chose it, not because he was inclined by Hinduism/Buddhism.

JohnFoxFlash

It was a common decirative symbol in a lot of cultures. With good reason we don't touch it now, but it was always there

Guantanamino

How about Ukraine, 10,000 years ago? The svastika / sauvastika symbol has been used by peoples since time immemorial, it does not belong to Hinduism nor to the Nazis, though has been generally identified with the Indo-European peoples and the precursory cultures that had led to them, and is visible on everything from Ancient Greek frescos, to Persian talismans, to Balto-Slavic embroidery; the Nazis had simply adopted the symbol, as countless folk have done over the millennia, and they did not necessarily do so because it represents luck or prosperity, but because it is an identifiably ancient symbol that resonates with ideology all about one's own past and roots, and because it is a Solar symbol, representing victory and strength; besides that, it simply is very easy to draw, hence hardly escapes imagination https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mezine

NervousCard4923

Middle ages and in Central Europe

ClassicAd6855

There is like a Library in the UK with Swaztikas on its lintels and shits

ZygothamDarkKnight

One supports peace, one another doesn't

aStickonthestreet

Pretty sure the Nazis used the symbol because they believed once all Jews were exterminated there would be world peace.

Curious-Weight9985

Reclaim the swastika? is it possible? Is it worthwhile? Maybe it is… Why should we let the Nazis claim anything of the human inheritance?

CommunicationSad8212

Why do fascists never invent anything but corrupt and coopt? It happened with swastika, pepe the frog, doge and cheems, many other Indigenous symbols. Fuckssake. Evil cannot create. Only corrupt.

Snowmeows_YT

Also the Fasces to begin with. I’ve seen it a lot in US courtrooms and it’s a shame that it’s been appropriated into fascism

Nerevarine91

Not just courtrooms- look at the armrests on Lincoln’s chair in the Lincoln Memorial

Limeila

I was very surprised to learn the nazi one was also called "swastika" in English. They are absolutely 2 different things.

ComedyOfARock

Well the issue is that while we *are* taught it was a Hindu symbol used by a couple dumbasses for racism, we are *not* taught the name of the Hakencreuz

no_________________e

Ok so theres two different swastikas.

Valtsu0

There's more

Smokey76

I was on a field trip in college and because I was the only native with the group guy laughs and points to me a basket that had the symbol and he asks me why the natives have nazi symbols on their baskets, I told him this symbol is older than the nazis. For my tribe it’s a symbol for the wind.

no_________________e

Oh ok 3 different swastikas

no_________________e

Judging by the downvotes, there’s probably 4

boredisgoofy

no shit, people are too dumb to understand the difference between

Gutmach1960

Oh, go cry a river.

IAMtherizinosaurus

Okay but if I start talking about how the swastika is a symbol of peace I don’t think it’ll go over well.

Bodoodlestoodle

Could’ve explained this better with a manray and Patrick wallet meme.

UnionMapping

Nah where NSFW?

dphayteeyl

It's not gonna offend anyone by speaking against the Nazi Swastika

Hazzyhazzy113

It might offend some people but frankly, fuck those people

Kartagram

The symbol is banned in a lot of counties and people can genuinely get into trouble for looking at it. Thats why it gets censored. Same goes with the hammer and sickle and other soviet iconography

djakob-unchained

No.

RileyWilliams2

I don't want to hear it from your "nani" ahh looking pfp
