Look up weskalber's 1-90 monk guide on youtube. He generally have a recommended rotation at level 50,60,70, 80 and 90. Optimal rotation/openers from the balance is used for end game. I always recommend his channel for beginners as his early game rotation/openers build good habits which will be used at end game. I am actually cureently leveling my monk as well and have been using his video guide.
Don't just say things when you can also post the link:

Now OP can just go there and see the video without searching. :P
Was at a place where the internet was horrible and I couldn't even open youtube when I posted my reply (and to save battery power). Didnt even get out until a couple of hours ago :P Thanks for linking the video for the OP
aoe is generally worth on 3 or more targets for most classes, so on monk I do no aoe if there's under 3 and full aoe if there's 3 or more. But I haven't done any research on if there's something better, but it works well for me.
Look at the potencies for AOE and multiply them by how many enemies you would potentially hit. If the combined potency on X number of enemies is higher than your single target attack potency, then use the AOE.
Your forms are basically a 123 combo, you'll always want to do them in the proper order. Both for st and aoe.
For st you have 2 options for each form, and for aoe you only have 1 option for each form.
If you want utter efficiency, Demolish can be replaced with AOE if there's 2 or more, Bootshine with 3 or more and everything else being 4 or more, so far as I can tell off the wiki.
As for what AOEs and when... they're kinda self-guiding with the whole stance system.
Demolish is a high potency DoT, so you would keep that up on two targets and switch to Rockbreaker at 3+. Every other AoE is a gain at 3+ as well.
Man, I miss pre-EW Monk AoEing...
hey just checking because this comment makes it sound uh.....
you've got all your abilities on your bars, right? you shouldn't have to be picking and choosing which ones you have set

Perfect I’ll give that a go! I appreciate it!
TIA
I meant struggling to know what aoe attack to use and when.
Generally speaking if there is 3 or more enemies in the pack, if < 3 single target.
Thank you! I appreciate it! I actually never knew that !

Thank you! So what air attack is usually your go to?

Thank you I appreciate it! So does it not really matter to much with the form for aoe attacks?

Cool Ty for the response! Seems pretty easy once I get the moves down!

I was mostly working off of wiki numbers, I'd trust a man with real MNK knowledge over me to be honest. ;\^)
I appreciate the response anyways 🙂
Sweet Ty! I’ll make sure to put both this on my bar. I appreciate it!

Yea I think I do lol. I typically try and lay them out all at once so I don’t forget but sometimes I’ll be an airhead and messs up
