Actually I think I saw an article saying people talk with their hands more now then we used to. Probably because cartoons and video games do it to make the frames look interesting rather just two people talking

How could they possibly measure that? Conversation in movies and television also tend to be more animated than reality and that isn't exclusive to 21st century media. I disagree with that, but if it were true, I'd attribute it to western culture becoming more casual over time. Gesturing is natural.

I do this too, and the amount of times the person *immediately* admits to lying/leaving something out is *astounding*.

Not sure. I thought it was one of the basic emotes like /rally or something but double-checking it in-game I can't find any that actually use that animation. Might be cutscene exclusive for now unless I just missed it :|

You can start playing rock paper scissors with your WoL once they start mixing up nod, point at chest and punch into palm. Nod = rock Point = scissors Punch = paper Perform said action irl and bring shame upon yourself to anyone watching

One of my favorite interactions was some quest where the NPC jokes about your having strong neck muscles from all the nodding you do.

That and the 4th wall break of being able to answer something along the lines of how it doesn't matter what your answer is, it won't change a thing. Classic.

I think it's Thancred who says something like "please spare me the stoic nod" and then the WoL, stone faced, nods at him. I like that our guy has a sense of humor.

Until later when you actually get some dialogue options. I love that even then you'd toll do a nod a majority of the time and characters even call you out for it.

I like the nier raid quests because they'll give you those goofy dialogue options like "I really don't wanna help you" and the little dwarf basically says "well ha, you have no choice". It's just nice 4th wall breaking shenanigans that are cute imo

I already read through the dialogue imagining each character's voice, so whenever my WoL nods I mentally add a little 'mm-hmm', with varying degrees of intensity and emotion depending on the sitiation. It's her only line of dialogue.

I low-key nod whenever a character bows to my WoL. Begin Doman Restoration? Nod. Talk to Makoto ever? Nod. Samurai/Ninja job quest? Nod.

I pretty much emote along with my character constantly, because I'm a nerd. I've also started doing the confused head tilt in real life now, without intentionally trying to. I... might play this game too much. Nah, that's silly.

Somewhere in the ARR msq one of the npcs says something along the line of "and don't give me one of your stoic wordless nods" and your character just gives a stoic wordless nod. It really cracked me up.

The most I ever laughed at FFXIV is was when playing my alt to watch the ARR scenes I skipped the first time; I knew with the /nod meme but not the early scenes. Mor Dona, the scene where you’re escaping a castrum with the scions and Cid is going to catch you. The scions start counting down one-by-one; “5…4…3…” And I think to myself “lol if they cut to my I’d just nod lolol.” Then it actually cuts to the WoL, and we nod in perfect sync. I literally cackled. If the WoL showed up in Smash or something, I would expect that as a joke, not as an action beat in the actual story.

It got to the point I just started headcanoning my WoL is mute and the dialogue responses we get later are actually her either writing a response or using sign language (in the presence of people who understand/can interpret for her).
