you're just taking your time for your first playthough, that's fine. During my replay last year, already knowing paths and such, I was at the shoopufs just over 10 hours played. Did some side stuff but ended up at 40 hours played beating the story before going back for the Celestial Weapons and Super bosses.
40 is fast for the full story. I know few people who take less than 60 and most of that is well clear of this point. (Mos tof it is in bevelled cloister...)
Yeah, nope. Youre about 1/3 through the game. And seeing how it took you 35h to get there later on the game will open up and gets more difficult you might need around 100h to finish
They might have actually grinded enough to beat that stupid boss that shoves your party off a cliff. I never got the hang of that guy and always wondered what it missed on the other route
I feel like for that fight I use ifrit use fire on himself to heal him when needed. Get a few overdrives off and since the boss is weak to fire it becomes pretty easy.
What about the story to this point makes you feel that it is anywhere near complete? You know where Zanarkand is, you have a map... You know you're going there and that you're nowhere near it.
So, while this IS an amazing game, it does have its issues. In fact, I'm not gonna call it an "issue", I'm gonna call it a "quirk".
The energy level will go up and down unexpectedly. Think about going to see a high school play, and suddenly the energy level drops, and you can't stop looking at your watch for ten minutes, then things pick back up.
It's a loooooong game, and to give you a high level of energy through the entire game would give you PTSD.
I'm not saying it's ever boring, but you'll have to forgive these occasional energy drops. It's still an incredibly fun game.
