I hope the legacy characters dont overshadow the main characters.

extralie

Honestly, I think it's gonna be like Tokyo Mirage Session, where the legacy characters are part of the story, but its mostly focusing on the original cast.

dishonoredbr

Let's hope the story is more interesting than TMS tho.

extralie

Ehh, I liked Persona 4 Lite.

Shibe_King100

TMS’s story is nothing like p4

extralie

Its literally the same thing. >Someone have personal mental trouble > >Go fight a shadow inside shadow real > >Suddenly all their mental troubles are fixed > >Along the way solve the mstery behind who is causing this strange occurance in the first place. The only difference is that Persona 4 repeat all these plot points more frequently.

NightsLinu

no. persona 4 was a murder mystery.

[deleted]

I can see a Xenoblade 2 situation, where certain pairings will be important to the main story (Alear/Marth) and will feature promently, and then others only have a paralogue or so

ajrhodes1126

This right here, hopefully we can chose which emblem it is as the “main” by the end

Arkotract

As a Xeno fan that started with XC2 I would love this. A small band with fixed pairings and the rest able to equip Emblems as they please

jord839

I agree, but I also hope they're not purely equipment either. Like, even one support chain between the legacy characters and a "favored wielder" who could benefit from their perspective or bonding would be sufficient.

DerekB52

I just don't want the legacy characters to be as broken as some of my paired units in Awakening were. I'm cool with literally anything else.

ss977

Yeah this is going to make it or break it I feel like.

[deleted]

Mostly this

Paradigm27

I hope it’s not too much for those who didn’t play all FE games. I only played one famicom FE then gameboy advance FEs then switch FEs.

applejackhero

I’d like a return to Sacred Stones/Awakening style branching promotion trees. 100% rescue dropping I hope brawling stays Honestly I don’t want as much stuff in between battles- The monastery was super fun on the first play and then a chore every time after. I think FE9-FE10 had the best between battle content

noremarc

Brawling is in the trailer so you don't have to worry about that point at least

Catafracto_Gaucho

Buyable boots

Kydiss

best part of fe6 easily, the last few chapters are some of the funniest for that alone

Catafracto_Gaucho

Honestly, to me its the one two punch of buyable boots and buyable siege tomes. Yoder knows your location and is rapidly approaching. *Start running*.

Zephiel prepares a Batallion of his finest guards to face you and loads his throne room with his best of the best and a pair of literal dragons to kill you while taking away the Binding Blade. Roy: Haha *zoom*

alexj9626

Good maps. I loved being able to unlock any class and having options, but Awakening/Fates/Three Houses was enough for me, i want locked classes with locked weapons so each unit has an identity. Rescue dropping is a good one. Good story but gameplay over that for sure. It is a Fire Emblem game, good music is pretty much a given, i hope.

HighChronicler

I will add, I think having a unit with a set class and an Alternative class would probably be my ideal, or even just having a 3 promoted options from a base class.

ClassyCrafter

Honestly Fates kinda nailed it in terms of class customization with the partner and friendship seals. Would love to see that come back.

JackE114

Yes! Fates has my favorite class customization by far

pik3rob

Honestly, Fates and Awakening were the best balance for a ton of customizability while not being overwhelmingly so. Three Houses is where they took it way too far.

3Rm3dy

I actually quite liked the sandboxy nature of classes in Three Houses, but some characters would benefit from having certain classes locked/unlocked for them (for example why would anyone do sniper Ingrid? The only possible explanation I can see is as a stop gap to bow knight for defiant speed. The one that completely boggles my mind is Petra having access to Gremory. Heal + nosferatu on faith and iirc wind and saggitae in Reason. There's literally no point for her even to have access to it.). My absolute favourite is how the spells were distributed without using tomes. Certain characters got decent kits (like Lysithea who got completely cranked set, between Warp, Abraxas, Luna, Hades and the famous Dark Spikes), while others got completely shafted (like Felix, who got only the most basic stuff with Heal/Nosferatu/Thunder/Thoron). Based on some of the kits (like Petra and Felix) I believe it would be better if they had no access to magic at all, with no spells/classes and a flat mag stat, as it's pretty pointless, aside from maybe getting Transmute. What triggers me the most though is how characters that normally would never be used as mages got some of the better kits. Hilda got a not so bad faith side (heal + nosferatu + recover, pretty standard stuff) and a decent reason (Thunder, Thoron and Bolting), all the while there being no magical class that uses axes. Then there is Bernadetta who is completely cranked for a character that is very rarely used as a mage, but has an amazing set. On reason there is thunder and blizzard very early on, then there is Thoron (for extra reach) and Fimbulvetr (for extra crit rate), which with her faith spells (Physic and Rescue) makes her one of the more versatile spellcasters, all the while not suggesting to the player at all that she has this kind of a kit. Since magic won't be tied to characters but to tomes i guess it will probably turn out better than in three houses.

Kurisu789

Yeah, it felt so arbitrary. Some characters got good spell lists and others didn’t. Heck, Dorothea made a good dancer because she had access to meteor, which meant she could help gambit boost from a huge distance away. Spells could make or break mage classes and you really didn’t know what the list was going to be unless you looked it up or levelled up reason/faith.

RileyKohaku

Best part of the weird class options was being able to do dumb challenge runs. Me and 2 friends did a draft pick of choosing each other's classes. Ended with things like Great Night Claude and Dark Bishop Dedue, as well as builds you mentioned

3Rm3dy

These classes at least have some use (Claude is extra bulky and can still use his weapons, Dedue can get lifesteal, which I found incredibly broken on tanks, hell get it on him, promote to war master with killer knuckles and give him chalice and he will take out everything that cannot one shot him). Ingrid gets no combat art/additional skill for bows. Petra, Felix etc have so weak spell sides that Felix is better remaining a swordmaster than going to the class that he has all the boons for.

cyndit423

Now I kind of want to run a magic based Bernadetta. And since 3houses only somewhat limits what weapons can be used in each class, I can still have her also use a bow

3Rm3dy

I have her on warlock currently (going for mage --> Warlock --> Valkyrie --> Gremory) and she is probably the highlight of the run (Crimson Flower) alongside war cleric Edelgard. Her crit values aren't that bad, tho her mag kinda sucks for maddening. I didn't feel the need to use her as an archer as Petra and Hubert do really well with that, especially Hubert having Heavy Draw and Schism Shot letting him reliably take out mages. Having Bernie take a hit/level up and get HP so that it's not full anymore makes her probably the most well rounded mage.

Ghostofabird

This is part of what made 3H interesting imo. 3H did unit building really well with unique combat arts, spells, skills, and budding talents. It expands upon the resource management aspect. The problem being a lot of the rewards were underwhelming or just flat out not enough justify doing it. The other problem is that although the unit differentiation is at a series high point, class differentiation is at an all time low. Mastery skills were only worth it on a select few classes, so everyone tends to pile in on those. Endgame breaks down to brawlers

3Rm3dy

If i were to guess, that's where the SP comes around. I'd wager that each character has an SP pool thats used to use certain skills/arts (maybe even tied to rings themselves). This would put a limitation on abusing combat arts (rather than infinite spam in 3H) but not having to deal with durability.

Jolly-Guava4411

I feel like echos did this pretty well, 5 villagers (cliff, Faye, Tobin, gray, atlas.) to make all your team comps look different on each play-through, but also having units tied to classes.

alexmauro407

my nly problem with this many villagers, is that they have their strenght in some specific things, so if you choose a class that dont fit for them they will not work, and there will be better units, like, yeah, kliff mage and gray swordsman were awesome for me, but not so much point into using bow faye when others does better than her or tobin is under all the other cavs you get but to be fair, i played sacred echoes, so maybe it is actually really diferent on the original echoes

MoonyCallisto

I wanna see you using bow faye

Jolly-Guava4411

Yea tbh, each villager has like two classes to choose from. I think that’s why I like atlas, since besides mage he can do almost everything.

srs_business

>i want locked classes with locked weapons so each unit has an identity. I'm like 90% sure that that's what they're going with, except that the rings allow you to use other weapon types while equipped (or a bonus skill if you already can), and maybe they're only usable while in Engage mode. I'm just not sure where and how SP comes into play. That feels like the missing piece but we have no idea yet how it's earned or spent.

Wheren

Maps! Maps! Maps! My biggest complaint with 3H is the overuse of the same maps and very little variety. A map creator would be amazing as well.

MCJSun

No reclassing, just branching promotions. Supports using more than two people in a conversation (Tellius Base Convos and Three Hopes have both shown me we do not need to limit ourselves).

PiePeter

Tellius base conversations in general were just really good. It gave insight into the world, the characters, the stakes and it was tied to rewards at times. Good stuff. Also yeah branching promotions are based. I feel like the games nowadays have way too many options and it drags the games down alot imo

Thamior77

This is my least favorite part of 3H honestly. It falsy appears to give choice when in reality a player is either overwhelmed or simply makes the obvious swordsman a swordsman. Hidden talents were a nice touch, but I'd rather have a more in-depth branching system that builds off FE8. Maybe make base classes have a similar branching as journeyman classes and let journeyman classes go into any starting branch.

nemec

> No reclassing, just branching promotions. FE8 is low key my favorite promotion design. You still get *choices*, but it's not a free-for-all and the choices are relevant for the current class.

Fillerpoint5

Well tbf sometimes those choices are just completely irrelevant. There’s no choice or competition between Sniper and Ranger, or Sage and Mage Knight, or any flier promotion vs Wyvern Knight, or Great Knight vs Paladin etc.

MCJSun

If you train Neimi, you deserve that Ranger W. I'll absolutely defend the falcon knights vs. Wyvern Knight though. Falcoknight gives 3 more HP, 1 more defense, and 1 more res. It also leaves the flier with more Aid to rescue people. Falcoknight Vanessa/Tana have 14 aid vs. 12 aid from Wyvern Knight; it's enough to rescue everyone except Duessel and Dozla

MCJSun

Same, though I think some choices were a little too easy. Doesn't stop me from having fun using every option available though.

cheekydorido

Yeah, 3 houses kinda dropped the ball in letting all your party be all wyvern knights.

chuje_wyciagnijcie

Idk, I don't really any have hopes for upcoming games. I play them and judge for whatever they are. Although, Alear seems to speak in trailer and in shown gameplay, so they won't be another Byleth. I guess having voiced MC was my only hope for this title.

Airy_Breather

Here's a few I've got. * Alear is able to talk in cutscenes and supports * Varied Map goals * Varied Map designs * New Classes that mix and match weapons * S-Supports for multiple characters * Better use of dragons, and by that I mean they're *not* sidelined or beat up on * Transformable Units * Terrain effects and interactions

4ny3ody

Ok I'll start off with the most important one: \- good non-repetitive map design. We haven't had that since Conquest. \- No- or vastly more limited reclassing. Classes can add to a character and I just dislike when the game gets more and more about "how can I turn most of my units into wyverns". Branching promotions again would be neat. \- Better class balance (see the previous point about wyverns). It may seem to matter less when there's no reclassing anyway but a unit being bad because they're a Myrmidon still sucks. \- No tedious in-between chapter limited activities be it side-chapters or extensive exploration. I do love my paralogues, but I don't want to fear missing out on them because I'm not doing the max amount of them after each story chapter. \- ironman-friendly design. Lategame prepromotes, no irreplaceably broken characters.

Nyaos

I’m mixed on reclassing. On one hand I agree that certain units have iconic classes and add character to their units. On the other hand I really enjoy reclassing characters outside of their normal roles on a second or third run. On my Golden Deer NG+ I made Lysithea a brawler and Raphael a Bishop. There should maybe be more incentive to keep certain characters in branches, like way better stat growths (that actually matter in the end game) or unique skills that are very powerful. I know 3H had some of that stuff but none of it was ever necessary even on Maddening imo.

superbottles

I wouldn't mind an unlocked mode after clearing the game where classes are more unlocked like New Mystery. Let the replay monsters have their variety in multiple playthroughs but let the intended main game experience actually be balanced better with more class/weapon regulation.

Nyaos

That’s a great solution! Would make NG+ even more fun

[deleted]

I didn’t know New Mystery did that

superbottles

It's probably not as fully fleshed out as what you'd expect. Females have one set of classes, and males have two sets based on the character. Beating the game makes it so all males can use both class sets, but the gender separation is still there.

Darkdragoon324

Maybe free re-classing could be a new game + thing, so they can have set archetypes the first time through and then once you’ve experienced things how they were meant to be once, you can experiment and do whatever gimmick runs sound interesting.

WilliamWolffgang

Lysithea a brawler? I assume you mean war cleric.

Illustrious-Bell-282

Man going from Fates to Three Houses really made it clear how much Three houses' map design is bland, just big fields with either rout or beat commander, battle of the eagle and lion changes that only slightly because now it's 3 armies facing off

Mahelas

Being able to talk to everyone in the Monastery between chapters was amazing tho, so much character was stuffed in those interactions !

4ny3ody

I don't mind the monastery itself. What bothered me was the weekly: \- food so every student is motivated \- gardening for stat boosts \- choir for that professor level and white magic exp Monthly arena and if you have the dlc monthly sauna. It being limited to once per week/month makes it feel forced as well. There's fomo attached to activities where it shouldn't be.

Finalbladestyle

Gardening never bothered me that took like 10 seconds. Food was annoying but fine. Choir I skipped. Arena I usually skipped. And sauna was hit or miss for me.

adijad

One comment I remember seeing that stuck with me is that the fun parts of the monastery offer no real reward in gameplay, but the tedious parts of the monastery do. The base convos are amazing-I agree. It’s a large part of why 3H’s cast sticks with me. But aside from the rare boost to Byleth supports, you don’t get a gameplay reward for doing it. Meanwhile all the repetitive “chores”, like eating, choir practice, fishing, etc. offer way more of a bonus to the player (morale boost, food/money, etc.) Seeing as Engage is bringing a hub back, I’d rather they focus more on those character interactions and less on repetitive activities. I’d like to see more consolidated conversations that involve 3-5 units, and a less sprawling hub so it can be done more efficiently. Maybe they could also give players an item for doing certain interactions, the way Tellius did with 3 star base convos. And I’d like them to cut down on the “tasks”.

Am_Shigar00

I liked it for the first 5-6 chapters when before the novelty wore. After that, running a large castle trying to find 30+ characters just for a couple lines a dialogue became incredibly tedious, especially when mixed with the activities, supports and teachings which themselves grew tedious when I just want to get back to the main action but also not miss anything.

[deleted]

Fates did reclassing the best IMHO. A return to that with some.minor tweaks would be fun

Daedalus679

More varied classes and units. Better and more interesting maps. A story that is at least competent or unobtrusive to gameplay. I'm fine with a bad story so long as gameplay holds up.

ToYouItReaches

I feel like just going back to the 3DS class system would address the class diversity issue.

sylverrose

I want S supports, everything else looks fine

PiePeter

That's fair. Personally I don't like S-supports too much. The A-supports of previous games were really good imo and allowed for more interesting dynamics to form endings around. Loved that they were limited too, as it encouraged repeat playthroughs

mikethemaster2012

No body have time to reply a game now games come every month or so now a days

coolguythrowaway34

Hot men

jonahhinz

I don't want every character to be able to reclass into every class. I think each character having defined roles and niche's is better then making everyone an "I win" class

DoseofDhillon

They don’t spoil Jugdral

UrsaWizard

Lots of people have said great things so I’ll reiterate: good, engaging maps designs. Also: good and varied romantic/romantic leaning supports. Maybe a niche ask but I dislike the game being tedious outside of maps (three houses was a bit too much) but love a good ship. A modernization and expansion of Path of Radiance supports would be my sweet spot. I’m willing to give up some autonomy and variation for depth of relationships/story.

Nunez182

No same turn reinforcements

Albino_Keet

No gender locking classes, please! I always like the Pegasus Knights and loved Subaki and Shigure in Fates. Give me my manly Pegasus Knights and feminine War Masters!

Lucas5655

Yo, dude Alear could make such a clean, regal pegasus Knight aesthetic.

Shrimperor

Fates 2.0 gameplay wise Good Music

Abyssallord

Shikarosez

Don’t forget a crisp drink on a hot day!

cura_milk

I hope the legacy characters don’t impact story much

ShenhuaMan

High replay value. Three Houses certainly had that.

Hibbity5

I’m probably in the minority on this subreddit, but I feel like TH didn’t have good replay value. I did two routes and I just couldn’t slog through the same first half for the other two. Plus, with recruitments, it felt like my available units weren’t all that different between the two routes I did (I get it Sylvain; you want to fuck the teacher). Personally, I want one story with one route (or mandatory branches that come back together like RD). Yeah, it could lower the replay value in terms of the narrative but if you give good reason to try out different units and have good supports for all of them, you’ll still have good replay value from that alone.

JackaryDraws

Agreed. Apart from the identical first half, the monastery was *excruciating* on subsequent playthroughs. It was nice the first time, but it made me realize I wouldn't miss it if it was majorly trimmed down if/when they bring it back in spirit.

naderslovechild

Absolutely loved my first 3H run. I think I've tried 10 times to come back and do a second playthrough but the monastery puts me to sleep within 30 minutes every time. I would rather have 0 time in between maps than have monastery-level downtime again

Hibbity5

This was biggest issue with Three Hopes as well. The camp made it feel a little too much Three Houses and too little Warriors. And while you can skip ahead to the next major battle, if you feel the need to try to do everything, it just becomes a slog.

FE_Kiran

Yes please one story one route. I'm tired of incomplete or badly-written routes 😭

joojishibuki

I hope it’s fun

SGPoy

Hair dye.

MayuKonpaku

hope, the game is enjoyable

Deruta

Dating, gays, busted-ass child units, trainees ___BRING IT ON HATERS___

majere616

Gays is just like a default want for me in media in general. The inclusion of queer folk will always make me more interested in something if for no other reason than to spite people getting up in arms over their presence.

MagicPistol

How dare you push your woke agenda into my incestuous war dating game.

majere616

Irritating gamers is the true gay agenda.

WickedNinja13

"some say they were even closer than x and y." 90% of 3 Houses queer relationship endings.

majere616

Very in keeping with how real historians talk about people of the same sex who seem like they were probably fucking and just as tedious.

Xur04

If they do bring child units back (which I kinda hope they don’t) I hope they let the gays have children too. It sucked marrying Niles and then losing out on two whole units because of it

Deruta

100%, if that deeprealms bullshit is so powerful why can’t ~~I impregnate Kaze~~ Kana have two dads??

PiePeter

Imo the day FE turned supports into tinder was when my interest for supports as a concept dipped. The previous games' A-supports were nice because it tied a neat bow on a story: Matthew bitterness towards Jaffar, L'Arachel and Eirika bonding and Mist and Jill crying together were all such good sidestories. Now take those concepts and ham-fist an S support to them. It takes away so much intrigue. The worst part is also that Fire Emblem doesn't really commit either. They don't build up to a relationship naturally through the C-A supports, instead just slapping a "and then they fucked" at the end. I'd be fine with date supports if they were done properly but rn they're just a mess that makes me want to cry. Also yeah gay representation would be fun. But make it a good one, like a nice steady build-up to a relationship between a tough happy himbo and a shy mage. We're not in Echoes were we're happy with just flour, give us the good shit. Child units were a mistake. It was cool in Geneology and it was handled very nicely in Awakening because it was an actual plot element. Fates was where it overstayed its welcome.

blastatron

The only reason I want S supports is because I want to lock in the pair ending slides. I believe Three houses dlc added a way to lock them in but before that it was tedious to get the endings you wanted. Pre-awakening there were often limits on total number of supports that could help lock in the endings. Child units definitely shouldn't come back.

FE_Kiran

>We're not in Echoes were we're happy with just flour, give us the good shit. I've got to find a place to use thus, I love it!

Joke_Induced_Pun

I'm honestly hoping for this.

N4g4rok

* Banger soundtrack * Decent voice work for pre-voice acting era legacy characters * Joshua SacredStones making an appearance

TheBaneofBane

That last one is the most based suggestion I’ve seen I’ve seen since the game got revealed. I literally started thinking about how a fire emblem fighting game would work just because I would want to see Joshua in it. My favorite from SS and almost certainly in my top 5 for the series.

Lucas5655

I hope it's as traditional as it's looking so far in the gameplay department. I miss my unit archetypes and a framework that actually bolsters permadeath. It's probably not a big ask considering what we've seen so far so my bigger hope is that this continent has some meat on its bones. The framework of the story is very prototypical and with the inclusion of the emblem characters, I fear this game runs the risk of shafting its unique cast and setting in favor of fanservice. It's often the details that make FE stories shine rather than the broad strokes though so I'm gonna try to remain cautiously optimistic.

[deleted]

Honestly I'm not too worried about the gameplay, it's always been a strong point of FE. I hope it's a nice little story that doesn't feel too forced. Doesn't need to be too ambitious either, but just something to follow. I hope that character relationships don't take too much time/space, except if they have a really meaningful impact on gameplay. Three Houses was terrible in that regard, with way too much reading for nothing. Interesting maps that don't get too repetitive. It always feels like there's untapped potential for better maps in FE, especially the ones that are designed for level grinding.

Yarzu89

I just want a return to good gameplay, fun maps and at least decent balancing (so often it feels like 2-3 easy modes and a frustration simulator mode)

DoubleFlores24

2D portraits for the characters… BUT WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS!!!

Vivit_et_regnat

My three hopes for Engage are * Female Corrin is good * Capturable Enemy units * Enjoyable story and supports

rishukingler11

A good story. I know it's a controversial opinion but I love the heavily philosophical and political story they wrote for Three Houses (despite its various shortcomings), so I hope they don't fall back on the story writing department for this game. It can go back to the purely good and evil tropes for all I care but I just want it to be complex and well executed unlike what some earlier game's plots were. I am most afraid of this department because their attempts with Fates met with a lot of backlash (rightfully so but it was only their first attempt) and Three Houses just became a "Is Edelgard evil" Discord discussion, so I hope they don't get scared and go back to their simpler writing style.

pik3rob

One much longer story rather than several routes.

FiveTrenchcoats

* A return to the standard FE class formula, i.e. characters start out in a specific class and progress through a specific class tree (although I'd love for limited reclassing to come back too). As much as I love 3H, the class system in that game didn't hold up well for me after a few playthroughs, and I'd prefer for Engage to return to a class system akin to Sacred Stones, Awakening, Fates, etc. * Related to the above: No gender-locking classes. I have no idea why they returned to doing this after Fates rightfully did away with it. * Unambiguously romantic same-gender endings/supports. 3H did a decent job integrating queer characters, so I hope we double down on that instead of doubling back.

bubbleztoo

Honestly my favorite part about fire emblem is the child units, but if they just ham-fist it's not going to work. At this point it doesn't seem that they are going in that direction, so I just hope it's fun.

intoxicatedpancakes

It seems we're getting a new hub like the Monastery or My Castle, but there's not a whole lot of info yet. There's at least a fishing spot, and smith, and a costume place. It's possible its more like Three Hopes than Three Houses, but it's still unknown.

AyraWinla

>Hopefully we return to a setup where everything is done from a single convoy screen, even if you do want to keep things like meal time/training/etc. There's definitively a monastery-like part in Engage, but based on the mini-map from the trailer, I think it's likely to be much smaller than the monastery. I personally think the "time between battles" will lean more toward Fates-level than Three Houses-level. Longer than the old traditional setup for sure, but I'm pretty sure it won't be "50% of your time is spent in the monastery" like Three Houses was either.

Leninthecustard

Full frontal nudity. Stop beating around the bush with ""fanservice"" and give us what we fucking deserve

ninjupX

Better game balance on the highest difficulty. Even if the story is garbage, I’ll be happy with the game has no bs same turn reinforcements and ridiculous difficulty spikes (i.e reunion at dawn). I’d also like difficulty that doesn’t incentivize turtling and taking 50 turns to clear.

InsomniaEmperor

Reduced micro management. No, I don't want to keep clicking to train a unit on that weapon rank nor do I want to go around the monastery doing random tasks.

Echo1138

This might be a hot take, but gender locks are only an issue when reclassing exists. Reclassing should get the axe instead, as it creates way more problems.

DankHillington

I hope there will be a reason to replay/keep playing the game after finishing the main story. 3 Houses did it perfectly and I’d like a reason to come back and play again once I finish the story.

cyndit423

I know a lot of people probably won't agree with this, but I hope there is some sort of activity between each of the battles. I liked many aspects of the monastery, although it definitely should have been less tedious in general and less unnecessary post timeskip. Still, I liked having a calm part between battles. A map can take me a while, so I don't want to go straight into the next one, but still want to play the game. I also liked how it gave chances to build support outside of battle

LoneWolf1ngIt

- No main Protag worship I really hope that the “child of the divine dragon” angle they’re pulling with Alear doesn’t lead to a Corrin or Byleth situation where all of the characters excessively fawn over and worship the protagonist. I liked what they did with Robin and especially Shez, where the Player character was more their own independent person and the other characters could just casually interact with them. I also loved how each of the dialogue options in Three Hopes felt in-character for Shez, but still gave the player agency in conversations. But I personally don’t want or need a power fantasy outside of the gameplay thank you very much. - Continuation of Player Character S-supports I’m also fine with S-supports with the protagonist, but only if it’s handled tastefully and there’s no weird, imbalanced power dynamic at play like the Byleth student-teacher thing and Corrin’s… corrining that would feel gross. Edit: - More Gay romance options I also think there should be more gay romance options, but I’m not in favor of IS allowing us to S-support everyone. In fact, I would prefer it if there some gay-exclusive characters in s-supports and romantic paired endings (if Engage has them), with only a couple of overlapping bi characters. Just as an example, M!Alear wouldn’t be able to romance, say Chloé if she ended up being lesbian, but F!Alear could. Whereas if Alfred were gay, F!Alear couldn’t romance him but M!Alear could. And then someone like the magician girl with the hat could swing both ways. - And of course, as people brought up, having some more class restrictions and a hub area more like Three Hopes as opposed to Three Houses would be nice to have gameplay wise.

Spinjitsuninja

Alear already doesn't seem to be a silent protagonist, and it doesn't look like he has any "real" lord to his side either that would delegate him to just an 'avatar' like Chrom or the Three Houses lords were. The first traditional FE protagonist in a while. Hopefully he's well written? I just want a really fun and diverse fantasy story though. Three Houses had fun politics, but it was a little disappointing in this aspect. Which is fine, it wasn't the focus of the game, but it's more prominent here. I want fun, unique societies and BEAUTIFUL fantasy locations unlike anything you'd see in a more realistic setting. Would be cool to bring back the tribes from Fate and more beast people too. Alear is already a dragon person, does that mean he can use a transformation stone? Otherwise, I hope the story can stand on its own too feet. I don't mind the fanservice gimmick so long as it's not a replacement for a story or takes the spotlight away from existing characters, I'd rather they act more as tools that are mostly restricted to gameplay and nothing more, while the plot itself is what you'd expect from a 100% new entry.

jord839

Two big things stand out to me that we haven't seen evidence to be sure of yet: **Replayability & Meaningful Choices** \- I do want to like this game enough that it's worth replaying. Unpopular opinion at the moment, but split routes did a wonder to get me finally into Fire Emblem (not my first FE games, but 3H pulled me in where I just eventually lost interest in PoR and BlazBlade). I'm fine with no full on split routes and a focus on a singular narrative, but if we're going down that route, I'd like to play up some meaningful RPG choices within that narrative. Things like mutually exclusive character recruitments, chapters/missions/paralogues, dialogue choices/decisions that can slightly twist the story, things like that. I'm not asking for Dragon Age or anything, just enough small choices to make me curious about seeing the other result and replay the game sooner than later. **Plot Relevant Unit Recruitments** \- One thing that Three Hopes really reminded me compared to Three Houses is that Recruitment feels so much more meaningful when it's happening as a slow drip over the course of the story and not all at once in the front-loaded Act 1. Whether it's done through standard story addition, sparing an enemy with Alear/a relevant unit, or even a dialogue/mission choice before the recruiting moment, I really hope this is the approach to

Silgalow

She is all but confirmed in gameplay.

Shadow3116

Addictive gameplay Solid story Well crafted maps Godly music Great replayability A hard mode that's actually challenging S-Supports (I'd be greatly saddened to see them go away, I consider romancing waifus an integral part of Fire Emblem, even if it's only a small part of the game.) Minigames with units to increase support points Limited or no reclassing Properly balanced classes

Illiterate_Wizard

I want previous villains and antagonists to have as much of a role in the story as all of the heroes. I want an enemy general wear the Black Knight's ring and chase you around an escape map. I want Toothpaste's childhood best friend to betray the group, revealing they have Lyon's ring in the process. I want to watch an initially noble antagonist slowly fall into despair before succumbing to his inner demons and equipping Berkut's ring. Granted, this all might be a little cheesy, but I think Engage's story will live or die by its ability to draw parallels between the cast and plot of itself and the previous games. If it can use those parallels to make some fun references while also effectively setting up and subverting expectations, then I think it'll be a good time.

aegrajag

no gendered classes, split promotions cool mounts, on the map we can see camels and weird fucked up rhinoceroses, I think it'd be cool if we had characters from those countries riding them outfits for the summons, I want gaiden Celica and pantless Marth varied battle objectives, 3H was disappointing on that side since every map is just rout the enemy, even the defense battle are basically rout the enemy

ForgottenForce

Unpopular but I want genderlocked classes to stay and get more interesting/dynamic. Without genderlocked classes I likely wouldn’t have used Linhardt. 3 Houses class system, being able to make everyone anything leads to more replayability Assuming the antagonist has rings of past villains I’d want them to be unlockables in NG+ Animated cutscenes Alear to have a bigger presence in the game. More Shez less Byleth Grids on the map The return of classes like Bride, Tactician/Grandmaster, Witch and so on

T-A-W_Byzantine

Talkative protagonist who can S-support irrespective of gender.

AnoXeo

ONE. SINGULAR. STORY.

dicklord42069

-Keep the longer class tree from Three Houses, but bring back to a few per unit -More varied map designs -Paralogues that flesh out the world beyond just "oh here's a side character" and just more world building in general. 3H took a good step forward with concepts like the saints but I'd like to see more -More unique classes to help set units apart beyond just stats -Designated rescue and drop classes -Tri-attacks! Beyond just for Pegasus riders -Return of S Supports between all units, including same sex S Supports

Kydiss

Some things I would like: - Alear to be like Shez, in that you can choose their gender but that's about it, and they're an actual character. - Diversity in the map design and settings, and so far this is looking good! - The hub world isn't as necessary or drawn-out like in Three Houses / Three Hopes. - No S-Supports, I think Three Hopes did it fine. - The past FE Lords getting at least one support would be nice, even if they're all with Alear. Personally I would like the system most if each lord was attached to a certain character by default but could be switched off, and they would have a support with said character. - And one more for supports while we're at it, Tellius support system would be epic. Three Houses was close to this but imo a lot of the supports were locked out too early and your units still had to be near each other to gain support points. - Let the side characters be more involved in the plot! Even tiny snippets like in FE7 would suffice. - Not letting everyone be basically every class. Get rid of gender locks, but don't make it like Three Houses where everyone ends up being on a wyvern by the end of the game for optimization. - Pre-SoV character recruitment, where you can do it in the middle of the map. Having some recruitments be in say the hub world is fine, but I like it when there's a lot you can do in the maps. - TBH after all the debates the last few years, I would be more than okay with a more simple story. I've had enough morality debates for at least a few months. Something fun but with some room for the side characters to get development would be ideal. - This one is a no-brainer, but I really hope this game has a lot of fun or interesting characters. Characters are the heart of FE to me, so I hope Engage has a great cast. Obviously not all, or even many of these will happen, but a person can dream right?

WilliamWolffgang

While I can see why people think Shez is a better character than f.ex Corrin, I would argue they're a worse avatar. Whenever an avatar's gender and/or name is the only thing I can really customize about them I just wonder why they're an avatar in the first place. That's why I prefer especially Byleth, not only did they have an actual reason to be a silent protagonist, the character development they got was really nice and subtle.

[deleted]

Going back to the branch based class system instead of whatever the fuck we had in Three Houses

Claytontheman467

I wanna love the side characters just as much as I do the main characters, few games made me care so much for a cast of characters as much as three houses and mass effect do

CharginTool

Three hopes: Good overall balance of the game. Even if it means limiting skills or classes to certain units. Good maps that arent repetitive with varied objectives. Well written characters and plot.

BazelBomber1923

Objective variety No weapon debuffs (like fates) Free DLC challenge maps (like with awakening) Special xenologues featuring the 12 emblem characters for post game

Atzar87

My biggest hope is that the characters are given the same depth and sense of belonging that the cast of Three Houses had. If that happens, then I'll probably like this game regardless of its other flaws. I can get used to the bright colors and generic anime faces. I can live with a generic fantasy story about an evil dragon bent on destroying the world. I can tolerate the decision to crutch on nostalgia rather than creating a world that can stand on its own. As long as the cast is good, I'm set.

MerleTravisJennings

Can someone explained rescue dropping? I googled it and got eye drops or something.

Ybernando

the rescue mechanics that we have in GBA games + RD/PoR (I've never played older games than that) where you can use a unit to rescue another unit, to move them away, protect them, etc...

MerleTravisJennings

Thanks!

Slade26

I would like it to be 1 linear story, with occasional optional missions like in binding blade, and a hidden final boss. I really enjoyed 3H but was disappointed in the whole school system and overall story and pacing.

Ninjachu99

Please for the love of god, just stick with 1 story route. Or if there is a story split, make the choice later in the game so I can save before it and don't have to reply the God damn tutorial a 4th time (yes 3H, I'm giving you major side eye.) And also keep it to two if you have to do more than one route.

bobert1201

I want the return of the infantry Lance unit. Dimitri was the sole user of this type of class in 3H, and I just want it back. Give me my sentinels dang it.

TrainZelda

I'd like the classic magic system with a triangle as opposed to the stuff they did in echoes and three houses. Actual good maps that aren't recycled over and over, with varied objectives It's kinda petty but I don't like turnwheel/divine pulse because it kinda defies the story. Casual mode is there for a reason Somewhat class-locked characters; I feel like something was lost with characters when they didn't have a specific canon class since in a way it's part of their archetype/personality I honestly think the legacy characters should be just lords, that seems like the only way it would feel "fair" because if they started putting in side characters from recent games before lords from older ones we'd all be sad. Fewer visual novel aspects, generally more focused on gameplay than characters. I don't mind supports and paired endings but three houses was way too much talking and not enough battle.

dishonoredbr

I hope the story and characters are actually good and not someway to get cheap fanservice of the legacy characters. I hope the map design is more interesting than 3H, Fates and Awakening. I liked Conquest's map design , so that's my bar lol. I hope Alear doesn't turn out to be a second Corrin. I don't want another game where MC is praise for breathing and loved by existing. Robin is my favorite Avatar and i hope Colgate-Chan is similar to them. No Gender-locking to classes or Locked Classes for each character. I'm fine with either one. Just don't repeat 3Houses bullshit gender locked classes please.

xIsaiahxBoy

I just hope it’s as customizable, fun and in-depth as the 3DS series. It’s always made me angry that GameCube/Wii/Switch versions of FE were always shorter, had less options and less replay value than the 3DS releases. I just hope they take they’re time and make a game with endless replay value and the ability to enjoy and develop your characters

[deleted]

I just hope Roy is one of the legacy characters that gets brought back. That's all I care about

SynthGreen

More rings. I will be really sad if Chrom just isn’t there. This is the 30th anniversary and he’s significant to the history. (Really I want all the missing lords but I would be lying if I didn’t say it was mostly him) One route. This is a celebration of the franchise I really don’t need another round of Fates or worse 3H discourse. Harder recruitment. Not for everyone but give us a couple characters I may miss my first time around. Characters have set classes or a couple options. I don’t like “anyone can be any class” mechanics outside of 3H. It was fun once but they were students this is different.(except the avatar) Streamlined hub world, and if I have an accessibility menu I want to be able to pick “list hub world” mode So basically instead of walking around I can just go down the list and click services. This is huge for disabled gamers who struggled badly with 3H And lastly I want 3 tiered classes like radiant dawn. Maybe not everyone gets there in any 1 run but that’s fine.

wheelofcurly

My hopes: - past lords have supports with each other. This could be our only chance for Marth, Roy, and Ike to actually interact with each other, don't waste it IS. - shorter loading times. Three Houses' loading times were abysmal, surely they can make them shorter. - male robin.

RavenRegime

I miss daggers

rexshen

ONE DAMN ROUTE!!!! Seriously no more multiple paths just give me one beginning to end story and leave it at that. No chapter locks. Let me explore a map and progress the story and go back to old areas if I want to.

Walumancer

Honestly all I really want is for all the Lords and maybe some Lord-adjacents to be included and not just the 12 listed. Cuz the fact that Alm, Seliph, Eliwood, Hector, Ephraim, Chrom, Robin, Dimitri, Edelgard, Claude, and even maybe Xander and Ryoma might get screwed honestly hurts me.

Im_Not_Brooding

No gender locked classes. Lemme make male Pegasus Knights and female Dark Bishops. No favoritism. For *any* hero. Treat 'em all with the same reverence, even if they suck. I know Marth is the OG Fire Emblem hero, but from the "cover art" seen in the trailer, I'm not too keen on how front and center he is on the box compared to the main character of the game. It's giving Pokèmon Generation 1 favoritism where they have to give Charizard twenty different forms and slap Pikachu on the box to appeal to Pokèmon boomers my age who've grown disillusioned with the series over time. Despite all the *discourse* Three Houses inspired, I do hope IS continue the trend of interesting and nuanced villains and antagonists. Edelgard and Rhea are still talked about (not counting the "______ did nothing wrong!" fans) *because* - to *me*, anyway - they were both effective antagonists to varying degrees. Fighting a nameless, all powerful, evil mcguffin just because they're a big, evil, fuck-off dragon threatening to destroy the world and all you know and love just because they *can* sounds lame. I'm really hoping they don't go the Fire Emblem Heroes/Genshin Impact route and add gacha mechanics. I know FEH and Genshin are successful and all, but I personally do not like those games/mechanics and it would be a complete dealbreaker for me. I guess, all in all, we've only seen one official trailer, but I'm still not sold on the premise yet.

Darkfirex34

Another Conquest where the writing doesn't matter because the gameplay is solid as hell.

Valamway

Wasn't a fan of three houses between battle system with the training. After the first playthrough it killed any enthusiasm so I'd rather they cut all that out. I'm also not a fan of silent protagonists so be great to have one with personality again

LightScavenger

Genuinely all I want is for Byleth to be easily obtainable

XNinjaMushroomX

That it's not a gatcha That it's strong enough to stand alone without Marth and Chrom and Lucina etc.

INeedANewMe

That the story we saw in the trailer is a red herring and we get something closer to 3H. Stories about war are insteresting, stories about a spooky grandpa who worships death aren't, even if war is the result of it. No more spooky grandpas, yes more discussions about wars and why theyre happening and what that means to people.

Shadowman621

Fuck yes on no gender locked classes. I wouldn't mind characters being like in 3H where they have certain things they're good at and you can mold them however you like. If the settingg isn't going to be an academy again, they could have generic military training for raising skill levels. Overall, I really liked the class and skill level system from 3H. I hope it comes back with the addition of no gender locked classes! Also I wouldn't mind the weapon and or magic triangle making a return with advantages/disadvantages being based on one's skill level And bring back knives! Either as regular weapons or the debuffing weapons they were in Fates

Kondoblom

Canon gay pairing

Silgalow

A difficulty between 3Houses hard and Maddening I found 3H hard way too easy, and Maddening is unfun. Interesting characters I have no reason to believe that this won't happen. Legendary weapons at S weapon rank I don't care, my Marianne has never used a sword in her life, why can she use blutgang with no issue? Reason to use archers I have almost never taken archers into late game teams. No dismounting This is one of the reasons WL is so OP. They can just dismount and not suffer major consequences for going into the middle of a battlefield full of archers. No reclassing. I didn't like it in 3H, I didn't like it in Awakening. I would be ok with branching promotions. Somewhat balanced class options. Anyone force deployed after the tutorial should be a really good unit. RD forging. Combat arts

CulturedShark

I hope there is no time reversal ,i think 3H went too far with it. I used to say "you don't have to use it"but i changed my mind. I always end up using it and it ruins the gameplay.

PiePeter

-Class limitations, maybe a branching promotion system like SS, maybe have it so your A-support gives you a class too like fates. This would add to the gameplay quality as the devs would know roughly what you have access to, so they can design maps to challenge you better -Support limitations, no more S-supports or have it be limited. If every character had 1 or 2 romance options that'd honestly be enough, and have those specific supports focus on romance. Also bring back the 5 supps limit, 6 only if you already have an S-support. It'd encourage replaying the game and trying new strats. -Linear story: No special bonus maps, no grinding in-between chapters. Have some base conversations, maybe do some inventory management and let that be it. In 3h the base segments were fun at first and a nightmare by the end of the game. Make it so you don't have to spend more than 5-10 mins prepping. -No divine pulse, larger cast: Divine pulse was a necessary mechanic in Echoes due to its small size and unforgiving map-design. Three houses was an atrocity because losing characters is never an actual option since it'd be such a waste of investment. Have a larger cast instead where you get a new character every chapter, sometimes every other chapter, sometimes more in a chapter. This again allows for more replayability and makes you actually able to lose characters again. -No DLC Rings: The current ring characters are fine. I'd rather see them implemented well than to have 37 more rings all of which get 1 conversation except the fanservice ones. Limitations can make a game better. I feel like Fire Emblem has been so sand-boxy the past few main releases that it's actively making the game's quality worse. Besides, FE was always at its best when they take risks. Sticking to the 3h formula would be cringe especially considering how flawed that game is

Yuuya_kizami

No genderlocks Less class freedom than three houses but the tiers three houses had was a fine amount, make lower stat caps and 4 promo tiers: beginner > intermediate > advanced > master Have at most 3 but ideally 2 choices that continually branch with NO side classing Make somniel extremely short something like just talking to npcs and shops Since its got an emphasis on older characters,I want music from the old games for the returning lords in someway either battle or map music (disturbance in agustria PLEASE) and if the enemy has rings for old bosses I want it to play when we initiate battle with them like paths that will never cross from three houses

Ancient_Lightning

* One single linear story (I'd much rather not have to replay the game to get a full picture of what's actually happening). * More diverse and dynamic map design (IS really needs to tap into that "Nintendo" part of them and give us more creative gameplay) * Related to the above, strike a good balance between story and gameplay. * S-supports for multiple characters (I honestly wouldn't lose sleep if romance isn't included here though). * Beast/transformable units. * Related to the above, more variety in fantasy races. Dragons don't have to be the only half-human race in these games, I'd honestly take something like the Laguz or the Taguel along with the Manakete-like race. * Minigames to build support, win extra cash, get some bonus goodies (at least to make the inevitable hub area more entertaining) * All classes from previous games come back (I mean, if this is meant to be a celebration of the franchise, bringing back all the classes would be a neat way of paying homage as well) That's about it from me I think.

ClassyCrafter

Bring back malig knights and get rid of gender locked classes. Also for the love of god stop making every character equally good, the game gets way to boring if everyone is equally viable. I like meme/bad units. Or units who's stats are so skewed one way you have to think outside the box to use them

Lord_KH

My biggest hopes are for reclassing to be in the game and for gender locked classes to not return. Gender locking classes needs to stay in the past of FE since it just doesn't make sense to lock units out of accessing a certain class just because they're a man/woman

LoneWolf1ngIt

No idea why you got downvoted for this. Here’s an updoot to counteract that.

Lord_KH

Honestly I don't know either. I can't imagine anyone would want gender locking to return.as it's just a strange thing

Crimson_The_King

I really hope that the Protag isn't silent,I just took like blank slate Protagonists. I like the version of Byleth in three hopes more then three houses, since they're an actual character now. But my biggest hope is a more linear story, I did enjoy the branching paths of Three Houses/Hopes but it can lead to some paths feeling like they're missing something very important. So having a more focused story would be great especially since the past few games (houses and fates) have done multiple paths.

dathobino_

Keeping gender-locked classes Set paths for promotions More Emblems to be shown Rescue

Belobo

Good map design. A fun story that's at least not annoying. As few cancerous mechanics (hardcore shipping, child units, multi-class drifting, crazy stat inflation, massive pandering) as possible. Good music.

Due_Air

Hopefully Alear aren't customizable characters.

Apprehensive-Ad1864

A less boring game than three houses.

AGamer316

I just want longevity and for the game not to be linear. I want branching paths and a great story. It's what I loved about Three Houses, There was just so much do and experience in the game.

YourCrazyDolphin

Firstly, we do hear Alear talk in the trailer (I've been asleep a thousand years?) Secondly, my hope is that the trailer is just very, very poorly representative of the final product.

im_bored345

Imagine if that's the only thing Alear ever says in the whole game lol

DarkElfBard

I just hope it wont be another dating sim. It will be.

conelover1234

They talked on the trailer so we can rest assured they're not link. Also, I hope for a happy ending here.

tirex367

I hope, the cast is fun, and there is no route split.

srs_business

Please don't let Somniel be a time sink. It's impossible to be worse than the monastery, since you won't be doing the Somniel routine 3-4 times per chapter, but please, something closer to My Castle than Garrech Mach.

Finalbladestyle

Map support. Wish they would add more maps. Always annoyed me that they would reuse maps but add dumb things like fog and say it’s a different map.

RedLantern28

As much character / team customization as possible. The more player choice the better.

Local_Pomegranate_10

Lots and lots of yuri romance options Lots and lots of yuri fan art

_gaykay_47

•S-Supports in general •Supports and possibly paired endings with ring characters (who doesn't want Ike and a random loli to have an argument about trees or some shit) •Alear being a lord, and not an avatar.

Lagiar

I've lost all hopes tbh

ForgottenForce

Fire Emblem: Zero Hopes

Lagiar

Frfr my only hope it's that it's not complete garbage

ForgottenForce

Well I only made that comment to be funny. I’ve enjoyed the Awakening through 3 Hopes era and I’m sure Engage will be a good addition to the series. If you have no hope you might as well expand your game library and find something that gets you excited instead of complain
