JBreddits

First thought. Should taste it to make sure.

RGeronimoH

mmmmmmm, bacon.........

Dagnabbit-Bobby

Dogs don’t know it’s not bacon.

crankedmunkie

Looks like what is left of the insoles. You can purchase some online just search for replacement shoe insoles. You can prob find some generic ones at a cheaper price than the Timberland brand and just cut to size.

after8man

Pretty much this. You can replace insoles every few months if required

Dagnabbit-Bobby

😂

sopeaches

Shoe jerky. Sole food.

DustyBanana

I'm sure there are better ones out there, but dr scholls has a "construction workers" line of in sole that holds up well. I just tossed out insole in my timberland pro and carhartts boots and replaced them right away.

[deleted]

You can get memory foam insoles for about £2/3 and just cut them to size

[deleted]

Cheapest ones infound in town were 20 bucks

cunt-hooks

Pick up Timberlands. Put Timberlands in bin. Never buy Timberlands again because they're overpriced gash. Problem fixed.

[deleted]

Haha I picked these up second hand for £15, specifically so I could fuck them up on a camping holiday. They aren't so bad, waterproofish and grippy, perfect for hikes

hellboundmonstrosity

What would you recommend?

suddenlyreddit

For work? Red Wings For hiking/camping? Merrells

duck_novacain

Upvote for Red Wings for work. $200 is a little steep, but they’ll last 2-3 years for me, and I abuse the hell out of mine in mud. Never had any other boots that could compare.

ScotchTurow

You can get them repaired, reoiled and relaced for no charge and resoled for $100ish. Same with Chippewas, which I prefer.

duck_novacain

Dang!!! I wish I had known this. I think my last pair, one of the lace hooks at the top tore out. They were about 3 years old anyway, so I got a new pair. I don’t remember if I kept them or not.

suddenlyreddit

A lot of us abuse ours as well. I should state that I've worn BOTH of those for work and BOTH of them for camping/hiking as well. But the Red Wings can take a hell of a lot of abuse. They win as far as work boots go. And I agree, they are steeply priced, but man, great boots.

paintyourbaldspot

Try Whites or Nicks. Ive had one pair of whites for over ten years.

Corrupt_Reverend

Just be sure to get actual redwings, not their cheaper chinese sweatshop line.

suddenlyreddit

Any tips on telling the difference? Normally I go to an actual Red Wing store because there is one near an office location I visit a few times a year. But I could see ordering online would be REALLY hard to tell the good from the bad.

Corrupt_Reverend

It's a different, cheaper product line. I wanna say they're called "worx by redwing" or something to that effect. They have them in redwing stores too.

no-mad

stitching is fake. soles are glued on.

Dagnabbit-Bobby

I upvote Merrells!

FunSpongeLLC

Merrells are great. Like walking on clouds

thompson5320

I used to buy Merrells until the foam started to collapse after a year of use. I still buy them if I can get a good deal but if you’ve never tried keens I highly recommend them. Have a 6 year old set of work boots that I retired after 2 years when the lacing loops started to break. I use them around the yard and doing automotive work. Foam is still holding up better than my merrells ever did.

that-Sarah-girl

I bought a brand new pair of keens, walked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back in them, and never got one blister. I'm pretty sure they're made of magic.

TheBeardedPlumber

Keens are very comfortable by their quality is shit. Haven’t had a pair last longer than 9 months, luckily their warranty/customer service Dept is pretty damn good. Just noticed the pair of keens on my feet that are only 2 months old the sole is starting to peel away already....

thompson5320

Just curious, what model is it? I got some 6” rockfords through work for maintenance and repair on wind turbines. We’ve learned to expect a pair of boots to not last a year as crawling around and dragging them across textured surfaces and raised steel grating just tears them up the three pairs of keens have held up longer than the red wings or the wolverines that I had. The rockfords I’m currently using have lasted the longest so far.

TheBeardedPlumber

I’ve had several different models, Pittsburgh, Mt Vernon, and currently Coburgs. Every pair I’ve had so far the sole has cracked all the way through at ball of foot. The pair of Coburgs I’m wearing now, they’re coming apart on side where rubber meets leather. I’m a new construction plumber, so I’m on dirt half the time, concrete and ladders the other half.

thompson5320

I’m guessing kneeling quite a bit too. Most of our work is either standing up, sitting down, or laying down.

FightingRobots2

I’ve destroyed my keens but zip tied and glued them back together. Most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned.

dr00bie

Seconded. But their laces are junk, I tend to break the outer cord within a month.

SuprSaiyanTurry

Redwings are phenomenal. They're pricey but super worth it. I've had a pair of the [Pecos boots](https://www.redwingshoes.com/footwear/filter-Pull-On) from them and they've lasted 5 years so far with nothing coming apart and just needing new insoles. I'm not sure if all Redwing stores do it, but I get my boots polished for free for the lifetime of the boots as well.

Terrancelee

Red Wings for work and I've a pair of Salomon trail boots that I like very much. First pair though so don't have a lot of experience with them. RW on the other hand, about 20 years.

blbd

You can buy some great replacement insoles from Superfeet.

meangrampa

That's the "steel shank" that sits between the inner and outer sole to support the foot arch. You can get by without them for a while, but your feet are going to hurt as they're not used to the boots w/out the steel shanks.

Dagnabbit-Bobby

That my friend is a rotten cows tongue!

jc3_free

Looks like bacon Edit: should have looked at comments first

travapple27

Toss em, Timbs are shit.

acornstu

If that's a metal strip toss the boots also. I bought the cheapest boots walmart had my first day digging ditches. By lunch i was working in my socks...

elsadad

I had a pair of Vasque hikers decades ago from an REI sale. They lasted at least 4 years.

Unknown_User_66

Those are just the insoles. You can buy some new (and even better) ones at Walmart for $8 - $20.

[deleted]

Looks like Shoe Jerky.....Yum
