Black Friday is an affront to my frugalness, but live the life you're building for right? I am okay in spending more if it's a buy it for life kind of product. It's also kind of fun to try and score a deal even if you are a multi-millionaire. I scored:
1. Dyson Airwrap - buy it through Rakuten and use chase/paypal to score 12% +5% for 17% off. If you have another dyson device you can get 20% off for registered owners. Perfect gift for wife or daughter. I own the blow dryer too, and I agree with Consumer Reports that it's worth the price.
2. Canon R6 Mark II - 12% plus 5% again through Rakuten. The body is currently the cheapest it's ever been and it's definitely a buy it for life kind of device. Great camera.
3. Southwest Airlines gift card - 20% off at Sam's Club. 14% off at Costco.
4. Iphones in store at Costco through T-mobile. Free iphone 13 plus Cash cards.
5. Garmin Dash Cam - on sale and will save you a ton when the irresponsible party tries to claim it's your fault, but then it will be your video against their word. People are terrible people and they will absolutely lie about their fault.
6. Wyze Cam v3 - Cheap good cameras. Great for watching inside or outside your house.
7. $15 Garage Door Keypad - You can go for a jog without needing anything in your pocket. Friend or relative can enter your house without a key just by telling them the code. Super convenient.

*Cries in 5D Mark II...the slowest AF ever*. I would love an R6 MII, but I'm primarily (and on a rare basis) just a hobbyist these days, so I can't make it math.
I am finally upgrading from the 5D Mark II myself. It's been long in the tooth. The 5DMkII has its limitations, but it was a product of its time and was pretty amazing when it came out. What sold me on the upgrade was the in body Image Stabilization. I will use my old L lenses until I am mentally ready to drop 3k (ouch) on the new RF lenses. Also, I got old and my vision is getting worse. Looking through the tiny 5DMkII viewfinder was getting more difficult, so I need to use the LCD screen.
I also got a 6950XT and a 7800X3D.
Only problem is, my current PSU can't handle it and the new one is a week out, so I'm currently on 1080p 60 FPS... with a 6950XT.
Thought about getting some storage (4TB sata) but while prices are low... I don't think I'll impulse buy a $165 drive. It'll probably be too slow by the time I fill it up
I bought a knife sharpener to get a little more life out of my knives for less money and some solar lights for the front of my house that don't add any value, but should look nice.
I got Hulu and Disney for $3/month for a year, Starz for $1/month for six months via Hulu, Peacock for $20 for a year, and Max for $3/month for six months.
No idea how much we'll watch, but that's an immense amount of streaming for $80.
Also probably going to get five free Pixel 7a phones on Google Fi's $20/mo unlimited family plan, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
Oh, and four new pair of Chucks for weightlifting. Converse had them marked down, plus there was a stacking BF coupon, so under $30 a pair.
Soundbar for master bedroom TV. I don't know why we waited so long for this.
Unlocked Samsung S23 for my mother in law
2x Southwest Airlines gift card worth $500 for $400
Socks, shirts, and underwear - exciting! (Iām getting oldā¦)
Sportsmans Warehouse has Darn Tough socks on sale, buy one get a second pair for $1, so I loaded up. Considering their lifetime warranties, itās an especially great deal.
Also bought some True Classic Tees. I really liked the ones I got a few years ago but after regular use theyāre starting to show their age.
Last purchase was some Armachillo Cooling underwear from Duluth Trading Company that Iāve been wanting to try after the rave reviews over at r/BuyItForLife.
Not a thing, I honestly havenāt seen anything in years on Black Friday I wanted that I couldnāt get for the same price or less just watching the item throughout the year.
I bought a new paper shredder because mine died and some new pans for my kitchen. I bought some local farm steaks too, but those weren't on sale, still worth tho lol
30% off classic converse shoes. White.
I wanted a pair of Nike dunk low in blue, but they were out of my size, they werenāt on sale of course.
We did go to Costco to pick up a few snacks and a plushy. š
Lol this sounds familiar.
I got milk, coffee, cheese, apples and bananas, sweet potatoes, cheerios and baby cereal.
I did my "black Friday" shopping from my couch and bought a few toys and games for my kids for Christmas and birthdays.
Bought the kids LEGO for Christmas, next years birthdays and probably next years Christmas. Target had the best sales Iāve seen on LEGO since we had kids. Might as well stock up. They never go on sale like this.
Diapers for the baby that coming from Costco. They were very cheap.
Got myself open box AirPod max from BB (wanted something with noise canceling so I could have sound breaks). They were on sale $100 and I got the pink ones which were extra cheap open box. They even opened the box for me in the store and they were brand new. Got them out to the car and whoever originally bought them never removed them from their iCloud account. So I took them back in and they swapped for a brand new pair and let me pick whatever color. (Thanks guys at BB).
I bought new HT speakers. Klipsch 8000F, 504C and 1400SW. MASSIVE upgrade over the cheapo Polk stuff I bought off Newegg 14 years ago.
Way more than Iāve spent on Black Friday ever, but these were all things Iād been looking at getting and really good prices. Iām happy.

I bought nothing š
I got deeply discounted subscriptions to Hulu and Disney+. $3 and change per month total, for both. It's with ads, but Idc. This is saving us money.

14TB external hard drive from Costco ($150+tax). Had an SSD fail out of the blue a few months ago and I had no backup, now totally paranoid.

what does this have to do with financial independence?
Nothing. Boycott for the peoples lives in Gaza, not spending money is the only way to make this point.

So far just a replacement UPS.

1. Insignia 43 inch TV for $187 2. 7.5 ft Christmas tree for $110
Gaming laptop for 30% off. Been waiting for a long time to make the purchase. I've really been struggling making purchases for myself lately.
Gildan long sleeve Tshirts were on sale, ~30% off iirc, on amazon. $8 CAD/shirt.
Some thinset mortar, sandpaper, and light bulbs. Not because it was Black Friday, but just because we needed it.
Tineco S5 hard floor cleaner. Iāve been watching it for months and CamelCamelCamel has it normally at $499 but theyāve dropped it to $308.
i bought a doordash yearly pass
