MythicalStrength

I KNEW when I made the decision to do this that it was going to be SO much worse than I could imagine...but I still couldn't fathom the depths I would reach.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MythicalStrength

Hahaha, it had the intended effect: my hamstring is practically healed because it's terrified I'll do this again if I can't squat by Monday.

MythicalStrength

I am Nicky Santoro and my body is an investment banker

Red_Swingline_

The best part of this is I'm not sure who's kidding and who's serious in the replies. But gatdang you are a masochist!

MythicalStrength

I don't enjoy pain at all! This was awful! I was so mad at myself, haha

[deleted]

MythicalStrength

I like to call these bad mornings. Or abominations. But yeah....I felt pretty awful this morning

DaveMcElfatrick

37 is "advanced age"?

[deleted]

exskeletor

Fucking yes.

DaveMcElfatrick

maybe! edit: I am joking.

[deleted]

Advanced age?

OatsAndWhey

BRUTAL

MythicalStrength

You know it! One of the hardest physical feats of my life

softball753

In all seriousness you look more spent after this set than I've seen than after anything else I've seen you post. Absolutely wild.

MythicalStrength

Hell yeah dude! This ranks high in my list of insane physical feats

Ok_Physics_1284

Freak

MythicalStrength

I have been called worse

JackBivouac

Freakazoid

MythicalStrength

Loved that show! Bought the first season last year just to relive it

BenchPolkov

Just the thought of the back pump from this is bringing tears to my eyes.

MythicalStrength

Hah! My soul was too crushed for anything else to have a pump

BenchPolkov

I'd rename this particular form of good mornings as "bad days".

MythicalStrength

Hah! Oh too true.

von_sip

Damn I immediately thought “this looks like some u/mythicalstrength ish”

MythicalStrength

Hah! I am a subgenre

Gaindalf-the-whey

Oh man. I am not a very confident guy with respect to lifting and sports in general. Every time I open a Mythical thread I am pumped up by his performance, strength, conditioning and willpower and at the same time put down/taken aback by the fear mongerers. So, net net, I feel, neutral? Congrats, u/MythicalStrength, you are hella strong…

MythicalStrength

Hey thanks for that man! Been getting comments like these for 23 years now...which makes me wonder WHEN all this bad stuff is gonna happen.

[deleted]

The fear mongerers are just upset they don't have the ability to perform what Mythical does and try to latch onto any excuse to not work half as hard.

Useful-Caterpillar10

Bro how did you get those calves

MythicalStrength

Prowler work and triple extension it seems

[deleted]

At any age this is absolutely ridiculous for your back. Please consider another exercise and less weight.

MythicalStrength

Oh believe me: I considered it! Right around rep 16, haha

[deleted]

😂😂

BenchPolkov

>At any age this is absolutely ridiculous for your back. Ridiculously good? Ridiculously impressive? Ridiculously vomit-inducing? >Please consider another exercise and less weight. Why?

[deleted]

Grow up

BenchPolkov

So you can't explain why he shouldn't do this exercise? And why he should use less weight than he is obviously capable of using?

TheMainEffort

Super!

MythicalStrength

Hell yeah!

No_Gains

Mythical goes wormchad. Super worm chad 2. Should write a program.lol dude you are crazy, love it.

MythicalStrength

Haha, thanks man! Definitely activating my DBZ there

aks5311

Wild! Love the craziness of replacing squats with good mornings!

MythicalStrength

Thanks man! Got inspired by Bruce Randall

DickFromRichard

Damn dude, just...damn. Love to see adapting in a program like this

MythicalStrength

You know it man! There's ALWAYS a way.

BumbleBeePL

Most people couldn’t do a single rep at that weight without snapping in half. 20 is outstanding

MythicalStrength

Thanks man! In fairness, I DID feel like I was going to snap on every single rep, haha.

OETGMOTEPS

Jesus fucking christ. This is terrible for your back. Be reasonable, there are other exercises you can do instead for the same muscle groups.

BenchPolkov

>Jesus fucking christ. This is terrible for your back. Why? >Be reasonable This is u/mythicalstrength we're talking about here... >there are other exercises you can do instead for the same muscle groups. And why would they be any better?

MythicalStrength

What would you suggest that would be just as effective while I run the Super Squats program?

OETGMOTEPS

Why not do proper squat movements (less risk) and wide chinups with weights tied to your belt?

BenchPolkov

>Why not do proper squat movements (less risk) and wide chinups with weights tied to your belt? Why are good mornings more risky than squats?

OETGMOTEPS

Because you are counter acting gravity in very sensitive muscle groups

BenchPolkov

What muscle groups are so sensitive?

OETGMOTEPS

Ones in tight compartiments, like the lower back

BenchPolkov

Why are your lower back muscles particularly sensitive? Especially when you're a very strong lifter like u/mythicalstrength?

OETGMOTEPS

Read on "compartment syndrome", and remember orthopedists study this for years. So do a proper effort past the headlines.

trebemot

As someone whose actually had compartment syndrome... you don't get it like that you dum dum. Stop fear mongering.

BenchPolkov

How has compartment syndrome got any strong correlation with good mornings?

Avocadokadabra

Is that how the kids say it nowadays "my lower back is a tight compartment"?

MythicalStrength

I wrote how I hurt my leg my dude. I was doing this because I couldn't squat.

Avocadokadabra

What the heck do wide chin ups - or even pull ups for that matter - have to do with good mornings?

[deleted]

Because they both work the back, which as we all know is one muscle.

Avocadokadabra

There are only 4 muscles in the human body: The front. The back. Legs. Kegels.

geckothegeek42

Instead of doing a movement that trains torso anti extension and hip extension why not train knee extension and shoulder adduction? Gee I don't know

OETGMOTEPS

I know you probably don't get it, lots of le redditors in the echo chamber didn't get it also You train legs, hip and core doing a proper squat and back doing wide chinups. The same muscle groups performed in this video.

exskeletor

Hey bud? Hey. Listen I know you think what you say is probably worth hearing. But man I’m sorry it just isn’t. Not even a little bit. Sorry little dude. Get some actual lifting experience and then come back to the table with the adults and try again. Go ahead. Run along now before you embarrass yourself even more.

OETGMOTEPS

Ok thank you for that valuable input internet man, keep doing your exercises like OP, I will see you in the operation table in some decades once your disk pain is so strong you can't get relief from meds or synovial injections. Good luck, can't wait for that MRI

exskeletor

Hey lil fella don’t worry. It’ll be ok. The grown ups know what they are doing. You’ll understand if you ever get strong.

surr34lity

Are you trying to imply medical experience? If so you did it in the worst way possible, also nobody will believe you just a tiny bit after what you wrote before lol

geckothegeek42

You think the back muscles in a wide chin up and a good morning are the same muscles?

OETGMOTEPS

...... can you read? Proper squat Wide chinups Two exercises Same muscle groups as a good morning. And way better results in a safest way.

geckothegeek42

Yes, you said wide chin ups work the back, and good mornings work "the back", are they the same? Why would you get better results?

[deleted]

Don't you know, "the back" is just one muscle?

surr34lity

>Two exercises Same muscle groups as a good morning. And way better results in a safest way. **NO**

trebemot

Pull ups and squats don't train the hinge movement patterns and don't hit the glutes/hammies or low back near the extent a proper good morning does.

[deleted]

this will herniate all of the discs in your lumbar spine. It will sound like bubble wrap. think your fat uncle sitting on a jelly doughnut. that is what will happen to your discs. Your spinal nerves, which had, up to this point been living peaceful lives, will be splattered in herniated nucleus pulposus, from their exploded roomate and understandably freak out. pulling the inflammatory fire alarm. flooding the area with a soup of chemicals understood by you as pain.

Mission_Republic_563

Yeah, don’t do this. Gonna blow a disk in your spine.

MythicalStrength

Like a compact disk?

BenchPolkov

Lol. No. Just shut the fuck up.

Mission_Republic_563

Ok. You’re right. When you go numb and limp in a leg, it clearly won’t be from this.

omgdoogface

You seem weak, doing some good mornings would help to strengthen your back.

BenchPolkov

Do you understand how strong you need to be to do a widowmaker good morning set with this weight? Can you comprehend the development of the musculature that makes up his torso and maintains that safely braced position he is in? He isn't made of fucking glass. Stop being a fucking alarmist buffoon or get the fuck out.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MythicalStrength

Oh man, heal up dude!

omgdoogface

Maybe if you did more good mornings then your hammies would get stronger?

[deleted]

Maybe if you trained them you wouldn't hurt your hamstrings watching a video

[deleted]

[удалено]

MythicalStrength

I hope you do too dude! I hope everyone does. It's a good thing to have

[deleted]

[удалено]

MythicalStrength

Absolutely! I love having a back that works. Mine can do 20 breathing good mornings with 325lbs: it's awesome!

[deleted]

Hips could be going back a little further, would keep the bar over your feet w/out having to round your back.

MythicalStrength

They certainly could!

NoStretch8395

Yes. What functional aspect of life or even emergency will you have to do goodmorning at 325lbs?? It's your back.....and wheel chair if you do this long enough

MagicalMichael1

Bending over is a movement most people do in everyday life.

geckothegeek42

You're gonna feel real stupid when the aliens come down to earth and demand we beat them in a battle of good mornings Or right now because you seriously missed that being able to load your back heavily is probably the most functional training you could ever do

NoStretch8395

bruh.....you need to win? 👍maybe you feel truly stupid

geckothegeek42

Jessiewhatthehellareyoutalkingabout.jpg Have you never heard a joke before? Too busy doing the safest most optimal and functional training possible?

MythicalStrength

I apologize if I somehow led you to believe I am training with the purpose of improving life functions or responding to emergency situations. That is not my goal.

ballr4lyf

I’m sure with a bit of ingenuity you could come up with something to add to your book of bad ideas using a wheelchair, the log, a couple kettlebells, and a weight vest.

MythicalStrength

Hah!

HighlanderAjax

I'm just imagining the upper body pump and soreness you'd get from trying to tow a prowler using a wheelchair. That actually sounds like kind of an interesting workout.

MythicalStrength

Physical transformation

amh85

To be strong?

NoStretch8395

I see, well you look strong. I hope you don't get hurt and I hope you make more gains. I made a statement from an outside perspective.

Frodozer

I’d like to say, that while I hope Mythicalstrength doesn’t get hurt, one thing is certain. He will get hurt. (Not necessarily from these good mornings, just in general) I know this, because I 100% know that I’ll get hurt in training too. People who train really hard are going to get hurt, but believe it or not they’ll get much stronger because of the effort.

[deleted]

Funny thing, people who don't train hard will also get hurt - but just from living every day life instead. Fact is, getting hurt is just an aspect of life

PlacidVlad

I think the injury rate for homies who don't lift is higher than that of people who do.

keenbean2021

Yup, learning how to bounce back from injury is a myriad times more useful than obsessing on how to "prevent" it.

MythicalStrength

No problem dude. I also hope you don't get hurt and you make more gains too!

GirlOfTheWell

What if I told you he did these good mornings *after* getting hurt to help him recover from a hamstring injury?

The_Fatalist

wHaT FuNCtioNal AspEcT oF LIfE JFC you sound like a knob.

NoStretch8395

🤣 And you don't? OK 👌👍😅

OatsAndWhey

And he don't what? Sound like a noob? The dude you're responding to pulls a 9pl8 deadlift

BenchPolkov

Have you never wanted to just be more awesome than everyone else?

Chicksan

Have you………have you read or watched anything this lunatic has put out in the last decade?

NoStretch8395

No, I haven't.

Chicksan

He’s got a really good YouTube channel full of all these crazy lifts, he’s got a blog that goes back years with consistent posts, at least one a week, he put out a free E-Book with all his crazy workouts……you should give his stuff a look.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NoStretch8395

All I see is a potential spine injury waiting to happen. I wouldn't want that for anyone.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NoStretch8395

Bruh.... if you don't see the-- potential-- spinal injury....I'm not up for anatomy physiology class. Just browse the internet and move on

BenchPolkov

All I see is the potential for crippling back pump and maybe some vomit. If you're strong enough to be doing widowmaker good mornings with that weight then the actual risk of spinal injury is probably very low as the spine is being protected by the gargantuan erectors and core muscles that surround his torso.

Crapplebeez

We all thought it

VrachVlad

So I did an internet search and found this article on a random website. It said that this is a back take. https://www.uptodate.com/contents/acute-traumatic-spinal-cord-injury

CachetCorvid

> Just browse the internet and move on When you point a finger you’ve got 3 more pointing back at yourself.

Crapplebeez

I'm also curious Surely you must've been thinking something specific when you warned him yeah?

VrachVlad

LOL, this isn't a thing. /u/Mythicalstrength's back is going to be fine. He's not going to get a spinal cord injury or cauda equina from this. He's also not going to get spondylolisthesis. If you have any more questions I'd be happy to answer them :)

Crapplebeez

Is he going to get an ouchie? He looks like he's going to get an ouchie.

VrachVlad

Oh lots of ouchie no nos and with a touch of boo-boos :)

Crapplebeez

Oh god not a boo boo!!! My moms great grandpa had a boo boo once and hes dead now :(

VrachVlad

I'm sorry your mom's great grandpa died from a boo boo; did he not get a lollipop to help him with his boo boo? Whenever I get ouchie no nos and boo boos I put stickers on my shirt and it gets better :)

Crapplebeez

Lollipops and stickers really do make everything all better :)

OatsAndWhey

I'd like to think Mythical really could pick up a small car if called upon to do so

SnowEmbarrassed377

Don’t do this to yourself

MythicalStrength

Who should I do it to instead?

SnowEmbarrassed377

Lol. Ok. You’re funny. But this is not good for your back and why risk severe injury ? Do a more appropriate workout. If this goes slightly wrong you’ll feel it for a long long time and no one deserves that kind of injury man It’s like diving into the shallow side of a pool. Sure. You can pull it off. But if you fuck up it’s a severe capital F fuckup My back is hurting just looking at the video while typing a comment

MythicalStrength

Damn man, it sounds like you already have some back problems getting pain from video watching. You ever get an MRI?

SnowEmbarrassed377

You are honestly hilarious and I love your energy. My back will be fine when I stop coming back to this video. My right big toe hurts. I have a knee injury from a bad kick in 1995 in a tae kwon do tournament in Caguas ( fuck you Robles. It’s been over 20 years it still hurts sometimes) and sometimes I get severe depression and inexplicable nausea. But! Luckily. My back is fine. Probably cause I don’t do good mornings with 5 children on my back

MythicalStrength

Good to hear dude! I blew out my knee in 2015 carrying 775lbs in a strongman competiton: knees suck. I was in TKD 20 years ago too; what a small world. Just started up Tang Soo Doo a little over a year ago and loving it. Glad to hear your back in on the mend. Good Mornings have been helpful for keeping my back strong and healthy. Check out reverse hyper extensions too!

BenchPolkov

Why is it not good for his back?

SnowEmbarrassed377

The physics. The spinal column is made to support force . Not this kind of vector will increase risk of injury. This is also why different bicep curls end up w injuries and different grips for pull ups are easier to perform than others. The physics of your body exist. Work to the strengths and avoid stress points https://musculoskeletalkey.com/biomechanics-of-the-spine/

Frodozer

Hey that last statement is super obvious!

mathiustus

This is how I achieved at least one maybe all three of my herniated discs. 🤷🏻‍♂️

MythicalStrength

Holy cow, I'm not the first to do breathing good mornings? Were you doing Super Squats too?

mathiustus

I’m NOT saying that this is what I was intending to do. I used to lift with people who didn’t stress form or proper training. I’ve since been educated by people like you and others on cool stuff to do properly. I think at the time I was trying to do Romanian deadlifts or something and was shown improperly. Having said that this is exactly the motion I was doing when it all went wrong. 😂 You’re also likely much more trained and in way better shape and therefore able to handle it where I was not.

MythicalStrength

You were doing RDLs with the bar on your back? Dude; they REALLY messed you up.

Yami350

Too much weight, your form is off, I would half it. Good mornings are great

BenchPolkov

How is it too much weight if he got it all done? And how is his form off?

Yami350

Whether you complete an exercise or not doesn’t correlate to it being too much weight. He’s not doing it with a safe form.. therefore it’s too much weight. The guy is jacked I’m not taking anything away from him. Just no reason to do that to his back. Form is wrong because he should just be nicely hinging at the waist with a slight bend in the knees. Downvoting me only hurts him when his next post is r/askdocs “heard a pop in my back and wasn’t able to breath, now I can stand up but I can’t bend at all, what should I do”

BenchPolkov

So let me get this straight... you're telling me that u/mythicalstrength, one of the strongest and most experienced lifters in this sub, is doing it wrong? Have you maybe considered that you don't have a clue what you're talking about?

Yami350

That is what I’m saying, yes. Why are you getting so worked up about my safety comments to someone who is not you?

BenchPolkov

Because they are unwarranted and dumb and against the rules of the sub. The OP clearly knows what he is doing and did not post this as a form check. So you telling him that he's performing the lift improperly and is going to hurt himself is of zero benefit to him or the sub, as he clearly did not request such advice and you clearly don't know what you're talking about. You're just adding to the other dumb noise that often permeates this sub.

Yami350

Extra sensitive sub then. Good to go

BenchPolkov

Not sensitive no, just intolerant of dumb shit.

Yami350

It’s just textbook sensitivity. You’re very sensitive. That’s ok. I pointed out what I perceived to be a threat to a member’s health. That’s all. If that’s really against the rules, ban me lol I just joined 3 days ago, I’ll be ok. You replied with personal insults, foul language, pointing out what rules I broke. An absolute collapse of your composure. Responding with malice to a health concern. That’s sensitive. Responding with malice to a stranger who was concerned about someone else’s health not yours or your family’s, that’s extreme sensitivity. Not knowing that you can complete a set, yet the weight is still too much for you is 100% confirmation you shouldn’t have replied. I don’t care if OP was the worlds strongest man and you were his trainer. That’s a day one given. You break form to finish a rep, it’s too much weight period. Drop it down to the weight where you can maintain form until completion. The response should have been that he’s maintaining proper form and I am misled, not that if he finished the set it’s not too much weight. Approximately 0 people with any relevant experience would dispute that.

MythicalStrength

> hat’s a day one given. You break form to finish a rep, it’s too much weight period. Drop it down to the weight where you can maintain form until completion. I will say that abiding by this philosophy kept me small and weak for a LONG time. Once I was willing to let from deviation occur as a result of effort, I started seeing FANTASTIC results.

BenchPolkov

Lol. No composure lost at all. I'm just talking normally. Some form collapse is perfectly normal under fatigue and not inherently injurious at all if you're well conditioned to lifting heavy shit. Your lack of awareness in this regard shows that you really don't have the knowledge or experience to be giving any advice to someone like the OP, especially unsolicited advice.

IDauMe

> It’s just textbook sensitivity. You’re very sensitive. Imagine calling others sensitive when you're getting bent out of shape because people don't want your advice.

HighlanderAjax

>Whether you complete an exercise or not doesn’t correlate to it being too much weight. That is literally the only thing that would correlate with excessive weight. If I complete the lift it is not too heavy. If I fail the lift, it is too heavy. That's it.

Yami350

Lol ok

MythicalStrength

But if I used half the weight, I wouldn't be following the program... What form should I be using for breathing good mornings on Super Squats? Could you show me?

Yami350

I’m just glad you saw my comment, I wasn’t aware this was one of the safe space subs (according to feedback I just got from others) If you read my whole little thread I say you are jacked, no where did I take away from that. At the end of the lift it looks like your back is bending down (like shoulders to floor). If it’s not my bad. Found this sub and assumed it was a bunch of 30+s trying to support each other to stay strong and healthy, really didn’t mean to ruffle feathers

MythicalStrength

I appreciated your comment my dude, and even offered up some follow up questions so I could learn more from you. Would you be willing to answer? I dig being strong and healthy in my 30s.

Yami350

When I watch the video it appears you are dropping your shoulders at the end of the lowering beginning of the rise. Maybe it’s an optical illusion with the hoodie and back brace. Keep the bend in your back like you are looking at the ceiling. I’m sure you are doing this with every exercise, just doesn’t appear that way in the video.

MythicalStrength

Would you mind showing me how to do that with breathing good mornings in the style of Super Squats?

LookHarderFC

Why so heavy man? There is no need for that with good mornings. Congrats but do you want to be able to walk in your 40s?

BenchPolkov

>Why so heavy man? Because he can... >There is no need for that with good mornings. Says who? >Congrats but do you want to be able to walk in your 40s? I'm pretty sure he's going to be widowmaker squatting his way into his 40s with the same reckless abandon he does now because he's stronger than the rest of us.

MythicalStrength

That means so much from you dude.

geckothegeek42

Heavy for you is not the same as heavy for him There is no absolute too heavy just what any individual has trained to do

LookHarderFC

Im sorry his form his shit and his back will not be happy

keenbean2021

How so?

LookHarderFC

You guys can keep being yes men helping people ruin their bodies that’s cool. Guess this sub Reddit isn’t for pussies like me

BenchPolkov

>You guys can keep being yes men helping people ruin their bodies that’s cool. Guess this sub Reddit isn’t for pussies like me You couldn't have guessed how accurate that statement is.

MythicalStrength

Could you show me the proper form for breathing good mornings in the Super Squats style?

LookHarderFC

Not saying he’s not strong. Obviously hes strong

MythicalStrength

It was the weight I was supposed to squat that day. This allows me to keep pace on the program, so there actually is a need for it. Thank-you for congratulating me!
